This pharmacy cannot keep track of prescriptions, its automated system does not properly track them, and it is generally poor at communicating. Twice now, I have gone to pick up prescriptions and was asked to pay full price because the medication is "popular." I called my insurance company and learned that Charlesmeade Pharmacy never ran my insurance. The last time I went, I tried to explain that they had not run my insurance, but they insisted that I needed to pay full price. I asked why this had not been communicated to me beforehand, especially since I had spoken with someone on the phone earlier that day. They then attempted to bargain with me to pay less than the original amount they quoted. This seems absolutely wrong--they are refusing to run prescriptions through insurance and are instead negotiating prescription prices. read more

I transferred my scripts here after getting fed up with the nightmare that is Walgreens. How many problems does that place have? Too many to list: orders constantly getting canceled with no explanation, corporate website constantly going down, standing on line for 40 minutes to talk to a real person about a problem because no one picks up the phone, being turned away at the counter because the pharmacy's system "went down again due to the weather". (Not kidding, Walgreens hasn't updated their pharmacy system since the 90s.) I tell you all that because if you're dealing with similar headaches at any of the big name corporate pharmacies, it's time to try an independent pharmacy that actually knows how to run itself competently. Charlesmead does that well and comes as a breath of fresh air after all the corporate BS. At Charlesmead, you can easily fill prescriptions over the phone with an automated system from this century. Prescriptions get filled within hours, and someone will call to let you know it's ready. If you have questions, a real person will actually answer the phone. They even do same-day deliveries, if you can't make it to the store. I wish more mom and pop shops like Charlesmead were still around. You can tell they actually give a damn about their customers and pride themselves on doing a good job. I can't tell you how much more smoothly my experience is since I transferred here months ago. I will never leave this place. An important note: You may notice *some* prescription prices here are a little higher. That's because independent pharmacies don't benefit from Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) who negotiate discounts for corporate pharmacies. If you're not sure if your medication will be affected, ask the pharmacy. If price is a dealbreaker for you, fine. Personally, I will happily eat any extra cost if I don't have to jump through hoops every month just to get my medications. You can't put a price on your sanity. read more

I don't like this pharmacy because the cashiers doesn't have good communication skills and disrespect to me all the time. They like telling me that my prescriptions are there but then the medicine is not in the pharmacy as yet. Don't treat people any differently then the way you treat your mother and family. Kelly, Page, Monique and Denise these are some of the cashiers who work at this establishment. There are others who work for him but I don't see them often or just sometimes. We lived in Baltimore for 11 years, and I fell in love with Charlesmead pharmacy from the getgo. Their service is super personal, efficient, and the people are kind. Their prices on prescriptions are competitive, and their store open stock items are also competitive. Now that we are back in the midwest I miss them so much. Charlesmead was a pleasure to shop at, and work with. And they have that great soda bar! read more

On the recommendation of my brothers, my husband and I stopped in for lunch today. Charlesmead Pharmacy is on the corner of Bellona-Gittings and is an old time pharmacy. There has been a neighborhood pharmacy and lunch counter here since 1939. The pharmacy looks to have everything you would need. What a delightful surprise to find a good, old fashioned, soda fountain lunch counter - swivel seats and all. They offer a lunch special every day for $4.00 that includes your sandwich, chips and a soda. Friday is burger day. Even though the burgers are microwaved, they were really good. Kelly, our server, was so welcoming and friendly. She will put anything you want on your burger. They also have ice cream sundaes, milk shakes, snow balls, fresh baked cookies, New York Egg Cream, and all kind of sandwiches. Take a step back in time and enjoy the good old days! read more

All the people who work here are a delight. I once overheard the owner VERY patiently and kindly listening to a customer's lengthy health saga with genuine concern. It would be impossible for them to be more helpful or more kind to me. They make sure that my prescriptions are delivered and are always there to help if I have any kind of a problem. Fabulous old timey pharmacy! They even have a lunch counter with candy, sandwiches and snowballs. We get free delivery since we live in Homeland. Someone always answers the phone during business hours. You can't phone in scripts by number but they make up for that and more by their superior service. Services such as talking to pharmacist directly, free delivery and talking to insurance companies on your behalf The staff is super friendly and they sell great products that are hard to find such as Rosebud Salve. The people who work here simply couldn't be nicer. When my local Tuxedo Pharmacy closed after many decades in business, they sold all their lifelong customers' information to corporate CVS. I was getting robocalls for weeks about prescriptions I hadn't ordered. Then, when I did order a real prescription, was told that it would cost me $250 for 10 pills. I immediately switched to Charlesmeade, where a human being--with a quirky sense of humor and a ready smile--helped me place the one script I ever need (for migraines). She helped me find a coupon and a generic to bring the cost down. I was so grateful to them and the contrast between the way I was treated at CVS and vs Charlesmeade was staggering. I don't know how long they will be around but as long as they are, I'm a dedicated customer. Highly recommend. And yeah, nothing is more authentically and i pretentiously charming than their lunch counter. read more

I can't believe I've gone this long without reviewing Charlesmead!! They are amazing! From Kelly who is behind the counter making lunches and amazing snowballs (eat them outside though please!) to the cool 'train garden esque) display by the pharmacy counter, this place rocks! I have my information on file and I can refill prescriptions online, with ease. Since I have my information with the they charge my card for the Rx, then deliver to me (free of charge) to my home. Probably best of all? The really nice man who delivers my Rx also has dog treats for my favorite furbaby! I love love love this place and am so very glad I can help support a local, well run, and simply charming place. read more

Was told they would bill my diabetic supplies to my health insurance where it it is covered 100% because they are covered under health and not prescriptions BUT they would only do if I transferred all my prescriptions there. I said I have to use mail order per my plan so they said they could not help me then. If I could rate 0 I would in my opinion. read more

They always go out of their way to help you fill a prescription. They will even drop it off for free if you can't get out of your house to pick it up (I'm sure just locally). In fact today we couldn't find the liquid form of a prescription anywhere and instead of saying sorry can't help you they called around and figured out how to make it for us. read more
