I worked with one of the nurses at St Joseph's for years and knew she was outstanding and so made an appt when my husband developed a pressure ulcer. She was great and it meant us visiting their store in Cockeysville. What a great recourse for medical supplies and knowledgeable staff who can explain how to use them. I called my insurance company and learned that Charlesmeade Pharmacy never ran my insurance. The last time I went, I tried to explain that they had not run my insurance, but they insisted that I needed to pay full price. I asked why this had not been communicated to me beforehand, especially since I had spoken with someone on the phone earlier that day. They then attempted to bargain with me to pay less than the original amount they quoted. This seems absolutely wrong--they are refusing to run prescriptions through insurance and are instead negotiating prescription prices.

Too many to list: orders constantly getting canceled with no explanation, corporate website constantly going down, standing on line for 40 minutes to talk to a real person about a problem because no one picks up the phone, being turned away at the counter because the pharmacy's system "went down again due to the weather". (Not kidding, Walgreens hasn't updated their pharmacy system since the 90s.) I tell you all that because if you're dealing with similar headaches at any of the big name corporate pharmacies, it's time to try an independent pharmacy that actually knows how to run itself competently. Charlesmead does that well and comes as a breath of fresh air after all the corporate BS. At Charlesmead, you can easily fill prescriptions over the phone with an automated system from this century. Prescriptions get filled within hours, and someone will call to let you know it's ready. If you have questions, a real person will actually answer the phone. They even do same-day deliveries, if you can't make it to the store. I wish more mom and pop shops like Charlesmead were still around. You can tell they actually give a damn about their customers and pride themselves on doing a good job. I can't tell you how much more smoothly my experience is since I transferred here months ago. I will never leave this place. An important note: You may notice *some* prescription prices here are a little higher. That's because independent pharmacies don't benefit from Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) who negotiate discounts for corporate pharmacies. If you're not sure if your medication will be affected, ask the pharmacy. If price is a dealbreaker for you, fine. Personally, I will happily eat any extra cost if I don't have to jump through hoops every month just to get my medications. You can't put a price on your sanity.

Both serve their customers beyond the normal standard of any other practicing pharmacy. I'm not the only one whose name they remember! While I am waiting I can see that each person who walks up to the window is part of a huge WALGREENS FAMILY!! I honestly don't know how they do it. No sooner do I sit down and my phone shoots a text message 'YOUR RX IS READY FOR PICK UP!'. And someone walks over to another register to ring me out so I don't have to get in line! NOW THAT is customer service!! It irks me when I see a post that gives a negative rating because it is always a single unrelated incident that starts the issue and it ALWAYS goes back to the doctor who wrote the prescription or the customer who can't remember how to take their medicine. I was recently surprised to find that HVPharm was the specialty pharmacy making specialized eye drops for my mother who lives an hour away. I was able to contact The pharmacy twice with my parent's questions and talk right to the my personal pharmacist who had made the drops. Only negatives: because they are small, you sometimes need to go elsewhere or wait (if you can) until the next day for less common Rxs. They do not have the hours of big chain pharmacies if you get an emergency night or weekend script.

They regularly sell expired or near-expired items (as in 1 day). I showed the stock personnel about a popular pasta-based meal kit that was more than a week past expiration and they left it on the shelf, I spotted a day later. 2. Make sure the advertisement sign matches what you are buying - they do shady things like moving the items over from the sale tag so you are confused. 3. Check your receipt. These guys are tricksters and sheisters and will swap out items at every chance. At times I have found more than 50% inaccuracies on my receipt. Of course, I have to wait forever in a line to contest with customer service. 4. Worst beef E-V-E-R. Been cooking beef for30+ years - these animals are not well. Inedible & rock tough no matter how you cook, and zero flavor. Subpar distributors/farmers. Go to GIANT. 5. Beware of shopping here. I am not sure how they have not been shut down by OSHA/FDA.
