Last of the Christmas shopping items
    La-Kia K.

I typically shop at the Weis market on Joppa Rd, but came to this one since it is directly up the street from my home. I came in for a few items for Christmas. I did pick up extra items that were not on my list. I eneded uo getting papetowels, Cuties (tangerines) just to say. I was grateful for the help in the can good aisle and the baking items aisle. Each person took the time to assist me in finding my items. They truly did take me to the shelf and pointed out my items. They didn't point and say over there like most store clerks do. I am grateful that they eased my anxiety. I was a little disappointed that the canned sweet potatoes were not the size I was hoping to find like the large fat canned greens. I probably would've found them in Shoppers, but I thought all markets carried them. Check out was easy. I used the self-checkout, since there was no long lines there.

This was my first Weis experience so bear with me. To be fair my grocery store game has been continually upgrading since relocating to Baltimore. I started Save A Lot, which is good in a pinch, but doesn't often have the same items each time so it makes it hard to regularly get your staples. Then Eddie's, which I LOVE, but tends to be on the smaller boutique end of grocery shopping. Then Giants! Which is a very solid staples neighborhood grocery. However I just discovered Weis and there was so diversity in the PRODUCE. Hello fruits and vegetables this winter. I will also say this particular location has stacked ethnic sections (the Asian and Hispanic sections were very impressive) and the frozen section was full of goodies I haven't seen anywhere else. New favorite grocery spot!

Self checkout hell. There are no Weis cashiers.

Weis does not accept returns, not even for non-food items. I'll NEVER shop there again.

Ugh there was no soap in the bathroom, which means none of the employees are washing their hands.

I'd say the only negative (if you can call it that) is that the store shares a parking lot with Target and Marshalls.

What I really like about this place is if you can't get there during business hours, they will deliver locally. The turn around for delivery is pretty quick. This has definitely eased our burden, especially those days we realize we are running low. The Towson Health Mart also has local connections with other businesses. When I needed sedation medicine for my daughter's dentist, I just took the prescription in, left it with them, and they did the rest. My only minor complaint is that there have been a few times my wife has sent me in to grab something or she has gone herself, and they say there is nothing ready even though a call was made saying it was. This is usually rectified by a delivery later in the day (or the next day) but it can still be a bit confusing or frustrating. Overall though, with the amount of expectations that we put on Towson Health Mart Pharmacy, I have been pleased with our patronage.

Twice now, I have gone to pick up prescriptions and was asked to pay full price because the medication is "popular." I called my insurance company and learned that Charlesmeade Pharmacy never ran my insurance. The last time I went, I tried to explain that they had not run my insurance, but they insisted that I needed to pay full price. I asked why this had not been communicated to me beforehand, especially since I had spoken with someone on the phone earlier that day. They then attempted to bargain with me to pay less than the original amount they quoted. This seems absolutely wrong--they are refusing to run prescriptions through insurance and are instead negotiating prescription prices.

I transferred my scripts here after getting fed up with the nightmare that is Walgreens. How many…read moreproblems does that place have? Too many to list: orders constantly getting canceled with no explanation, corporate website constantly going down, standing on line for 40 minutes to talk to a real person about a problem because no one picks up the phone, being turned away at the counter because the pharmacy's system "went down again due to the weather". (Not kidding, Walgreens hasn't updated their pharmacy system since the 90s.) I tell you all that because if you're dealing with similar headaches at any of the big name corporate pharmacies, it's time to try an independent pharmacy that actually knows how to run itself competently. Charlesmead does that well and comes as a breath of fresh air after all the corporate BS. At Charlesmead, you can easily fill prescriptions over the phone with an automated system from this century. Prescriptions get filled within hours, and someone will call to let you know it's ready. If you have questions, a real person will actually answer the phone. They even do same-day deliveries, if you can't make it to the store. I wish more mom and pop shops like Charlesmead were still around. You can tell they actually give a damn about their customers and pride themselves on doing a good job. I can't tell you how much more smoothly my experience is since I transferred here months ago. I will never leave this place. An important note: You may notice *some* prescription prices here are a little higher. That's because independent pharmacies don't benefit from Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) who negotiate discounts for corporate pharmacies. If you're not sure if your medication will be affected, ask the pharmacy. If price is a dealbreaker for you, fine. Personally, I will happily eat any extra cost if I don't have to jump through hoops every month just to get my medications. You can't put a price on your sanity.

I was sent to three other Walgreens told they have my medication in stock even though they knew that those medications were tethered to other patients. I've been refilling this medication for the past four months at this same location using GoodRx and paying cash -- because my out-of-state insurance doesn't cover it. Never had a problem until now. This time, the pharmacist and their assistant -- both of whom sounded completely untrained and uninformed -- insisted I couldn't pick up my medication without insurance. I explained that I've been paying out-of-pocket, using a discount card, and that this is entirely legal and standard practice. They told me that past fills were done as a "one-time courtesy," which is flat-out false. When I asked for an explanation, they simply repeated "rules are rules" and refused to engage in a reasonable conversation. They even hung up on me twice. I called my doctor, and she confirmed they were absolutely wrong and even called the pharmacy herself. Yet, the pharmacist continued to argue and block the fill -- even with a current, valid prescription and a doctor verifying it. This experience felt shady and incompetent. I've since transferred the prescription to another pharmacy with no issue at all. My advice? Steer clear of this place. They're uneducated on basic pharmacy procedure, unprofessional in their communication, and clearly not equipped to handle controlled substances or customer service. Thank God for iPhone recordings -- the world deserves to hear how absurd and unqualified these people are.
