I had the beef shawarma plate with a skewer of lamb. I really enjoyed the meat, rice, hummus, and pita bread. Everything was delicious. The charcoal does give the meat a delicious flavor. Charcoal Grill is a falafel-free Mediterranean restaurant located in Glendale. They are a little different from other Mediterranean restaurants in the area. They do have a bar, and they offer their version of tacos. I also noticed that falafels were not on the menu. We tried a variety of things. We shared the mixed appetizer plate, The mixed shawarma plate, and the mixed plate. Portions were large and the food seemed fresh. Flavors were good. For the most part this gets an A-OK. I would recommend getting the shawarma over kabobs at this time because the kabobs ran a little dry. A stand out was the garlic sauce. It isn't like any other in the area. It's light as air and fluffy. This restaurant has lots of potential and all the help seemed nice. At this time I think they have a few bugs to work out but Yelp doesn't have a new restaurant rating that I think is needed. 3 stars according to Yelp means A-OK and this restaurant sure does have potential for more. read more

Second time ordering from this place. First time, the food was good but the order was wrong. When ordering the dishes with the "rice or fries" option, like the beef swarma dish, there is no actual way to indicate if you want rice or fries when ordering online.. so that's stupid. Hands down the customer service is EXCELLENT! It started with a phone call asking if they had gluten free options. The woman on the phone said, everything is gluten free with the exception of the pita bread. I felt like angels were singing. We got to the restaurant around 5pm. We were seated right away and given menus. Our waitress told us she would be right back to answer any questions she was just going to close out another table. We didn't mind, as it gave us the opportunity to explore the menu. Once the waitress came back we were ready to place our orders. We let her know I had celiac and the rest of my family has a gluten intolerance. She remembered we had called and told us not to worry. We all ordered different plates (Tikka Beef Plate, Beef Shawarma, Mixed Kabob plate) and my youngest son asked for a side of French fries in addition to his plate. Our waitress was so amazing she came back to tell us the fries are fried in a shared fryer with the flour tortilla chips and asked if we still wanted them. The level of customer service is simply outstanding. Once our order came out, we were excited to dig in. You can taste all the different spices in each of the dishes, but the beef shawarma had a flavor that did not disappoint. The ribeye meat from the tikka dish was cooked to perfection. Not overcooked or tough, just right. The mixed kabob plate, was a hit! The lamb skewer was rich and delightful. The rice was so good that my boys ordered 2 additional sides of it. Food was not very good. My husband ordered the grape leaves and they tasted like they came out of a can. We both ordered the falafel wrap. The wrap was good however the falafel were greasy and had no flavor. I think they made them from a dry mix - definitely not home made. Prices were high - will not be going back. We tried this place for the first time since we work across the street . They have a lot of lamb on their menu which we are not fans of but that's ok . We order the beef shawarma because it wasn't lamb but as soon as i bit into it i tasted lamb . It was very gamy .my coworker and I were like this has to be lamb . It's gross . We ask that non personable waitress if we ordered lamb or beef and she said it's beef but cooked in lamb fat . Please if ur gonna do that put it in ur menu because u can taste the gamy lamb . We paid 45 dollars for lunch and it was gross . That's something you should have told us if we are ordering beef . The rude waitress just walked away and we were not even done talking to her . No we will not be going back . If you like lamb and gamy meat this place is for you but as a non lamb eater i thought it was gross .
