Really underwhelming experience tonight. Our server was good she seemed overwhelmed and overworked. We started off with two cups of chicken velvet soup that wasn't bad but came out scorching hot like it was nuked in the microwave. The wait in between food was so long. We waited at least 30 minutes between getting our soups then felt a little longer than 39 minutes for our entrées. My pineapple fire was ok it had a good burn but the drink could have been better.my wife ordered the chicken Parmesan which the spaghetti half with marinara tasted like Ragu sauce and the Alfredo half just sucked. The chicken was just ok. I ordered an 8 oz filet with Parmesan risotto and asparagus. The filet was great it was cooked a perfect medium it really was a good steak. The risotto was bland and mushy. The asparagus again was bland, it really needed seasoning bad. We tipped our server pretty well especially for it being nye. But overall the food was just not good. The servers didn't seem to help each other out and run food. They all seemed to be busy doing other things which I don't blame them it is nye and they probably want to leave. Unfortunately I don't think we will be back which is a shame we both love every Cunningham group restaurant we've been too so it's sad to finally be to one that was a let down read more

Had an amazing experience at Charbonos this weekend! Food was great and our server/bartender Elizabeth was so kind and helpful. Their manager came by and he convinced us to get dessert, (carrot cake) we even took some home too! I love great food - especially when served in the BAR. I am a bar diner. I prefer eating a great dinner in the bar when I can. This is one location where you can do that and be assured you are going to dine with the same experience as the dining room. I have been dining here for a long time as it is less than a mile from my home. In all my visits I have never had a bad meal. The shrimp cocktail is one of the best. The filet is as good as any you will get in a downtown Indy establishment. From the soups and salads to the dessert I have had almost everything on the menu and I would order it all again. The cocktails are fair priced and the choice of wines are above average. To top it off, the service has always been stellar !! The location may fool you since it is located at the end of the Kroger Strip Center but don't let it. This is by far the nicest and best of all locations in Avon. I have never had to wait longer than 15 minutes on a table and they do accept reservations, so if you are planning on going, take advantage. Parking is a plenty. All in all, you can't go wrong. This is the place to go in Avon...or worth the drive if you are not. read more

Only giving 4 stars due to service. This is 5 star quality food. I had the 10oz sirloin (Med rare and cooked to perfection), asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes. My wife enjoyed their seafood pasta with cream sauce, shrimp, and scallops. The food here is excellent, i just had some minor concerns with service. 1. Waited for about 20 minutes before we got our drinks and the bread and oil (which was delicious). 2. My steak was brought with no steak knife, had to wait about 10 minutes for a server to finally come around and get one. 3. We were sitting in the middle of the restaurant, but i just felt a little lost in the mix. Attentiveness was at a minimum, and refills/ check-ins were very delayed. We were in the Avon area and we were craving fried calamari. Went here on a whim... it was pretty busy at 7PM on a Friday night, but we were seated immediately. Ordered calamari as an appetizer - it was delicious and the spicy red chili aioli was really good. We had the Scallop entree and the Chicken Scaloppini. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were on a bed of delicious caramelized onion risotto. The Chicken Scaloppini was SO good - the prosciutto sherry cream sauce is what made it. The server suggested changing from bleu cheese mashed potatoes to garlic mashed potatoes for the Chicken Scaloppini, and it was pure comfort food. Service was excellent. I was disappointed with a 5 oz pour for my glass of red wine, and to me, it seemed even less than 5 oz. I mentioned this to my waiter, and he said he'll see what he can do. He came back with another 5 ounces of wine and poured it in my glass. That type of over-the-top service made me an extremely happy customer. I often forget about Charbono's. I've always had good experiences so I'm not sure why it doesn't come to mind. I've eaten at tables, at the bar and last night went for carry-out. I ordered the Bourbon Street pasta and the bread pudding for dessert. It also comes with their delicious bread and oil (even when you carry-out). It was a very good/very large portion. I was able to split it up and have it for lunch again today. It heats up nicely. As someone else mentioned, it came with shredded chicken. I found the texture to be a slightly off-putting. Not a huge deal, but a grilled sliced chicken breast would have been a lot better. The bread pudding has cranberries and is glazed with a bourbon sauce. It is served with vanilla ice cream. I will definitely get that again. Sooo good. The service is always spot on. When you order carryout at the bar, they offer you something to drink. It's a nice touch and very much appreciated. I always partake in an iced tea. They have great brewed iced tea. I'm a tea snob so I truly value a good one. Also worth noting, when you order a salad with chicken (or any hot meat, I assume) they wrap it separately so it doesn't wilt the greens. It's the little things right? On previous visits, I've had the chicken applewood salad, steaks, pizzas and short ribs. Even their side salad is upscale and tasty. Decent place in Avon for some slightly Mediterranean, mostly American Contemporary fare. Came for lunch with coworkers, it was bustling. The interior is nicely decorated, it has a sort of lodge feel, beams and bricks...not sure how that goes with the Italian-ish menu, but it is comfortable and also lends a more upscale feeling to the restaurant. The food is good, I had a steak salad and the steak was prepared the way that I wanted and not overdone. The service was a little lax, our server was a little bit flaky, but nice. Overall decent, I would go again and see if I liked it better. From the other reviews, it seems to fluctuate on quality and service so it might be a crapshoot whether or not you will have a good experience here. read more

So there are so few options in Avon and this place stands out in the crowd among st CHAIN USA HELL. It is owned by the same people who run Mesh on Mass, Stone Creek and Bru Burger. Seriously -- how does one company do so well with multiple menus and offer so much consistency. It's impressive. We had excellent lunch service in the bar. I ordered the small house salad and ahi tuna app for my lunch along with LOTS of wine (my favorite was the red blend). It was a great lunch so I brought my hubby back two weeks later for apps before a party we were invited to. We sat at the beautiful expansive bar and indulged in some meat and cheese and it was a great way to begin a date night. It wasn't busy on a Saturday evening at 6ish. I think they probably get busier as the evening goes on. They have a very dim romantic atmosphere in the bar, which we REALLY like. The TVs don't steal the attention and the service was stellar. We also loved the bread (which I normally skip). Oh em gee...no more skipping. So soft, flavorful and dippable! If you aren't interested in going downtown or to the northside for a good meal and you are in Avon, give this place a go. Price point is on par and really good food! read more

From start to finish, it was pretty shoddy food and service. I try not to be terribly critical of servers because I've been there, but when servers can't get it together as a unit, there's bound to be problems. Made it here for a double date, recommended by the adjoining couple. We were initially seated at a rickety table in the middle of the dining room, which I hate. Why can't we have that comfy, empty booth over there? With a nudge to Rob, he politely asked the hostess if we could be moved...to the booth. The lighting is low and intimate - good for dates and family dining. Our waitress was not very personable. Rob made a joke, and she stared at him like he just gave her the finger. I chimed in to let her know that jokes are not his forte. Maybe it's just me, but I would laugh at bad jokes all day when I was working in customer service. Whatever I had to do to make the customer feel special and valued. I ordered a cup of French onion soup and an iceberg salad, and Rob had the calamari. The waitress asked if I wanted my soup and salad with the appetizers, which I did. Then another waitress brought his calamari out before my soup and salad. Soup and salad were good, but Rob felt jiped on the calamari. He said the quality of his squid was very bottom of the barrel. Entrees were chicken scallopine and ponzu salmon... brought by ANOTHER strange waitress. The chicken was breaded with a creamy mushroom sauce and bacon. Pretty good, but pretty heavy. Wish the menu said if the chicken was breaded or grilled. Rob really enjoyed the ponzu sauce with the salmon. Getting drink refill was like trying to hail a cab in NYC. There are few of what I would call "upscale" restaurants in Avon. I'm not sure why, and I've begged the business development centers to seek out more upscale restaurants and organic stores with no luck. I digress. We discovered Charbonos years ago, but weren't all that impressed. We decided to try it again on the off chance it was just a fluke and we are SO glad that we did. They have prime rib on random nights, so when you do find that they have it - get it. It's the best prime rib you'll ever have. Baked potatoes are soft and delicious. Bread is amazing and comes with a blended oil dip. Veggies are fresh as they come. And creme brûlée? Yes, please! You'll be hard pressed to find something bad on this menu, so go for it. I went here on a suggestion from the front desk staff at my hotel when I told them I was tired of the usual fare from the chain restaurants. I was about to head to an Applebee's, Longhorn, etc. and I am sure glad that he suggested this place. The atmosphere is very relaxed with a nice water feature in the middle of the dining area which would help to drown out some of the conversation from adjacent tables (no pun intended). It was fairly slow when I was there (somewhat early on a Tuesday) so I had most of the place to myself. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Like most people have commented on, the menu has a lot of great options. I settled on the Fettuccine Charbono and was not disappointed. It was LOADED with shrimp and a couple of perfectly cooked scallops, all served hot and quickly after the order was put in. Their bread was also surprisingly good - fluffy and warm and with an interesting and delicious oil. Burger under cooked never asked how we wanted it. Good Ceaser Salad Dressing but lettuce was a bit wilted. Chicken Parm good flavor but should be served off of the noodles it made it soggy. Come for the bread and oil, stay for the meal! Charbonos is an Avon institution, and deserves the reputation it has. The complimentary bread and oil is like an angel massaging your taste buds. It is, simply, among the most amazing things you will ever experience. I normally go for the pasta, but the Greek Pizza has a lot to offer at modest cost. The fried artichokes present an intellectual dilemma - are they accompaniment or topping? Either way, I found them unnecessary but still delicious. The pie itself was an amazing thin crust composition of utmost succulence. The 'chokes, fortunately, can be removed quite easily, as there is nothing anchoring them to the pizza itself. When we first moved to Indiana 5 years ago, we stumbled upon Charbonos while looking for someplace nice to have a birthday dinner. Avon isn't exactly known for its upscale dining, so this seemed to fit the bill. Sure enough, we weren't disappointed. From the street, I don't think I'd bat an eye at Charbonos. Located in a strip mall next to a Kroger store, it doesn't exactly stand out. However, the interior is fantastic. Comfortable booths, trendy tables and a gorgeous and amply sized bar. As far as food goes, we have yet to try something here we didn't care for. Some personal favorites include the scallops and the ahi tuna appetizer. They also have wonderful flatbreads and pizzas. The staff is always knowledgeable and helpful and the service is always prompt and efficient. My only gripe (as with other Cunningham restaurants) is that despite the quality and taste, their prices are still high for what you are getting. If they came down about 10% in price, they'd be right in line with what they're selling. Not a gripe, but if they're reading this, they should also put in a patio on the right side of the building! read more

Here I am a skeptical out-of-towner in Indianapolis for business. Looking for a nice dinner without the hub-bub of Super Bowl. The hotel recommends Charbono's. From the cheery hostess Alyssa to our incredible server, Sam, I really don't know what I liked more - the service and personality of the staff or the food! great selection, great flavors and not your 'run of the mill' restaurant. Came here for a good friend's birthday. Was told ahead of time we could not make a reservation yet when we came in somebody in front of us said they had one and got a table. We got seated in a dark booth (is lighting not valued there?) and waited probably at least 15-20minutes before I got a waitress (not ours) to get our drinks. I tried Charbono's for the first time recently and ended up having a good experience. Knowing that the same company owned Stone Creek, I pretty well knew what to expect going in. The atmosphere was great, very warm and welcoming. The food, in my opinion, could be of slightly better quality for what we paid for it. The penne was good, but the burger I had could've use some improving. Not the best, but not the worst I've ever had. On a more positive note, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The waiter I had, Dakota, was phenomenal. He went out of his way to make my first experience here great. He suggested his favorite dishes for appetizers, entree, and dessert which helped me make my decision. I went with the medallions and lobster risotto, which was cooked perfectly. He also suggested since I enjoyed gin to try their cranberry mojito, which was also delicious. Will definitely be coming back and suggesting Dakota again. Great atmosphere, pleasant service, and pretty damn good food! First of all, the bread. Oh my god, the free bread and the dipping oil is amazing! I've been to this place twice and have not had a bad experience. The servers here are very accommodating and friendly. The last time I went, the menu was different than the menu I had found online, and since I had my heart set on a sandwich I saw online, I was ready to be disappointed. But when I mentioned this to the waiter, he promptly brought out the menu I had seen and said that the kitchen could make anything from there as well! The sandwich I got (vegetarian: roasted eggplant or something) was very delicious. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals as well, and the check was brought to us in a timely manner. The food here is delicious. The staff is always extremely friendly and professional. This is a great place to go out if you are wanting to eat nice Italian. I really like the pizzas here. The best thing here is the bread with dipping sauce... I don't know what is in it, but it is delightful. Never had a bad meal here- and I agree - the bread and dipping oil is really good. I've tried the Bistro Steak salad, the Bourbon St. pasta dish, the Applewood Chicken salad, the Iceberg wedge and the French onion soup-- all delicious and the service is quick. I also like that they have a bar area so you don't have to be seated next to unruly children... This place is great and I love that it's not a chain restaurant. AWESOME, I cannot say enough good things. The moment you walk in the door, you are greated with warmth. I love the wood work, and the water feature is always a nice touch. There are more servers here than I have ver seen anywhere. Very friendly staff and a excellent choice of meats, for us carnivores. Appetizers are very good here too.We had calimari, ahi tuna and spinach and artichoke dip. The wedge salad is crisp, bacon bits with just the right amount of dressing. Kinda dark on the inside, tile floors, upright seating, unless your in the private area. I got dessert to go. I couldn't eat anymore. read more

It is a bit on the pricey side but it is very much earned and I think why everything else is so high quality. Excellent service, wonderful appetizers, but my entreé was pitiful to say the least. I got the chicken parm, and there is no way on earth it wasnt frozen and microwaved. The breading was mushy. It was not cooked to order. The side of angel hair was overcooked and had too much sauce, also absolutely microwaved. For $16 of chicken parm, you can make it to order. It is incredibly simple and quick to make, has to be one of the simplest things on the menu. In fairness to them the waiter did overhear me telling others at my table i wasnt impressed. He wanted to make it right, but i didnt want to pick something new and wait and what not. I felt bad, definitely NOT his fault it wasnt good. I am sure there are other things on the menu that are excellent. The fried ravioli appetizer was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and kind. The Margarita Pizza has definitely changed. Maybe because they some how ran out of basil that night, but I doubt it. It really wasn't enjoyable at all. I was offered a side of pesto to add additional flavor, but that didn't help at all. What was still good is the French Onion Soup, which never fails. (The price did get bumped for a bowl up to $5.99, though not shown on the menu.) My cousin had the Linguini Charbono, which she said was good. Two star at best. Highly disappointed. Drink orders were not taken, bread was cold and hard. Entree of scallops were a set of 3 for $26, mediocre with weird char flavor. Prime rib looked great but was tough. Angel hair pasta served with chicken parmigiana was clumped together with an Alfredo paste. Another pasta dish was dry with minimal sauce and flavor. Garlic mashed potatoes were dry with no hints of garlic, idk how you mess up mashed potatoes. I am stumped. I've heard great things about this place was hoping they were just having an off day. The food was amazing. The staff was helpful and polite. I order bourbon street from the menu. When I tried to eat it, it was too spicy for me. I'm not able to tolerate even mild spicy food. The quickly made a similar dish using a different sauce. They didn't charge us for the first meal. We will be returning. The only real issue we had was seating. The booths are way to small.
