I decided to try this for the first time. I got the chicken kebab with one side and the chicken was seasoned and cooked perfectly. It had a wonderful flavor. The rice was good. The service was great. Everyone was very friendly. It was very quickly made. I think the best part was I got to tabouli as my side and it's made to order which meant that I could Customize it and have no cucumber which made me very happy. It was a great experience at Char Char yesterday. The staff is so nice and friendly. They welcomed us as we were first timers and let us try their soup. The bean soup is excellent. I got the chicken kabob plate and that was very good. The chicken was perfectly cooked. I will be back to try their famous baked chicken! The store is clean with lots of seating. Excellent food, service could be better, one of the cleanest Mediterranean restaurant. Came in on a Monday night as a first timer. The restaurant wasn't too busy. Ordered at the counter for dine-in. Not sure if you pay after ordering or not, but I was able to get seated without paying. The male owner (I think) was at the counter this night. Not once did I see him smile when greeting customers. I started out with the beef and chicken combination platter. I can tell you immediately that Char Char has the most moist and soft piece of chicken and beef you'll find at a Mediterranean restaurant. The meats were savory to the taste, and melted in your mouth with each bite. The portion size was rather small and the price was a little steep compared to other Mediterranean restaurants, $25. For someone with a short stature like myself, I could really eat. I finished the beef and chicken combination platter in less than 15 minutes. The owner brought me a bill to my table and told me "You must be hungry." I replied, "Yes" and told him to "hold on" on the bill. I walked to the next table to ask a couple dining in that night whether they like their char broiled quarter chicken which they did. I went up to the counter and ordered the quarter dark chicken. The owner then said "But you have to pay first buddy." With everything that has transpired, I felt like he was afraid I wasn't going to pay. Again, this was what I "FELT" at the time which could just be me. I was not impressed by the char broiled chicken. The chicken was done well because the meats fall off the bones with each bite. It just lacked flavor. The BBQ sauce helped but it wasn't enough. The combination platter was simply superior in every aspect. Finished dining around 7:50 PM and the doors were locked. I don't really understand why not just close at 7:30 PM, instead of 8 PM. I would not be happy if I were to show up at 7:45 PM and couldn't get in. Putting all personal biases aside, I gave Char Char a 4/5 stars. A case could be made for 3.5 stars. The beef and combination platter was delicious. The price on the combination platters could be cheaper. The customer service could definitely be better. read more

Food was delicious. Jim is an awesome guy he helped my girlfriend and I decide on what to get as we don't eat Mediterranean food too much. He even let us try pinto bean soup and it was so delicious. While this restaurant may not seem fancy or modern, the food and service left an indelible mark on me and my friends. The owners who were very hospitable to us ran their restaurant as if it was their beloved home. The waiter constantly checked up on us, even accommodating us when the restaurant was near closing. My friend and I ordered a beef and gyro combination platter with two sides of potato salad and tabouli to share-a perfect amount of food. My other two friends ordered a chicken dish as well. Everything was well-seasoned with good portions. Being able to try each dish, I found that my favorite was the beef. The beef holds a lot of depth, which (I'm guessing) might be attributed to spices mixed into ground beef, molded on the kebab stick, and then chargrilled. I can see how it might not suit many people's palates. But you really must try it!! read more

This is different than all the chicken you've had, the owner cooks it for 5 hours he stated. My wife and I had the half chicken on a bed of rice , hummus, corn, potato salad and side salad. The chicken fall of the bone and the wife literally says this is the best chicken she has ever had. And that by all means, this is probably the greatest compliment. I'm having trouble with my taste buds since I'm getting chemo. But I'd have to say, I don't like dry chicken and this is more than moist. We drove all the way from Dallas to Tulsa for a wedding. We got here about two o'clock and just wanted to have a light lunch. We yelped as usual and spotted this place. Good rating so it won't hurt to try. When you walk in, you realize it's a mom and pop place right away. No fancy decoration, but the place is neat and clean. There is a good selection on the menu, like kabob, gyro, and believe or not baked chicken. We order the chicken kabob. The chicken is nicely charred, tender and savory. But I would like it to be a bit more moist. The house salad is as fresh as it could get. It has cucumbers, tomatoes, unions, parsley, plus the home made balsamic. It is great! What's more, the veggies are organic! We also have the vegetable soup. It is rich and yummy. If you like beans, you can try the bean soup option. The hostess is extremely friendly and very patient to let you decide what you want for your meal. If you can't decide, she would let you sample some. How nice! To finish our meal, we have a piece of baklava. It's nutty, but not too sweet. We could have a few more! We also like the basmati rice. The server/owner says It is not from Tulsa, but she ordered it from another place. The saffron is from her own country though. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend you to try. read more

First off, to be fair the food may be good here. I was helping my son tag his new car at the tag agency a few doors down and just popped in to use the restroom. As I was leaving an older gentleman behind the counter muttered "get the f**k outta here" under his breath but loud enough that I could hear as I was walking out. Like I said I was just dropping in to use the bathroom and I didn't know what kind of food establishment served. This is an unexpected find. Jimmy, the owner, and his wife (who we did not have the pleasure to meet) seeks to give you a delicious meal. He delivers on his promise. We ordered the chicken and two sides and the gyro and three sides (hummous, vegetables, tabbouli). My chicken was wonderfully grilled with a touch of saffron for color. The rice was fluffy and tasty. The tabbouli was freshly made. Char Char uses fresh lime julce. I'm accoustomed to lemon, and even the fresh lime (not bottled) didn't totally convert me. I would like to have had more tahini in the hummous. Jimmy told me next time just ask for more. Prices reasonable: 13-15 for combination plate 2-3 sides. Update 3/18/2024: My how things change. I see I was once so impressed with this establishment, I left a positive review. I take it all back. This is a great place to go if you enjoy being mistreated and refused service when you arrive six minutes before closing. Imagine spending your day working, juggling childcare with your partner during spring break, getting home late, trying to determine what to have for dinner, deciding on Char Char, only to have the rude owner give you the cut throat sign as you walking, exclaiming "We're closed, man! We close at seven!" Baffled, I look at my watch, which reads 6:54. This must've offended him, because he said, "The sign is off!" No explanation offered as to why I have to figure out another option for feeding my family tonight. If this were a one time occurrence, I'd probably still be deeply offended. To be clear, this is my first time being refused service. But it's not my first time encountering a general rude, grumpy disposition from the owner. When we first discovered the restaurant, he always seemed so warm, kind, and engaging. Something changed. It's a shame; after years of eating here; dozens of times. This is how I'm treated. Today was my first experience. Food was excellent. Only one star because the owner is never wrong. Three of us were first time customers, one person's order was wrong. When asked, the owner was rude, said he is never wrong and that she ordered what he put on the paper. Very Disappointed. It was never about the tabouli, no matter who's mistake it was. I was in town visiting family over the holidays, and we decided to venture out and try some place new for lunch. We all enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and decided to give Char Char a try. Walking in, there was some soft music playing, the restaurant was very clean and well laid out, and the walls were adorned with beautiful artwork. The staff were busy preparing food as we approached the counter but promptly came up to greet us and take our order. We tried the chicken (both white meat and dark meat), chicken kabob, hummus, potato salad, and the soup of the day (pinto bean soup). The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and incredibly tender (absolutely try it with the barbecue sauce!). The kabob was grilled to order and had a great marinade as well. The sides were made fresh in house and were bright and vibrant. The soup put a unique spin on pinto beans, served in a well seasoned broth with a punch of acidity from fresh limes. The owner came out to check on us throughout our visit and was very gracious and welcoming. It was evident that they are passionate about what they do and take great pride in the food they serve.
