I've heard about Shawkat's for so long that it's ridiculous how long it took me to try this place out. It also doesn't help that I'm always in this area & usually missed the spot. When it comes to Mediterranean food & it's my first visit, 9 times out of 10 I'm trying the Falafel. That's what I went with here with a baklava for something sweet. The falafel is HUGE. I enjoyed the tahini sauce (I might mess around & ask for extra next time). Plenty of pickles in every bite. I splashed some hot sauce here & there to take it up a notch. I'd order it again. The baklava was good & had a distinctive taste. It didn't taste like the baklavas I'm used to (not in a bad way). It might've been as certain spice or the type of honey/syrup they used. This place is phenomenal. Usually a workday lunch takeout. Favorites are (1) the Jake's platter. Also, (2) the Greek salad +add chicken. Very simple but very well done. I recommend adding pit in Kalamata olives - so good. The Greek salad is a 2-meal serving for me. With the dressing well packaged in a cup, it tastes good the next day. We finally tried this place out for the first time today. I have been on a search for a great cabbage roll in the Tulsa area, and I finally found it! I got the cabbage roll platter, and I was so happy. It came with two huge cabbage rolls, hummus, tabouli and pita bread. The cabbage rolls were super tender and packed with flavor. The tabouli and hummus were both amazing as well, probably the best I have had. I also ordered a chicken skewer on the side, which was tender, juicy and had a great char to the meat. The service here was also fantastic. It was our first visit, and we let the cashier know this. She gave us some recommendations also let my wife know about the vegetarian specials for the day, which she really appreciated. I can't say enough good things about this place. I am excited to go back and try some more menu items, but I will probably order a cabbage roll every time as well read more

I have worked close to their restaurant for years and had not visited until very recently. I usually bring my lunch to work to save money but this day my husband came up to have lunch with me. This restaurant is only open for lunch during the week, with slightly longer hours on Saturdays. When we visited around 12:15 on a Tuesday it was packed!! Line out the door! We quickly learned why - it's an amazing value and the food is so, so good! The owner was running the register and was super friendly, explaining the available vegan options and the daily specials. My husband ordered the cabbage roll plate - it comes with 2 massive cabbage rolls, hummus, tabouli, and pita bread. I ordered the vegan sampler which included a vegan cabbage roll, 2 stuffed grape leaves, hummus, tabouli, a falafel, and tahini for dipping. Our food was so flavorful! Everything was great. The falafel was not dry at all on the inside, but nice and crunchy on the outside. My husband loved his cabbage rolls. We also ordered a piece of baklava to try - it was delicious as well!! Even though it was super busy on our visit we were still able to find a table. The staff kept the tables cleared off and the food came out quickly. There are to-go containers available on top of the dessert case; you don't have to wait for a staff member to get you one when you're ready to go. Came here for lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised to find it busy with patrons, especially since it looked like a hole in the wall. You order your meal at the counter, and they offer a wide variety of dishes. I could be wrong, but I believe the cuisine is Lebanese. I originally planned to order the Jake Special, but when I saw they had chicken shawarma, I had to try it. Unfortunately, the chicken shawarma wasn't the style I expected--I was anticipating shaved meat from a skewer, but their version tasted more like seasoned boiled chicken. Fortunately, it came with tahini, which was superb. That said, the rice was really fluffy and delicious, the tabbouleh was top-notch, and the hummus was on point. How did I not know about this place! Are here with a friend recently and holy cow it was fantastic. One of those meals with not a lot of talking and a whole lot of eating. The prices are a little more towards being expensive but the quality of food seems to justify some of it. I know everything is just getting more expensive these days so it is what it is. One of my new favorites! And Shawkat's has been around for a while. My husband and I went for lunch and wondered why we have waited so long to return. The lebanese food is so authentic and delicious. Very friendly and helpful service. My husband had the Sampler Platter. It had 2 grape leaves, a big cabbage roll, falafel and kibbi along with tabouli, hummus and pita bread. The Jake's special (1 chicken skewer and 1 kafta skewer) was great. The beef was definitely better than the chicken. Both were well seasoned but the chicken was kind of dry. The rice was not basmati. It was really soft and had ground beef in it. I really liked the rice at Shawkat's. Why not 5 stars? The hours of operation are terrible. We've been coming here for years and we've never had anything less than a great experience. The vegan food is so good and there are so many options! For the meaty friends, they have plenty of stuff that our meaty friends like. The baba ganoush here is one of my favorites in town, same with the falafel. The tabbouleh might be my favorite. The parsley is fresh, the lemon tang is awesome, just all around a really good time. The service is also always en pointe. Everyone is nice, helpful, and can answer questions about the food. Great experience calling in my order. The lady who answered was kind. Also I picked up my order a little late, and she was understanding. The order (from a NOT mediterranean food connoisseur ): Gyro wrap - delicious and well balanced with onion, pickles, meat, tzatziki, and warm pita bread. Gyro meat was well spiced and just overall really delish. Gyro platter #2 (rice instead of a wrap) - rice looked like brown rice but tasted savory and paired well with the meat. Tzatziki was on the side. Hummus was mild and was a more fluid consistency and tasted great with the side of 2 pita bread quarters. Tabouli has a combination taste of subtle tangy and herbs/parsley (kinda refreshing). Beef shawarma wrap platter - beef was well done but still had juiciness and good flavor. Was well combined with tomato, parsley, and some kind of sauce. The wrap easily fell apart and became messy, but that's all right haha. My dad and I will drive an hour to eat at this quant restaurant. We do our best to try different things each time, but the hummus, tabouli, fatayer, and gyros can't be beaten. Every single dish is freshly made with the yummiest and best ingredients. Serving sizes are a little small, but that's to be expected when food is made fresh each and every time. I'll admit it: I think about Shawkat's way too much. It also doesn't help that they're located so close to my work; I will seriously be like, "Hmm, it's not the end of the world if I don't make lunch for tomorrow; I'll just have Shawkat's!" Shawkat's was also me first dipping my toes into Mediterranean waters - I mean fare, so maybe it's because it's my first taste of this sort of food that's gotten me to come back so often. Even so, I've been to a few other places in OKC that are good, too, but Shawkat's is where I like to be. My only complaint is that they aren't open past 3pm, which is a bit limiting. I started a little shy here, so I would often get the gyro wrap, which I really liked. The tzatzki sauce is so light and pairs with the heavier sliced gyro meat well, and I love the fresh combination of the parsley and tomatoes in this wrap. I was not as fond of the shawarma, as I did not like the tahini sauce so much. My friends tend to really like the cabbage rolls here, another choice I felt was simply okay. However, I will consistently come back for my favorite entree - Jake's Special. It comes with a chicken skewer that is so perfectly seasoned along with a kafta skewer served on a bed of hashwa rice. The seasonings that come on this platter are a great combination so you aren't getting too sick of tasting items that may be too similar. My advice for those of you who can't make up their mind because this menu is so extensive (trust me, I've been there) would be to get your hands on the sampler platter. I shared that with a friend, and I liked the grape leaves and falafel. It was a really good way to try a little bit of everything! They also have a lot of baked goods that may seem scattered around. My favorite is the small manakish that looks like a little pizza covered in cheese. And of course, baklava is the way to my heart, so I get that regularly here as well. read more
