I also experienced absolutely unforgivable service/ attitude from staff and a man that appeared to be the owner. Why own a restaurant if you hate serving people?? The tall older man that appeared to be the owner was visibly angry and extremely aggressive to us and other customers in the restaurant. It was busy and the service was so slow our friend asked for her breakfast burrito to go, about 45 min later, the man (owner?) stood at the counter - about 10 feet away - looked in our direction and mumbled something while holding up a paper sack. We all turned and politely said, "What?" He then made these extreme exasperated gestures, mumbled something aggressively, and then literally SLAMMED the paper sack down on the counter and walked away in a huff. We had to wait for a different staff member to appear so we could ask her if that was my friend's food. I am not exaggerating here, this actually happened. We also observed the angry man seating a father and son. He gruffly pointed at some seats and aggressively said, "You sit there." And then he slammed two menus down on the table. We did absolutely nothing to provoke this man's rage or the rudeness of the first server. Seriously, we are nice, easy going people. The people that run this place are the WORST and should seriously consider careers that don't involve customer service. read more

Outstanding.... the amazing lady at the front desk of the Roxbury hotel, called and asked if they would stay open for me, as I checked in at 755 pm... they said yes so I headed up... just had a burger and fries but DAMN!!! Cooked perfectly, plating was superb, and the fries were unseasoned, just how I like them... great portion too!!! Had a couple IPA's and headed out. Great staff, amazing craft beer selection (mostly local) and food was top notch... will visit again for sure!!!! read more

Too funny, the owner was an asshole to me too! I laugh as I read the reviews, so with this being said, it is walking distance of the Roxbury Hotel. So if you do not feel like driving you have no other choice. The food is average, the place is really cute, the coffee is insipid. I wonder who licked the red off of his candy. read more

Chappie's was just incredible and super accommodating. My fiancé and I were staying up the road at the Roxbury Motel , which had Chappie's on their website, so we decided to give them a try and we are SO glad we did ! We ate here 3 times in the 2 day stay here in the Catskills , it was THAT good. Loved how accommodating they were also. We were in the mood for "boozy brunch" and we had asked if we could order a Bloody Mary and a mimosa , without hesitation, they whipped it up for us, even though it wasn't on the menu. Josie was our server each time and she was a breath of fresh air and extremely sweet! After searching for other restaurants in the area, a lot of places weren't open until 4 pm or had outside seating ONLY and the rain put a damper on having to sit outside and dine. But at Chappie's , they did a very good job keeping tables indoors 6 feet apart and the food was AMAZING! Try the cheeseburger with horseradish aioli ! Best burger I've had in a while actually. Will be back for sure ! read more

We had to wait 2 hours to get our dinner! One cook, no one else helping him. Two servers. Looked like those with reservations got served first. No apologies, comped us our 3 seltzers - really!?!?!?! When we asked, after an hour of waiting, they said our food was being cooked - it was an hour later that it actually came. We even asked if we could at least get our fried calamari appetizer - nope! They said they would bring more bread - but never brought it! They even seemed irritated at us for asking where our food was. Food, when we got it, was not great either. The curry butternut squash soup did not have any taste of curry. The turkey hash - turkey was as dry as leather. The Pad Tai was just noodles with sesame oil. Do not bother! read more

I was in the Catskills recently with my fiance and his family to plan our wedding, and Cassie's was recommended to us for lunch. And I'm so glad it was, because we loved everything from the ambiance to the food. Very cute interior, everyone was very friendly and the service was fast. We all got sandwiches, and everyone was raving. Honestly, one of the best roast beef sandwiches I've ever had. So much flavor, and not dry at all. Yum. And then we each ordered pie to share for dessert, and omg...amazing. I'd eat a piece of banana cream pie from Cassie's every day for lunch if I thought it wouldn't kill me. Thanks so much for a great place to grab lunch as a family, and for food so good we're still emailing about it! We'll def be back next time we're in the area. read more

We just left this place with empty stomachs. In the past, the service has definitely been slow here, but we like the food and the prices so we've been willing to tolerate it. However, after our experience today we won't be going back. It took forever for them to even acknowledge we were there and seat us. After we ordered, 45 minutes passed as we watched plenty of tables around us get their meals, despite having arrived AFTER US. We also watched the table next to us receive orange juice about 5 minutes after we'd been told they didn't have any orange juice. Other tables also got water and coffee refills while we were ignored. After almost an hour we asked if our food would be on the way soon and we were treated very rudely. I've worked in service for years and I understand mistakes happen, especially when it's busy - I'm guessing they forgot to put our order in. Honestly that's fine, but instead of owning up to the mistake, apologizing, and expediting the service, the waitress basically said there was nothing she could do about it and that we'd still have to wait a while, all the while seeming very angry that we had even asked about the food. We asked for more coffee while we waited and we never got it. At that point we decided to leave It was clear our food hadn't even started to be made and the attitude in the place was making us all feel uncomfortable. We left cash for our coffee and high-tailed it to Picnic, a place where we're always treated superbly. Was it because we were a table of 4 gay people? Was it because we don't look local? (We live in Delaware County btw). We'll never know, but it was the worst service I've ever received. And it really felt like we were singled out for that bad service, rather than it just being a random series of misunderstandings and mistakes. read more

Was driving through and decided to stop for lunch and so glad we did. The staff was so attentive and nice but the food... Excellent! My husband had a steak sandwich and I had a BLT. Never have I had a BLT like this one! I feel like driving all the way back up just to have it again LOL and the homemade fries!!! We also had our dog with us and they quickly got him water and some chicken. Love this place and the people are wonderful. Definitely check it out! Will be back again... read more

On a trip up to Roxbury to look at wedding venues, we stopped into Cassie's after an appointment. The staff/owner/chef are some of the nicest, most welcoming people I've ever met. The space is welcoming, the food is delicious and affordable. Such a gem hidden in a small mountain town. read more

This review is for the terrible customer service and not the actual food because we never actually got to eat it. I called Chappie's over a month before an event we were having in Roxbury. I asked if they could accommodate an order for 30 pies of pizza the night before our event and was assured they could but I'd just need to contact them again the Monday before the event. I called that Monday and was told that someone would call me back by end of day to confirm what we wanted to order. I never heard back from anyone and when I called back, I was on hold for 10 mins before I had to hang up and when I tried to call back, no one answered. In the voicemail, they asked that orders be emailed to them so I tried to contact them via email. No answer until the day before we needed the pizza and that was only to say they were too busy to accommodate the order. I replied letting the owner know what had happened and got no response or any kind of apology. read more

I go to Chappies/Cassie's often and it's a great place for dinner. One waiter there (blond lady) is a bit of a nutcase and pretty short with customers, but others are super friendly. Chicken is to die for! Burger is amazing! read more

I made reservations about a month in advance, because there were 8 of us meeting up in Roxbury. Thankfully, I read some of the most recent reviews and warned my group that we may be in for a wait. Yes.... service was indeed slow and a bit disorganized, but we were patient and enjoying ourselves, so it was ok. The reward for our patience was delicious food. We were all happy with our choices. All the pizzas, especially the Soprano Pizza, were so tasty. The burger and fries ... the chicken pesto sandwich, all thumbs up from my crew. If you're not in a hurry and are patient with a busy (yet nice) staff... try Chappie's. We all enjoyed the evening and would definitely recommend. It was a great start to a fun weekend. read more

Super accommodating! The food was so good! great host (Shawn) and friendly waitstaff. Will definitely visit again. The ambiance is also really pretty. LOVED IT ALL! read more

It may seem like a lovely place from a far distance, but they need better management and better staff training to make it a worthy experience. At about 5 pm on Tuesday, the place wasn't too busy, there were 4 tables busy outside, and about the same amount of tables busy inside, as well. 3 waiters on the floor and the following happened: - We waited for 45 mins for a hummus entree (that we eventually canceled after waiting for so long, and it wasn't take off our bill!) - We got the main courses after more than 1 hour, the food was of average quality - We asked two times for another round of drinks before we got them 20 mins later, and two times for another tap water bottle that never arrived - Our waiter did not pay attention to our table at all, and when asked, he seemed bothered by our simple request to get us what we ordered - When the food came we had no sauces on the table, and the table napkins were scarce - In the meantime, three ladies complained that their reservation wasn't honoured, and another waiter did not try much to accommodate them - Another table that came after us got served before, leaving us wondering how that happened Not to add that the food is too pricey for what it's worth. I have empathy and understanding for the hospitality jobs and I know based on my experience that it is not easy to offer a good service, but I found their behaviour unacceptable and unprofessional. If this place had a rival in Roxbury central, it would run out of business instantly and for good reasons! It is not our first time there, but for sure it was our last, since every time the service was disappointing, which points out to bad management. Good luck! read more

We ordered during our stay at the Roxbury Hotel. They delivered right to our room. Still hot. I will say the mushroom soup was amazing. Best I have ever had with that piece of grilled seeded bread. It was like being back in Ireland. Then off to Buffalo for some great extra crispy wings. Done very well, I should know being from Buffalo. Then finished with a salad. The lettuce leaves were left almost whole, which I am so used to a chopped salad, was different. First time I have ever enjoyed G G dressing, it was amazing. Over all a fabulous salad. Great taste. My husband had the Soprano Pizza and loved it. Went for the truffle fries again. Always a hit. I recommend this place over all the others. read more

I'm disappointed in the new breakfast menu. I've been going to Cassie's for years, and it was always a friendly, reliable, sit-down spot for breakfast. The new menu is missing omelettes, egg/pancake combos, and usual breakfast staples. There are some interesting additions like biscuits and gravy, but many standard items are gone. I won't be going back as often as the menu doesn't fit my breakfast taste anymore. read more

Not the best service. Waited almost 30 minutes to order when others seated after us had already ordered. The food was not worth the price. The waiter called me sir. I am a woman. Ordered dessert to go and did not get the ice cream that comes with it. Got charged a whole extra meal we didn't order. Not the worst experience ever but also not the best. read more

The most delicious food and excellent service!!! I had French onion soup and the steak frites, which is a hanger steak with aoli and hand cut fries! It was unbelievable and cooked to a perfect medium rare (like i requested). My husband had a Hungarian mushroom soup and osso buco with polenta. For dessert we ordered a toffee bread pudding which is made in house! Sooooo delicious!!! Everything about Chappies was excellent! The staff, the food, the ambiance... everything!!! What a dump! I remember the place as Cassie's Cafe, which had good breakfast. It was redone as Chappie's. My husband and I and two friends who were visiting stopped by on Sunday for lunch. We stood at the doorway for five minutes (!) and were ignored by the two waitresses working who were in the back. Finally a customer told us to " just sit anywhere!" By this time, a waitress waddled over and seated us at the LEAST DIRTY table in the place. We hesitated, but sat down. The other waitress came over with menus. We ordered 3 unsweetened ice teas with lemon and a diet coke. It took a while, but she came back with two full 8oz glasses of ice tea and one that was only 3/4 full - and no lemon. Since she was there, we asked her what the soup of the day was - they were out of soup. I ordered the Rachel - I was told they were out of rye bread! We all had to rethink. She never brought the diet coke. But when she came back to take our orders, we were gong to have salads - but first asked how long that would take. We were told about 25 minutes! For salads??? We told her that we would just pay for the teas and go elsewhere. She said they were on the house. Since we didn't really eat there, I can't judge the food. But as a dining experience, it is terrible. Service is bad to nonexistent, out of food, and obviously management isn't on premises to monitor cleanliness!! Save your time and money and drive past this place! read more

No need to stop. Service was slow and pretty sure our waitress forgot about us. Had to chase her down for the check. My daughter ordered the salmon special and it arrived raw. Our waitress agreed and sent it back but we still had to pay for it. I do not recommend ordering anything expect water because an extremely small glass of seltzer was five dollars. We were also never offered dessert so was not able to put input on that unfortunately. Will not be returning. read more

The food and the staff here are awesome. Came here with my S.O for dinner after skiing. The ambiance was great with the candle light. Passing through Roxbury were surprised to see the Andes cafe is now in Roxbury. The food was superb. The NOISE was deafening.

The Missus and I were staying at the Roxbury and took a stroll "Downtown". We found Cassies Cafe. Old school interior but well appointed and clean. We went for dinner and started with a soup and a salad. My wife had the roasted beet and goat cheese salad which was enjoyable. I had the chicken/kale soup and it was very good. We both had the chicken special which came with roasted corn and macaroni salad. The servings of chicken were ample and food was quite good. The atmosphere is laid back and has a slower pace to it. The service is good and not at all rushed. Small town experience here. Check it out. It is pretty good. read more

Great, solid, and reliable place in an area where there isn't much else (especially not open 7 days a week).

Best chicken wings in the Catskills. I'm from Upstate New York and one of the biggest chicken wing snobs on the planet. Chappie's gets it right. SMALL wings delivering excellent sauces. Those giant wings everyone else serves are just processed chicken pumped full of hormones which upsets my stomach. These were amazing. Haven't had anything else in the menu but because of those wings I'll be willing to try. read more

I have all sympathies for establishments that are less than prepared for large groups, and I can forgive a missed order or some lag in the time it takes a small kitchen to put together a large list of meals - it happens, and I think most customers understand. However, I most definitely lack sympathy for establishments that deal with such situtations with the kind of flustered rudeness that I experienced this weekend. I witnessed a person being shouted at by the staff for holding a door open for a young lady (which I'd always assumed to be good manners). I witnessed a father being yelled at to "sit down" while trying to calm a fussy infant (which I'd always assumed would be a worse outcome for adjoining tables than a quiet infant.) And, I witnessed rudeness in the face of service delays where a kind understanding would have allayed the sheepish impatience being exhibited by hungry customers. This was not a reaction to uppity behavior by a gang of entitled cityfolk expecting a four-star dining experience - this was a seemingly willful attempt to alienate customers from what seemed at first look like an adorable hometown diner. If Cassie's Cafe's major problem is all the people clogging up the space hoping to get a nice meal, driving customers away should prove to be an effective solution. I suggest that the staff at Cassie's take the time to review the basic tenets of customer service. read more

I visited Roxbury last weekend with a group of friends for a wedding and we rented a house around the corner from Cassie's. With the hopes of Cassie's being a super cute, friendly, local establishment, we rolled in with a small group anticipating yummy food! Instead we got a grumpy staff, sub par food, and incredibly slow service. In the past, I worked as a server for many years, so i generally try to give people the benefit of the doubt. But the staff and owner's behavior were unforgivable. They didn't offer us any water, and when we finally asked we had to get up and get it ourselves... we practically had to beg for a refill on coffee and the food took an hour to come out. (simple food like pancakes and egg sandwiches). They forgot to bring us one item we ordered and the Owner huffed and shrugged us off and said "talk to your waitress" when we asked him to adjust the bill. Between the eye rolls from our waitress and audible groans from the owner, i was beginning to lose my appetite! This is the first time i have yelped about ANYTHING, so you can imagine i don't just go out of my way to bad mouth an establishment for "kicks." When you decide to open an establishment in a frequented vacation hot spot for travelers looking to escape the frustrations of the city, you should expect to get a seasonal rush of customers in the summer. I left there with a knot in my stomach similar to the knot i feel anytime i have to fight my way through times square during rush hour and some homeless guy decides to flash his wiener. Don't be that homeless guy, Cassie's... SHAPE UP! read more

While in upstate New York in a small town called Roxbury I had the extreme pleasure of enjoying a meal at Chappies. It was the BEST Italian food I have had in several years. I had the White shrimp pizza and my mind was blown there was so much shrimp in every bite. The arugula was a fresh and the taste added to everything. The head chef came out to great me and was so polite and made me feel like family. I would recommend Chappies to everyone. read more

With the closure of the excellent East Branch Cafe in Roxbury, I have now visited Cassie's regularly for breakfast. They are always slow to deliver food no matter how busy they are, and their food is mediocre at best. A friend of mine today had the blueberry pancakes, and they were mealy and without flavor. Also, some of us had a golf tee time today, and they not only took 45 minutes to deliver a simple order for 3 people, but when I asked for a little speed since we had that tee time, the waitress not only did not apologize for the long wait, or the fact they they were clearly doing takeout orders while people in restaurant were waiting a long time, she treated me like I was being rude and out of line. I will not be going again ever, and since I have a house in this area and know other places, would recommend Flour Patch in Margaretville or the Catskill Breakfast place in Arkville. Both are excellent, friendly and delicious. read more

Service is extremely slow and rude. Went here on a Sunday morning for breakfast, there was only one table when we got there and it took 25 minutes to make eggs. It started getting crowded when we finished and I asked the waitress for the check. I had to ask her several times, and each time she would just walk around and take more orders and serve drinks, coffee, and food to others. Terribly rude to make your customer wait over 20 minutes for a check! I finally walked up to the cashier myself and took my own check and still waited 10 minutes before she came to take my money. I was really about to walk out without paying. Seriously 30 minutes to give me my check? Unacceptable, they need a new server! read more

Wow, as I have ofen in my life before found myself - in the middle of nowhere - I attended a wonderful breakfast at Cassie's Cafe, which really made me feel uber-American. It was totally great though, a real family-run establishment that recognizes what good food, healthy portions, and quality service entails. All of the food was amazing, I smapled numerous omelettes, pancakes, waffles, toast, scrambles, sausages, and sausages. It was truly and eventful eating occasion and I was surprised to eat in such a laid bak atmosphere or once. Upstate New York does have some nice things! read more
