Good food, service was friendly and the drinks were good. Everything did take a little while to come out. I had a delicious chicken dish that I no longer see on the menu. The Kir Royale was a safe drink, I didn't like the flavor of the Kandy Machines but you'll have to try what you like. Dessert was yummy!!! read more

We had yummy clam chowder, brined turkey sandwich, dirty fries, side of Mac & cheese and amazing Korean chicken Sammie's. My scallop dish in a tomato sauce ....not so much as the tomato completely over powered the scallops. It was just ok. Brownie dessert.......box brownie heated in a microwave.......one bite warm and ok, next bite cold and not so much..... They focus on the main dish ...and over all the main dishes are really good...IF we were to go back....we won't....but if we did it would only be for a main course. read more

Three words: Korean Fried Chicken. If you're lucky enough to be there on an evening when the menu includes the Korean Fried Chicken, you better get it! I'm not sure, but I believe the menu changes depending on the chef, so you'll just have to get there on a lucky night! Although I'm sure their other food is just as delicious! I also really enjoyed the chicken pot pie! They also have amazing and unique cocktails. They are delicious and look very sophisticated. The staff was incredibly friendly. I believe our waitresses name was Anna! She was incredibly helpful, kind, and outgoing. At dinner the restaurant was crowded, but not terribly so! We were seated immediately and I didn't feel rushed throughout the meal or to crowded with the other patrons. The atmosphere was very classy and sophisticated without being to posh. They've managed to settle just 10 minutes walk from our house, and that was just a beginning :) This place serves extremely inventive food for a very reasonable prices, and the taste is awesome. For our first visit we ordered roasted bone marrow (generous portion!), barley risotto (crazy good combination of barley and kimchi) and lobster rissotto (one of the best we tried in a long while). The timing, the friendliness, the simple and nice ambiance - all was just right. And I really have to mention the best jazz music selection we encountered for a very long time. All in all: great newcomer to Dover we will go to over and over again. Wow! read more

I loved my pork cutlet wrap (which was juicy and delicious) and my lunch companions enjoyed their sandwiches, (Reuben and Sausage Torpedo.) Had dinner here for the first time last night. It was pretty busy, and we waited about 35-40 minutes for our food. My husband and I ordered the chicken & biscuit and steak frites to share. We like our steak medium rare but when the entrees came out initially, the steak was purple and cold in the middle. Our waiter apologized and when he brought it back, the steak was perfect. We liked the steak frites a lot- the other entree was fine, but nothing special. I think it's a bit pricey for the quality of the food. If I came back I might just do beer and appetizers. read more

First time there and while the location (being in a strip mall next to a pizza joint and a small market) raised an eyebrow, once you entered, the atmosphere transformed into a nice, modern industrial, hip style. We were seated by a friendly hostess and a friendly waiter took out drink order. The only criticisms I have (and let me get them out-of-the-way now) is that the house drinks are a little too unique and we didn't enjoy the one we chose, also the martini I ordered had a bit too much vermouth, in addition, I would've enjoyed something to eat with our drinks (bread, nuts, or something) as a starter. The menu, which our waiter, Alex, mentioned changes regularly, is interesting and unusual with regard to ingredients and combinations. I wish we had taken pictures of the food prior to eating it, as the plating was very nicely done, but the art of the appearance was not at the expense of taste (which helps to explain why we did not photograph them; they were delicious). We ordered the chicken kabob, and while the menu offered very little in the way of descriptions of the food, sounded good. It did not disappoint. It was fresh and delicious and was a nice small bite/starter for the two of us to share. Alex, our waiter, kept checking in with us, but not too much to be a bother, and kept our glasses full as the courses came. His service was spot on. We then had the brussel sprouts, which were delicious, the combination of the hint of frangelica infused butter and fried shallots were outstanding. I ordered the chicken milanese, and it was great. The chic was juicy and crispy and the arugula salad with orzo (and more) was a perfect combination of flavors. It was done very well. My wife's pan fried scallops, while different thicknesses, were each cooked perfectly (showcasing some skill!), and the sides were a delight. We cleaned our plates at each course. I was very impressed by the flavors, and the portion sizes were just right. Desert was outstanding. We had three choices and each sounded great. We settled on the warm brownie with caramel bourbon sauce and the coffee crema. Both were outstanding and a great ending to the meal. My wife kept on saying how happy she was, and that was worth it all. Overall, the atmosphere, the service, the quality and taste of the food, all made for a great night out for our anniversary dinner. We will be back. Delicious, well prepared food. We have been several times for brunch. The menu changes almost completely each time. The apps and sides, stay. I have had their eggs Benedict at least twice. Once the eggs were served on polenta cakes with lobster and an absolutely amazing brown butter hollandaise sauce. I could eat that sauce on anything ! Another time the eggs were on clam cakes, pork confit and 'regular' hollandaise sauce. I have had lobster risotto, which was better than any other risotto I've had. What we ate: apps: 7-layer dip, chop salad, spicy nuts, big plates: lobster risotto, chicken pot pie, whole trout. And somewhat less adventurous son was provided a grilled cheese with fries. Everything was fantastic. The kids loved the dip. I loved the nuts. The chop salad was not over dressed and the bacon was notably good even in the age of fancy bacon. Not salty, just right smokey. Lobster risotto had pronounced sherry note that created a welcome maple syrup sense on a brisk fall evening. Chicken pot pie was "deconstructed" in a fun, easier to eat way. Trout was just basically perfect. Seasoned all the way up the body jaw to tail and cooked to perfection. Don't ignore those cheeks! Yum! Beer: the names are wonderful, but I didn't write them down. IPA is beautifully balanced. Raw and cloudy enough for the current palate but not overdone. Again, balanced. Bierre de garde was perfect example of the style. American pale ale was a great slightly unique lower alcohol interpretation. A touch of herby floral that I don't typically find in pale ale. London brown porter reminded me how good porter can be and went perfectly with the brownie desert. You'll find a much roomier space than sister Black Birch. Arguable less cozy but we liked it. My wife preferred it. Clean and contemporary while also warm and welcoming. Take a walk down the back hall to peek in on the impeccably organized brewery. Congrats to the entire team, but most particularly to Ben and Skye. They've managed to preserve the DNA while still creating something entirely new. Black Birch minus any of the soul. Instead of great apps and small plates they are serving snacks (7 layer dip, lobster dip, etc) salads and a few dinners. I would have assumed a larger space would have meant a menu at least equal to BB. Food was just ok, Salmon that the waitress asked if medium rare was ok came out a thin tail piece that was medium well pushing well. Potatoes were a little al dente for my taste and lacked any discernible seasoning. Ordered the Uncle Grandpa (cocktail) which is really just a manhattan but extremely heavy on the bitters. Atmosphere really left something to be desired as well, from the sloppy paint job along the bench seating to the overly mismatched furniture and minimalist bar it is clear not a lot of thought went into the design. I also missed the funk and jazz of BB (William Onyeabar and Vince Guaraldi)and instead dined to classic rock and the sounds of Huey Lewis. If you live in Dover it may be worth a visit, if coming from out of town hop on the Spaulding and head to Black Birch instead. read more

Went in early this evening for the "soft opening" and was blew away by the small yet well thought out menu. The salmon rillettes and bone marrow popcorn were very delicious and not over filling. Main course was pan seared scallops served on a comfy bed of polenta laced with kale and topped with bacon. Dessert was a grape nut ice cream that made me feel like there was a maple touch to it but that may be the advancing years slowly creeping up on me... I wish Chapel + Main much success, another great addition to Dover NH!! read more

We hadn't been to Chapel & Main in two years. We were truly thrilled tonight. Jazz sax and piano accompanied our unique meals. I have Celiac Disease and there weren't many choices but oh my, how complex the flavors were. I had the smoked chicken thighs with polenta and hominy. I tried my friend's oso bucco, which melted off the bone. My husband loved the veggie burger. It was quiet tonight. The last time it was noisy and was a factor in not returning sooner. Good food, great beer, a little pricey. Met a date for dinner and drinks. Got there early (~5 pm) and found a seat no problem (on a Saturday night), but it quickly filled up. I understand they accept reservations for large parties. I had the sirloin, she had the salmon. Both were excellent. They have several of their own brews, as well as some other local brews. All are excellent. Price was a bit high (OK, we had about 5 beers each...), but not out of the realm of what I'm willing to pay for excellent food, drinks, service, and good ambiance. So holy crap guys. Finally got to try this place out. Made a reservation to sit outside. Was seated promptly upon arrival. The music was a ride bit loud but asked server if we could turn it down a smidge and they had no problem doing so! Speaking of the server, of whom I forgot the name, but the person with the tyedye mask.... Holy crap, you are the nicest server I've ever had. Other than service, the food was TO DIE FOR. Like whoa! I think the only complaint we had was that the portion of the wicked tasty potato salad was tiny. But 10/10 would recommend to anyone and visit again. Amazing! read more

Here we are in September, and I just ate the best dish I've had all year. We were on a double date, and all four of us will be back. The mussels were f**king incredible. My husband's fish was delicious. The towering tots (don't remember the name) paired with the salad were sooo good. But by far, the best element of our experience was the atmosphere. Gorgeous golden sun shining in the windows, detailed and materials-focused art on the wall, and the AMAZING electric guitar and trumpet duet. We drank & ate for an hour, then simply enjoyed each other's company for another. Such a beautiful place, and so different from what it seems to be like from the outside. Our night was great from start to finish. The ambiance is very nice, dimming lights as the night wears on, and the servers are very professional. Started the night with the fritters, think nicely flavored hashbrowns with a tangy ranch sauce. For dinner we had the quinoa saute, orecchiette, the chicken slider, and the buffalo chicken taquitos. I can honestly say that they were all delicious in there own respective manner. We finished off the night with a delicious brownie with mocha sauce and a cherry cheesecake. read more

I came here once for Sunday brunch; it was a very select menu with 5 or 6 options. It changes from time to time according to the waitress. I came with a group of 6. It didn't seem all that busy, however we waited about 45 minutes for our food. The bartender was making drinks fast enough, but there were not enough servers to bring them out, so by the time we ordered a cocktail, we felt like we should order a 2nd one ahead of time so that we could get it. Anyway, it was discovered that on Sundays they are not staffed well; they had called a waitress in to help because they don't prepare well enough (words directly quoted from our waitress). The staff worked as quickly as they could, but poor planning on whomever writes the schedule... Once my food arrived, I could tell it had been sitting for a little bit due to being soggy and lukewarm. But I was so hungry & understanding of their situation, I didn't complain. Not sure if I will return, but if I do, I would love to try during a different time of day & see what they have for lunch & dinner. read more
