Horrible storage unit. No AC - hard to find. Not cheap, dirty, bugs everywhere, the best part was that there was never any one else there so getting in and out was easily. However I imagine it's even more of a nightmare when there's other tenants moving in and out. My unit was up an L shaped staircase. The unit came dirty so I didn't bother sweeping it like they asked me and I got my deposit back so at least there's that! read more

Unit flooded and management did not even call. Number listed on the business is out of service. Is a Uhaul affiliate but national office didn't know how to get in touch with management either. If your stuff is stored here, you should check on it pronto. read more

0 stars if I could. Rental storage was an absolutely terrible experience. Hidden fees that resulted in a charge that was double of what I was supposed to pay originally. I called multiple times after I moved out so that they would stop sending me monthly invoices about how much I owe them (even though I moved out almost a year ago) and so that I can receive my deposit back if the unit was cleaned out (which I left clean, yet never received the deposit back). The unit itself was run down, full of spiderwebs & bugs, and clearly not maintained. Overall, please avoid this place if you're looking for somewhere to keep your stuff safe & clean. read more

Dealt with moisture, rodents, and basically no customer support while I used this storage center. They continued to charge me after I moved out and I still have not gotten my deposit back. Avoid this place. read more

Rented a unit on line as I am out of town. Have been charged two months rent for a unit I do not have access to. Never received any type of access. When you call the number it goes to an answering service in Arizona that can't help you. They keep charging me and I cannot get it cancelled. read more

I finally was able to reach someone at the company. They admitted there was flooding, said that they had tried to reach me (untrue), that they had no flood insurance and it was more or less my problem. I spent one whole day hauling soaked boxes of books, etc. to the dump and the unit is still half full. Today I finally had use of a truck to empty the rest of the stuff (mostly ruined furniture) and there were locks on all of the units. The people who manage this business are probably the worst business people that I have encountered in my 75 years. There is another review on Yelp regarding the flooding. CAVEAT: this review is only for the truck rental booked online with them and not their storage. OK...So, remember that old school game Mortal Kombat back in the 90's? This business is like one of those ninja characters, the original Reptile - you know, the one that has the powers of *both* Sub-zero AND Scorpion. Why's that, you ask? Well, at first I was a bit skeptical about reserving the truck online. I would've gone with our trusty ol' U-Haul place on 15-501, but I noticed that CHSS had the same 14' truck for $10 cheaper according to the online booking ($19.95/day). That's like hitting Liu Kang with Scorpion's harpoon attack. Awesome. So a bit wary, but kind of stoked that they had the cheaper price, I mapped out the distance and noticed that it would only be an extra trip mile difference between the two locations. The only reason I was mapping it out was because the 2 comparable locations both charge for mileage - $0.49/mile. OK, so no big deal. Well, figuring that I had *saved* the $10, I went ahead and purchased the a few extra things - 1) the Safemove insurance[1] for $14 which absolves you of any damages to the truck and 2) the appliance dolly for $10. At this point I was feeling pretty chipper about the whole process - scored a sweet deal on the 14' truck, it was available, and I did it all online without interacting with a single soul. See...this is where I could get all righteous standing on my soap box about rental insurance, but I figured, "Eh, what the hey. Better safe than sorry." It's worth noting that you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation fee. Since we were scrambling to do this the day before, it never came up. Next day, I drove out to the location and we walked in. The location is a bit far out of the way (you know, near the UPS on Eubanks?) and "dumpy" looking, but don't let that discourage you[2]. First impressions, it wasn't that exciting and I almost had this fear of being stuck in some redneck hell (think Deliverance). Fortunately, this sweet lady with a southern accent greeted us all friendly and such. That was nice. We walked in and she had our reservation on the wall. Took it down and confirmed everything we had ordered online. Asked us if we needed anything else to which we said no. Then brought us out to the truck and showed me all of the relevant stuff before we departed. We left prolly in 20 minutes and I couldn't have been happier with the whole process. After moving, we brought the truck back late at night. The sweet lady had shown us where to put the keys and park the truck after hours. So I followed her directions and wasn't quite sure if I would receive a call regarding the returned rental, but was prepared to call back the next day. Before I could even call back, I noticed that an email with the final invoice and mileage used was already waiting in my inbox. Awesome. That's Reptile hitting Liu Kang with Sub-zero's freeze ray. All in all, a great hassle free experience with CHSS. I like the fact that this seems to be a small privately owned business and the fact that they're cheaper than the other location for the equivalent rental. I haven't used their self-storage, but I was informed that they do have climate controlled units. Honestly, half of the credit for this 5 star review really needs to go to the uhaul.com website where we made our reservations the day before our requested rental. But the other half of the equation is just having the right staff and people organized to process the order. So, a FLAWLESS VICTORY for CHSS! I'll definitely consider them again for any in-town moves we have in the future....maybe I'll even wear my green Ninja suit next time. [1] They do offer a ridonkulous $1 million dollar policy for ~$30 which covers you for "property damage, bodily injury or lawsuits brought forwards by 3rd parties not involved with the rental" [2] Be careful driving the truck rental on Eubanks at night since the road is fairly small and not well-lit. read more

Renting a 10x10 drive up space here for $100 a month. Staff is courteous, however then came the rain. Chapel Hill area had lots of rain recently, and my storage unit flooded. Twice. First time was small puddle and some boxes got wet. (6/28/13). Second time when downtown chapel hill flooded, (6/30/13), my entire storage unit took 5-6 inches of water. There is a water line on everything. I investigated other units and just about every unit had a water line on the outside of roll up door ranging from 3-6 inches. The owners should be contacting everyone to tell them their unit flooded. I left a message there the first day I saw puddle, and they did not return my call. Now items are getting moldy with tons of moisture and no air. Now my furniture is ruined. I will be vacating this place ASAP and never renting here or recommending it. read more
