Praise the Lord for cookies and coffee & sugary treats ! You will surely find lots at this small, cozy cafe, adjoining the colossal megachurch next door. Their drinks are cleverly named after Bible stories & characters. They have varying business hours; hence causing some general confusion. They are open for at least 30 minutes after each main service. The gift shop to the left of here, (in the same building FYI) also follows a similar schedule. Prices are right! Bathrooms are clean and large. Seating; outlets; Wi-Fi; you got it! The workers here are super awesome; you guys all deserve a raise. It's like a mini Starbucks in here. Homemade cookies; sandwiches; coffees; smoothies; you name it! Do you love food? Do you love the lord? If your answers are yes and no, you are still welcome here!!! Chapel Cafe makes a pretty nice Tuna Sandwich on Squaw bread and it's only around $3.25!!! They also make other things, I tried the french dip once, it was alright, but I don't plan on getting it again. You get to pick what you want on your sandwich. I like the red onions, jalepeno, tomato, and lettuce. I also get a nice pickle on the side. Sweet! This cafe is connected to Calvary Chapel Downey. It's a ministry service I guess. I don't know. All I know is it's some good eatin' and some good prices. This is NOT a cafe!!! Now that I got that out of the way, let me explain. This was formerly a Mexican grill-type cafe with good food and great prices. That was YEARS ago and for the last few years this has been merely a coffee shop/snack bar for the church patrons, really. I stopped in there a few days ago and was saddened to find out they no longer serve food, but I did order an iced coffee for $2 that was far superior to my regular iced coffee from my local starbucks. So I am basing this review on my coffee and the incredibly nice staff and the very friendly church people and the beautiful porcelain cross I picked up (half of this place has gift shop church stuff). If you are looking for pastries, candy, coffees, smoothies or slushy drinks at a cheap price and want to browse some religious materials or read a nice book in a very quiet atmosphere, stop by here...but don't come for the food!!! read more

This is the cafe attached to the book store at Calvary Chapel in Downey. It is a great place to relax and study or read. The staff is friendly and always nearby. You really can't beat the prices. A half a sub style sandwich chips and a drink for 2.75. Yes, it is just a basic sandwich, but it tastes fresh and will tide you over. I do a lot of studying here. It is very quiet, and they don't try to rush you out of the place. read more

Great, quiet atmosphere when you need a quiet place to meet with the friend or enjoy a very friendly made coffee drink. Cafe is not designed with the same layout intentions as a Starbucks, meaning there are not outlets located generously throughout the café, however it is designed for fellowship and group gatherings, which Starbucks does not lend itself to. It is also a great location being that there is no other coffee shops around the Calvary Chapel area. And the snacks and sandwiches are definitely half the price you would pay at Starbucks. read more

Nice spot for a coffee and a snack. The cafe offers free wifi but you need to ask for the Internet access code. It's air conditioned which is a plus in this heat. It's not quiet but not too loud. This is a nice spot to read a book, study, or catch up with a friend. read more

This is not a hot foods cafe, but current sales include pastries and sandwiches and similar snacks. The workers are all lovely people, and they will make you feel welcome with warm conversation. My only complaint is that the free wifi is slow, but I do all of my non-online work and studying here for the friendly environment. There are plenty of outlets along the walls, long tables to spread out, or a more cozy seating area with cushioned seating. The coffee here? Ohmygoodness. They do not have food here just so no one gets confused like I did though it is a great little place to grab some coffee or a iced drink and enjoy some time alone with a friend. It's nice and quiet inside with plenty of tables for privacy and they even offer wifi. The girl working who made my iced latte was very nice and outgoing and didn't make me feel so bad about expecting there to be all the food pictured here in the yelp. This is a great place for a simple lunch and its quiet. Well air conditioned, nice quiet christian music and various drinks. Simple sandwiches and soup. Great for private reading and study time. I really like this place. Its quiet and not usually packed. The staff are sweet and the people who come in it as well. Its attached to a church essentially so I imagine why it is so. Though that is not necessary to know nor does it damper the experience. You'll hear individuals reading Scripture and praying sometimes. if you cannot handle that maybe go elsewhere. I'm not religious and simply go there for schoolwork and no one cares. tis open for all. Plus it's just a low key and out of the way spot to get work or studying done. Great Columbian coffee! Chill place to do devotions or study. It's generally quiet and lowkey, unlike my local Starbucks, so it's easier to concentrate. There's also a Calvary bookstore / shop that's connected to this with devotional books, bibles, etc! Plus the workers don't make you feel uncomfortable and they're chill! read more

Stopped by to get a quick snack found out they only have pre made sandwiches and soup, with of course a great selection of drinks and other pastries. They no longer have the larger menu pictured on someone else's review. The black chalk menu is the only one provided. Nice space for small children to play as well. I would give 5 stars but there is no real food here like in the pictures and there is no wifi. Otherwise nice atmosphere.

They have top chefs working here, possibly Bobby Flay. Heck, maybe even Rachel Ray. Nah I'm just kidding they have high schoolers working here. Still good eats. read more
