Wow! What a Gem to find.. I travel for work and finding an amazing local coffee shop is what I like to do. This place did not disappoint. I ordered the Honey Graham and Vanilla cinnamon both were amazing! I highly recommend trying this place! Also the service is outstanding the owners took the time to have a nice conversation. I also loved the outside setup so unique . I thought parking would be hard to find but it is not. So no reason not to try this place !

Anyhow, my family and I were driving back home after participating in a hiring event for my son (first paid job -- so proud of him!) We were all hungry and since we were in a part of town we had not been to before did a quick search. Decided on "The Neighborhood Cafe" and headed over! We were greeted by " The Los Angeles Gentlmen" motorcycle club -- couldn't have been nicer! Then we walked in and were greeted warmly by the owner and his daughter, Cheryl. We were immediately seated and made comfortable. Cheryl took our orders and could not have been nicer/friendlier. Very spacious and cute atmosphere. Ordered and after a little bit of a wait (Due to food made to order BTW!) I had the absolute best chicken and waffles ever. IT WAS A 1/2 CHICKEN seasoned to perfection -- flavorful and juicy! The waffle was clearly homemade and also flavorful. The hot honey was a sweet/spicy welcome addition. My family also REALLY enjoyed their dishes!! We live on the westside so we will not be able to get over as often as we would like :( BUT I work near downtown so I can see me grabbing take home every once and awhile! I was just telling my wife I want to go back and get that again!! :) :) :) For those of you visiting the area looking for delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere, I highly recommend "The Neighborhood Cafe". For those of you who live in the area either go or go BACK and support this gem!

It has that small, local neighborhood feel that I always appreciate. Parking can be a little tricky. There's no stopping right in front of the cafe, but I found parking down the block. They do have a back door, and I noticed quite a few customers coming in from that side, so they may have parking in the back. My first impression wasn't the best because the tables needed some attention, especially with the cafe being pretty empty when I arrived. I did a mobile order and it took about 30 minutes, but I ordered food too, so I completely understand that food orders can take a little longer. I ordered: Chicken Mole Burrito $9.50 Papas con Chorizo Burrito $6.75 Café de Olla $6.50 Mexican Mocha with cold foam $7.25 I usually stick with a Spanish latte, but I wanted to try something different. The Mexican mocha wasn't really for me, but the Café de Olla was pretty good! Now the FOOD... 10/10! The burritos were so good and had that authentic, homemade Mexican flavor. I honestly never thought I would say I had some of the best chicken mole from a coffee shop, but here we are! The mole had so much flavor, and I would absolutely go back just for the food. The staff seemed a little tired or maybe just having a long day, so the service felt a little quiet. I also overheard that they stop serving food at 11 AM, so definitely keep that in mind if you're going specifically for the food. There's something special about finding authentic Mexican food in a neighborhood coffee shop. The food was definitely the highlight for me, and I'd come back to try more from their menu!

However, I decided to give this café a try because East LA cafés are rare, and I wanted to support this particular business. I ordered a matcha, a coffee for my sister, and a few baked goods. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The matcha was poor quality, the coffee was mediocre, and the baked goods tasted like items from Ralphs or Costco. They seemed almost stale, were clearly not baked in-house, and lacked everything you'd expect from a baked item from a café. What was especially frustrating was that the matcha et al. is priced as if it were ceremonial grade, despite the quality being far below that standard. The bakery items are prepackaged products arranged to fit the café's aesthetic rather than freshly made offerings. The space itself is cute, and the woman who helped us was very kind. However, the quality of the food and drinks simply does not justify the prices. I really wanted to like this place and support a local East LA café, but the overall experience fell FAR short of expectations.

Once I found out there was going to be a Kuromi themed collab here I had sure to mark my calendar,…read moreso I've been looking forward to this! The collab started today and will last until the 31st. The store opens at 7am , but even though I got there around 8:30 and there was no line they still managed to sell out of a majority of the limited edition Kuromi themed pastries. Which was a little heart breaking, but also understandable. I ended up ordering the Kuromi Berry lemonade and some of their more popular items like the D Tia Blue (blueberry/cream cheese filled pastry) and the Japanini. Everything hit the spot as expected, but the highlight of my visit was definitely that berry lemonade! It had the perfect sweet to sour ratio and it looked very whimsical with its purple hue. I'll definitely be back to order that again and maybe I'll have better luck next time with the availability of the limited edition pastries. It wasn't as busy as it typically gets so took advantage of the opportunity and I dined in. During my visit I adored the Kuromi decor around the story. It was definitely picture worthy. They also have the cutest merch available for sale and of course I bought a sticker sheet to add to my sticker collection. The workers also wore pretty purple Kuromi hats and aprons, which is also included in their merch for sale fyi. If you're a Sanrio/Kuromi fan, do yourself a favor and RUN to your nearest Okayama Kobo cafe!
