I have tried some of their items at several Yelp events and always loved their Mango Lassi. I never go to the westside of Indy, so when traveling through recently, I decided to stop in and see what the restaurant looked like. I ordered the Chili Chicken with Naan and a Mango Lassi. The food came out quickly and was hot. It tasted soo good too! I wish I lived closer, so I could eat here more often. There was enough food for left overs. The staff was friendly and they played music videos on the TVs inside which gave an upbeat atmosphere. The one thing I didn't like was the booth tables. They are huge and don't allow for intimate conversation. I couldn't even reach the center of the table. They need to downsize those tables. read more

I played it safe, so you don't have to! When this spot was featured in a Yelp roundup of spots near 38th street I thought "a new gem!". Came in the very next day, and to my surprise it was completely empty at lunch time. They also appeared to be cleaning for a party so I had to ask if they were even open. I played it safe and went with a vegetarian option "Aloo Tarkari", one that I had seen Yelpers rave about. It wasn't in a container like I expected, and it wasn't creamy. What it was... Was delicious!! They ask if you would like rice or bread. I automatically chose bread, but in retrospect it might have been easier to eat over rice (and helped dilute the spice). They asked if I wanted 1 or 2. I didn't know if that meant 2 pieces of bread, but it turned out just 1 was a LOT. And it was the tastiest homemade naan I've ever had. Got mild, but hot damn!! I was glad they automatically gave me a cup of water! :) The interior is very nice and very spacious, and they were playing rap (good rap) when I visited, but quietly. After seeing all the other reviews, I was excited to try Chapati. It's located in a strip mall off I-65 and Lafayette, so I was hesitant at first, but the food was delicious. I got half chicken chili and half chicken tikka masala, which came in a very nice presentation with basmati rice in the middle topped with tomatoes and onion. The atmosphere was very cool, and some of the employees were even wearing shirts with the Chapati logo followed by "Five star rating, laid back seating." All of the employees were super friendly and helped explain all the items on the menu. It's the type of place where you order at the counter, then seat yourself and wait for the food to be brought out, which I like. The only downside is that immediately after you pay at the counter on an iPad, it asks you for a tip with default options of none, 15%, 20% or 25%, which I personally think is just awkward all around. The only reason I'm giving Chapati 4 stars is for the price. Entrees are around $12-15 with an extra $3.75 to choose half and half with rice and chapati bread. If you get a regular entree, it's an additional $2-3 dollars for rice and $2-3 for naan or chapati bread. Bottomline: It was $38 for two people with waters to drink and without any appetizer. It was delicious though, so if I'm in the area again I'll probably stop by. read more

I've had Chapati bookmarked forever, and finally had the chance to come today! First of all, we were greeted warmly, and asked if this was our first visit. Since it was, we were given a full explanation of the menu and how the combination plates worked, which was very helpful! It was hard to decide, because everything looked and sounded good, but I went with the goat karhai and eggplant masala with wheat chapati. Both dishes were amazing! The goat was tender and delicious; the seasonings were great, and medium level of spice was just slightly spicy, but they do have hot sauce readily available for anyone who under-orders on the spice level and wants to crank it up a bit. The eggplant was excellent; tiny eggplants that were tender and flavorful in an amazing sauce! This was beyond a basic masala; I'm not sure what all went into the sauce, but it would be amazing even on its own! The chapati was fresh and tasty. Even though this is a counter-service restaurant, they do bring the food to your table, and this is not fast food; expect a normal sit-down restaurant wait for the food, which in my mind is a good sign that food is going to be fresh, and this was definitely the case! This seems to be a family owned restaurant, and everyone we talked with was delightful and really knew the food. The atmosphere is bright and modern which is not at all what I expected given the strip mall location! I took a paper copy of the menu home so I can plan for my next visit! This is one of the best restaurants in indianapolis. Hands down the best Indian/Pakistani restaurant (they also have some middle Eastern dishes but I can't compare against ME restaurants just yet). My favorite dish is the seekh kabob. It comes with two thick kabobs and rice, along with one order of chapati and then tomato, onion, and cilantro. It smells heavenly and tastes even better. Everything is spiced very well and even a regular order has some spice to it. So, to protect my stomach and satisfy my tastebuds I get either a mango lassi or (my fav!) an Arabian smoothie which has strawberry and (I think) banana. These smoothies are the real deal with fresh fruit so you automatically feel healthy after. The decor is great. Spacious room with a variety of seating and cool art. Either Bollywood music or rap will play on the tv monitors. read more

I ate my pani puri so quickly I didnt get a proper pic of how to assemble. You crack the puff ball on the top, fill it with the chickpea mixuture, then use the puff ball cup as a vessel to pour in the liquid seasoning. This was the first time Ive tried pani puri and wow, seasoned perfectly! The liquid is like a lime water with maybe garam masala or chaat masala? I dont know but it was delicious. Way more filling then youd think too. Im too stuffed to finish the samosa! These samosas are a little different than Im used to but they are good. Its just cbunky potatoes and spices, crispy on the outside and comes with 2 typical chutneys: the red is tamarind based and sweet. The green is a little bit spicy. I was also given a large vessel.of water straight from the fridge. This was very appreciated. I didnt have to get up and refill my water, no ice, nice and cold. Sometimes its the little things. Try this place out. Id come in before and didnt know what was what and ended up leaving. Do some research on youtube, thrn come in and try it. Also, They are very clean inside. If I could give Chapati more than 5 stars I definitely would! The food is inspired by family recipes and everything I have tried is amazing and so full of flavor. The space is huge and they even have private dinning options for events/parties. I love that the space includes t.v.'s and games, it gives a feeling of being at home and makes you very comfortable. You order at the counter and are able to get your own silverware and water glasses, I found this very simple and efficient. We were given suggestions of popular dishes, which made ordering very easy. My friend and I ordered two different combos and were able to try each others, sharing is caring :) Our food was prepared fast and it was DELICIOUS! Food: 5/5 Signs that a biryani is perfectly cooked- great balance of flavor from the meat, caramelized onions, whole spice, the rice has no clumpiness and still is soft. Everytime I've gotten biryani here, I've experienced this. Their kebabs are similarly perfect and succelent. Even if the butter chicken gravy isn't what you'd expect from what you'd get in any other restaurant ( traditional north Indian version whereas they've listed it as Pakistani), it's still a high quality dish. Their chapati beats any naan or other accompaniment too in my opinion. Ambience: 4/5 There's a carrom table which you typically don't find but can play if you're waiting on take out. The seating works even if it isn't as comfortable as you'd like. There's Pandora on screens playing Bollywood and American music. Service: 5/5 This is a family owned restaurant and it shows. The food is prepared with a lot of love and takes time but it's worth it. All in all, near the top of the list for Indy's Indian/Pakistani cuisine options. read more

This was one of the best meals I've ever had! I mean, EVER! The flavors were complex, layered, and delicious. I'm a huge fan of goat, and they certainly know how to treat the meat. I had goat Karhai and Biryani (thanks to the fantastic combo option.) The biryani was rice-laden, and the Karhai was more of a sauced meat. It came with plain white rice and a yogurt sauce. I can't say enough good things about the food, atmosphere, and incredibly kind family working. I thoroughly enjoyed the music videos playing on the wall (ranging from "Stronger" by Kanye and switching to Bollywood dance-offs.) The decor was colorful and unique. Hands down, drive out here and give Chapati a try. When you walk in, the restaurant is spacious and filled with vibrant colors that's representative of the culture. I ordered the Lamb Biryani and my lady ordered the Goat Karhai and Chicken Tika-Masala (combo special). When it came out I first thought that I needed more food. I couldn't be more wrong. The amount of food was plenty. I would argue that one dish could be shared by a couple. Okay, now on to the food. Let me tell you something; the flair, flavor, spice (medium), all rolled into the rice and meat was so good that I wanted to take my shoes off, unbuckle my belt, then lay down on the community chairs. The seasoning isn't like any random fly by night Indian-Pakistani food...nah, this is exactly what it tastes like when on that side of the world. This restaurant has a fun vibe to it--incredible paintings and artwork on the walls along with a ping pong table. I ordered a combo meal: half chicken tikka masala and half buttered chicken that came with basmati rice, and chapati (it's kind of like a mix between a tortilla and pita). Hidden Gem Alert! From Seattle - this is the best Indian/Pakistani food I've had in my life. Eggplant Masaala and the Garlic Naan put me to sleep in a good way. So much flavor without too much spice. The portion seemed small, but do not be fooled. You will be filled. My girlfriend got the Chicken Tikka Masaala. Solid. I also ordered the Arab Smoothie. The food is great and the customer service was superb. The owner (who I regret not getting his name) is very personable, humble, and goes the extra mile for you. They offer the opportunity to combine an order with two different items, and I highly recommend the goat beets-- beef nihari, and if you have any room you have to try their yellow dal. Deep deep flavors and you can taste the difference. I would put their Chicken Tikka Masala up against any in town. Chapati's preparation has a richer and more complex flavor than any other. After 4 pm, you can walk through the "secret" door for Shani's fried chicken, also amazing. We were looking for some good fried chicken and went in search of Shani's Secret Chicken which is actually in Chapati. Some of the best chicken I've ever had. My husband ordered that plus naan and I order the chili chicken plus puri. For drinks he had mango lassi and I got the desi chai. Everything was well cooked in wonderful spices. I went here on a Friday @ 6:30 pm to pick up my take out order. When I walked in the door there was no one in the restaurant. Not a single dinner. I was slightly alarmed but I had read so many great reviews. When I placed my order over the phone I stated can I get enough Naan for 4 people. Dinner was for my wife and two children. I ordered Tikka Masala, Butter chicken, biryani rice, and some naan. My bill was 86 dollars! I received no receipt wasn't asked if I wanted a receipt. Hungry kids I paid and I bolted. When I got home in the back of my mind I was like something is not right. The Masala and Butter chicken the oil had separated from the curry leaving puddles of oil. Plus the chicken appeared gray and old. On top of that they give you tiny little portions of rice. The dishes were not that flavorful I was pretty disappointed. So I emailed the restaurant for clarification. Turns out they charged me for 7 orders of Naan which is why my bill was so expensive. The representative said this is standard Naan order for 4 people in their culture but did refund me 3 naan orders. My bread part of my order originally amounted to additional entree about 20 dollars for what I thought would be a side order. I felt like I had been taken advantage of. I wonder how many bills are being inflated with bread and people just don't say anything. Overall does not live up to expectations I would suggest you try another place. It had been some time since I had been to Chapati so I decided to dine for lunch. The restaurant is still open with ordering at the register and self-service for flatware and napkins. The prices have gone up like many other restaurants but I am glad to see the flavors have stayed bold. I ordered the goat karhai (half order) which came with rice. I order a side of naan brad to go with it. The goat was very tender and the portion size was enough to take some to-go. One of my favorite places to eat! Our regular 'go-to' foods are the butter chicken and beef behari with garlic naan. Love that you can pick your heat/spice level. The smoothies and falooda are delicious and add balance to your meal. The falooda is like a party in your mouth. Been going there regularly since it opened. Delicious street foods that remind you of when you visit your family in Pakistan and vendors roam the neighborhoods selling chaat, halwa puri, etc. I've also had their fried chicken a few times. Most recently I tried the new flavor spicy fried chicken sandwich. Perfectly cooked chicken and a sweet tangy flavor followed by the spice that hits you in the back of the throat. BEST. CHICKEN.
