Ordered burgers and beers. Mushroom Swiss & Potato Salad - Burger was slightly overcooked, the mushrooms were beyond overcooked and bun was not toasted. Potato Salad was bland and needed help, even though generously scatted with paprika. Cheeseburger & Fries - Same as above except it was overloaded with mayonnaise, but the fries were fine. Wanted a place close to SNHU and it's just 5-6 min away. It's a little local joint, not fancy but it was good. There were people watching the game on a Sunday and a few people in the back room playing pool with the game on. The waitstaff was nice. Not a huge menu but the food was good. We had burgers, a pastrami sandwich and hot dogs. They were all good. The rolls that the burgers were on were nice and fresh. Onions rings were crispy. And we tried the Tater Kegs appetizer. Don't let the outside appearance of this roadhouse fool you. The food here is pretty good and the prices are reasonable. There are separate entrances for the lounge and dining room. The lounge is dimly lit with a full bar, 2 TVs, pool table, video card games, internet jukebox and comfortable seating. The old school dining room has a homey feel with dark yellow walls, maritime decor, fast food style booth seating, and table seating. On Saturdays and Sundays, a breakfast buffet is offered for $5.99. The Chantilly's sign has the same logo as the Auburn Pitts sign in Auburn. Recently, I stopped here for a Friday night dinner, and sat myself in the dining room. The waitress brought out a Specials board to my table and took my drink order. I decided to try the Fried Haddock Special ($8.50-normally $10.99) with two sides: I chose French fries and linguine with tomato sauce & a side of tartar sauce. The large breaded Haddock piece came out hot and crispy, very good and not greasy. The fries were also hot and crispy, salty. The linguine was soft and hot, a good side. For dessert, I was offered a slice of Lemon Meringue Pie ($2.25) and I gave it a shot. This was one of the better tasting lemon meringue pies I've had, sweet and tangy with a doughy crust. The service was good and friendly. Chantilly's is open seven days a week 8AM to 11PM. The bar is open until 1AM every night. read more

I decided to come here based on the two reviews that were written by Amanda and Ian. I have spent a lot of time traveling over the years, and have been to a lot of roadside diners. This one is "up there" in my estimation. I had the fried haddock, fries and cucumber salad along with lemon pie. I posted a pic of my plate along with this review. The star on the plate was the haddock. It was fresh, hot and the breaded crust was thin and crisp. It was lightly seasoned with salt and spices and the whole effect was delicious. The fries were crinkle cut, so my vote would be that they are factory made, which is contrary to the previous review. However, they were properly cooked, there were no over or under done pieces, and they tasted fine. The cucumber salad was actually really great because the cucumbers were light and crisp, the seasoning was perfect and the onions were really mild and sweet. The pie was not the meringue pie from the previous review, but it was some sort of lemon cream pie that i do not think was made there. It was just OK. The decaf coffee that I had with dessert was good and the server kept my cup full. All of these are traits of a classic roadside diner. So, to sum up the ramble, if you are in Hookset, NH or driving by on the Interstate 93, go for it. It's great. The service was just fine. The Sam Adams on tap was fresh, cold, and served in a classic mug. I did get the "you're not from here, are ye?" looks, but then again I have had a lifetime of those. it was not obnoxious or hostile, just curiosity. read more

I would say don't bring your kids here, even at breakfast time. The atmosphere is still that of a bar with regulars still hanging around swearing about everything. Even our server was bitching about the cook. Smelled like smoke and a port a potty for some reason. I understand being understaffed and having longer wait times, that didn't bother me. Not a very fancy place. I ordered a Corona beer and a shot of tequila. I was doing takeout so I ordered a cheeseburger that came with a side I chose potato salad. I thought the burger was excellent and the coleslaw was very good and the price for two beers one shot of tequila and the meal was $28 and change. Our first, and last, time coming here. We were immediately turned off when we walked in the front door and was met with the overwhelming and disgusting smell of cigarettes smoke, both old and somewhat fresh. Reminded me of a bar from the 70's. Call me crazy but I'm sure the State of NH adopted a law against smoking in pubs/restaurants back in 2007. First off yes in 2020 people still smoke so if you can't stand it don't go here. Smoking is outside only. The people are nice and genuine the food is on par with the prices. There is a mix of clientele which makes it all that more interesting. The beer is cold and there is keno! So you've been warned! if this is not the type of place that sounds what you are looking for please go elsewhere. I agree with Ian as to the decor, but this place is great! Definitely gives the vibe of a local's joint, we walked in and definitely got the once over. We'd just got done seeing a movie down the road and this is one of the few places still open. Not to mention, I'd scoped out Ian's review before going (thanks!). The food was great and cheap! My boyfriend got the mexi-burger and though the chili sauce was different than what we're used to (more like a marinara than a hearty chili) it was still tasty. The roll they used for the burger was really good, too, and didn't appear to be pumped out from a factory. The fries are perfectly seasoned so of course I had to snag a few from his plate. I got the chicken tenders dinner. You get two sides and I almost went for french fries and mashed potatoes but got mashed potatoes and the cucumber salad instead. Best cucumber salad I have had to date and the chicken tenders are tender and juicy. The service was awesome though I think there were only two people working. The place was pretty dead as it was around 10:15 p.m. when we walked in. We thought about eating in the barroom until we spied the dining area in the back. We'd seen two doors outside, but we thought the door to the rear of the building wasn't a customer entrance. It actually brings your right to the dining area. A bit of a run down pub-style restaurant. While there are a few tables in the bar area, I wouldn't recommend sitting there for a meal. The server/barmaid on duty, although friendly, wasn't terribly interested in being our server. She never asked if the food was okay, refilled drinks, and aside from a toss on the table of extra napkins, the service was standard but not out of the way. My steak tip salad was not bad. The disappointment was the bleu cheese dressing which was watery, tasteless, lacking any actual bleu cheese. The steak tips were cooked med-well and I was not asked how I wanted them prepared. My dining partner was told rice wasn't available that evening but he did enjoy his fried chicken. Dive bar, but with everything you need in a dive bar. TVs, overpriced juke box, a few video poker machines, draft bud. Went in on a friday night about 8, the crowd, and it was crowded, was singing along to the John Denver song playing...lol..ok gentle crowd. Sat at the bar and ordered the fried clams, got my order in 5 minutes ! Awesome good size portion of lightly battered deep fried clams. And at $9.25 easily the best deal in the Manchester area. They said sit anywhere so we did and then we waited almost 10 minutes and they never bothered to even look if they had customers. We walked out and went down the road to another place. Where to start... This was a horrible experience. We were a party of 5, 3 adults and 2 kids. We were seated in the "dining room" at a sticky table. The one menu the waitress gave us was wet as we opened it up. The waitress I'm pretty sure was impaired, by some sort of substance. She chewed loudly every time she came to the table, not sure on what. We ordered seltzers with lime and a water to start. She brought the drinks, followed by a cocktail napkin with pieces of lime and lemon on it. She then proceeded to shove a piece of lemon on the glass of water. Order was placed, we asked for hot sauce and she instead offered jalapeños. What?? We ordered a chicken Philly grinder, a hot ham and cheese grinder, chicken marsala, cheese quesadilla, and a Mexican burger. The food arrived fairly quickly, the Philly grinder was decent. The chicken marsala was awful. The chicken appeared gray inside and the gravy, well words can't describe it other than inedible. The ham grinder arrived and it was cold. It came with a side of fries. When asked if they could toast the grinder, the waitress was truly stumped, then proceeded to take a dirty plate from the table and reach for the fries. We all said "no, stop" she then reached to grab the sandwich with her bare hands to put it on the DIRTY plate to take to the kitchen. As we sat in shock I said "no, don't " she was very confused, and again reached for the sandwich at which point I loudly said "Don't touch the food!" She then brought the entire plate back to have it heated. Honestly there is so much more, probably the worst dining experience we have had, and we are not hard to please. Humble outside. Went into the "Dining room" for the breakfast buffet which was still going. The place was empty at 12 noon!!!. I ate while two waitresses straightened the place up. The food was alright and it was all you could eat. VERY strange vibe. People sitting around outside of the place not eating or drinking. Customers from central casting? I've given this place a few tries. Seems like every time I go the buffet is cold. There aren't a lot of choices, not even toast or bagel on the buffet, though if you want an aggravated look from the waitress you can order eggs from the kitchen. The food on the menu is ok but be very careful if you have allergies. Twice I've ordered food and told my waitress to exclude the garnish because of food sensitivities and twice I've received specifically what I asked not to be on my plate even though I over communicated my sensitivities. Thank goodness I don't have allergic reactions. The owner (wife?) is terrible. My toilet bowl brush holder has a better personality than she does. I always like to give a place a few tries, catching someone on a bad day doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad place. After 4 times and speaking with the owner twice, this is a pretty bad place in my opinion. My experience with this establishment tells me that's its bad starting with the owner down. I won't go there again and obviously from this review I am doing what I can to save you from the nightmares I've experienced there. Pleasantly surprised. They have an AYCE breakfast buffet on the weekends for $6. Lots of great choices, the kielbasa was amazing. If you plan to eat here, go through the side entrance to avoid the smoke smell and awkward glances from the bar goers. They have an extensive lunch and dinner menu as well, but have not been yet. My family and I come occasionally for the Sunday breakfast buffet and find that it's pretty decent food, no issues with service at all.

Don't be put off by the rough exterior. If you are looking for a good place to eat, only minutes from I-93 in southern NH, you can't go wrong at Chantilly. Prices are reasonable. We especially enjoyed the haddock sandwich and the fried chicken. The burger eaters said their meals were a bit dry. Be sure to order the "cucumber salad" side dish -- this is a yummy Greek salad of cukes, tomatoes, and feta cheese in a nice vinegary dressing. Have been there several Times on Sunday and have had a great experience, however I have recently gone several Saturday's in a row one Saturday I had exceptional service from my waitress, but your bartender needs to go both Saturday's in a row the bartender Tracy ignored us and other customers because she was far too busy yelling profanities at another staff member. She is rude and inattentive. She should never be aloud to speak that language for all of us to here. I will return but if I have her for a server I will quickly get up and move my table to the other girls who are always smiling and are friendly.
