Ive been here many times in the past, it is a really cool irish bar that has a great hangout vibe to it. You used to be bins of peanuts and you would throw the shells on the floor, so great place for a pint and popcorn in the past but I would never eat there, but not anymore!!! There is a relatively new owner (Jessie?) that took the place over and really fixed it up and the food was AMAZING!!!! I got the fish and chips and it was some of the best fish and chips I had ever had, quite frankly I was shocked. So the last time I was in there, I got the scotched deviled eggs and the sherpherds pie and both were unreal! Awesome Irish Pub with an old-school yesteryear feel to it. Lots of hardwoods all around. We ate dinner here on evening. I had the fried pickles with Ranch dressing on the side, and a Shepherds Pie, paired with a cold pint of a locally crafted Ale: IPA (7.2% ABV) Stoneface Brewing Co., Newington, NH (ranked 3.25 stars on Untappd) Overall - a pretty decent IPA. The pickles were crispy and delicious. And the Shepherds Pie was meaty, tasty, and filling. Service was good! The one problematic issue with visiting The Wild Rover was parking. Not some place that you absolutely have to visit in Manchester but it's a solid local spot to grab a beer, watch the game, and enjoy some comforting pub food. My favorite item on their menu is the Fish and Chips! They take thick pieces of haddock, dip it in a harp lager batter, and fry it to a nice golden brown. As for the fries, Wild Rover offers thin fries or thick-cut pub fries. Pretty sure kitchen staff lets those sit in the fryer for an extra minute because they come out DARK brown and extra crispy which I love. The fries are also on the salty salty side so they are probably heaven on a plate if you're hammered. Weekend brunches are cool too. If I get there late and feel like grabbing a heavy meal, the Irish breakfast is a no-brainer. Ten dollars will get you eggs any way, rashers (Irish bacon), Irish bangers, black & white pudding, potatoes O'Brien, beans, and a biscuit. So good but crazy filling. I always have to walk off that meal. Always check for specials! In addition to daily specials, Wild Rover offers half price wings during every Boston game (for any sport). Also, bloody marys are only $3 on the weekend! These are far from fancy and lack bacon, however, they are great if you love to drink as Rover isn't shy with the vodka. My buddies and I sometimes stop at the Rover on the weekends. The food here is solid and very good. I enjoy the Kinsale Fish & Chips and Salmon. Thyey offer some good daily specials. On my last visit, I had the Baked Stuffed Trout (with crabmeat stuffing) which was excellent. The Rover has the bar room (not very big) on the right and the dining area to the left. In the bar area, the place is very packed in standing room only on Friday and Saturday nights. The bar offers several beers on tap or in bottle, mixed drinks & non-alcoholic drinks for the "DD." This is a good place to hang out, have some drinks, and people watch in close quarters. The place closes at 1 AM. read more

Good food, I had the "Dublin style" Rover burger. My only recommendation is that the corned beef be sliced thinner so the burger doesn't fall apart while eating it. The French onion soup is very good. The fried pickles are ok. The music level is not too loud to hold a conversation. The staff (Katie) was a great server even for her 4th day on the job. read more

Food is absolutely disgusting and disappointing. Don't even think it would be good drunk. I got the shepherds pie which made me gag it had this awful gravy dumped over what tasted like dog food. My BF ordered a pizza they literally gave us one of those dollar pizzas with those fake gross toppings.. it was to go and they had the audacity to cut up the pizza and put it in Styrofoam which made the pizza so so soggy. Maybe splurge on a pizza box? The service was awful as well had to wait for her to serve beers and ask "so are we thinking food" to people at the bar while I had been standing there waiting to pay for my to go order for almost 10 minutes. We rarely go out for breakfast, but when we do, it is almost always here. We've come here for years. We showed up a few minutes early and waited in the car. An employee let himself in at exactly 10. We gave them 5-10 minutes to open and then approached and tried the door. We moved away from the door so we wouldn't be obnoxious standing outside. 10 more minutes elapsed and they ignored our presence. The door sometimes sticks so I tried again, and it was still locked. If I could give zero stars for my experience today I would. Waited a half hour for soup. Then they come out with our meals (hour wait at this point), two of which (out of three) were wrong. They come out with two more meals, one of which was right out of the two left. My dad has finished his whole meal by now. My stepmom had to leave with hers because it took too long. I still have no food. The what we presume to be manager is supposedly looking into it. He comes out with our check. I still have no food. My dad asks if he's not going to feed me. The man says not unless we want to wait more since they never made our food (some apparent mixup that didn't make sense). He tells me the only thing he can make me quickly is the special which I agree to despite not wanting it. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap originally, nothing complicated. Another 15 minutes later and I finally get something to eat, not even what I originally ask for. He apologizes and claims he took care of most (not all) of our meal. When looking over the check we notice the meal I never received was taken care of. The man said he took care of the soups we had and our drinks (which he did, but we had water mind you). He still charged for the other food we waited over an hour for. We pushed to have the whole check taken care of and he acted like he did us a favor by taking care of the soup, the food we didn't receive, and our water. Needless to say I am appalled and completely unimpressed. read more

I've been here twice before at nighttime, these visits would have earned a full five stars, the bartenders and wait staff were attentive, service was excellent, my glass never went empty, and I never had to fight to get attention. Today, I visited for a late lunch, slightly after one, I'd heard lots of good things about the burgers. I quickly discovered another facet of their service. I sat at the bar, bartender was quick for the initial approach, I asked for a Guinness and a menu. The bartender needs to learn to pour a pint, the one I was served still had the cascade rolling, and by the time it took, from order to service, there's no possible way she used the correct two step method. Then I had to almost fight to get my order taken for food. I sat with the menu flat in front and pushed away, spent at least a full ten minutes trying to get the bartenders attention. She took orders and filled beers for the other end of the bar, as well as the what seemed like regulars that sat down next to me. So, the much vaunted burger, lauded by critics and media alike arrived. First off, the plate presentation proved at least one if not more people in this establishment can't follow directions or don't care about customer requests. I clearly asked for no pickle, and low and behold, there's a giant pickle spear dripping juice all over my plate, placed front and center in front of me. Then I took my first bite, the burger, while delicious, hot, slightly juicy, and flavorful, was grossly overcooked. I ordered medium rare, calling it medium well would be generous, it was close enough to call well done, ten minutes later when the bartender finally checked on me and I told her it was acceptable but overcooked she acted like she didn't care! While I may return at night for libations, I will most likely be skipping lunch and the kitchen in its entirety on future visits, should they occur! read more

They have a large beer selection and generic, uninspired pub food. There's not a lot of people here during the week, so it might be a better shot if you don't like crowds more than some of the other places like Strange Brew. Favorite starters: French Onion Soup-absolutely amazing and authentic flavor. Homemade Onion Rings-crispy and perfectly battered & fried. Wild Rover Buffalo Wings: sooo good! Favorite Entrees: Shepherd's Pie-made the "right way", enough said. Grilled Irish Bangers-authentic sausage and yummy onions caramelized in Guinness. Dublin Burger-so good with curry mayo, Guinness onions, Irish bacon, and Irish cheddar. There are daily lunch specials from 11:00am-2:30pm. Some examples from today: corned beef brisket sandwich on pretzel bread with chips ($6.99), beef tenderloin alfredo with garlic bread and salad ($9.99), Chef's New England Chowda (cup $2.99 & bowl $4.99) with lobster, scallops, and little neck clams. "The Rover" (as it's most commonly referred to) is the best Irish pub on a Polish Street in a Greek town. It's also a staple 'go to' place for my wife and I, and has been for almost a decade. It is a pub split exactly in half with one side for dining service while the other half is a bar. We usually go and share an app and enjoy a few drinks, although recently have taken advantage of their Tuesday night special - buy one entree and get the second free, and I've also done the same for lunch. Where this place is most known and enjoyed for the lively bartender and Beantown sports fans, the food cannot be overlooked. Aside from standard, but really solid pub fare (nachos, wings, burgers, etc) a few highlights are: their homemade blue cheese dressing, their french onion soup, their famous "nacho crusted" chicken sandwich, the shepherd's pie, and usually whatever they have on special. The service has also always been very friendly and attentive. Drinks are more expensive than other places in town, but I've never left concerned about that. It's worth it. read more

What I would call the definition of a dive bar is another man's treasure. My friends LOVE this bar... WHY?? Sure they hand out bowls of peanuts whose shells end up strewn across the floor and inside is darker than dark. Maybe I could get used to it? Had dinner there last night. We've actually been in there once before but didn't eat. Half the bar was closed for a private party - 19 kids running around the place, picking out music, and creating mayhem. Ironically, last time we were there someone was also having another private party (college graduation). Ordered the spicy sukiyaki wings and they came out cold. Apparently the wings are precooked and frozen & heated up /sauced before serving. They did not heat them long enough and the wings were cold in the center. Back to the kitchen to a second take - next round were crispy and better. We ordered a shepherds pie for dinner. - came out about 20 minutes later. The stew tasted like it was made from beef (not lamb). Was not browned on the top but did have some cheddar cheese that was slightly melted. It was flavorless and bland. After adding some salt and pepper it was a bit better but not great. Also, an Irish pub without soda bread (or any kind of bread with the meal)? The waitresses were busy checking their phones and yakking with each other, didn't really seemed interested in being at work. Good beer selection and a cool building. Enjoy it as a bar, prices are not bad, and atmosphere is nice. Not too "gross and rundown" like some places I have been but no "expensive swanky place." I have not always received the most friendly service from the waitresses when only getting drinks in the restaurant portion of the place. The one thing I might complain about is that when they have a live band playing it is so loud to the point that you can't really converse with friends, but I suppose most places with live music will have this problem. I have been numerous times for drinks but finally had dinner here. It was a Wednesday night and not that busy. Ordered potato skins for appetizers which were less skins and actually wedges smothered in cheese, irish bacon (aka ham), and broccoli. I loved that it had a veggie on it but others at the table did not. Also ordered a cup of French Onion Soup which was delicious although a tad salty. For dinner I had the Bishop Wrap which I give a thumb up. It had a good combo of flavors and not too much dressing in it. The only thing is I wish the menu explained that it had red onion in it (didn't mention onions at all) because I strongly dislike red onions so I was forced to pick them out which was annoying. The Husband had a buffalo tender wrap which he said was good, but you can't really screw up buffalo. They're fries are on the thicker side but nothing special. One friend had the bison burger, first time she ever had bison but thought it was good and moist. Other friend had blackened chicken mac and cheese. He approved of it for the most part but didn't like how the chicken pieces were very small therefore the dish barely had any chicken on it. Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner and will return to try some of the other items on there menu. read more

I ordered a coke with the Jameson bbq steak tips which were cooked perfectly to a sear and beautifully-tender, cooked-to-order middle with a side of perfectly-fried, well-seasoned pub fries.
