I've read that the SA here aren't too friendly, which was completely not true. Everyone was so nice, it really made my first Chanel purchase an even better experience. Store is pretty small, but they had what I was looking for. I got the classic Chanel flap in size M/L in black with silver hardware (they were completely out of the gold) and a beautiful floral designed card case with black crystals (newest season). As an avid fan, it was a MUST to stop by the Chanel flagship store. Once I stepped into the store, I immediately saw the iconic stairs that lead to Coco Chanel's apartment. I was in awe and disbelief that I was actually there! Don't leave without taking a picture on the stairs! The stock here is incredible with all sorts of colors, leathers, and hardware to choose from. I wish I remembered my SA's name but she was very sweet and knowledgeable. My amazing boyfriend let me pick out my bag for my birthday and though the bag I wanted was hard to find at other Chanel stores, the SA pulled it out in all of its glory. I left as one happy, happy customer. Once you're ready to wrap up, you are taken to a private room for payment. Remember to bring your passport to process the VAT refund. Having saved to make my purchase at Chanel during my recent trip to Paris I knew I had to purchase it at this location. The white bag and box had to return to the US with me. Of course I had dreamed about seeing the staircase to Coco Chanels apartment. Yes its crowded however I received very good service. No need to attempt to speak French here as the employees spoke English and probably plenty of other languages. I went in knowing I wanted the classic bag. I have a few other Chanel pieces but no classic. My salesperson was extremely helpful and patient. I left extremely satisfied and with a sense of accomplishment. If it is raining they give you a large white plastic bag to protect your white Chanel bag and your purchase!!!! Saved $$ by purchasing here. As soon as I walked in (no wait), I was greeted and asked if I needed help with something. I was in search for my first Chanel and there is definitely no other place to purchase your first than at their flagship store while in Paris. In less than 10 minutes, a very nice sales person named Jee Soo came to my assistance. I showed her a few pictures of purses I was interested in and she came out with what they had in stock. She was very patient and friendly. After I decided on my very first, I swung by the wallets for a quick peek. From start to the very end, the service was impeccable. The greeters, my sales associate, and the cashier were all very professional and friendly. At the end, I asked Jee Soo if we could see the stairway to Coco Chanel's apartment. She was happy to show it to me and the security even opened the glass doors for us to have our photo taken at the bottom of the steps. The store was also very beautiful and classy. Overall, a very wonderfully and pleasant experience!!! Con: Go in the store with an open mind. If you have a specific style and/or color you want, the chances are they may be sold out. The classic Chanel in black and navy was sold out, the chevron flap bag in black was also sold out, and I heard other sales people tell their guests that their inquiries were also out in all of Paris. 31 Rue Cambon. This is where Gabrielle Coco Chanel made it all originally happen and why it's such a popular shopping destination for most women. The exterior resonates old Parisian charm at its finest. The interior is white, modern, and exudes luxury. Whether you're shopping for handbags, jewelry, shoes, ready to wear, makeup, etc. it is all under one roof. They have a fantastic seating area composed of white leather in the middle where you can sip on champagne, watch the latest runway show while awaiting your purchase to be wrapped in a beautiful Chanel box. This location can be a bit crowded and you may have to wait to be assisted but the wait is so much fun when you can indulge in so much eye candy. The sales associates are helpful and don't have a bad attitude at all. One even asked if I wanted samples of any of the cosmetics or fragrances while I was there! Of course I said yes :)! Prices here aren't competitive with US prices like Vuitton, but I walked out with a bag that wasn't going to make its debut in the US for at least another 4 months. That made the wait and slightly inflated prices (at least i got a $350 VAT refund) so much more worth my while! read more

I accidentally stumbled here like I did for the other chanel store in paris. It's the flagship store and it was huge. There was no line to get into the store but I had to wait a few to be helped by a sales associate. I felt a bit rushed in this store compared to the montaigne store. I don't know if it's because it's the flagship store or not. They were very kind to me and helpful in showing me the different varieties available. It is worth it to see the flagship store in Paris though. I would come back again if I went to Paris since they appear to have a larger collection than the other stores. read more

The selection of bags and jewelry here is amazing. I found the sales girl to be very sweet and helpful. It's definitely crowded, even on a Tuesday, but still very pleasant - what's not to love about being in Chanel? I was looking for jewelry (costume) and accidentally went to the Place Vendome store, which is only fine jewelry. There, the vibe is completely different - icy, silent and full of old society ladies. I would never go back in there! Rue Cambon is fun and lively - just what you'd hope it would be. Outstanding service. The staff served Espressos, chocolates, chilled water (on a super hot day, I might add) while I waited for my wife to shop. It was truly service with a smile - not like the horror stories you hear about snooty Parisian sales staff. The store is ALWAYS crowded but they still manage to handle it efficiently and made us feel welcome with no pressure to buy. We had our 2 year old daughter with us in a stroller and she was running around, making noise, but they were never impatient or troubled by it. We loved our experience and my wife loved her purchases here. One person in particular needs to be called out for exceptional service - Aya. Would it be okay if I lived here? If only I could be Coco. This was literally my first stop during my first trip to Paris. I dragged my reluctant dad and brother to this store, with the promise that I'd be done with shopping after that day. I already had my eyes set on a blue quilted boy for myself and a jumbo black flap for my mom but was worried the stock in vacation season would be low. Chanel delivered!! They had both the bags I had wanted and I left a very happy girl. Much different than Hermes, my SA was very friendly and helpful. She offered us water/coffee/champagne immediately after speaking with us and didn't make a fuss when my 14 year old brother fell asleep in the waiting chairs (oops). The transactions went very smooth and she even gave us a tour around the place noting all the noteworthy things (aka everything) about Chanel's birthplace. read more

Chanel Rue Cambon is basically the Mecca of Haute Couture, so it was amongst my top To Do things in Paris. Sadly, there was a really bad heat wave while I was in town and temperatures soared to 104 that day. Had I taken the metro or a taxi, all would have been fine, but instead I chose to WALK from the Eiffel tower in the midday heat; a 40 minute walk with my 20 month old in tow. I made it to Chanel sweating profusely, bangs plastered to my forehead, dusty, muddy, peed on (I had a run in with a self washing toilet en route). Needless to say that I looked like a crazy bag lady when I showed up at the steps of this holiest of places! I almost feel like the security guards should be berated for letting me in! But everyone was friendly and had a ready smile (albeit concerned by my ridiculous sweating). I was offered refreshments like six times, and my Sales Associate Vanessa was very good at keeping a stoic face while she helped me try on some shoes with my grubby feet. She even gave Leon some decorative camellias to play with (all of which I promptly snagged of course!) When it came time to pay, ALL my freaking cards were declined. Talk about mortified. But the sales clerk was not fazed in the least and explained that this happens a lot because people forget to notify the credit card company that they will be traveling, or there's a spending limit, etc. In the end I got it all worked out and I walked out with some delightful purchases that I will treasure for many years to come! read more

I love Chanel and this was a must on my trip. Service was slow.. it took a while to get someone to help me. I asked 3 separate people to grab a sales person and only one seemed helpful. The first 2 seemed more involved in their conversation. It took about 20 minutes before someone came to help me. Once a sales person came, it was much easier to get things done but she didn't seem very friendly either. I ended up buying 2 pairs of earrings and she was polite but didn't go above and beyond to help. It almost felt like I was bothering her. Perhaps they have a lot of people who just browse and don't buy, but this is their original store. I would expect better service and care. Some people were very friendly, but others seemed bored and tired of their job. Also, they're system for purchasing seems to work, but they don't give you much direction as to what's going on. J'adore Chanel. Had a fabulous time talking about, trying on, looking at and buying bags. And sunglasses. This is where it all began afterall, 31 rue Cambon. Amazing and patient attention from Karina our salesperson. Bring your manners and your best attempt to start a conversation in French. It makes the whole experience all the more fabulous. Also grabbed a few bottles of toilette "Rue Cambon" and "Jersey" which both smell amazing and remind of Paris everyday when I wear them. Bring your passport, as with most retailers in Paris (with over a specific amount purchases), they do all the detaxe paperwork which helps when you have to get them stamped at the airport for the tax refund. And at 19% tax, it's worth the effort. Should my credit card ever get the refund (fingers crossed!). read more

There were 3 people ahead of me when i asked for assistance. Came to this Chanel store looking for the classic after going to two other Chanel stores and them being sold out. At first there was construction going on so I got a little confused but I eventually found it. I was offered water while my mom sat and waited. After about 2-3 minutes the SA Celine came to help me, she was very polite and pleasant. She guided me through the different perks of the m/l and the jumbo. I came in here to look at belts, at first the staff was very friendly and very helpful. I asked a women who worked here where the belts were and she directed me to the right location. I didn't see any belts in the accessory department so I walked up to the clothing. I walked back to the accessory department and they said it would only be a few minute wait. I've been sitting here waiting for 45 minutes to look at belts. They have offered to help multiple other people besides me. I've noticed whenever an Asian person comes into the store they help them first because they pay in cash. If you want to waste a good portion of your life, come here. read more

One of the larger and better Chanel stores. An associate always greets you and helps you walk in. I said I was just browsing but she still found me a couple minutes later and asked if I wanted to see anything, like a flap bag -- I mean, how can you say no? They have tons of merchandise always behind the counter and hidden away, so I followed her to try on some flap bags. The cabinet door she opened to grab the bags must have had about 30 different flap bags in it, and the same for the boy bags. All different sizes, hardware colors (and they were ONLY in black, mind you). And these were just the ones for trying on, obviously they would always bring you one from the bag at the time of purchase. I couldn't resist and ended up getting the medium classic flap bag. It started pouring/thunderstorming/hailing later, and we came back to ask for a plastic bag for the shopping bag. They couldn't get to them because they were having some sort of leakage issue in the back. The associates were incredibly stressed out and about 10-15 of them were extremely unhelpful and just standing around. Another woman, however, who must have been a manager approached us and offered us cloth bags for our shopping AND personal bags. She insisted that we stay until the rain let up, stayed and chatted with us, and even went in the back and found another umbrella for us. I also watched several high value clients come down and have cars called for them while about 4-5 people doted on them figuring out how they could help them avoid the rain (one associate came down and actually just *gave* one of these customers black flats so she didn't have to go outside in her expensive heels). Now *that* is customer service. We also saw several Chanel associates escort clients back and forth from the two Chanel stores across the streets, getting absolutely soaked while trying to keep their clients as dry as humanly possible. read more

The security person followed us around the store like we were criminals while sales associates offered champagne to other patrons who were only purchasing sunglasses. First of all, if you are a true Chanel lover, you must stop here! The place is blessed by Gabrielle herself as it sits below her apartment! I had the luxury of shopping here during fashion week so the whole place was a buzz with lots of shoppers but also dressers and models doing fittings etc. I didn't get the pleasure of a Karl spotting but I was assured he was upstairs working tirelessly to solidify the designs for that week's show. In fact, as I was taking my picture on the famed mirrored staircase, I was asked to be brief as there were models who needed to exit from their fittings, they were kind enough not to photobomb my shot. Enough about that, the boutique! When I entered, there was no line, and we were immediately greeted and asked what we were shopping for. I told them I wanted to see jewelry first. There was a bit of a wait but they offered beverages and were so very polite while we waited! After making my jewelry selections I asked to see some handbags. I couldn't make up my mind as to which one to get and thought it best to sleep on it. The place was packed but my SA treated me as though I was the only person in the building that mattered! After, I was done choosing, my items were wrapped and I was led to the office to pay. After I paid, my SA escorted me to the staircase for my photo! We decided to give Chanel another "chance." It would not be unreasonable to ask why. First, we couldn't be certain whether the atrocious behavior of the Venetians of Chanel was due more to historical enmities stemming from the Napoleonic wars than mere provincial barbarism. Second, our young daughter has a fake Chanel purse gifted us by a rather fabulous Sicilian, and we wished to compare the two. Permit me to begin with the leather. It was unclear which it resembled more, the carcass of an unfortunate flea-ridden pachyderm or the desiccated hide of a mule employed in the Bolivian salt mines who journeyed a bit too close to the rim. It is difficult the speak of the construction without becoming lachrymose. If my toddler were to bring a similar specimen to me as a product of her kindergarten class, I would temper my fatherly affirmation with a desire that she apply herself more diligently to a field in which she could demonstrate at least an acceptable level of competency. You may be curious to know if we could spot the fake. Alas, we could not. Her little Chanel bag has several merits over the genuine article, which speak more to the talent of the Laotian school of leather than the absinthe-sodden pensioner whose watermark permeates the much vaunted original. In short, we must concur with Pop Smoke whose Canarsiean savoir fare led him to dedicate his lead single to Dior rather than Chanel, Kohl's or Ahmed from Montmartre. read more

In March I decided to go to Paris .. I went to this store wearing my Chanel flap bag and carrying shopping bags from LV and Hermes. I wanted to buy some shoes and possibly a bag .. I had to wait in line and that was ok with me . When I sat down on the couch near the shoes I waited 30 minutes and finally I asked a SA for help . She said they did not have any shoes in my size .. 38 .. I said "not in the entire store ?" She rolled her eyes and walked away . A male SA came over to me to help .. he found the two pairs of shoes I wanted ..a bag and some earrings.. It took 40 minutes or so .. he was very nice ..I had a glass of champagne and took a picture on the famous stairs .. it was really fun .. I guess part of going to Paris is encountering at least one rude sales person! Okay. So...I've only posted a few reviews on Yelp, one of which was of the Chanel boutique at the Dallas Highland Park location. Chanel at 19 Rue Cambon, which is the location of the brand's original boutique. Bottom line: Show up early, on a weekday if possible, and absolutely be prepared to deal with a completely arbitrary, quite blatantly unfair/dishonest, absolutely infuriating "queuing" policy when waiting to be helped by a boutique sales associate. When you walk in--if the store is at all busy, hence my recommendation to go early--you will immediately be told that there is a "line" of customers ahead of you waiting to be helped. Of course, no problem. May I add my name to a list? No, there is no list, we will come and find you when it is your turn. Maybe twenty minutes. Um, okay. Who am I to argue with store policy? I politely take a seat in the store's show area, which is what I wanted to purchase that day. I'm happy to wait, people-watch, and gaze at all of the lovely shoes happily waiting to be tried on. Before I continue--and it feels almost stupid to mention something that shouldn't matter whatsoever--I should add that I made a point to visit the boutique looking my best, dressed in Chanel, etc. I'm no slouch, and am always VERY polite to high-end sales associates; I know that they have to deal with difficult customers on a regular basis. ANYWAY, I'm mentally taking note of other clients being helped to give myself an idea of how much longer I'll have to wait, and nearly an hour later, politely asked an SA when I might be helped. She assured me immediately "You are next on the list." Okay. As a second hour goes by, I watched, agape, as two other waiting customers asked the same question, and were given the exact same answer. And by far worst of all: at least four other individuals--I am not exaggerating--swept into the store, began grabbing shoes off of shelves and demanding the sizes they needed from the nearest SA. These people did not request a specific SA, which might indicate their being a VIP client. They were merely demanding, entitled, and obviously couldn't care less about the "order" of things. And amazingly...they were all assigned an associate within minutes. Politely, but clearly unhappy, I approached the same SA and asked again when I might be seen, pointing out that a number of people had just walked in and been seen immediately. She was apologetic and again assured me that I was next on the list. I sat back down. I was offered a beverage, requested an espresso, and was given a bottle of water. Twenty minutes later, I stopped a passing sales associate and repeated my question, and again, asserted that I had been waiting "in queue" nearly two hours for assistance, and had watched as quite a few other customers had been helped immediately after coming in and loudly grabbing/demanding products. Amazingly: she simply replied, "Yes." And again, let me emphasize--these people were not special or VIP with special privileges; they were simply rude. The moment I asked, which was the first and ONLY time I displayed noticeable anger, it was astonishingly suddenly my turn! An associate appeared within seconds! When I asked to try (and eventually purchase) four different pairs, I was suddenly attended to by a SECOND associate! Would I like another beverage? At this point, I was pretty seriously annoyed, so I simply replied, I had asked for a coffee, was given a bottle of water, and now I would like champagne--adding that I would need it to "relieve" the frustration of having been obviously passed over for hours, all because I had sat quietly and cooperatively as asked. A huge pour immediately appeared. And then a second, as I pretty much shotgunned the first glass to avoid killing someone. I wish I could say that this experience had been a one-off, but it unfortunately repeated itself with varying degrees of insanity at the multiple other locations I patronized, as well as at several other high-end boutiques. I should've been more suspicious when told I couldn't even give my name in order to wait, and that I would be "recognized;" sure. Recognized. At a boutique with hundreds upon hundreds of customers circulating in and out throughout the day. Maybe I feel so strongly because of a cultural bias towards fairness, waiting for one's turn, etc. (again, obviously I understand there are occasional VIP clients who work only with a specific SA, and are seen immediately). But I was shocked. Honestly felt a little dirty as I left $4000 poorer, having bought four pairs of shoes. I suppose as long as clients continue to spend, as I did despite my frustration, these brands can condone any type of client service they like. But man...I don't think I'll be back to a Chanel boutique anywhere in Paris, which is both ironic and a shame, considering the considering the significant VAT savings on retail prices. read more

There is a line to get into the store (!!!!!) but if you're smart (or clueless) like me, you'll just walk in from the OTHER door (that leads you to the clothes instead of the bags) and walk through the store to the bags. BOOM. No waiting in line. This place is PACKED so definitely be ready to wait for someone to help you as they only assign one rep to every customer at a time. Also, if you're from out of states, be sure to have them help you set up your VAT refund (at least provide you with the proper forms needed) before you go. read more
