I stopped at the counter for Officine Universelle in Bon Marché while we were visiting France. I bought 2 perfumes, two perfumed lotions, and a lip gloss, which I had to pick up later because they monogrammed the lip gloss case (which is optional, but included in the price, if I remember correctly). My understanding is that the stand-alone store is better for the personalized VIP experience, but it was our last day in France, and we were in a hurry, so the one in Bon Marché was more convenient. They have all their perfumes out to sniff, and they have lots of lovely scents that are a little different than the mass-produced perfumes of Chanel or other large companies. My one complaint is that when ewe came mack to pick up the perfumes, I took the bag and left without checking the order, put it in my suitcase, and came hand to the U.S. When I opened my stuff at home, one of the lotions had the correct scent name on the box, but a different scent inside the box. I sent an email to the company, which responded quickly, sent the correct lotion, allowed me to keep the wrong lotion that was in my box, and offered to send anything else I might want with it for free shipping, and were so kind. I think customer service is one of the things they are known for, and the customer service was great! FYI: I wrote to them in French, and my response was also in French, which was fine; I speak French, though poorly. I didn't understand some of the message. Though I looked up any words I didn't know, they didn't make sense together, so I enlisted the help of ChaptGPT, who translated and said it was a rather ornate, old fashioned way of phrasing things. I'm sure this was part of their image as an old-fashioned apothecary. Est-ce que je dois écrire en englais, ou français? Je ferais le deux! Je suis allé à Officine Universelle à Bon Marché, parce que c'était mon dernier jour en France, et j'étais pressé. About 20-30 mins wait and then you get to step in into a world of amazing oil based perfumes, mirrors, hair combs, mirrors, lip balms et al. You can get your name engraved as well in a calligraphic font of your choice ( they have a card with options). You do get a set of cards to smell and choose your perfume, hand cream etc from and as well get to keep those cards for later. I would definitely be ordering the perfumes online and the cards definitely would come in handy. A cafe in there does help you with your coffee cravings and any sweet tooth urges that need to be addressed. read more

This was a lovely experience. Unfortunately, we didn't make it into this location. We arrived around 3pm on a Friday, and waited in line for almost 45 minutes without being able to go in yet. We made the mistake of planning someone else after this, so we had to leave the line and accept the loss of wasted time. Inside the store looks beautiful and I would have loved to see it. The next day, we decided to give up on the cool boutique idea and go to the location inside of Le Bon Marché (department store), which opened a little earlier. Although the ~experience~ wasn't quite the same, the person working was very kind and helpful and there was no wait when we arrived at 10:30am on a Saturday. They do all of the same engraving and customizing, and it was don't in about 45min-1 hour. It was worth going. This is such a great "souvenir" that makes anyone feel special and luxurious. It was also great for gifts. Worth the price to me for my loved ones to have something so special. The lip balms are adorable, too. I did also smell some perfumes and loved a couple of them, but didn't end up buying. read more

Such a wonderful experience! Strolling through the Marais we saw this outpost of Buly's and had to go in. The inside of the store is gorgeous with dark wood display cabinets. It has an Old World feel. The salesperson treated us so well. He was very knowledgeable about the products. We had a pleasant conversation with him about Paris. A lot of products were sold out as it was late in the day on a Saturday. We did buy the large brush! It's a real luxury item. The bristles glide through my hair. The brush or combs are engraved with your name. While we waited for the engraving,the salesperson wrote our names in calligraphy on a sticker. He also gave us samples . Daunted by the line that literally wraps around the corner, I trusted the many friends and family who insisted that visiting Officine Universelle Buly is worth the wait. While I arrived at the shop only about 5 minutes after it opened, I still had to wait in line for about an hour. To pass the time, I was handed a catalogue with elaborate descriptions of the shop's products. Once I entered the store, I was greeted by an attendant, who was dedicated to my needs throughout the visit and guided me through the shop. We started with the combs and brushes, followed by chapsticks, and, finally, perfumes. I was able to hold (and smell) each of the products, and most of the products were customizable. The attendants were all incredibly knowledgable about the products, and despite all the attention, I never felt rushed or pressured to buy anything. I ultimately selected a comb for myself and had it engraved with my name (it only took about 20 minutes). While I waited, I smelled the perfumes and took in the grandeur of the shop that resembled a royal apothecary. I left the store convinced that it was worth the wait - it's both a tactile and luxurious shopping experience, surrounded by rich tradition and history. Ok TikTok you did your thing! In a real way. The lines for Officine Universelle Buly are seriously outrageous. I told my Mom I wanted to stop in for a personalized lip balm and comb but had no idea we'd arrive to a 90 minute wait just to walk into the store. Absolutely wild! What's even more wild, is little miss impatient (hi! It's me!) stood there because I wasn't leaving France without my engraved curly hair comb and my monogramed lip balm ;) I also picked up a special little gift for a friend and my Mom purchased a couple of balms for my sister and my brothers girlfriend. The experience was lovely once in, and moves swiftly after decisions are made. They didn't have the lighter curly hair comb I originally wanted so I opted for tortoise which the associate said she prefers over the other because the gold engraving stands out more. You have two choices for lip balm cases, ivory or black and a plethora of options for leather exterior where the monogramming is placed and pouches. All of our items turned out well. I'd recommend if you can stand the wait time. The gifts are very sweet and I can't stand a "souvenir", that just screams tacky! Beautiful store, gorgeous product line. read more

We traveled over an hour to get here and this rude, disgruntled woman emerged, picked a random person out of a line of no more than 6 including us and said that she would be the last person and that they close at 6 and we needed to come back tomorrow and this was at 5:30. I tried to reason with her but she had the look of "I hate my job and nothing you say will make me change my mind" so I just said "whatever" and we left. This is all hype, no class, no sense of customer service, selling high price every day items and treating customers like that. You know what "buly", add an extra L because thats what you are, a bully, a nose up in the air bunch of snobs with no sense of customer service, displaying your lack of class by acting that way. I came in to spend my money and I'm so glad thay I didn't waste a penny at your store and I won't be coming back tomorrow or ever, stay away from this place, they are rude and dis-respectful, they're doing you a favor by allowing you to spend your money there, TRUST ME!! read more

Yes, I was influenced by tiktok. I thought this was a cute souvenir to get from Paris. It's bougie af, but it's Paris.... So you know, when in Rome. So we get to the counter and wait because there are customers being helped. I didn't see the lip balm containers out anywhere. There was a display of combs, tooth brushes and a lot of fragrances. When the customers ahead of us left, the girl working was nice and welcomed us. I told her I was looking for the lip balms and she pulled out the palette. I chose the color of the container and what I wanted the container to say and she had me write my name down. She told us to come back in 30 mins and also informed us that if we spent over 100 euro, we would qualify for tax free. You don't have to tell me twice. When we came back, I chose a little soft slip bag to put my lip balm in and they packaged it up so nicely. It was beautiful and for $40, I didn't think it was too expensive. Since its purchase and relaunch by LVMH, Buly has become a hip commodity, as the line outside the original Bonaparte boutique indicated. The problem was, the Rue Bonaparte portion was just the beginning (or rather, the end) of the line, which continued around the corner and stretched the full length of the block along Quai Malaquais. In Paris, we saw many long lines of people, but none for stores with the exception of Buly -- not at the Dior or Chanel flagships, nor at Instagram darling Deyrolle. There are better things to do in Paris than stand in line to buy combs and lotion. Buly and its velvet rope silliness is a hard pass. read more

This shop came highly recommended to me by our tour guide, the real Emily in Paris, so I was curious to see what the fuss was about. The shop itself is absolutely beautiful. Full of neat things to look at, there's something on every shelf that catches your eye. The shop people working the day I visited were extremely nice and friendly. They were also patient with me as I tried to communicate what I wanted in French. Embossing and engraving takes 5 minutes, and engraving adds 5€ to your bill. There's a calligrapher on hand that can add some flair to your gift's gift tag. Beautiful products and I will definitely be a repeat customer! read more

One of the most beautiful stores I visited in Paris -you can see why they have been around since 1803! Just walking in felt like an oasis from the chaos of the city - classical music complimented and look & feel of the space. I almost felt like I had entered a time machine and had stepped back in time. Definitely had the feel of an old school parfumerie. The employees were chic, warm & welcoming. I loved all the details, thought & care that went into the packaging. A lot of the purchases are customizable and can be monogrammed on site. An on-site calligrapher wrote the most beautiful name card for mom, included with purchase. Hello! My friends and I came here last weekend and we were very excited to make some purchases-- both for ourselves and for family back home. We got there at 11am on the dot, which is what the sign outside the door said were the correct hours of operation. When we got there, a worker walked up and told us it opened at 12, totally fine and not an issue. We decided to go do the rest of our shopping and come back. We come back at 5:20, and there is a line out the door. There were two people in front of us. A worker with terrible hair and big ugly glasses comes outside and informed us that they close at 5:45 and we will likely not get into the store. We were very confused and told her about how we were here first thing in the morning and were very excited to get our loved ones little goodies, and said we would wait in line. Keep in mind, only two people ahead of us and 25 minutes until "close". The very kind security guard also told us to stay in line. 20 minutes pass by, and the two in front of us have been let in and MANY people have come out. During this time, Ms. Bad Hair comes out multiple times and is so RUDE to us, at one point aggressively gesturing to my friend that we need to be in a single file line... on the street..... Even the security guard was sick and tired of her nonsense at this point and rolled his eyes at her and apologized to us. After what was her very obviously running out the clock, she comes out at 5:47pm and tells us we can go inside the store to look and cannot buy anything. We go inside and tell the other ladies it's our last day in Paris, we were really looking forward to this/have been in line, and if they can accommodate us in anyway. They were also rude! The business missed out on a lot of money. Very bad service from everyone but the security guard-- he needs a raise just for his kindness. A 0/10 experience from a place that was one of the main things we had on our itinerary, Officine Universelle Buly is a renowned Parisian staple that needs to hire much better people or else they run the risk of ruining their reputation. read more

This a a REAL old-school Parisian "pharmacie". The brand started (I think) in the early 1800's and it died out for a bit but in recent years the name has been revived and they could not have done a better job. Walk in and this is really like an old apothecary. With wooden cabinets, marble counter tops, bottles and vials of perfumes, natural oils and powders, Maison Buly published a "New Atlas of Beauty" where it details the medicinal and curative properties of things like Neem leaves from India or Argan oil or Betontite clay. And then it's up to you to decide what you need because, let's face it, everyone's skin is as individual as you are. And you can buy the powders and oils that you need to make your masks here, along with their combs, brushes, toothpastes and flavored dental floss. Their perfumes are very popular and many of them when I came were sold out particularly the Rose de Damas and the Mexican Heliotrope. I bought some of their apple and orange toothpastes and a few vials of the natural oils and they have been very useful and fun to use. The service is very attentive and friendly. While it's not cheap, if something works, stick to it. read more

I've shopped at this store in years past. After receiving some high-profile press, I think it's having a "moment", which it deserves! The shop is LOVELY. The staff is so helpful and every purchase is made special whether you are spending 22 euros or 222 euros. If bringing many of their products home to California were easier, I'd bring home the toothpaste, the nail polish, the mouthwash and some candles. Men love this shop! read more
