They create the most delicious tasting vegetarian tacos with homemade tortillas, creative ideas, and healthy ingredients. I have never had tacos that taste so good and original/unique. My favorite taco is the creamy kale and potato. I can't even describe what it tastes like but all I can say is that this taco is must get if you come here. I also love their sides of black beans and rice. The black beans are so creamy and top them with crema and jalapeños. The green rice made with pesto, feta, and pumpkin seeds which elevates the rice so much. I love the little crunch of the pumpkin seed. Alexis K has been to Chaia twice related for work and I have always been envious that she got to try out this place. After her first experience, she had nothing but good things to say about this place. So when we were in Georgetown I made it a must to try out this place. Alexis and I had dinner reservations at 8 so we ended up splitting 3 tacos as a snack. We opted for her favorites- butternut, kale & potato, and rainbow carrot. Even though these tacos were vegetarian they were so good. The sauces that accompany each taco makes up for the lack of meat. The ingredients were all very fresh and if I had to pick a favorite it would be really tough. All of them have their unique taste profile... if I really had to pick one it would be the kale and potato as I really enjoy potatoes and this one had the most citrus flavors. The portion size of the tacos is standard so I would recommend 3 tacos for each person. Overall I really like this place. It was my first time having a vegetarian taco and I enjoyed it more then I thought I would. If I am ever back in Georgetown I will definitely stop by to taste their other offerings. read more

As far as completely vegetarian taco places go, this is probably up there. I was going to give 3 stars as I wouldn't come back as I can't imagine picking this place over a steak taco, but my vegetarian friend that was with me convinced me that the tacos were the best vegetarian tacos she'd had. If you like Mexican food, want tacos and are vegetarian, this is the spot for you. Even if you're a meat-lover, this place is great for a change for a healthy Mexican meal. The tacos are a little bit on the expensive side since none of them have meat, so they are not quite as filling as regular tacos, but they are still delicious and a nice change of pace from your typical chicken or carnitas tacos. They have 5 different flavors of tacos. When I went, they had a mushroom, zucchini, charred green bean, kale & potato, and a collard greens one. They also have a few sides including a green rice (brown rice with cilantro, feta, and pepitas), black beans, salad, and gazpacho. I got the mushroom, kale & potato, and zucchini tacos - they are 3 for $12, or $4 each (you don't get a discount if you buy it in a trio). The tortillas are nice and homemade, and the vegetables are simple but delicious and well-seasoned, and there's some kind of sauce and cheese on top (most are them are topped with queso fresco or feta). My favorite was the mushroom, then followed by the charred green beans (my husband ordered this), followed by the potato + kale. The zucchini was my least favorite out of the 3, only because the texture of the zucchini was a bit over-cooked and too soft. The sides were also really delicious - I really enjoyed the green rice, and look forward to trying the black beans next time. The place is pretty casual and small - you'll be done with your meal in 30 min or so. You order at the counter, sit down and they will call your name to get the food. This is a great spot for a quick meal, a snack, a date, etc. It's not super expensive, and it's a great place to get a meal and then get a dessert down the street somewhere since the tacos are not huge and overly-filling. Amazing. Their tacos are on a whole other flavor threshold. Meat lovers - as a dedicated meat person myself, you're not even going to miss it. The kale potato is amazing - a mix of smoky, starchy, creamy, acidic, and meaty flavor is to die for. This was probably my favorite. They debuted a new flavor, asparagus goat cheese, which a bright red pepper sauce that paired with the distinct grassiness of both the asparagus and goat cheese. Very different from kale potato! Last was smoked collard greens- I thought it was a little salty and more "flat noted" than the others. My friend got the mushroom, which was reminiscent of mushroom ravioli. Not bad but not as good as the kale potato. Last but not least, I think we both liked the rainbow carrot the least - we didn't dislike it, but the combo was interesting - a hint of sweet, bitter, and acidic all at once. It just didn't hold a candle to the kale potato. In summary, get the kale potato. The aesthetics of this place is equivalent to a cool hipster millennial home. Lots of succulents and air plants everywhere, and a very clean ambience (think bright windows, wood, plants, and whut paint). Tacos are $4 each or 3 for $12. They also have juice. Of the tacos, the mushroom was probably my favorite, but the black beans, with a deep umami flavor, was the stand-out. The biggest knock against the tacos is that they were messy to eat. And they weren't all as balanced as my ideal tacos, lacking sufficiently strong contrasting flavors and textures. The space is casual but pleasant. Although the restaurant could have gone industrial-chic like every other new fast-casual joint, Chaia is housed in a renovated historic brick house with lots of natural light and light wood. Absolutely delicious and incredibly vegan/vegetarian friendly. I came here with a friend and ordered two tacos - the creamy kale + potato and the charred greens. My friend and I both agreed that the kale and potato taco was delicious. The Charred Greens taco was alright but it was a little more sour than I was expecting. Two tacos was enough for a light lunch. But if you've worked up an appetite, I'd recommend ordering three. The interior of Chaia is very cute for the ~ instagram aesthetic ~ Keep in mind, it is pretty small though. My friend and I weren't able to find seats on the first level so we had to walk up to the second level and managed to snag the last two seats. Overall, I loved this place. There most amazing part of the tacos were how fresh the corn tortillas were. They were pressed and warmed to order. They were also pretty thick. So, they didn't break when you ate them. Don't be fooled that there are only vegetarian options here. I usually like chicken or meat in my tacos, but this place does vegetarian tacos right! Ordered the taco trio (3 for $11). I chose the mushroom, creamy kale & potato, and roasted beet. All 3 was full of flavor and delicious! They were presented well and included quite a few ingredients. The sauces, veggies, and cheeses all seemed fresh and complimented each other well. Really liked the corn tortilla. I'm use to the regular flour tortilla, but the corn tortilla was good for a change. I do find the pricing slightly odd. It's Georgetown, so I know that there aren't going to be any great deals around here, but they could have some more combos to sweeten the deal a little. An individual taco is $3.75. By doing the taco trio, you are only saving $0.25. I would expect the difference to be slightly more. In addition, the tacos aren't really big, so how about 4 tacos for $14, or 5 for $16. Adjust the pricing how you like, but you get gist. You could do a combo of the taco trio and one of their hipster beverages for $14. Just a thought. There isn't much seating here, so if you come during prime lunch or dinner hours, be prepared to wait around for a little bit. They do have an upstairs with some more seating, but it is limited. I could see coming here during the summer, getting the tacos to go, and eating them by the waterfront. read more

I would definitely have it again though. We also tried the corn and caulflower taco, also very good. The kale ad potato tacos and the mushroom tacos have been best sellers for a long time. I found the spice level a bit challenging this time around but also kept thinking about how good the food was, including the mushroom tacos that my husband loves. I also had a green tea drink that was very refreshing. Chaia Georgetown was busy, all the seats taken when we arrived on Saturday. We did get a table, though, and definitely enjoyed the vegetarian tacos. The ingredients are fresh and organic, not to mention creative. The staff is Wonderfull. I appreciated that one of the staff members helped at the register when many of us couldn't figure out how to get special orders into the computers. I've always loved the food here, but had a horrendous service experience today (Saturday 12/9, 1:30 pm). The woman working at the end of the taco line (glasses, short hair) was having a bad day and took it out on me by being incredibly rude. When she called my name, I went to get my order and was presented with half of it. I asked about the other half, and she used the most irritated tone, rolled her eyes, and said, "IT'S COMING." Um, okay...how was I supposed to know, and why call my name if only half my order is ready??? She also got one of my tacos wrong and couldn't care less that they were out of spoons for soup (which no one had told me when I ordered the soup). Honestly, the wrong taco and soup issue would've been fine if she hadn't been SO rude and belittling. I hope management has a chat with her, because it's really no way to treat people. OK, I think Taco Bell makes tastier tacos than this place does. We were looking for a good meal during our hour break from a 24-hour movie marathon a couple weeks back and we stopped by this place because it was nearby and tacos sounded good. Everyone ordered something different and what I tasted across several tacos I've tried was just generally terrible. It actually upset my stomach so much I had to run to the bathroom and missed part of a movie. So, I ended up just ordering more food from the concessions for me and wife because she did not like it at all as well. I'm fine with vegetarian food, but I can't say that it'll be palatable enough here. Also, it was priced out of their minds, I thought, but I think this is probably just a reflection of me being from out of state. But I'm also from California and would not pay that much for this on an ordinary occasion. Also, the place had no seating for anyone that was in line when I came in. That's a huge con for me. Their black beans are seasoned so well, and I could eat five servings of them right now. Currently you get a trio of tacos for $12, and the tacos are not that big so if you're feeling really hungry I definitely recommend getting a side of their green rice or black beans. Delish. It is a cute spot with seating on the lower and upper levels. It tends to get crowded during lunch and dinner times, so plan accordingly to avoid a long wait. Their menu is rather small, and I like that because it is a straightforward kind of place that focuses on doing a few things really well. If you are someone who likes big portions, this isn't that kind of place but you should still try it out! The only downside is the size of the tacos in comparison with the cost they charge you, and that's why I took off a star in my review. I'm still a little salty over the fact they are making killer margins from their customers, but every business needs to make money so I don't blame them. Chaia was recommended to us by a trusted friend in the Georgetown area. We asked for somewhere that was vegan friendly and Chaia totally delivered. Chaia is tucked down an alley off of Wisconsin Ave. near the Georgetown waterfront. We tried one of each taco with some sides to split. I loved the roasted beet taco and the black beans. The soft corn tacos themselves really stood out to me as a differentiator with these selections. The housemade ingredients sure helped too. I've been to this Chaia Tacos location in Georgetown twice now. I like how it's quick & casual, but also serves alcohol. The location is convenient for shopping in Georgetown or walking along the waterfront, and it's definitely one of the cheaper options in the area. The tacos are pretty yummy. My favorites are: the Creamy Potato & Kale and the Roasted Butternut Squash. I also ordered a Braised Mushroom taco but it came out cold, which I was disappointed with. The second time I came here, I tried the Cauliflower Soup which was delicious. The sangria is okay, but the serving not super generous. I wish this location served the draft cocktails, like the Chinatown location. Maybe it's something to do with a liquor license? Overall, it's a yummy meal for vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. I had read a Sietsema review raving about this women-owned establishment and I knew I had to try it! Got the taco trio and then two extras. Finished it off with the chocolate tortita. For starters, the interior is designed with clean and stylish minimalist decor, plants on shelves and good natural light. A great place to sit and stay a while. The staff was helpful and courteous. Nice juice and kombucha selection. The food we ordered was wonderful. Had the braised mushroom taco, creamy kale and potato, chipotle sweet potato and sautéed green cabbage. My favorite was the kale and potato, the crema stole the show. Mushroom was my least favorite, the flavors just didn't seem as cohesive as the others. The sweet potato was a little extra spicy which I enjoyed but the friend who I went with was a bit turned off by the heat. My only complaint is that my taco shell for the kale and potato broke when I was taking my second bite despite my attempt to be gentle with the little corn blankets. They're tasty but not too sturdy I guess. Didn't expect much of the tortita but it was very rich and flavorful, especially for being plant based! Of the three tacos I tried, the braised mushroom was still my favorite - flavorful with a lot going on. The chipotle sweet potato was also really flavorful and nice. On the other hand, I was disappointed by the sautéed cabbage taco - it didn't have much flavor and texture differences.
