I really underestimated this place. Mainly because I never heard anyone in my immediate circle talk about Green Almond Pantry. I found my way here because of Ramen by UZU. They are located in the same place and Green Almond is located in the back. I had the Focaccia Bread which tasted very fragrant and fresh. No protein, but it's super cheap and tastes amazing. They make everything from scratch. If you want meat then go for the Lamb Kofta. I did not expect these little morsels of grilled meat balls to be so JUICY. I was in shock. It also did not have any gamy after-taste. I was like, "Wow do not underestimate this place!" Give this place a go. Try what I tried. I can guarantee you will enjoy it! :) read more

I was a little disappointed by their prices as I could find similar items for cheaper at other DC eateries. You order your food then find indoor seating (which wasn't plenty). After waiting 15 minutes, my friend and I got our food. Although I was excited by the idea of eating a chicken salad sandwich, I would not order again for $15. My friend and I came here on a custom Georgetown exploration day where we went to many different places. I wanted to check out green almond pantry because their dessert, the almond flourless chocolate cake, was on the best dessert list. The place is in an area with a couple other restaurants. They have an outside place to sit along with some inside benches. When we came, it was around lunch time. We ordered and the service was a bit slow. It turned out they forgot about our order and we had to remind them. I did also get the zucchini dill soup and chicken and tomato rice. The latter was wonderful. The person taking our order heated the bread before giving it to us and provided utensils and extra napkins (that we ended up needing). This is in a shared space and had lots of counter space. A true gem with made-from-scratch food and the loveliest owner. I frequent Green Almond Pantry for their killer focaccia and their life-changing, enormous breakfast sandwich--two fried eggs, melty gouda, and flavorful, nutty pesto between a hulking piece of fresh focaccia. I'm also a big fan of the non-traditional chicken salad "sandwich," served open-faced and chock-full of fresh herbs, with olive oil in place of mayo, all on a thick slice of rosemary focaccia. They also serve Grace Street Coffee (delish!) and have an amazing selection of baked goods. Seating is limited, but in warmer months, the back patio is a lovely spot to enjoy your meal. Absolutely delightful spot for a casual brunch / lunch with a ton of delicious baked goods and prepared grab-and-go items! Cagla and Rachel are the sweetest people I've ever met, and Cagla's cooking skills are absolutely out of this world -- fully worthy of the many James Beard nominations she's received over the years! For a quick but hearty brunch, I love their egg and cheese sandwich; it's genuinely one of the largest sandwiches I've ever seen, and includes two fried eggs, generous helping of melted cheese, and perfectly nutty and herby pesto sandwiched between two giant slices of fluffy, super flavorful focaccia. If you want something a little simpler, I'm obsessed with all of her tarts -- the butternut squash and goat cheese one is my favorite, but the spring / summer seasonal tart with leeks and walnuts is also incredible. I don't know how she manages to create such a crispy crust with a tender, super savory and slightly sweet interior, but each one of these tarts is just perfection. They also offer catering for parties and corporate events, and I highly recommend. We got their food for a work holiday party last year, and we got rave reviews from all the guests. That was where I first fell in love with the butternut squash tart, but the oyster mushroom hummus was also a huge hit. Even the simpler items, like the kale salad or red lentil balls, are executed perfectly and are a huge crowd pleaser. The only note is that Green Almond Pantry is part of the Grace Street Collective, so you can't make reservations and it can be a little tough to find seating among all the other restaurants and eateries. It's usually a little easier to find a spot if you come during an off hour -- either right when they open at 11 AM or a little later in the afternoon after the lunch rush. Even if you can't find a spot, their food is delicious to go and it's quite close to the Georgetown Waterfront, so you can always enjoy your meal outside if it's nice out. read more

Adorable and tasty small bakery nestled in a cute area by the canal. Tried the marinara focaccia and the beef and potato bourek, both of which were phenomenal! The beef and potato bourek was a special favorite--incredibly flavorful beef and a light, flaky pastry. There's not a ton of seating but didn't have trouble finding a spot. Located on Grace street, tucked away behind the main drag, is the most amazing restaurant experience I've had in a while. Let's start with the food. The menu at Green Almond is extensive, but let's just say, comfort foods. Sandwiches, salads, soups and the best focaccia in DC. Like, don't wear any of your nice clothes when you eat here, because you're going to get oil on everything! Our order: We shared a rosemary and garlic and a marinara focaccia as well as an egg and cheese (Gouda), served on a rosemary focaccia, with a drizzle of pesto. Seven napkins later, we were making plans to come back for more. The bread is perfectly crispy outside, soft in the middle. I wouldn't call this light. There's light stuff on the menu, but if you're eating in, plan on walking this one off. What made this extra special? We had an out-of-town guest with us. She ordered a Cesar salad & their Cesar is traditional, as in anchovies. No big deal and totally our fault for not reading the menu. One of the wonderful employees came out to check in with us. We said everything was great, but the employee noticed that the salad was not touched and asked if there was anything she could re-make, noticing our guest playing with her food. In fact she insisted on bringing us another salad, because she assumed that we mistakenly ordered the wrong thing. We talked for a couple of minutes and had a fun little parent to parent kinda chat. The usual stuff. It was great to feel a connection to the source. The food is great, but the experience was greater. Overall, food was a 5/5 and the experience and atmosphere is worth looking for a parking space in Georgetown on a Sunday. So delicious! The best lunch I've had in Georgetown, bar none. Had the eggplant sandwich and a piece of the chocolate cake that I'd read about. Both were delicious. Service is a little bit slow, but worth the wait. The restaurant is towards the back of a little building with a few other restaurants in it, so there isn't a ton of seating. Be aware of the Prepared food - the food is past its prime. I was so excited to support another local business - sadly the food was old, mushy, soggy, and tossed all of it out because it made me sick. If you want to a good experience, order something fresh off the menu. The Rosemary Sea Salt Focaccia bread ($8) was very oily and very stiff and stale, the Lentil and Eggplant dish ($15) as well as the Farro dish ($8) were both very mushy. While I should have paid closer attention to the food preparation dates labeled on the bottom of the containers marked 12/16 for the Farro and 12/21 for the Lentil and Eggplant, that food should have been tossed out days ago (it should have a 2 or 3 day rule). My stomach started churning after a few bites and $32 down the drain. The dishes had plenty of potential and I'm sure it would have been a different story if the food was fresh. Sadly, I don't agree with the 4.9 rave reviews and had a completely different experience. The focaccia here is some of the best focaccia that I've ever had in my life. I ordered the marinara focaccia and it was so crispy and flaky on the outside but soft and lightly chewy on the inside . The broiled herbs, shallots, and sauce on top are tangy and flavorful. The lamb Kofte took a few minutes to come out so you know it was fresh. The hummus that they sell is also amazing. Some of the best food I've eaten in I don't know how long! I went here for lunch with my family. We tried the hummus and chicken, open-faced chicken salad sandwich, plum olive oil cake, and the fig and goat cheese focaccia. The focaccia was easily the best I've ever had: fluffy, bursting with flavor, and with the perfect amount of toppings. The chicken was juicy and cooked to perfection, and we were literally scraping the bowl to get all of the hummus out of it. The sandwich and olive oil cake were also tasty and flavorful, but those first two dishes knocked it out of the park. Georgetown is a trek for me, but it would be worth it to come back to this spot. The food is made by hand and with care - they even whipped the whipped by hand with a whisk in front of us for the cake. There is plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors, as well as a little mini market with specialty ingredients you can buy. Staff was so friendly, and every dish looked incredible. Green Almond Pantry was born. To that end, Green Almond Pantry is a small restaurant in Mt. Vernon Square near Blagden Alley serving food for lunch only starting at 11:30am. There's only eight stools around the wood bar. The chef creates seasonal plates like the roasted peach and serrano ham salad until she clocks out to be with her daughter. Once she is gone, diners can order food already made to go. The space itself is simple and beautiful. The front window lets the natural light pour in creating a welcoming atmosphere. Thought we'd have lunch at Green Almond Pantry after our bike ride on the Capital Crescent trail on Sunday. However, the menu items were not available, only grab and go items from the fridge. There weren't a lot of options for lunch. We picked up a leek & feta tart and a plastic wrapped eggplant focaccia. We really liked the leek & feta tart. The eggplant focaccia was cold, so it wasn't very appealing. Green Almond Pantry is located within the same space as South Block (the acai bowl place) and Bakeshop. I stopped by Green Almond Pantry, located on 9th Street near the Convention Center, to grab some lunch on a work day (fyi the venue is closed on Mondays...so I had to come back on a Tuesday). Ranked #19 on the Washingtonian Top 100 list and showing a 5 star rating on Yelp, I came into this spot with some pretty high expectations. What I found wasn't exactly what I was expecting. The venue is rather quaint with a small bar-style seating to the right and various items for sale to the left. While I had arrived in a suit, most of the people in the shop looked like they were either there for some coffee or deal with catering (which apparently is a big part of this venue's business). After taking a seat and waiting awkwardly for a couple minutes, a young lady came up to say hello and see if I wanted anything to drink. I decided to start with some tea. She went to grab me some before I had the chance to order as she told me to look over the menu, which is located up on the chalkboard. I already knew what I wanted based on my previous online research, but I waited for my tea and then put in my order for the little little in the middle and the lamb and hummus. After a few minutes, the server brought me out some bread and the little little. The bread was fine. The little little, which is 5 servings of different vegetables listed up on the board, was also fine, but not quite as exciting as it had been made out to be in the reviews. A little while afterwards, the server brought me out the large bowl of lamb and hummus, although it should really be described as hummus with some lamb. While it was nice to have a warm bowl of these two items on a relatively cold and rainy day, the dish didn't really stand out and was actually better when I warmed it back up the next day and mixed it with other items. Overall, Green Almond Pantry was an ok little Mediterranean shop. While I think they would provide some good catering, I think this is more of a "grab a quick bite" or "stop in on a lazy Saturday" type of shop rather than a "search out for lunch or dinner" type of place. read more

We've had two excellent takeout dinners from Green Almond Pantry during the shut down. Last night, we got a salt-baked branzino that came with an heirloom tomato salad, a roasted artichoke, green beans, roasted red peppers, and focaccia for $65. It was more than enough for two people (leftovers for lunch!). Everything tasted great and it was probably on the healthier side of things too. We also got a slice of the olive oil cake with peaches, which was excellent. Give them some business and keep them in the neighborhood! Very rarely am I so impressed with a lunch experience. Green Almond Pantry blew me away. The attention to detail in the dishes at this quaint pantry-style restaurant was spectacular. The flavors were so strong and fresh and the prices are unusually modest for D.C. I can't recommend this place enough. Marinara Foccacia (5/5): For the reasonable price of $5 I ordered a massive piece of Marinara Foccacia. The bread was exceptionally fresh and crispy around the edges and the tomatoes and sauce were delicious and succeeded in not overwhelming the dish. Little Little in the Middle (5/5): I would recommend this dish because it allows you to sample five different dishes they offer. I never knew such basic ingredients like black-eyed peas, lettuce and string beans could be made so flavorful. My plate was beautifully presented and the crispness and flavor of each dish were remarkable. For under twenty dollars I had an incredible lunch experience and the place was completely empty... I almost didn't want to write this review in hopes of keeping this place to myself. If you find yourself in need of lunch in downtown D.C., Green Almond Pantry will surely impress. read more

Are you looking for the best, most decadent chocolate cake in Washington, DC??? If you are, look no further than Green Almond Pantry. I was not expecting this cake to be so wonderful! It was moist and tasted like it was created using some pretty high quality chocolate! I took my sweet slice of heaven home and ate it with vanilla bean ice cream and raspberries. I still have a smile on my face! Apparently, they also have other items that are really good as well. I will definitely be going back!!! Finally got around to trying this place after reading a lot about it, and it did not disappoint! We stopped by at noon (prime lunch time) and waited about twenty minutes for a table. The cafe is small but very cozy and the exposed brick wall and counter top seating makes it feel like you are at a friend's place. We ordered a few different items: the little little in the middle, hummus topped with lamb and arugula, fried artichoke, focaccia, eggplant confit sandwich, and chocolate cake. While everything tasted simple, fresh, and delicious, the stars for me were the hummus topped with lamb and the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake is a must try - extremely moist, light, not too sweet and one of the yummiest chocolate cakes I've ever eaten. I haven't had a meal - from anywhere - like the one they gave me that day, in a long time. They're doing something special, and I recommend you make a stop if you end up in the neighborhood. The staff is friendly and service is quick. The lamb hummus was flavorful and filling, especially with the bread. I don't usually care for arugula, but it gave a nice bitter bite to cut through the hummus. So many excellent vegan selections! I finally got to Green Almond Pantry which closes by 2:30 p.m., went to the back past the bakery to an incredible section of mostly vegan foods. Farro and walnut salad, lentil and walnut salad, giant bean salad, smoky eggplant, roasted corn and tomato soup, and marina pizza which is mostly focaccia bread were the vegan sections took home. My favrorites were the farro salad and also the gigantic bean salad, although everything was excellent. The marina pizza was mostly bread, but was good. My husband ate that, while I sampled the others. I learned the marina sauce, vegan, is one of the most popular selections at this time. The tomato roasted corn soup is sweet tomatoes and is often served cold. That sounds great for summer. I will definitely be back to try more and am thrilled to have so many vegan options. I love those that are not oily, super spicy, etc. BTW, many selcitns were already sold out. it is bet to go early. The bakery on the way in is very tempting, with many types of cookies, cupcakes etc. I chose a vegan ginger snap with creme, vegan, but was told the oatmeal creme is one of the most popular.
