A nice place to eat in Long Beach. (I'd like to say 3.5 stars for my 1st visit but no option for that.) The place was clean but small. Staff VERY PLEASANT AND CHEERFUL A+ for that. I thoroughly enjoyed my entree (pineapple duck curry) just the right spice and very filling. My bf did not enjoy his entree very much and I did not find it as appetizing as we hoped. (Crawfish? Or prawn heads? in the dish reminiscent of alien flying cockroach). Basil fried rice on the dry side(drier than usual and needs more basil) maybe I just like a lot of basil. Food was pretty good but a bit on the expensive side. There a lot of entrees that are over $20. I got one of the $12 noodle dishes with pork - the Spicy Noodles. It had a great presentation and the taste was nice. The noodles were large like chow fun which I was happy to see. Portion size was average. Pork was well cooked and not dry. The spice level was definitely medium so that was a plus. Also got the chicken wings, it was about $8 for 4 wings. They tasted good but weren't too special. The spicy mayo sauce they come with was REALLY good though, Service was fast and friendly but that could be because the place was mostly empty. The greatest place in Long Beach. My boyfriend and I stumbled across it while searching for somewhere new. It is now our all time go to. The place is absolutely adorable. The music makes for a very relaxing atmosphere. The service is outstanding, such a great group of people! The presentation of the food is so cute and quickly prepared. I really liked it here. I love Thai Food ALOT so I have high standards when it comes to Thai places. First off, the restaurant itself is quite small. It can probably fit less than 20 people in it at once. Never the less, I felt comfortable and not squished at all. Service was good, and the food came out extremely fast. My boyfriend and I shared the Pad Se-Ew on semi full stomachs (but were a little hungry after a beach day)- and this was a perfecting sharing size portion. The Pad Se-Ew was delicious, and the sauce its cooked in was amazing. We got chicken in it, which was also very good- not dry at all. Good little Thai restaurant in Long Beach that is very uncomfortable to eat in. First off, it was quite muggy outside and they have no AC! Combine humidity and the fact that seating is cramped make takeout a better option. Aside from the less then pleasant eating quarters, the food was well made. Basil rolls with chicken were nice but I prefer a peanut sauce rather than hoisin sauce with them. Grilled steak appetizer was nice too. Sautéed basil chicken was extremely spicy but delicious. A bit expensive than we usually pay for Thai takeout. But we had a craving. We did a phone order, which I always HATE because it something always goes wrong whenever something isn't in writing. It's why I prefer grub hub or seamless. We were renting for the holiday weekend, and we didn't want our hosts disturbed. We specifically asked them to call us, so we could come out and meet them for the food, rather than them knocking or ringing the bell of the main house. They took down our number wrong. Sigh, of course. Other than that, they came quicker than the estimated one hour, which was nice. Calamari -- thick breading and deep fried. Ate more dough than actual squid. Spring rolls - Had a decent amount of veggies in it, which is better than Chinese spring rolls where you are lucky to have two shreds of green cabbage inside. Crispy with a nice sweet chili sauce. Pad Thai- The best dish in my opinion. Not dry or saucy, just balanced. Yellow Curry -- way too runny, but had a nice kick. Gave such a tiny container of rice, which could not feed two people. It was the size of a child's fist! Rice isn't that expensive, I think they can be a little more generous with their portion. Thai Fried rice -- Not too salty or oily, and balanced with the veggies. Abysmal, terrible service. Where do I start? It took forever for someone to come take our order. Cooking food and putting it on the table does not make you a restauranteur. Please sir, go take a business course or course on customer service. The customer is always right, especially when your menu has mistakes on it! Drink menu said, Corona Modelo - dark beer. I pointed at menu and ordered said Corona. What comes to the table is a piss yellow normal Corona. I point to an empty bottle of Modelo at a table near by and say I that I ordered the Modelo and it specifically said "dark beer" on your menu - this (I point to piss yellow Corona) is not "dark" beer. Guy (assuming owner) stands there and denies and argues. He tells me I ordered a Corona. I tell him, I ordered and pointed to the dark Corona Modelo on the menu. He continues to argue with me. I say is there a problem and a reason why you can't go get me the correct beer - I hadn't touched the wrong Corona. That's a dollar loss for him, but cheap owner needs prodding to go get me the right beer. He refuses to bring me a menu so that I can show him his mistake on the menu. No apology, no nothing. He begrudgingly brings me the right beer. I ordered the peanut chicken, which was good, about 3-4 stars for the food, but the peanut sauce was not mixed well, some of it looked like a lumpy spoon of peanut butter they had put into the dish. My friends enjoyed their food as well. The restaurant was FREEZING in the summertime, super air-conditioned. The girls next to us were freezing and wearing their sweaters, the people on the other side of our table were also freezing. We asked the guy to please turn the A/C down...what does he do? He looks at us again...no apology, no sorry you feel uncomfortable eating in our freezer (I mean restaurant). He hesitates. We ask again if it would be a problem to just turn it down a bit, the people at the table next to us nod in agreement. He walks away, without saying a word. What a gem of a "restaurant manager." Seriously dude, go take a course in customer service because you absolutely suck at it!!! We had to wait forever for the bill, it took them forever to run my friend's credit card. Two of us left cash, the other one a credit card. We handed him the cash and told him to put the remainder on the card. He brings back the cash with the credit card charge. Does he not know how this works? Is this his first ever attempt at splitting a bill. This is ridiculous. I left feeling so frustrated. It didn't matter that the food was good. We were treated terribly. The service sucked. We will never go back. read more

Not to much by the ways of Thai food in Long beach...shocking, I know anywho, I had a few minutes to kill, and I've been in the mood for pad thai for a while so I swung by. The noodles were well flavored - and I got there in time for the lunch special - the menu is pretty extensive, so there's a lot to choose from, which is sweet - they also have a lot of daily specials. so the lunch special was 8.95 or 7.95 for the lunch selection I got, I chose pad thai with shrimp, and salad (you can get soup also). The soup was excellent - i love that spicy kinda veggie soup that doesn't burn my throat when I drink it. The noodles weren't smushy and nasty clumpy - although next time I'm probably going to opt for the chicken - the shrimp was well seasoned, it just didn't do it for me. Its small, and cutely (yea thats a word) decorated. I also think its great that there was a table of four UPS fellas that clearly eat there every day - they were charging their phone behind the counter and joking around - I always feel like any place that has a loyal following, or people willing to eat there by themselves (me and some other dude) has to be good. whats even more exciting is a german brat house is opening right next door...to this place and my burrito spot. yahtze! read more

The one star is for the dry chicken Pad Thai and overcharging tax. Also because I can't give them no stars. I have been coming to Cha Ba for the last year or so because it's convenient. Typically I order the pad Thai with chicken. Yesterday was the last day I will ever spend money there. The chicken was as always dry but the noodles were not soft and no taste at all as if no seasoning or sauce was used. I had an order of fried dumplings that looked old, double fried and it tasted as so. The salad also had old wilted lettuce. My biggest pet peeve about this place which I noticed last time and wanted to see if it was a mistake is that they round up on the total price which means your paying extra...I could care less about 50 cents or a dollar but they do it every time and that's called stealing. Take a look at the hand written green receipt that usually goes unnoticed on the bottom of the merchant and customer copies. If they overcharge just a little so people don't realize it adds up. If they can't pay their bills during this time then they should close instead of stealing. Also I was given an attitude when I asked how a lunch special of $8.95 and $8 dumplings come to $23.95. She said it was a dinner price. I said I ordered the lunch special...it was 1:30pm. She adjusted it. Threw the receipt on the table And turned around with an attitude. Next time I will drive an extra few minutedrive to the west end and go to Ra-Kang Thai. The food and service are way better. read more

This place is the bomb, it's been open for many years on a block that changes restaurants very frequently. There's a reason Chaba is still in business. The food speaks for itself, everything is delicious. They are very accommodating of allergies and special requests. Nothing but good things to say about this place, and so happy they've stayed open during COVID-19. Their curries, noodles, pad Thai, appetizers are all top notch. Look. I came here for a good Thai meal. I absolutely love Thai food as its the perfect fusion of Asian/Indian flavors. Let me take you through my meal at Cha Ba Thai. Appetizer - Calamari. Possibly one of the best calamaris I've ever had. Get it. Incredible. Perfectly crispy and the sauce is on point. Entree - I had the Pad Se-Ew with chicken, which is flat rice noodles with basil, bell pepper, onions. Overall I'd say it was okay, not the best I've had but I was expecting a lot better because the waiter said it was his favorite. It tasted too sweet and they used a little too much sauce. I asked for it to be spicy. They delivered on that. Entree - My gf had the Veggie Pad Thai. She said it tasted a little odd, so I tried it and immediately I knew that the peanuts were burnt. That completely ruined the dish. Other than the peanuts being burnt, it tasted pleasant. Dessert - Fried Ice Cream. Okay. Presentation 5 stars. This dish came out flaming, literally, it looked awesome. Unfortunately by the time I could get my phone out the flame died out. Now taste, eh. Honestly I've had better. The fried ice cream tasted like it just came out of the freezer, the "fried" part too. Other places just do it better. If you want an epic fried ice cream check out Osaka in Lynbrook. Verdict: would I go again? Yes. Ambience was nice. Appetizer was seriously the best I've ever had. I'll give their entrees another shot and I'll probably skip on dessert. I will start by saying that the food is absolutely delicious. I would give it five stars BUT the service isn't great (borderline rude) and the restaurant is way to small and crammed. Very hectic in there. I live nearby and because it's so good I don't mind waiting sometimes over an hour for delivery or walking over a few blocks. Beware, the person who takes the orders will ask if you can just come pick up the food yourself (more than one occasion). However, after trying to eat in the actual restaurants for a pretty important dinner I was disappointed and have kind of turned away from the restaurant. They don't take reservations so I went a bit early (half hour) to see if I could get a table for a semi important dinner. I understand that they were busy but I waited about 15 min, then when I said I would like a table for four the person who was helping me looked around and told me that I had to wait for people to finish eating and maybe I could wait about an hour. Then because the restaurant is so crammed I was practically standing on someones table even though I was by the door so he said that I could maybe wait outside. Then finally after about a half hour I went in (it was starting to rain) and asked how the table was going and he said that it would be about 45 minutes because I had a "big party" - meaning not two people and that it would be hard to fit us that maybe I'd like to come back another day. Their food might be delicious and I really recommend the basil chicken rice, chili fish and shrimp lemongrass soup BUT do takeout only and have a lot of time on your hands if you opt for delivery (and they agree). Prices are decent. It's a shame that service is the sole purpose that this rating is so low - the food and portions are great for the price. I just feel that it's a small restaurant and they get overwhelmed because the food is great so they have a lot of customers. (Take out is a bit hard to convey at times also and the menu has been taken off of their site, so you need a menu from the restaurant). I suggest if you do go, go on an off time. read more

Love the Nua Yang and the Basil Roll appetizers. Duck salad is very flavorful (although a little skimpy on the duck). The lemongrass salad with squid is really good. The Tom Yum Goong soup is one of my favorite hangover cures, nice and spicy. Average Pad Thai. All of the entrees I've tried are good, none of them were mind-blowing. I've eaten at Cha Ba many times (5+) The best thing on the menu is Pad Thai, which has been shrinking in size over the last 2 years. It is delicious! I really love Tom Yan Goon soup in general, but unfortunately Cha Ba's soup is mediocre at best. I would avoid it here. The curry doesn't have much flavor, and turns into a paste if left out too long. The chicken is dry. Service is given by waiters who don't speak much english and who can't make up for the mediocre food. Prices are ridiculously high for the quality that you get. read more
