My husband and I passed by Secret Thai Kitchen on a weekend trip to Jones Beach. Drove down the Nautical Mile out of curiosity and saw the restaurant, checked Yelp and read great reviews. To start, our waitress was delightful & other staff were also very friendly. Drinks were great - their special margarita & green Thai iced tea. We started with the peanut dumplings and they were oh so delicious and beautifully served. My husband had the volcano chicken at level 4 & I had pad Thai level 3. Both were excellent but the volcano chicken was so, so good it kind of overshadowed my pad Thai, but again, everything was wonderful. My only regret is that we live too far away! read more

Went to Secret Thai Kitchen in Freeport on a Saturday afternoon. The inside has a relaxed casual vibe and feels like a comfortable neighborhood Thai spot. It is cute enough for lunch or a low key dinner and the staff was attentive and checked on us throughout the meal. They do have happy hour until 4 on Saturdays with $3 off cocktails which is a nice perk. I had the margaritas and they were actually really good and made strong so I will give them that. For food I ordered the whole fried snapper with basil. The fish itself was fresh and fried really well. Texture was great and it was cooked properly. The basil sauce just did not have much flavor for me which was disappointing. The fish deserved a better sauce. We also had the chicken pad see ew. The noodles were soft and cooked nicely but the dish was much sweeter than I am used to for Thai food and very heavy on sodium. It was a little overpowering. Our favorite Thai spot on the island. They have a huge menu. Items that you usually don't find at other places. This place is legit. You cannot go wrong with anything you order. Love the Thai fried rice and the grilled pork. The pad Thai and pad see ew is fantastic. You have to order at least one curry dish while you're there. Amazing!! The service is always so good here too. They are top of everything. The food comes out piping hot, so fresh, and fast. Always always always save room for dessert. The mango sticky rice is generous and delicious. And for the nautical mile, it's great that they have parking in the back, so convenient! During off season it is really easy to find parking on the street out front too. Be aware, that like majority of businesses on the mile there is a high threshold step to get in the establishment. Visited on a Saturday night on a holiday weekend. We got there at around 7 and there was only one other table with others at the bar. However, before we left the place was fairly packed on a rainy evening. The space is quaint with a full bar and cozy decor. The service was fantastic; attentive and quick. The drink selection was decent, a lot of things sounded interesting to try. We both had a cocktail and a soju shot and they were good. Only thing I would say was my drink was rimmed with tajin and it was a bit overpowering as if it was done in excess but other than that the drinks were really good. We ordered the garlic pepper calamari to start. It was delicious but be warned it is a lot of food! It looks like it comes as a meal as it came with rice and was the most expensive thing on the bill, however, it was very good. I had the spicy udon with beef as a main and my boyfriend the spicy basil fried rice. 10/10 for both dishes! No notes. They were done very well. We ordered them 'medium spicy' and it was perfect. Secret Thai Kitchen might still be a secret to some, which I'm sorry for you should that be the case because there's simply few Thai or any Asian restaurants I've come across as authentic and delicious. Larb with ground pork, scallions, cilantro, roasted rice, with mixed greens, sliced carrots, cucumbers and shallots cooked with a sprinkling of fish sauce is alone worth the trip here. Pineapple fried rice with shrimp was the second blessing chosen and again total perfection each I ate here at the restaurant. Cocktails were spectacular and serving staff fantastic. What's quite remarkable is the menu is fairly extensive yet it didn't appear that they miss on any dish. Patrons dining while I was here all had similar reaction describing how good their dishes they chose were. It made me regret not ordering more dishes to bring home than just the beef Pad Thai which was so outrageously good. Also found the servings here are generously sized dishes. I felt as if I was cheating by receiving cuisine of this quality for what I paid. Quite remarkable indeed. I wish there more establishments that have it going on as much as the folks at Secret Thai Kitchen does.
