Originally planning to arrive at around midnight from Portugal, a flight delay caused us to arrive in Madrid about an hour later. After settling in at our hotel, we set out to find a place to grab a bite.
The majority of restaurants by our hotel were already closed/closing up for the evening. We were tired, hangry, and were really losing hope as Burger King was the only thing that was open. I thought to myself "there ain't NO WAY I'm having Burger King for my first meal in SPAIN????
So we headed back towards our hotel, crossing a major highway, and started to navigate the area. By this time, it was about 2:30am and thinking we'd have to sleep on an empty stomach, a light in the distance got us walking faster and faster until we reached Cerveceria Loredo. We asked if they were still open, but could see that they were already cleaning up. "The grill is closed, but you're welcome to eat what we have here." The owner says, pointing to the display case that had a few salads, cold items, and a few items that could be warmed up. YESSSSSS!!!!! I also scoped out the area and saw some Iberico de Bellota(AKA THE BEST JAMON IN THE WORLD) by the window, so we got a plate of that with some Manchego cheese, a seafood pasta salad, a warm baked tuna and veggie item called Torra, and two Amstel on tap, and we were happy campers!
The owner and his wife, a Colombian transplant were so nice and hospitable and started to chat up a storm as soon as they found out were from Vegas, Me? I was busy stuffing my face with our food rarely coming up for air, and enjoying every nutty slice of Iberico Ham...Man, that sure hit the spot! After about an hour and a half, we graciously thanked them for taking us in, and made our way back to our hotel. What a memorable adventure that was, and we'll always be thankful for this little local spot. ALOHA!!!
