    Spaghetti Bolognese

Five stars across the board. It's been the best service and meal we have had in Madrid so far. They really spoil you here at this restaurant and want you to have the FULL EXPERIENCE of what they offer. Complimentary champagne and after dinner drinks. Hubs got the ribeye, I got the spaghetti bolognese. We have five more days in Madrid, I know we will be in there again for dinner before we leave.

What a great experience dining at De Maria! We started with some soup and bread, I got lost in the translation but it appeared to be pea soup. Very good and a great starter. Grilled provolone with oregano as a starter and was great! Two perfect sangrias were our drinks. She ordered the spaghetti and I ordered sirloin as out meals. Good spaghetti, very rich and flavorful. I am a steak eater, most of the time if we are out I will try a steak cut. It's a bold statement but this may have been, no probably was, the best steak I have ever ordered. Thick, cooked to perfection, medium inside with a slight crisp around the edges. If I lived in Madrid I would eat it weekly! We finished the meal with complementary limón sorbet and almond teja cookies, then a limón liquor and a creama liquor. The creama we loved! The service was impecable, so professional and attentive. The final bill was just over $100 and well worth every dime! I HIGHLY recommend! What a great experience!

When we first arrived to Madrid at 5 p.m. we decided to splurge on a nice dinner. The big problem was that most restaurants do not serve dinner until 8 p.m. Well that is way too late according to our culture, customs and digestive system so we asked the hotel where we can grab a nice dinner at this time frame. They recommended The De Maria Restaurant down the street. This restaurant served dinner and was open. That was perfect so we headed over there. We are so glad we took their suggestion because the dinner was so good! The waiters were on top of their game and couldn't do enough for us. They started us out by giving us a free glass of pink champagne. My husband ordered the steak and I ordered the Caesar Salad. Before our entree was served they served fresh bread and butter along with a small glass of yummy vegetable soup. Our meals came timely and were very good. My husband (a steak lover) loved his ribeye steak! After our main meal we were given a small glass of sorbet. We were too full for dessert - but we decided to order it anyways. We ordered the apple tart with ice cream. That was heavenly! We learned that the desserts are made fresh every day on the premises. To finish the evening - they served us a complimentary glass of limoncello. Very classy and unexpected. As for the cons of this restaurant- I think they may have been short staffed that night. If that wasn't the case - I feel that the waiters were a bit overly concerned over our table settings. They were constantly bringing or taking away a plate or a glass. But all in all -food was really good, prices are reasonably priced especially for a fine dining restaurant. It is definitely worth a visit.

Beef mollejas is unbelievable. We went there yesterday and had to go back again today. Everything we tried was delicious!

Absolutely delicious, everything. The ravioli was great, the beef mollejas was soo good that we had to go back the next day. You need to try this place if you're in Madrid.

We ordered a bottle of Remelluri Reserve rioja and 2 plates of high steak for two with a side of peppercorn and mushroom gravy, an apple, walnut, and blue cheese salad, and grilled vegetables. Wow! I can't even articulate how phenomenal this all tasted together. If you are in Madrid, this place was a perfect 2PM lunch stop.

Pretty good find in Madrid! They have a great special if you sit at the bar. For 12€ you get an appetizer, steak, potato or salad, dessert, and a glass of wine or beer. The waiters were very friendly and recommended some great places to go during our stay.

That's when I enlisted the help of this nifty website called Yelp and looked for the best places to eat in Madrid. After perusing the list of the top spots for a while, Casa Federica stood out to me because of its unique menu offerings. I wanted something different, and here this place was, waving its hands in the air, saying: "Bring me, your tired, your tapas frustration!" So I headed over and boy, was I pleased. My sister and I sat inside this cute little place and were helped by one of the friendliest guys who didn't mind explaining the menu to us or making suggestions on what to eat. We started with the spinach buñuelos and ordered the chicken with a gravy sauce as well as a pumpkin and cheese empanada. The buñuelos were honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten. They were very lightly fried but the spinach mix was amazing and so unique that it's hard to describe it. They didn't taste like gross spinach, but they were delicious and soft. The empanada was also a hit. Even though the menu says "pumpkin and cheese," the empanada was more pumpkin than cheese which was nice because I really love pumpkin. The bread wasn't too doughy and it was a good size to split between me and my sister. The chicken dish, which we ordered as our main meal, was amazing. Now, Spain is full of jamón so finding chicken anywhere is a daunting task, and finding chicken that's actually good is even more difficult. However, the chicken at Casa Federica was amazing. The gravy-like sauce on top of it was perfect and not too salty but just savory enough to satisfy. The combination of friendly service, ambiance and food gives this place five stars. It was a welcome reprieve from the standard Spanish fare and an experience I enjoyed a lot.

We arrived early (8:30) and had the place mostly to ourselves. The cold bar is delicious, with lots of choices of salads, fruits, olives, all kinds of good stuff. But don't fill up there (unless you're a vegetarian) because MEAT is the word here! (OK, actually, it's carne, but you get the idea.) Everything we had from the chefs was delicious. Black sausage, Argentinian sausage, steak, chicken wrapped in bacon, even the grilled veggies were amazing. The prix fix is very reasonable. My only complaint was that we didn't know we could order tinto verano instead of bottled wine. That would have been better (the wine was good, but it was hot, and we could have used something lighter.) But I won't take points for that. All told, the Knife was perfect! 5 smokey grilled stars!

There is a set menu for EUR 12 which includes some skirt steak and some other items and is basically a complete meal for an excellent price. Not high quality, but good value. That is what most reviewers seem to have ordered and been happy with. I foolishly ordered their most expensive steak (black angus "top Argentinian", which I assume to be sirloin but seems like ribeye).). Asked for medium rare. Also got a chorizo (good) and some iberico ham (good, but this is Spain...). My steak www two pieces, and basically different thicknesses, which is a bad sign. The smaller piece was cooked medium to a bit more, and was thin. Was fine, not amazing. The larger piece was a perfect combination of cold, basically rare~, and horribly trimmed with silverskin throughout. I was tempted to ask for it to be cooked more but once I realized how bad a cut it was I didn't bother. I ate about half of it and paid and left, If you go, just get the menu. Don't bother with anything higher end.
