I really liked the feel of this steakhouse. Inside was beautifully decorated and lighted. I ordered the ribeye (Argentina beef). It came out as I had ordered and was a very generous helping. The steak was nicely seasoned. Servers were abundant although I had trouble determining my actual server. I also had the walnut apple salad which had a complementary dressing. I don't know why De Maria only has four stars. This place is totally a five star restaurant. They gave us a lot of food which made our money worthwhile. They gave us complimentary champagne, olives, soup, two small bottles of digestifs and small sweet snack! My fish was delicious, asparagus very tasty. If you value honesty, fairness, or basic customer service, do yourself a favor and skip Da Maria. We showed up without a reservation and politely asked for a table for two -- we didn't care if it was inside or outside. The hostess told us to wait. No problem. But then a group of three arrived right behind us -- also with no reservation. After making us stand there, the hostess came back and told us the restaurant was full and they couldn't seat us. Seconds later, she seated the party of three that had just walked in. When we questioned this blatant favoritism, the excuse was laughable: "because they were three, not two." I asked for a manager, expecting at least an apology, but instead got denial. He told us what we saw "didn't happen" and suggested we go to a different restaurant. Translation: they don't care about fairness, and they certainly don't care about their customers. Madrid is full of amazing restaurants where you'll be treated with respect. Da Maria is not one of them. Don't waste your time or your money here. read more

I wanted to have a nice dinner with my wife while on vacation. The place looked really nice so we decided to give it a try. We are from the Las Vegas area so we are used to good food and service. This place by far had the worst service I've ever experienced. The waiter and busser were extremely rude and snobby. We felt like we were bothering them the entire time. Not once did they come check and ask how our food was. I even had to get up to ask for a water refill. I asked the busser for the bill and after 20 minutes I had to get up and ask for it. The waiter finally brought it and actually had the nerve to throw it on the table and just walk away. It took everything in me not to get up and get in his face. We are great tippers and I didn't leave not one euro. Do not ever go to this place. There are plenty of beautiful and delicious restaurants in Madrid. This was not one of them. read more

First and last time! Since we got our server named Vangie she was very un courteous, treated us in a very demeaning way. We waited 2 hours for our food to arrive. The Entraña was hard as a shoe sole. What a great experience dining at De Maria! We started with some soup and bread, I got lost in the translation but it appeared to be pea soup. Very good and a great starter. Grilled provolone with oregano as a starter and was great! Two perfect sangrias were our drinks. She ordered the spaghetti and I ordered sirloin as out meals. Good spaghetti, very rich and flavorful. I am a steak eater, most of the time if we are out I will try a steak cut. It's a bold statement but this may have been, no probably was, the best steak I have ever ordered. Thick, cooked to perfection, medium inside with a slight crisp around the edges. If I lived in Madrid I would eat it weekly! We finished the meal with complementary limón sorbet and almond teja cookies, then a limón liquor and a creama liquor. The creama we loved! The service was impecable, so professional and attentive. When we first arrived to Madrid at 5 p.m. we decided to splurge on a nice dinner. The big problem was that most restaurants do not serve dinner until 8 p.m. Well that is way too late according to our culture, customs and digestive system so we asked the hotel where we can grab a nice dinner at this time frame. They recommended The De Maria Restaurant down the street. This restaurant served dinner and was open. That was perfect so we headed over there. We are so glad we took their suggestion because the dinner was so good! The waiters were on top of their game and couldn't do enough for us. They started us out by giving us a free glass of pink champagne. My husband ordered the steak and I ordered the Caesar Salad. Before our entree was served they served fresh bread and butter along with a small glass of yummy vegetable soup. Our meals came timely and were very good. My husband (a steak lover) loved his ribeye steak! After our main meal we were given a small glass of sorbet. We were too full for dessert - but we decided to order it anyways. We ordered the apple tart with ice cream. That was heavenly! We learned that the desserts are made fresh every day on the premises. To finish the evening - they served us a complimentary glass of limoncello. Very classy and unexpected. As for the cons of this restaurant- I think they may have been short staffed that night. If that wasn't the case - I feel that the waiters were a bit overly concerned over our table settings. They were constantly bringing or taking away a plate or a glass. But all in all -food was really good, prices are reasonably priced especially for a fine dining restaurant. It is definitely worth a visit. read more

Cada vez que venimos a Madrid nos gusta venir a De Maria pq aunque no es un restaurante español su comida es deliciosa. Siempre habíamos tenido una buen a experiencia excepto hoy. Tito, nuestro mesero, nos hizo sentir muy mal con su actitud arrogante y poco servicial. Primero le preguntamos por los corte de carnes y nos dijo q no sabía cómo explicarlos. Le Preguntamos cuál corte era el Solomillo ( ya q estamos acostumbrados a los nombre en inglés) y su contestación fue que ya estaba cansado que le preguntaran qué corte era el solomillo. Finalmente nos dio una vaga explicación qué corte era. Eramos dos parejas y nosotros pedimos nuestra carne medium well y la otra pareja la pidió medium, su contestación fue q él no sabía ni entendía lo q era medium que le explicaran cómo era que la querían . Su actitud fue arrogante y prepotente. Gracias a Dios que luego siguió atendiéndonos un joven muy amable llamado Angelo, el cual hizo que la segunda parte de nuestra cena fuera agradable. Su atención muy respetuosa y cordial. La comida estaba muy buen, excepto el Postre( que es el que siempre pedimos) las milhojas rellena de dulce de leche y esta vez nos decepcionó . This is the best place in the area!! Right near the Puerta del Sol and the Gran Vía, it's secluded and central to make the perfect balance. You can hear what's going on but you're not right smack in the center, and that's great. What surprised me the most was the quantity of freebies they gave us. We got gazpacho, mini toasts with a delicious sauce, and at the end like a three course desert all for free! Now lets talk about the food. Absolutely no complaints, and only praise. I ordered a salad and a steak, both of which were incredible. The salad was tasty, and had a great dressing, and the steak was cooked just right, not to mention beautifully arranged. On top of everything, the staff is really the most wonderful staff, I don't think I've really encountered such a friendly staff. I would recommend this place to anyone. It included amazing grilled veggies.
