The food was quite good. Service was decent. Our waitress knew English but didn't really seem interested in communicating in it. So lots of finger pointing to the menu. This was the worst steak I've ever had in my life. The thin steak was inedible, there was some layer of tendon or gristle, or something even more repulsive surrounding it, I tried 4 or 5 bites to see if it was just the piece of meat, but I decided to stop because I didn't know where the nearest hospital was in case I choked. I literally wouldn't feed this to my dog. They ended up taking the steak off my bill but it shouldn't have ended up on my plate to begin with. So gross. read more

Ate here on our last night in Madrid midway through a long European trip. Looked really nice from the outside with a pleasant setting outside facing the opera house plaza. Opted for the inside as it was a humid night. Nice, quiet setting with the restaurant about half filled. Service was a standout - offered both Spanish and English menus. The English translations were somewhat simple and the Spanish version offered clearer descriptions of the dishes. Started with some complementary gazpacho, the first of many complementary items offered throughout the night. The grilled meats (chicken, steak) were well done, cooked perfectly, with flavorable sauces. Service was well paced and very efficient and friendly. Had some tiramisu, cake and coffee for desert before we knew about the complementary pudding and anisette. Overall, a memorable night in Madrid and highly recommend. read more

If you are in Madrid. Go Here for dinner. PERIOD. The ambiance is excellent sitting right off of a major plaza so lots to see in terms of people watching. The wait staff was very attentive, but did not "hover" (which my wife hates). Without ruining "the surprise", they give you a lot free here (see my pictures for hints). Centrally located at the opera house in Madrid. This is the best meal in Spain. The bread and wine choices were amazing. A true 5 course. We suggest the Iberian Secret. The best pork ribs without the bones. They start with complimentary cheese, bread, rose cava, and the most amazing Chimichurri spread. The meal was quickly served, hot and perfectly cooked. I came upon De Maria Parrilla while I was in Madrid for my birthday weekend with friends. Our first night there we were all anxious to eat some delicious Spanish food so we stumbled upon this restaurant called De Maria Parrilla near Plaza del Sol. It turned out to be a super expensive place. Upon arrival they gave us champagne that they said was on the house, and a bunch of assorted bread and smear. It was pretty good actually. I of course ordered the seafood paella. When the waitress came to deliver my paella she burned my arm with the hot sizzler plate! It hurt so bad and I still have a scab from it. I was kind of pissed but I didn't say anything to the manager. Other than the sucky service of the place the food was delicious. Well at least most of it, for dessert they gave us mango champagne and I ordered cheesecake. The cheesecake honestly wasn't that good, I think they might have used cottage cheese to make it. Eww. It was really lumpy. When our bill came it totaled 105 euros! **CHEESCAKE TIP FOR LIFE: IF IT'S NOT FROM PHILADELPHIA, IT'S NOT CREAM CHEESE! You cannot make cheesecake with cottage cheese that's so gross! It was such a memorable dinner because so many funny things happened! I regret that we didn't take a group photo at the restaurant. We have mixed feelings about our recent visit to De Maria at this location. It was an early dinner for Madrid standards on a Saturday night. A few tables were open on the terrace, so my partner and our buddy were seated for dinner around 8:45pm. After 15 minutes, we received bread and complementary gazpacho soup in a shot glass. After another 15 minutes our order was taken. Once we finished our bread, the olive oil and balsamic for the bread was delivered. Wine and cocktails were delivered about 45 minutes after we were seated. It was obvious that our waitress was overwhelmed. To the rescue was 'Ramiro'. He took over as our waiter and the rest of the meal went smoother. We ordered the skirt steak, sirloin steak and grilled ribs in addition to side salads which were huge. The steaks were cooked to order, but lacked flavor. The ribs were meaty and slightly charred which made them tasty. The evening ended with delicious lemon pie and Flan. A local friend recommended this place and I was one of the first to show up for dinner at 20:00. I ordered the asparagus and the sirloin. Before my meal came, complimentary bread and pumpkin soup arrived. Both delicious. The asparagus arrived overcooked while the steak purple and much under my "medium" order. The steak Roquefort cheese sauce was extremely salty. I sent the steak back twice and yes, the final time it came out it was completely over cooked and dry. I believe this was perhaps just a language misunderstanding between my server and I. I gave this place 5 stars because the portion sizes were large and the service, impeccable. They sent complimentary desserts, and Spanish "baileys" and apologized profusely for the misunderstanding on steak. My only suggestion would be..to order anything but the steak. So here we were in Madrid, not knowing where to eat tonight. It turned out that there was a major storm heading in and we went into this place not knowing what we were in for. What a pleasant surprise! Service was fantastic! The manager, Angel, took really good care of us tonight. And their signature dish, Pollo de Maria, was hands down probably the best roasted chicken dinner I've ever had prepared for me at any restaurant. Just the smell of natural wood burning when we walked in hinted we'd made the right choice. I don't know when I'll be back, but this place would be first on the list next time. Come here if you are looking for a good steak at lunchtime. Accidentally found this spot after walking around starving. Nice menu with a great selection of beef and sausage. Most items are a la carte but they have a great lunch prix fixe for 14€. Husband got the ribs and I ended up with the Tropical Salad (shrimp, mango, arugula and avocado). Both items were great but watch out for the extra salt they toss on the meat at the end, in case anyone is watching their sodium. We snagged the two seats at the bar in front of the grill which made for a fun afternoon of watching people on the street and food getting prepped. read more

We were looking for a nice place to eat something different than the tapas we've got the other days. We were really surprised by this place. To start with, the food was excellent. They really know how to cook their meat. But the service was even better, and that is why I give this restaurant a 5 star review. The staff is very nice and helpful and it's clear that they all know what they are talking about: the advice about the choice of meat and the best matching wine is very good. And they speak good English, which is not a given in the horeca of Madrid. What we've also liked, is that they serve a lot of complimentary food and drinks. At the start they serve a glass of rosé cava, with a amuse of gazpacho with toast and cream cheese. At the end they serve a little extra dessert peace and bonbons, and after that they came with a tray of three different kinds of Spanish liqueur from which we could all try from. None of this appeared on the bill at the end, all complimentary. And when I asked about what 'dolce leche' was when I was choosing a dessert, she gave me a good explanation but after that she also came with a little glass of dolce leche for us to try it. So, for us the service, very nice food and relaxed environment was the reason that we've eaten here twice at our 5-day trip. Our tips for the food: the high loin steak for 2 or 3 people to share is really good. The rib-eye was also really nice. If you like anything other then only meat, the caesar salad was one of the best I've ever had. Good filling salad. Do not order something from the pasta's. We've tried one pasta and that was not good. But in their defense, this is steak house so you should really order something with meat. And when you do, you will not be disappointed. We went To De Maria two years ago for our final day of our trip to Spain as a treat for our group of six. The steaks where to die for, juicy and tender. My brother specially liked the chimichurri sauce for the steak and that was the main reason for coming back this year. Our little group got bigger at eight people and we didn't needed a reservation. We where all famished and decided on doing the Parrillada for two. We got 4 Parrilladas and believe me this was a lot of food, it had chistorra, Spanish sausage, blood sausage, chicken, steak, cross cut short ribs, loin steak. One parrillada will had been enough for 4 people. This year our waiter Carlos did the tourist treatment. To start of we all got gazpacho soup, mini toasted bread with a cheese spread.all complementary! in addition to this complementary starter we added the mini empanadas and the tostadas with goat cheese and caramelized onions, they where very tasty. We also got a rose wine complements of the house as well which was very good, to that we added a rioja and Tempranillo both very good too. To finished up Carlos gave us complementary desserts consisting of mini brownies, and some kind of cheese cake plus aniz liquor, a lemonchello, coffee liquor and some other one liquor.
