Let's start off with what this place is. This is a gastropub. Not an overly extensive menu, the Beef on Weck is very solid and the Shaved Ribeye Sandwich is delish. Pretty damn good wings but that hot is HOT. The best part is the constantly rotating taps. 26 beers and there is always a nice balance and rotation. The icing on the cake is the staff. Dang. The place looks great from the outside! We were pumped about the patio. The menu looked nice too. We didn't eat here because of the service (or lack of). We found a server to seat us when we walked in, and she took our drink order. Server was friendly but spaced out. We were taken aback by not being greeted by either the server or bartenders when we walked in. There were just a few other tables and it looked like business was slow and they were adequately staffed... two bartenders and a server for less than 5 small tables and some people at the bar. After 20 minutes without a drink or water (we timed it), we ended up leaving because we didn't want to get ourselves locked in to a 2-hour dinner. Bummer! Friendly service and delicious food. Their burgers are hearty and tasty and their pizza is our favorite around...that crust! Tuesday Trivia with Scott Mumford is a lot of fun. The pub used to try and make accommodations for certain larger groups but thankfully stopped doing this and it has been first come first serve ever since. This is better for growing interest and is only fair. We are repeat loyal trivia goers and have been on the losing end of this at times and had to leave because trivia is popular and it fills up fast. Win some, lose some, but management/staff are always trying to help accommodate as many people as possible-again, the fair way for people getting there early and wanting to play, too. BE THERE EARLY for trivia and don't expect that the waitstaff will just block paying customers who arrive from sitting in an empty booth on the off chance some large group will want to sit there, and you will be fine. Came on a Tuesday for trivia and that appears to have been a mistake. I came with a party of seven and was quickly told the table we chose was reserved. They offered to find us a new table and that became a production that ended with us wedged in a corner between two other tables. To be fair it was packed but having to give up the table we had in the first place was crazy. It soon became apparent that getting service was going to be impossible unless we went to the bar. Again it was busy but every table of "regulars" was getting served and we weren't. My food was good although the bartender had to remind the kitchen to make it. The bottom line is other places do trivia on Tuesdays and I bet they don't hassle people who walk in off the street. My advice to this place is don't advertise your trivia to the public if you'd rather cater to regulars. I'm done with these guys. I would like to give it a 3.5! The service was definitely a 4, but the rest, not so much. The prices are a bit steep for food that was just okay. We ordered a sampler platter consisting of cheese babies (fried dough with fresh cheese curd), fried pickles, pierogies, and poutine fries. We got a little tiny bit of cheese babies, fries that were super duper soggy, two pickle spears (chips are wayyy better fried -- I think!) and three pierogies that didn't really have much flavor and were kind of crunchy...weird. The only dipping sauces given to us were sour cream and marinara. Definitely NOT worth $14!! My sister had the French onion soup which she enjoyed, but wasn't the best she's had. They do have a decent beer selection and a full bar. It is definitely more of a drinking place rather than an eating place. They also had live music which started to set up when we left around 9pm. Overall the place is fairly decent. But on Tuesday nights they run a trivia contest and that's a lot of fun. Except for the fact that they have a team that almost always wins and cheats like a bunch of @##'s. The host does a very good job, and he is completely aware, but the owner or someone in management is a total ### and has basically threatened him not to do anything since these @##'s spend significant money there. I am giving this establishment 2 stars. 1 for the drinks and 1 for the server. We walked in on a Friday night when it was gorgeous outside and were offered a seat on the patio. Our first question was, is there smoking allowed on the patio because if so, we absolutely do not want to sit out there. The hostess indicated that on their seated patio, there was not smoking allowed. But out in their open patio there was. We opted for the seat on the patio, and of course where does she sit us.....right next to their open patio where there were 2 people at a picnic table chain smoking. Apparently the hostess did not have her hearing aid in when we said absolutely not next to smoking. In reviewing their beer menu, they had a decent draft list with a few beers that were on the more challenging side to find (Sam Adams Cherry Wheat on draft!) but nothing that was a huge rarity. Their prices were listed by beer size and pitchers. I was impressed with the prices, they were extremely modest. The food here was perhaps the worst I have had in a long time. The next morning still, I am feeling the effects of the insane amount of salt in it. My fiance and I each got a burger. I got a bacon cheeseburger, he got a bleu cheese burger. Mine was cooked medium rare but when cut in half, it looked extremely funny on the inside but could not quite put my finger on why. It was almost as if the outside was seared and the inside was completely raw. This is not what medium rare is. The texture of the burger was strange and awful, and the amount of salty seasoning on it was overwhelming. For someone who is routinely not picky, I struggled my way through eating less than half of this. The fries were mediocre, but shined in comparison to the burger. Eric felt the same way I did about his. Emily, our server was nice and accommodating. She knew we were unhappy about the food and was apologetic as she could be given the circumstances. Her service overall was good, so perhaps they do have some good employees here who care about service. The bar overall is huge, so if you're looking to go somewhere that's not going to be crowded and you'll have space to hang out and mingle, this is it. Both of their patios were really nice, and the inside was spacious as well. I will return here for drinks, but this was possibly the worst food I have ever had. As a Schenectady resident, I give the local places first shot at my $$. My partner ordered French Onion Soup, and she ranks it the best she had in the city. Cocktails were in line with most places, my Manhattan was good. Several other patrons ordered various martinis. My partner had a white wine. I had a Gyro, it was respectable. She had Japanese Guzodu , very good. The live band was a nice touch, but his repertoire was kinda limited if your birthday was before 1976. It was a very warm summer evening, and while I enjoy dining alfueuo, the lack of AC across the indoor parts of premises on such a night others may find unpleasant. All an all, I'll be back with specific friends whom this appeals to. Service was wonderful, but the overall experience gets a 3 to 4. It's good, but not a WOW. read more

My wife and I had dinner there last night (1/22). I had previously had lunch there once. Service was GREAT. Our waitress couldn't have been better or more friendly. Now then: the food? OK; mediocre; so-so. Not really worth a return visit; the only reason we went this time was that we had a DoubleTake voucher. Of course, it might have been better if either of us had had beer. We both ordered steak au poivre. Where, oh where, was the poivre? Also, the steak was too chewy to be very well thought of. My garlic mashed potatoes desperately needed more garlic. My wife says her baked potato was "OK". The salads were insignificant except for the red onion rings, which practically knocked us through the ceiling. We go to restaurants for food, not beer. The food is very good, from the basic stuff - their pizza is my favorite in Schenectady - to the international themed menu - it's great to have a place to get poutine, pirogies & kielbasa, or Argentinian style steak, all under one roof. Live entertainment rules at Centre Street, as they consistently book the best local bands. Especially fun in the warm months, as the outdoor patio area is very nice. This place is still I feel trying to find out what works and what doesn't. For food it's not really that impressive the burger patty is like a hockey puck which is was a little more spread out and flat to make it easier to eat the stockade massacre which had pulled pork and onion rings? odd combo for a massacre. My rating is mostly due to the great beer selection. We came on a random week night, and had a few beers, and dinner. The food was very good, I was pleasantly surprised. The garlic parm chicken wings were FANTASTIC. They were crispy and juicy, and very flavorful. We also got sliders, which were pretty good too. I was not impressed by the pretzels and hot cheese though. They appeared to be frozen, with nothing special about the dip. Once you've had the delicious pretzels from Browns Brewing in Troy though, it's hard to be satisfied by a mediocre pretzel. One note though, on the downside: Because the food was so good, we decided to get take-out a few weeks later. It was NOT good. If you are a craft brew fan than this is a good place to go. They have a wide variety of beers on both tap and bottle. They are one of the few bars that have an enclosed patio which is a very nice feature. They do have live bands play and this place can get quite crowded on the weekends. The downside the place is getting very run down. The bar stools are old and torn. No longer in good shape. The outside bar does not offer the full beer selection as the inside bar so going inside to get beer is a chore when you want to enjoy the patio. I have tried so hard to like the food here but, I just don't recommend it. Nothing stands out as excellent or even an honorable mention. If you just want a place with a good beer variety here is a place to go. If you are looking for a place well kept and well organized than I would travel to another location. read more

I tried both and personally, I liked the vegan pizza better (and its 16", no cheese but delicious sauce) but so awesome this place has vegan options! My team has been coming to trivia here every Tuesday night for years. All of a sudden they are not reserving our table and giving it away to other teams. There are no other tables available and we had to leave. They have disrespected us as loyal patrons. This has happened multiple times. In all honesty this bar deserves zero stars. I stopped in on a cross-country bike ride and I really just wanted to eat a good burger. I noticed that they had a free range one and that sounded great. I ordered it medium well because I like some char on my burgers and it was at least that much done. It came on a brioche bun, which I tend to not like because those are tasty but brioche does not hold up well. However theirs did. I ordered it with white cheddar and barbecue sauce, which I think was homemade but nothing exceptional, and it came with an unripe tomato, Lettuce, and onion. No mayo just the barbecue on the side. I had it with the optional side salad which came with what I would guess is a premade raspberry vinaigrette that was about Cisco quality in other words the greens were not very fresh. Service was friendly but they did forget to bring me a fork. I also just had a steady and to be honest I was surprised that the total bill was $21.Their standard burger is about two dollars cheaper but they don't use that same quality beef in that one, but it just seems like a lot to pay for a pretty average burger. As a former Chef and current food professional I'll admit I'm a tough grader. I gave it three stars because two was a little low but it should be 2.5. read more

Don't bother eating at this pub. We've been here several times because it has a nice outdoor bar and we enjoy sitting outside on a nice day. Unfortunately the food and service has changed recently and it has become more expensive and the quality has gone down. The wait staff is over worked and unfriendly. If it's raining in the summer and outdoor bar is closed don't go unless you want to sit in smoldering heat with ceiling fans blowing hot air at you. The beer selection is good and they used to have a decent happy hour. There are so many better, friendlier restaurants in Schenectady to enjoy a beer with friends. read more

Server: Kristen Table: 3 Guests This bar recently opened up near me. I've been here once before this and it was to have a couple drinks after an awesome night out. This time going it was just to distress. The following are out of 5 Points. * (4) Customer Service - Meaning how well they assisted me in my needs. I believe the Customer Service here is pretty excellent. Kristen was awesome, she kept our one guest's drinks filled and always asked if we needed anything. * (1) Decor - The atmosphere of the place. It's a very open space, for instance if you wanted to compare bar sizes this is probably one of the bigger bars in Schenectady. However, the décor is just weird. Nothing makes me think that this was once a brewery from 1892, except for the beer cans on the wall, which weren't manufactured by the once brewery. The atmosphere of this place can greatly improve. I do like the jukebox though. * (2) Food & Drink - How well the food tastes, their selection of drinks Drinks are pretty delicious here. I had an Angry Balls, which is a combination of Fireball Whiskey and Angry Orchard. However, food here isn't all that great. The fries that came with my "Stockade Massacre" were a joke. I can compare them with fries from the frozen food section in Price Chopper. The burger wasn't all that great either. Ideally, the ingredient concept behind the burger was great, but there were too many flavors mixing and I couldn't get a real sense of how this was supposed to be like "The Stockade Massacre" (Actually known as the Schenectady Massacre for you history buffs out there.) They have these corny names for their burgers, such as "The Doid" which is what apparently Union College students call Schenectady citizens. It is a chicken breast, on a ciabatta roll with spinach and tomato. Not very derpy if you ask me. For an appetizer, I ordered coconut shrimp, which was pretty good. * (1) Price - Here I am not grading my cost, but by the quality of the food I get for the money I spent. (Example: I pay $5 for a hamburger that I could make myself.) The coconut shrimp was $10 for 6 small shrimp battered in coconut and panko. Slightly confused about this. * (3) Presentation - How things are presented. Food, Drink, Staff, etc. The staff was in uniform, I believe. I know the bartenders and the bus boy was in uniform, however I don't know if my waitress was or not since she seemed to be the only one I saw. However, uniforms are something I look forward to so always props to that. On a slightly negative note, I felt that the employees were abusing their employment, since they would go to the drink fountain and drink a cup of soda, pour it out, and grab another. Unprofessional. Food presentation was mediocre at best, food is served in a plastic tray with newspaper type wax paper. Overall Score: 11/25 Final thoughts. This is a pub, and it calls itself a public house and uses the English spelling for Center, which would make someone assume it's typical Brit pub food. It's none of that. It's generic "American" food, which can be made better at the Burger King. I can only say I will give them a redemption in a few years, thus giving them time to sort out their kitchen and what they plan on offering. I would come back for drinks, but food.
