jose and team just finished doing a major re-model (kitchen and bathrooms - stripped and completely re-built) for us in a 1926 nyc coop, and he did a magnificent job. Every job has its challenges, and our beautiful old building, with its concrete walls, "interesting" placement of major immovable common plumbing, original (and cranky) elevator provided plenty of fun challenges for jose and his team. Throughout it all, jose was calm, solution-focused and easy to work with. He provided updates and clear explanations every step of the way, was always on the look out for ways to improve the project (and to save us money), and was more than fair and reasonable when additional work was needed. Another plus is that our design was done by jose frequent collaborator Candace Cavanaugh. She did beautiful work for us and the two of them make a great team. They know and trust each other, communicate well, and never pointed fingers at each other. We did this re-model remotely - we were living out of the country and were here only occasionally and briefly to check on things - which means that we had to place enormous trust in the design sense, level of quality and integrity of our contractor. I contracted to have a 1200 sq ft patio built along with additional concrete repair work with Jose & Cement Tech. He quoted me a price of 15K & required 50% which I gave him. He guaranteed the work would be completed within a week. 5 weeks later he has completed 25% of the work & not returning calls since I questioned on how he was building the patio. Jose shows up in a white van with one day worker & watches him work & pretends to be busy. All said Jose decided to use wood planks for the retaining walls which wasn't what was agreed to. it was estimated to be block / concrete. He then demanded an additional 5K additional to do cement blocks which should cost no more than 1K total for labor & material. Not sure why a concrete contractor would use wood planks to support a concrete patio & he couldn't explain it either. He said it's ok & guaranteed it for 15 years which is ridiculous. I'm now in the process of using a different contractor to fix the mess & build correctly. I have also filed a lawsuit against Cement Tech for reimbursement for the overage I'm incurring with the new contractor. I only have great things to say about Jose and Cement Tech. He recently tackled a closet remodel project for us in the West Village, Manhattan. He was extremely professional and provided us with an accurate bid ahead of time and was very flexible in working with us as the install day kept changing due to the arrival of the product. On the day of the install, he arrived on time and worked very hard throughout the day. He began with the demo of my existing closet and took my rough drawings and turned them into the closet of my dreams! My husband and I hired Jose and his father last year to renovate our front yard. They did an amazing job and were extremely clean and respectful to our neighbors. Jose and his professional team did a great job in replacing our driveway and sidewalk in Manhattan. He is easy to communicate with via email or phone/text and got the job done fast and efficiently. Got a Notice to Repair notification from DOT recently. Sidewalk repair mostly caused by tree root damage. It's the city's responsibility to repair the sidewalk for tree root damage. But they pointed out that I was responsible for damage caused by "wear and tear". I was given a list of recommended concrete businesses and called and emailed at least 15 of them. cement tech was the only one considerate enough to reply. Jose came out and gave me an estimate.
