New to the city and finding your hairstylist again can be tricky. I ended up at Celadon for the positive reviews and appearance of the salon. This will definitely be my regular salon! This review is based on the Osea Deep Sea Facial $155 that I had with Anna. I do want to note that this is more of a hair salon with a few spa rooms so unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this place for your facials. Even with a skilled esthetician, it feels like a hair salon to the consumer so that's where the bread and butter is. Pretty basic steam, cleansing, exfoliation and a mask. The massage for the neck, shoulders and arms was probably the worst I've had with a facial. I didn't feel relaxed afterwards so that was new to me. The lotion that was used wasn't very luxurious either. She barely did any extractions and when I inquired why so few she said I didn't have many which surprised me. Well I ended up at home doing additional extractions on my T-Zone on my own so I was pretty irritated. Why even go to an esthetician if I'm just going to have to do it myself? The products she used on face I had an allergic reaction to, I developed an itchy rash on my cheeks about 1-2 hours later so I ended up washing my face. I don't blame her for that because sometimes you don't know how your skin will react but it just added another layer of frustration. I still tipped her 20% but I wasn't happy about the service. read more

I have been going to Celadon spa for about five years now, most recently on 2/6/17. I am writing this review because I am trying to share more of my favorite experiences in DC and not be such a hoarder of knowledge. I always get my haircut by Eric, and for years I had kept it long and mostly worn on top, which meant I would see him two or at most three times a year. The cut is not cheap however, it seems on par with the other salons I tried before settling on Celadon. This time, however, I had recently had gastric bypass surgery and I wanted a new look to go with my emerging new body. So I let Eric have his way with me, and the results were fabulous. I will change my profile pic to reflect this shortly. I came in with a bunch of pins, and he was able to past the mix of styles to the bones of what I wanted. I felt (and still feel) gorgeous. I also have had the following services with Celadon, all top notch: Waxing, face and body Mani pedi Massage (I've never had a facial in my life so can't speak to those) This last time I was able to book a last minute wax, and even extend what I wanted. They were super flexible and accommodating. I enjoyed my wax with Robin(?) who was a great conversationalist as well as a superb aesthetician. I also like Celadon because the space is pretty, the staff is welcoming, there is always spa water and fresh magazines. It's a very relaxing oasis in the middle of downtown. This review is way overdue. I had the great fortune to have had a wonderful facial from Anna, who I think is a top esthetician. Anna was prompt and I felt instantly at ease under her care and treatment. Celedon Spa is perhaps the best salon in town and I can't recommend Anna high enough. A fantastic experience with Emma for my manicure yesterday,,, but first, let me backtrack: I lived in DC from 2010 - 2011, and the entire time, my hands looked wretched. I would try places that everyone said were great, and would wind up with crazy-shaped nails that were so pointy I could poke someone. Then I went to a salon that was "the" place to go to and spent $43 (including tip, I still remember this 5 years later) and it was awful. The only time I had great looking hands was when I went home to Boston. Fast forward to this week: I did not have time for a much-needed manicure before heading to DC for the day, so after looking on Yelp and thinking I would take one more chance on a DC manicure, I called Celadon and asked if there was any way I could get an appointment for late-day the NEXT DAY? I was told yes, that would be great. The receptionist was really nice and that made me feel good. Emma was ready even before my 4:30 appointment, although I was quite happy to just be sitting and reading a magazine. My nails look FANTASTIC - just a sheer pink - and I could not have been happier! I even got a little goody bag to take with me of samples, and who doesn't love that??? I was in town for an interview, so I will either be moving back soon - in which case, Emma will be my new manicurist - or I will just remain a DC visitor at this time (and will call for Emma whenever I am in town!). Interesting. My friend and I had the exact same thing done - wash and blow dry with some simple curls. She was charged $60 (which was expected) and then I was charged $20 extra for some curls that were OKAY. But we had THE EXACT SAME SERVICE DONE. So why the extra charge?? Honestly, it's good my friend wasn't charged the extra $20 because the stylist didn't even finish curling her hair! Overpriced and horrible service. Would not recommend this place at all. There is only ONE Nail tech in the place. She's as nice as can be BUT people must realize - when you are late for your appointment you push EVERYONE else's appointment back. It's not fair to the technician or the patrons that arrive AFTER the late person. I got a Shellac manicure. It was quick, fast and painless BUT I had to wait 15 minutes after my scheduled time (2pm) because the person at 12pm was late. They really need to get another person to do nails. It's been like this for years. My sister actually warned me but I wanted to try a new place since my former place no longer uses the nail polish that I have grown to love (Shellac or OPI). The tech gets a raving review - the process of the wait gets a bad review. No amount of free cookies, lemon water, cucumber water or hot drinks would make me a happy camper. read more

Emma gives GREAT manicures! ($25) She greeted me promptly at the start of my appointment and began "pretty-ing" my hands right away. She took her time with my hands and I didn't feel that she was rushing. I also LOVED that there were no chemical smells. Her workstation was tidy and all of her tools were sanitized (or at least still in the original packaging). Professional staff. Clean set up. Relaxed atmosphere. Inside voices. Plenty of products to choose from. Many of the guests seemed to be regulars, which is always a good sign. A very elite crowd, I might add. I've decided to treat myself to bi-weekly "just because..." manicures. I really felt pampered during my entire visit. This is a LONG overdue review - funny how easy it is to rely on Yelp but get lazy about input. Anyhow, I've been a Celadon client for nearly as long as it has been open. As life changes took me away from D.C., I still manage to get here for regular care. Jacqueline has been my esthetician forever and her skincare genius extends beyond facials to other modalities and tailored product recommendations. A brow shaping followed by a relaxing facial - soft lighting and calming sounds, heated mitts on my hands - is heavenly. Non-strip waxing is worth every penny and Jacqui makes the experience as easy as possible. She's talented and enthusiastic about her work and I always come away feeling that she's really interested in my wellbeing. I swear I look younger because of her. If you can get in to see her, DO IT. My heart broke when Miguel left (a decade ago?) but I quickly grew to love Daniel, who introduced me to color. Then when HE left, I thought I'd never love again ... but ... Jeremey. He's simply brilliant! He spent time getting to know me and my lifestyle first. Never have I received more compliments on my hair! Shape, movement, natural but vibrant color ... I get excited before each appointment wondering what he might suggest as the seasons change, knowing he will keep me current stylistically as well as taking advantage of the best techniques and products. I really need to spend more time with Sandra, who is every bit the miracle worker I heard about. Her hands are magical and can gently but firmly ferret out the most intractable knots. After a few sessions with her, my hips had increased range of motion and the tension between my shoulders was gone. I have spent a lot of time in physical therapy and I think her massages are easily as therapeutic. The space is light and welcoming, the front staff is professional and personable (shout-out to manager Melissa, who always makes me feel like a friend) and a shampoo and conditioning is blissful on its own. Product selection is first rate (hair, skin, makeup) and it's my go-to boutique for super cute accessories and candles at Christmas or whenever I'm looking for a special gift. What I love is that Judith has put together a salon with people who really care about client satisfaction. Occasional loyal client appreciation gifts are unexpected but thoughtful - a gift card, handpicked products, travel-sized kits. I was very surprised about my experience here based on the reviews. The front desk was very friendly and the salon itself is lovely. But, for me, that is where nice experience ended. I came in for a manicure and my manicurist seemed annoyed that I had gel on (no one asked me if I had gel when I booked the appointment). She seemed to rush through my appointment and, in the end, my nails were not even (meaning she did not file them all to the same length). There was no designated place to dry my nails nor a light/fan to help dry them. Several of my nails chipped the very next day. After paying $37 for a regular manicure, I would expect much more from this salon. read more

I wish Celadon lived up to its potential. When you step inside what was once a peaceful interior you are now assaulted by sparkly hair clips, purses, jewelry, etc. strewn everywhere. When you're able to tear your eyes away from the sparkles you check in at the desk and they sit you down. They are supposed to offer you a drink but it's only happened to me once. Then you are taken to the back room for a shampoo. INSIDER TIP: tell them you *really* love getting your hair washed and they will double the length of your shampoo. I stopped going here because the two stylists I tried multiple times each did not give me the haircut I requested and would come up with reasons not to give me these cuts. (I promptly tried a stylist at another salon and they gave me the exact haircut I had wanted and for half the price). As others have said before, a ladies haircut is $90 and I believe it's $65 for men. I've also had a facial here. It was a fairly relaxing experience AT FIRST - they put you in a room with heated bed and aromatherapy, then proceed to give a nice massage of shoulders, arms, face. Then they begin with the products on your face. Here is where I ran into trouble. I have sensitive skin, and warned the aesthetician of the same. She couldn't have cared less apparently because when I left my face was a mess, irritated and I had marks for weeks from her trying to squeeze my face so hard. What a nightmare. Daniel cuts my hair. I've only just started going here because I followed him over from his old salon (Salon Bleu in Tyson's Corner). I'm a Daniel groupie and the star rating is based primarily on the haircuts he's given me. I took off one star because this place is a little more expensive than Salon Bleu and your haircut doesn't come with a free DC magazine and cappuccino/bottled water/tea/snacks like it did there. First, you have to read my Bumble & Bumble review. Unlike the stylist that I went to there, Daniel listens. I never really go to the salon and ask for the same thing I had last month; my haircut is constantly changing. When I walk into a salon, I know exactly how I want my hair to look when I walk out, so it's really important to me that whoever is cutting my hair knows what I want... Daniel does. Celadon is very close to my work, so for the past year I have gotten all of my waxing and lash-tinting done there. The only reason I continued to go back after the first is because I could run over on my lunch break. The salon itself is very soothing, clean, and pristine. If you are looking for great beauty products, make up, or even purses, then Celadon will make you a happy gal. However, the service prices at this salon are absolutely outrageous. $40 for a lash tint, upwards of $60 for a bikini wax. Seriously, that is just too rich for my blood. Most of my co-workers no longer go here for spa services after Bang opened up at the Verizon Center. A co-worker got a massage here, and said it was not worth the price. She also got her hair cut and dyed, and swore the stylist did not listen to what she wanted. To Celadon's credit, she looked great anyways, but the whole production cost $300 after highlights and god knows what else. It wasn't THAT great of a hair cut!! If you aren't on a budget, sure, treat yourself to Celadon. It has a lot of services and options that a lower priced salon can't give. However, if you are on a tighter budget like me, go somewhere else! The only reason I am giving this place three stars is because every service has looked great. Michael Henderson is the best!!! I was referred to Michael Henderson / Celadon by a friend to get a curly Deva cut. I went for a consultation and was greeted by a wonderful friendly staff. The staff made me feel very welcome and comfortable while I waited for Michael. Once I was introduced to Michael, he immediately ushered me to his station for a consultation. After asking what I was looking for, going through the texture of my hair and showing me what could give my fine curly 3b hair volume and lift, I was sure he could do the job. I made an appointment and looked forward to working with Michael. During my appointment, Michael worked meticulously with my hair, making sure I achieve the perfect shape and volume. He was very detailed and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. After a wash and condition, I was ready to go with a beautiful cut that highlighted my curl pattern. I have received many compliments since my cut and I am definitely going back for color. I would recommend Michael for all naturals as we are constantly searching for stylists that can cut curly hair. read more

So I really want to like Celadon, but I don't. It's a block from my office and I've been twice, once for a haircut ($85 plus tip) and once for a blowout ($55 + tip) before a party. For a $100 hair cut, I expected more from Celadon. Yes the salon is very pretty and they have a lot of nice products and jewelry and things, but it might be nice if they had a little less product and more than one small settee to sit on while waiting. I can't help but compare the experience to one that is almost half the price at Andre Chreky, near my old office. Hair cuts there start at $60 and there's plenty of space to sit and wait and read magazines. There's a plate of cookies sitting out and the staff offers to make you coffee. No, these things have nothing to do with the quality of the haircut, but the thing was my Celadon haircut was nothing special. I don't even remember the name of the guy that cut my hair. I was literally in and out within 40 minutes. To be fair, I can see that for the law firm saturated area, getting in and out in the least amount of time would be a real selling point for a salon. This is quite evident by the number of people furiously Blackberrying during their haircuts. For me, $100 for a haircut is more of a luxury and I've found I can get more for my money elsewhere. read more

If you are looking for some pampering or want to treat someone else, this is your place! I got the apple and paprika facial recently here and was so happy with the experience. Susan, my esthetician, was excellent. Susan customized the facial to my skin, asking me about my daily skin cleansing rituals, so that she could target specific areas of concern. She used a variety of creams and oils to moisturize my skin and took her time doing it. She also did some extractions, which ordinarily hurt my sensitive skin, but were not bad here at all. I had no idea that apple and paprika could have such rejuvenating benefits for skin. Cons: The salon is pricey. I was lucky enough to receive a gift card to this salon and spa and probably wouldn't have tried it at all without the extra nudge of a gift card to cover most of it. That said, I was so happy with the service that I would definitely go back or gift a service to a friend. New customers get twenty percent off of all products. The salon is also very convenient if you work in the metro center area as it is right across the street from Macy's. read more

Susan is a lovely person, concerned with her clients' comfort and achieving the desired results. She took her time and at the end I was so relaxed I could hardly get up and leave! In addition to thoroughly cleansing and moisturizing my face, she worked on my neck and my hands and arms. Daniel is the cat's meow... he's the bee's knees... he's fabulous... he's amazing. I followed Daniel to Celadon Spa from Salon Bleu... farther from where I lived, no free parking, city traffic... did that stop me?! Hells to the No! (Although, they are the reasons that this loses a star in my book, but... thus is city life). Daniel is the type of stylist that you can go to and say "I want a change, but I don't know what..." and he'll have a convo with you about what you like/don't like... and bingo bango... you've got hair to die for, other people are jealous of, and they say "WHERE did you get your hair done?!" aaaaand if you like them, you tell them. ;-) Seriously though... I have naturally "dirty blonde" hair (a.k.a. too light to be light brown, and too dark to be dark blonde), and I also have natural bronze-ish stands in it. It's baby fine, has NO body what-so-ever. I had been coloring my hair lighter with highlights, but then went to Germany and didn't trust any of the Euro stylists who couldn't speak English... so by the time Daniel got his hands on me, I was basically a hair virgin again. He evened out my color, we chose to stay blonde for awhile... until one day... I decided to go RED. A double process, and some highlights later, I was multi shades of red and LOV-ING IT! I loved it so much that Daniel and I played around with the different shades of red and highlighting for another year. I have since moved to Boston, but did that stop me from going to Daniel... NO! I went to him for the next three times of needing to get my hair done. That's right... I went from BOSTON TO DC to get my hair done (and visited with the fam/friends still in the area). I've now found a stylist in Boston, although I do miss my Daniel. Ladies... he comes highly highly highly recommended to do your hair, and do it FABULOUSLY!!! :-D read more

Color didn't last. I came in with blonde hair and dark roots. I got two colors of low lights and when I left it looked light brown, with no roots. Two weeks later all the color was all gone (and yes, I use color safe salon-brand shampoo). Bummer because I paid over $300 for the color and a trim. I would recommend their facials - I got a deluxe facial there a few weeks ago, and I think they did a very nice job. read more

This is a good salon, but not great. Most of the hair styling area is really cramped; at some stations you are wedged into a corner by the back room. The front desk staff usually seems distracted and out of it, they don't really say much and mostly just take your money. The stylist I go to is great, and the prices reflect that. Not cheap here. Just be prepared for a sometimes cramped, less than comfortable environment while you have your hair colored or cut. read more

Celadon is a very nice spa/salon even though there are things that could be improved. But isn't that the case for every salon/spa in the city? The Good: haircuts are fast and beautiful (I have thick hair so this is a big plus), eyebrow waxes are good (not the best, but good), really great massages, the salon and spa areas are very clean, and they sell Bubble & Bumble products. Things to Know: they don't have an enclosed waiting area, they don't carry books with hairstyle images, can only tip in cash, shampooer is separate from hairdresser (so a separate tip), the bathrooms are small, and adding same day services is often hard to do. Overall, I love getting my haircut here but I wish it was a little less expensive so I could go more often. read more

My husband gave me a spa package) to have a spa day (facial, massage, makeup, hair styling) here. He gets five stars. It was weird scheduling the appointment though. I requested to break it up into two sessions, and that was denied. But when I found a day that would work for me to spend 4 hours there, it took some time to finalize as we had to line up all the staff. It could have been more coordinated. My appointment was at 11:30 on a Friday. I was spirited from room to room. Even though I ate in advance, I still got hungry as the day progressed. I would have appreciated some time to enjoy all of those cookies and tea that was placed out for guests instead of grabbing them on the go. Stomach rumbles during the massage was kind of distracting. It would have been nice to "relax" between sessions. Just note that this is a small salon. You can hear what's going on in the main room when you're in the back for facials/massages. It wasn't that big of a deal to me, but just FYI. My esthetician and massage therapist were great. (It's been a few months, so I don't remember their names anymore :( ) Michael, in particular, was fabulous. I was tired by the time it was his turn, so we did not have much of a conversation, but he was unobtrusive and styled my hair perfectly. It looked so beautiful! Would I go back? Yes. If I find myself in downtown DC. But not on a four hour stretch. The space is too small for a "spa-like" feel, where you would feel comfortable spending half a day. I hope they will reconsider their policy on using gift certificates in one session. read more

I went in to use a gift card I had received over the holiday and was very disappointed by the services I received. The salon is very close to my law firm and I thought this would be a good way for me to give them a try and they could become my go to for my gel manicures. Nevertheless I definitely won't be returning after receiving a rush job from the manicurist. My cuticles were in bad shape after about a week, the gel started chipping, and I just felt she was not interested in engaging with me and making sure I was satisfied. I'm going to attribute it to a returning customer who was a pretty good tipper that my needs got brushed aside for. Too bad - I had high hopes for them. read more
