We had been hearing about Cedar recently and never knew it existed! We are only a few miles away and decided it was a good night to give it a try. The decor is very modern yet beach with ship-lack and cool lighting and comfortable seating. You can also sit outside! Our wait person was Belle and she was so helpful and bubbly. She gave us lots of awesome suggestions and walked us through the specials and the "best of the best" menu items after telling us everything is good--and her recommendations were spot on! We chose a margarita and a prickly pear cocktail to start. The drinks actually have decent amounts of alcohol and were excellent. We decide to try the clam chowder (it was cold out!) and it was chock full of clams, excellent spice and not heavy. Next we had the arugula and mango shrimp, also fresh and excellent. Last we had the paella and it was the bomb! It was loaded with seafood and fresh vegetables and excellent/tasty rice. We have been to Spain on two occasions and this was way up there! My spouse and I agreed that it was the best paella we have had in the states. We wanted dessert but there was no way we were going to be able tonight, but definitely next time. Arrived at 6pm sharp, had a nice dinner and after the last bite of dessert and sip of wine was told to leave the table as our time was up. At that time we had paid the bill and was getting ready to leave anyway... Was told by an older brunette hostess that the next guest were here for our tablefor their 8pm reservation... it was 7:45. We got there for our reservation at 5:25 for a 5:30 reservation. In spite of having 4 tables for two persons open they refused to seat us immediately. They finally did at ~ 5:40. We had drinks which were OK then ordered the Crab dip appetizer.. the amount of crab in it was minimal at best. I ordered the "Jumbo Lump" crab cakes. We ate at Cedar tonight which had been one of our favorite restaurants until now. Unfortunately it was due to the hostess - not the food or waitress - and we do not intend to go back. We arrived at 5:05 pm the restaurant a little early for a 5:15 pm reservation with my elderly parents. There was one table seated and others sitting at the bar which was full. The hostess told us that we would have to wait to be seated for about 10 minutes because she had 5:00 reservations she would need to seat when they arrived. I am not sure why she was unable to seat us at that time and what difference it made - the people who had the 5:00 pm reservation were not even there yet. 2 more groups came in - both with 5:15 pm reservations - and she told them the same thing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We all stood crowding the front entrance area while we all waited for her 5:00 pm reservations to arrive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were finally seated at 5:15 pm and the other 2 groups were seated right after. Now there were 4 tables seated and the people with the 5:00 reservation were still not there. She was not friendly, quite rude, and continued to tell people coming in the same thing - again making no sense. Last year I had made a reservation for 4 people and one of the people in the party could not go because they had become ill. When we arrived, she asked where our 4th was and I told her he had become ill and could not attend. She then told us that we should have changed the reservation and that they would need to charge us for the no show! I again explained he was sick and could not come at the last minute and that should have zero effect on the seating since a table for 3 is the same as one that seats 4 and we were not a "no show". She "let it slide" but still berated us for changing the number without calling. I gave it 2 stars because our waitress was awesome, and the food was good. However, the hostess ruined the night and I doubt we will be back which is unfortunate. The gentleman who owns the restaurant is great and it truly could have been a go to for us. read more

The hostess ignored me. She asked us to wait while she seated a family and then when she returned, she seated somebody that walked in after us. The seasonal vegetables have been broccoli and sliced carrots every time I've been in there. I don't know if they have something else but it seemed like frozen broccoli from a bag and we were very disappointed. There are so many good seasonal vegetables at the beach! First: they don't take same-day reservations and don't answer the phone after 4:30, though I can confirm that they will call you back the next day, as they claim in their voicemail message. I wish they did take same-day reservations and answered their phone after 4:30, as it was clear that there were several slots open the night we visited. We waited in the car for about 1 hour to be seated. Thankfully, the food was excellent. We were saving room for dessert, so we started with our mains. I ordered the baked stuffed shrimp, which were delicious. They give you four, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it was plenty, as they were overflowing with seafood. They came with orzo, rice, and tender, cooked broccoli and carrots. (I got rice because they didn't have much orzo left.) All had good flavor that complemented the shrimp well. For dessert, I got the mascarpone raspberry, lemon cake, which the server recommended as her favorite dessert at Cedar, and I can see why! I reached my stomach's limit about halfway through the cake, but it was so good, I had to finish it there and then. I paid for it the rest of the night and the next day, but it was worth it (though next time, I'll just get the cake to go). It has a preppy/boat shoe-wearing vibe, so kind of upscale but also relaxed. Prices are a bit more expensive than other comparable casual restaurants, but the food is worth it. Brought some friends to Cedar for the first time this past week so obviously wanted to have, and expected to have, a great experience given the reviews. Having mistakenly set some expectations for our group we felt terrible that when we finally ordered we were told that the 1 vegetarian dish was not available to our vegan guest. We then sat at our table for literally 50 minutes before any of our appetizers appeared and were a little embarrassed that they felt it necessary to charge us just to have bread to hold us over while we waited. This was our first visit to Cedar....it was wonderful. Great ambiance - beachy and comfortable. The food was exceptional. The crab dip was great with large chunks of lump crab. The Chesapeake Chicken was melt-in-your mouth delicious. The Paella was the best I have ever had. Loaded with mussels, jumbo shrimp, chicken, jumbo scallops and sausage with rice simmered in a delicious seafood stock. Extensive drink menu and moderately priced wines. Service was perfect. This is a gem tucked away in Ocean View. But just a 20-minute, scenic drive from Rehoboth. This is one of the very best restaurants in the Rehoboth/Bethany area. This will be a regular stop for us. This place rocks, how I never knew about this restaurant I don't know. I've been there twice in two weeks. Next time I'm ordering the paella. Some of the dinners said it was delish and it smelled heavenly when I was close to others enjoying it. The place is small and kind of pricey but worth it. The fresh fish, and scallops were outstanding as well as some of the appetizers. Small bar area, super nice bartender, wait staff and hostess. This restaurant is heavy on the seafood side with a Latin flair which I absolutely love. The only thing I would not order again is the crab dip, too much mayo for my liking and the chocolate tres leche cake was not great. The brie appetizer is the best I've ever had anywhere it's enough for 2-3 people to share. I love this restaurant and will continue to recommend and frequent it when I want to splurge. We ate at this restaurant for dinner recently and we were not impressed. Our waitress and table service was great. The food was not great. A paella we ordered had a horrible and off tasting sausage that we were told was chorizo and was nothing like any Spanish chorizo I have had in great paellas and the rice preparation was not like any paella. Sloppy and gloppy. Water in two of the glasses at our table were yellow tinged and tasted like there was a cleaning solvent in the water. Our waitress was attentive and spoke to the kitchen and management about the problems we had with our dinner and they she had the paella dish reduced in price by 20 dollars. No manager or chef ever came to our table to check in with us and seemed unconcerned. This left us with the impression that they didn't care. Vegetables (broccoli w carrots) sides were to the point of being overcooked and mushy. The ahi tuna and salmon tasted good and were cooked as ordered but the presentation of the plates was underwhelming for the cost. Desserts were the most impressive part of the meal. read more

Busy evening indoors and out but service was attentive, food delicious and served at a good pace. Started with honey and almond brie appetizer served with nice fresh fruit and interesting crackers. Too much for 2 to finish. Had the stuffed shrimp, and teriyaki salmon, both excellent. Generous servings of both entrees. Served with nicely steamed vegetables and a delicious lemon parmesan orzo. Ended with the peanut butter pie, and cheesecake with raspberry sauce, both delicious. We had not been here since the pandemic but we will definitely be returning this summer. My boyfriend and I came here Friday night, sat at the bar, and we started with some drinks and Conch fritters (they were so good that I forgot to snap a pic!) I had the Ahi Tuna as my meal, and my boyfriend got the Paella. Amazing is an understatement, it was the perfect portion and everything was super fresh... Our new favorite! Great vibe, very good drink menu, and nice selection of appetizers and entrees. Loved the Jerk Shrimp. The chicken special was excellent: tender baked chicken breast served over saffron rice with fresh vegetables (broccoli, peppers, onions, zucchini, eggplant, mushrooms,tomatoes) topped with red pepper tomato soup. We were excited to eat here but had a few pretty big disappointments. Margarita was good and fried tomatoes were good, except for the red sauce that made them soggy. Their hamburger was burnt and crab dip was too fishy tasting for us. Owners are supposedly present, but very slow to respond. We messaged twice on their facebook site only to be told they prefer to talk in person. Private customer feedback should be appreciated, but it wasn't. The server returned within five minutes to get our order, and when we mentioned we weren't ready to order, she then told us we had only an hour more for our dining experience because they have a reservation coming in after us. The restaurant was not full when we were there, and there were three or four empty tables, which were still empty when we left when our hour was up. We had a large party - 11 people total. We had aracini (rice balls) - wonderful flavor in the balls and sauce, Brie with fruit - generous with the fruit and the Brie was creamy and smooth, crab bruschetta - nice portion of crab, avocado toast - delicious and generous portion. The appetizers were amazing!! The aracini was a true hit, but all of the food was fresh and tasty. Some of us had salads - beet salad with goat cheese - very generous with the beets and the cheese, and Caesar salad. again, generous portions. Dinners - halibut, tuna, chicken carbonara with linguini, crab cakes, and salmon. The halibut and tuna were cooked perfectly - and very generous portions of the fish. Two people took home leftovers of the tuna! The crab cakes had no filler and were a perfect combination of crisp and crab. I was unhappy that my nephew got the chicken carbonara leftovers before I did!! We also had mixed drinks - the Champagne Super Nova was a special along with a peach margarita. The fruit (strawberry in the champagne super nova) and peach in the margarita was fresh purée, not a mix, and you could taste how much better it made the drinks. Little touches like the fresh fruit made everything amazing. Finally - the service - impeccable. Our glasses were never empty (including water glasses with the mixed drinks). We did not sit with dirty plates in front of us. We were not rushed through our meal. All of this on a Friday night when the restaurant was full. Other customers congratulated us on our celebration, and we ended up talking with quite a few other tables. All in all - amazing experience, food, and service.
