So I have traveled to cocktail bars across the country and even across the world. Cedar local stacks up with the best that I've been to. What an amazing, creative array of drinks. The bartenders are fast, inquisitive, and super helpful. And the Sriracha cashew candied jumbo wings. Oh my God, you have to get these. The ambience is fine, typical house music. Not too loud so you could still carry on a conversation. I can't wait to go back. Came here for happy hour with a group of about 12, we really enjoyed our time here! At 6pm on a Wednesday the bar was only about 50% full. The inside is set up like a classic bar, wooden walls and floors, with a long cement bar directly to the left with seating set up at the bar, and at a variety of black banquettes and bar tables. Total seating and standing room enough for 70-80 probably. Seems like they're set up to be mostly a bar/cocktail lounge though they also had a tight menu of American small bites, plates (like burgers, steak and pasta), and sides. Initially they seated us towards the front though moved us to the longer bar-height table in the back shortly after placing our drink orders. The drinks came out together within 10-15 minutes of ordering, then another few minutes later they brought out the appetizer/snacks orders: - Artichoke Dip $18.00: spinach, roasted garlic, parmesan cheese crostini. The bread pieces were perfectly crunchy, the artichoke spinach dip was a bit looser than I expected though I appreciated it bc sometimes it can be too thick and clunky. - Tempura Popcorn Shrimp $18.00: jumbo crispy fried shrimp, pickled B&G aïoli, lemon. Good flavor, not crispy, the tempura batter was soft pretty quickly after being set on the table. Sauce that came with it was tasty and had a spicy kick. - House Cut Fries $11.00: tender & crispy, with ketchup & mayo. The fries were decent, texture wasn't necessarily consistent on all pieces though overall ok. - Parmed Up Fries with Truffle Aioli $14.00: with grated Parmesan on top, and truffle aioli on point. - Warm Pretzel $?: served buttered with Dijon mustard and gherkins. Soft and fresh. - Molé Chicken Nachos $22.00: pepper jack cheese, jalapeño, guacamole. I didn't try these though looked good when they arrived to the table. - Caipirinha $18: this was my drink and it was decent. I don't have a sweet tooth though personally thought it could be just a tad sweeter, and a bit more muddled lime. I stopped by Cedar Local for a drink with my friend Vanessa S. while we waited for a spot at Overstory across the street. It was a cozy, attractive bar, busy at 6:00 on a Tuesday, but not so busy that we couldn't get a table. There was a strong weeknight Financial District vibe. Business casual, no hipsters, quite white. Service was friendly enough, but slow. I got the sense that the wait staff was spread thin, tending to several big tables at a time. It took a while for us to order and get our drinks. There was an annoying thing with a QR code that didn't work, and a delay before we got our physical menus. The drinks were great. I got the Drifter, an easy tropical cocktail with Dickel Rye, passionfruit liquor, passionfruit purée, lemon, agave, egg white, and lavender bitters. Vanessa's Perro del Diablo was good, too, a tart and spicy drink with jalapeño-infused tequila, lime, passionfruit, coco cream, and jalapeño. (Not all the drinks have passionfruit, by the way, but the ones that do are tasty.) We stayed for less than an hour, but it was a pleasant visit, and I wouldn't have minded another round if we'd had the time. Went for dinner and drinks. The service was good. Tried the Mole Nachos, the chicken was great, overall very good. The drinks were high quality. Also got the chicken sandwich, which was somewhat plain, but the fries were good. Only criticism was it was very loud in the bar, and they turned the lights so low it was near complete darkness except for the Christmas lights and candles on the tables. I am so enamored with Cedar Local, I had to update my review. Actually, visiting a business a few times allows an individual to form a solid opinion. My opinion has not changed about Cedar Local. It is fantastic and after bragging about it to my friend, she was up for visiting a couple nights ago. I got there first. Luckily I did because it was entirely filled a short while later. Our waitress was very attentive (maybe too much as she asked every 20 minutes or so if we were doing okay) and offered some suggestions. Here's a promise---Cedar Local serves some of the best cocktails--ever. Their menu is mind boggling. They offer special cocktails, old and new money cocktails and finally traditional ones (make sure to Google before selecting because there isn't a description for this category). Think Brown Derby (huh?) and Pimm's Cup. By the way, the waitress didn't know either. Rest assured beer and wine lovers, Cedar Local has much to offer My friend and I fell in love with the Papi Verde cocktail. Jalapeno infused Mezcal with cucumber and herbs. Refreshing, very spicy, delicious and green! But Cedar Local also has a wonderful food menu. We selected: *fried calamari because who doesn't love the decadent ringlets of squid accompanied with a side sauce? *the mushroom flatbread. Absolutely, hands down the best flatbread (not pizza) I've had. Loaded with mushrooms, cheese and truffle oil. Wowza factor *tuna poke taquitos. I ate the entire serving because my friend was full. Six mini tacos filled with the raw stuff and combined with garnishes. Soooo good. A few hours later, we dropped a significant amount of dinero (money) while enjoying the atmosphere, music and one another's company. Way to go Cedar Local--you certainly know how to host!! I work in FiDi and Cedar Local is an after work happy hour favorite! Serving crafty cocktails and small bites, Cedar Local is a staple on a Thursday or Friday evening when my coworkers and I start to get thirsty. The drinks are scrumptious (one of my coworkers is OBSESSED with the Whiskey Rebellion and I like it too). The bartenders and waitstaff are also fairly attentive and friendly. The one downside (which is probably an upside for the bar) is the place is small and the secret is out, so it gets pretty packed. That won't stop us, though! My work friends and I will keep coming back for sure. read more

When I went last week, there was a small crowd & ppl occupying the outdoor seating. I've never had a full meal prior to this night and usually stick to the herb fries. I love Cedar Local. It's in an unexpected location in FiDi and has a unique feel and vibe to it. Once you step in, you forget you're in the FiDi neighborhood (which I believe is a good thing). Drinks are on point. All delicious and well flavored/balanced. Food is also great. They have a really nice menu that you again would not expect from a bar in this area. Food and drinks are so good---you can really spend your whole night here. One note, it's a popular place for company happy hours so expect some of the space to be taken up by those types of reservations. I always make my own reservation just to make sure we get a table. I had saved Cedar Local in my bookmarks some time ago and when I finally got to go I highly enjoyed myself. Friendly staff and the artichoke dip was my personal favorite. Love the lighting and overall atmosphere. My only negative was there was not a lot of choices for someone who doesn't drink alcohol that maybe wanted a non alcoholic version of a drink like a mocktail but it also could of been I just was not presented with those options that day from my specific server. So I saw this place, and I said let me give a try. when I got there, the waiter seem friendly, he asked us, take out or dine in. We decided to dine in, he said we could sit outside, which we did. Took the waiter for a while to come take our order, I could say, not much service or there's no service at all. The food I would give 4 stars, minus 1 star for no service. Surprising little find! I stumbled upon this bar around 4pm on a weekday. The bar was full but we were able to grab 2 seats right away. The interior was nice. It looked like a good place for a date or a casual hangout. The bartenders were not pretentious and highly skilled. The menu had a good list of classic cocktails which were pricey but totally worth it. We had few that were perfectly made. I'm happy to find a bar where I feel comfortable in ordering the basics! I also had their special cocktail made with Elijah Craig Burbon infused with fig, bitters and a pistachio macadamia nut rim. I typically don't like Old Fashioned but this might be my favorite drink of the year. It was balanced, slightly sweet and nutty. Some of my colleagues and I stopped by here for drinks and food after a work meeting. It was only a couple of blocks from where we were and after a quick skim of their Yelp page it seemed like a good place to decompress. When we arrived there was a sign on the door saying they would be opening at 4pm. Since it was only a few minutes until the hour we waited outside - but then at a few minutes past 4 we noticed there were actually people inside. We peeked our head in to ask if they were open which they said yes to - so we went in. Once inside we were told they were in the process of changing their menu and that it was best not to sit directly at the bar (not sure of the connection); there were 10 of us though so it actually worked better for us to sit at some high tops. The space isn't too large, but there's a nice mix of tables and high tops in addition to the bar. The aesthetics are kind of modern and clean but I felt the decor fell victim to being a little bland and generic. Anyway, it wasn't long after we settled that we were given menus. We ordered a round as well as some nachos and fries. The drink was pretty good, but they took a little longer than expected to come out - plus they didn't come out all at once. Again, we were told that because of a menu change the drinks would take longer than usual. The nachos and fries were fine - pretty tasty but nothing too outstanding. Overall we had 3 rounds, two orders fries, and two orders of nachos. I don't like giving business low stars, but I found too many missteps to give Cedar Local anything higher than a 2. The whole not being able to sit at the bar confused me (especially seeing other people sit there after we arrived), and the service could have been better. Also, we asked for water only to have it be placed at the end of the bar for us to grab from rather than being served directly to the high tops. Lastly, we ordered chilled shots which were pretty much lukewarm. These things combined with the generic food and decor lands my rating where it is. Reading the other reviews, it's possible I came at an off time since most people really enjoy this place. On that note, I would be open to returning to Cedar Local for another try. read more

Cedar local was a cute taproom-looking bar with a kitchen attached. We came here last night as part of the Tippler tour. I love when they give you choices to redeem a cocktail to your liking! We went with the Perro del Diablo and the Kinder Punsch. The Kinder Punsch was perfect because it comes warm, and spiced up to the max! I'm not exactly sure what kind of alcohol they put it in it but it meshed well with the chasers. The Perro del Diablo was incredibly tart and had minimal sweeteners in it but it's a good choice if you're watching your diet and still want to imbibe. The atmosphere in here was low key and chill. The bartenders are quick and attentive. I would definitely return to explore their food menu and Old Money/New Money cocktails! read more

This is the only bar in my opinion worth going to in FiDi. They got it down from fantastic cocktails, great food, ambiance and service. And they are priced right. Their staff are trained mixologists (so yes may take slightly longer for drinks on the busiest nights) but they make some of the best drinks Ive ever had. I often stop by just to grab dinner in the neighborhood. One of the best food options down here. It is NOT your typical bar food. Their chef is insanely talented. The food is a must try. Worst service I have EVER received. Avoid at all costs. The food is great, the drinks are good as well. The issue is the bartender that i honestly believe must have a personality problem. He was rude, attempted to add an extra bogus charge and when caught he got so mad that he decided to create a hostile environment. This place is definitely NOT SAFE. After we left, the bartender was so mad that while we were waiting for our ride a block away he showed up again looking for trouble. The bartender is a walking problem/liability. read more

Went here on a recommendation from a friend. This is a hidden gem! You won't stumble across this place walking down the street. Ask for Carlos the bartender. His mezcal version of an old fashioned is amazing. Besides that, they have a creative drink menu. The food was on point. Tuna tacos, calamari, pork belly sliders.....fresh, delicious shareable plates. It was very crowded with the tables close together but we still felt like our conversation was private/quiet. I was told that the place is part of a restaurant group but their website doesn't mention that at all.
