Cute bar! There's a nice view of downtown, with stool, bar or couch seats. I would have easily missed this place if my friends didn't point out its location at the top of the hotel. Lots of fun activities, and I saw some people studying here too lol We got the Disco Ball, which was perfect to split amongst 6 people. I came to Recreation Bar and was pleasantly surprised by how friendly and accommodating the staff were. I received service from Majed and he provided excellent service. The food was okay, but the overall experience made it worthwhile. Being able to enjoy quality time with friends and family while having fun is definitely a reason to visit. Recreation feels like an arcade, with table games and a basketball court, which adds to the atmosphere. I thought it was really cool to chat and play games while having brunch and a few drinks. The brunch menu prices are pretty reasonable. I came for brunch and would definitely return to try the dinner menu. The only thing I would suggest is perhaps adding a dessert to the menu for someone who likes to celebrate occasions with something sweet. read more

Came here for happy hour. It is part of the Moxy downtown hotel. When walking into the hotel there was a long check in line and no one to operate the elevators, so we had to jump in with a guest to get to the establishment. We were immediately seated by our hostess and given menus , however the wait service was pretty poor. We had to wait for our waiter for an extended time period and then he just disappeared after our first drink which led us to have to get up from our table to go to the bar for service. One of the bartenders asked me what drink I would like and then pretended to look for it and never came back. Thankfully his colleague came to take my order and I was served. The space itself it large and nice. It feels like a rooftop due to the ceiling being one big skylight. They offer various games to play such as skeeball and foozeball which are free of charge. read more

I really enjoy Recreation's aesthetic, music, and drinks, but the food is a bit underwhelming and everything is overvalued. I highly recommend going during Happy Hour and ordering off that menu. During my last visit I had the spicy crispy salmon, margherita pizzetta and an 8-Bit. The salmon was just okay but the pizzetta was delicious. The drink was good but overpriced. Throughout my time there the staff was lovely so I wouldn't write this place off completely. Nice ambiance; it's basically this young people (as I feel I'm "old" now) bar inside the Moxy hotel. Since my work colleagues and I were staying here for a work onsite, we were here frequently. I am not sure if they have food but my colleague brought pizza around the corner and no one cared. Loved having the skeeball there (free) also. There's a good amount of inside seating w/a DJ. Bartenders are fairly attentive; I just ordered tap beer so can't really say anything about the cocktails, but my coworkers seemed to like them. You basically are forced to this bar from the lobby to get to the next set of elevators to take you to the rooms upstairs, which I'm sure is intentional. But either way -- fun atmosphere and good spot to gather your colleagues/friends with if you're all staying in the same place. read more

DO NOT GO HERE FOR FOOD/BRUNCH. if you want to come for drinks, that's great. head to the bar and order directly from the bartender. got a PULSD brunch deal here. you're supposed to get a martini or mimosa tower. 1) our food arrived before our drinks. 2) we finished our food even before the drinks came out. 3) table service is very very slow. also no host/hostess 4) there was inconsistency with the food portion. some people received large portions while other entrees looked like snacks. none of the food stood out. the waffles in the chicken and waffles were very dry. the tostada is very small. brunch pizza was meh. friend did inhale his pulled pork sandwich however and my 2 eggs with breakfast meats and tots were decent/standard. the establishment said they didnt have one ingredient to make the espresso martinis so we had to order something else and thats what caused the "delay." note that the place was empty on a saturday morning. but the martinis that did arrive were tiny. and the mimosa tree wasnt a tree. it was in a beer tower. overall, would not eat here again let alone use a pulsd for it. there are better options. we just chose this one because it was close to the hotel my friends were staying at. i will say that this spot has potential. theres a basketball court in the back, skeeball, and some table games. read more

I think you need to have the right expectation for this bar, because the high prices will keep some people away, so don't be surprised if it's not full. For what it does offer, drinks, bites, and even a few games, you'll get it. For what it's worth, I put my backpack on a sofa and left it there all evening. Try that at another bar. I can't speak to the service except that I had a good experience with my bartender, Creg. I have him an unusual order and he tried to accommodate me, but I realized it wasn't that important and modified it just a bit to make his job easier (and my drink come quicker). It is a quiet spot during the daytime, but it becomes a party at night during the weekends. I visited Recreation a few times because I was staying at the Moxy. Their menu is not big, but they have a few creative cocktails that pair with different board games or arcade games. I tried one of the cocktails and some of the flatbreads, and they were okay. The staff was nice, but the service was on the slower side. Recreation's standouts are its ambiance and vibe. It is a fun place to hang out with friends or meet new people, but better food and drinks can be found elsewhere. We came here for a friend's birthday and had an amazing time. Recreation is located on top of the Moxy Hotel in the financial district in NYC. Everything is set up as a giant game room for guests to enjoy. You have video games, skeet ball, board games, and my favorite a basketball court. You can spread out through the area and play games at your leisure. Food and drink prices were typical downtown prices. You can expect to pay around $18 for a cocktail here. It was crowded on a Wednesday afternoon with people finishing up work and hanging out. The group ordered several different options so you can try one of everything. I would come back here again for a group outing or a date. The only con I had was the high prices but other than that this is a great place to hang out. read more

So I'm giving it three because well, there's good and not so good. Nice space, love the couches, good vibe, Josh the bartender is awesome. Not so good is they are out of a lot of stuff behind the bar. Could not order a Stella, could not get a beer glass because they had none available. The glasses all go with each drink, which I think holds things up at the bar. No sprite, and a number of other things. So my complaints are more operational. Oh and while those tables for whatever those games are in the side, and the skeeball are cool, they do take up a lot of space and makes it for an odd-sized, squished event space and you have to keep walking around this game table. Just don't know if there's a better place for it. But I like the concept. Had a nice time otherwise and have been here for several after work official and unofficial drinks, events, etc. Always easy to get to. Space is nice and people are friendly. This was the first location I chose to go to in the new year and I was highly disappointed. I went with a group of coworkers for our monthly happy hour and immediately after coming off the elevator the staff member greeted us with a nasty attitude. This is a location my coworkers frequent as it is near our workplace. This is a bar as referenced on their website, so like most bars we walked in without a reservation. Upon entry the place was fairly empty. Aside from our party there were 7 people inside including a child. So again the place was super empty and we had a group of 18-20 and it remained empty for the duration of our stay. At no point were there more than 10 people other than our group in the bar during the time we were there. The waiters gave us conflicting information on where we could order and were rude when we asked for clarity. They pointed at us the entire time we were in the establishment and were speaking about us in earshot of us. The manager realized the poor service and offered complimentary shots as way to make up for the subpar service. Two flatbread pizzas were brought out near the end of our time there, instead of the shots and when the waitress placed the food (the food we dis not order) on the table she said "can you say thank you" . We decided to leave at that point and again due to conflicting information there was another issue. The waitress placed all the items on 3 checks when the manager stated the bills can be spilt up as many times as we'd like. The waitress again told us she wouldn't do it and we have to wait for the manager so she can confirm. Once the manager told her we could split the bill more than 3 ways she refused to come back and split the bill, instead the manager came over to apologize for the continued inconvenience. We ultimately placed all the orders on one card. While we were trying to address the mixup we informed the manager and the waitress that she had a nasty attitude for the entirety of our time. She pretended she didn't know what we were talking about and an argument ensued. We never had an issue before but then again she has never been our waitress. Safe to say we will never be back. read more

Yes! this bar is very touristy place, that is why one of the bartender just work like a brat and didn't care about being nice to customers. Rude and trashy service that what I can describe. Because most customers won't go back and enjoy their vacation for a short period of time. The bar is at 3 level, has cool decoration, like old radio and books, high ceiling, but not good view because the floor is so low and all buildings around are so tall. This place was great! This place had a very fun and upbeat vibe to it, but it was chill at the same time. They had a DJ going 2 out of the 3 nights me and my group were there too so that was a plus. The drinks were good, very reasonably priced -- to top it off, I want to give a shout out to Tyler and Tiara. Man their hospitality and service was just so good, both of them really made our time there worth it that we had to come back 2 more nights after the first time. They had two skee ball machines one was out of order, one Pac-Man table for two people, a giant connect four, & a room open to all to play basketball. Once you get up from your table you lose it. Now that's a heck of an experience. The bar is very hip. The bartenders were super busy but very nice to us. The drinks are definitely on the pricey end. The most recent time I came here the waiter didn't offer me the itemized bill until after I paid... where I saw they'd already added auto gratuity. So I double paid tip. I was closing the tab for several people (they just put it on my tab for ease of tracking for the waiter since he said we couldn't have separate tabs.. which is also weird for a bar, but we were sitting at the table, so I didn't argue it). I didn't really have a good mental check point of what the bill should be, so he told me the amount and I paid it. Upon handing him my signed receipt (with gratuity added bc of course I'd tip), he offered me the itemized receipt which he had readily available, it's not like a reprint was needed later. So he just hid it until I was committed to the tip. At which point I realized they'd already included gratuity in my original total. But I'd just handed him my signed receipt with tip... so that was shady. I didn't want to ask for it back because I already felt uncomfortable with the way he was interacting with me while I was paying. Felt creepy and I just wanted to exit. I wasn't sure how to review this establishment so I'm just gonna share this experience, when we walk in the hotel host was extremely rude if u want the video i wont mind to share , it was not welcoming or polite just rude , so we went straight to the top floor of the hotel . It is a nice hotel we sat at the bar and ordered off the menu we went for happy hour after museum hopping . I ordered a whiskey sour i had 3 and ect , we did end up drinking and playing a little basketball the mood changed . We got the bill and the bartender said that my drinks was not off the happy hour menu and yes whiskey was on the menu he made it completely different I did not know (he used egg white and I don't eat eggs I'm a pescatarian) keep in mind i asked for whisky and sour mix light ice that's my drink. There is no doubt in my mind that the staff there regularly phones it in bc they don't care about quality nyc service since it's an overpriced chain hotel bar posing as a wannabe eclectic nyc boutique hotel.
