The only reason I did not give a full 5 stars is because it took awhile to get the check, which is understandable since it appears that the same staff are juggling everything from checking in people for reservations, taking orders, wiping down tables and bringing out food. The food was excellent and will definitely be coming back for more. The crispy croissant beignet cubes were a hit. They came out fresh and hot. At first sight these babies don't look like a lot but they were perfection and very filling when split among 3. read more

This place is super classy, and the brunch is delicious! This old school seminary turned hotel and restaurant has great vibes and the awesome trails all around. Truly feels like you stepped into someplace magical. The French toast with berries and mascarpone was amazing--would get that again! Their Bloody Mary also has chipotle in it which was a great twist! read more

Setting is beautiful, service is great too,but the food from the brunch menu, at least the one I ordered: egg custard with smoked salmon and potatoes waffles was below average, my husband ordered wayu burger was mostly good but some parts uncooked, but the French fries that came with the burger was excellent. House made croissant was soggy unfortunately. Overall if you avoid ordering the croissant and the smoked salmon, it could be a great experience. read more

We went for breakfast after we reviewed menus on the website. However when we got there, menu was different and there's only three entries, granola, yogurt and croissant sandwiches with bacon and egg only. Four of us had coffee and croissant sandwiches which cost us $110. Croissant sandwich had no side, no fruit - just eggs, bacon and croissant. We expected more variety based in their website menus - super disappointed. read more

A tribute to PNW seasonality and farm to table flavor. Having eaten at French Laundry and other 3 Michelin star restaurants, Chef Jason Wilson prepared for us one of the best meals we have ever had. The crudo was light, fresh, and full of flavor. The octopus was beautifully cooked with a spicy romesco and the beet carpaccio was a refreshing and immensely flavorful appetizer. The mains were filling and delicious as expected and the desserts (especially the Pavlova) were to die for. I would recommend this to anyone looking to celebrate a special occasion or a friday night. The ambiance, surrounding park, and food are worth the wait. read more

Absolutely amazing. My husband and I were BLOWN AWAY with how good the food and coffee was. We came for brunch and the first thing we noticed was how gorgeous and clean the restaurant was. We felt like we were in Paris! So pretty. The smoked salmon frittata is a must get, the egg was perfect! The chicken and waffles was also amazing. Cannot wait to come back!!! read more

Absolutely gorgeous resto in the renovated St Edward's Lodge - spectacular vibe. Brunch was fine. Not 2die4 for but they may be getting their kinks out. Their saving grace was the vegan Mango chia pudding and French toast - noteworthy and fresh. The brunch tails and espresso also decent and fresh juice options were divine. (Go for the hangover cure of pineapple, mango n turmeric) The spring pasta w corn n prosciutto was meh and the steak frites w/truffle butter just basic- not like I would expect from a Chef Wilson resto.... However, the service and ambiance is worth another go. Will be back for dinner or HH as apparently there is live music. This place is deep in the middle of Kirkland - a charming hotel that is quaint and romantic.. it so fabulous that it makes you forget you are actually in town! Hoping the grub is better the next time I stop in! read more

The decor is 5*. We can't say enough about how tastefully decorated this place is and the ambiance is second to none. The valet staff had impeccable service and have their job down to a science. Now to the food and wait service, which appear to be working through some new restaurant growing pains. Our waitress was nice, but told us our chosen menu item (mushroom pasta) was unavailable because they were out of it. On our way out we saw it on three different tables, which left a bad taste in our mouth. We did not get any apologies or explanation until I asked our server who simply said oh the chef must have come in with more mushrooms. Our food then came out in reverse progression due to either a mistake in the kitchen, or more likely a mistake in the entry of the order by our server. This made the meal a bit difficult to eat because the heaviest item came out first with the lightest coming out last. This left a heavy feeling in our stomachs as we drove home. We ordered a first course of wood fire roasted carrots with manchego cheese and carrot purée which was hands down the best item we ordered. The purée was delightful and we loved the char on the carrots. The only criticism is that the item was begging for some acid, either a touch of lemon or balsamic would have really set this item off. Our second course was meant to be the flatbread with cured salmon, dill, capers and creme fraiche. This was basically a flatbread version of an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese. This item was okay but the tomatoes needed to be charred a little more, as did our flatbread. We believe this is likely due to the order being forgotten and was rushed to our table. The third course (but first delivered) was the fried portobello burger. The fries were tasty and perfectly cooked and salted. The burger needed a touch more acid in the slaw or a tangy goat cheese to offset the fried mushroom. Adding to the irony we were offered salt and pepper as we were finishing out last (what should have been first) course. The burger did not need the salt and pepper, but the carrots did need it so it was nice salt and pepper to have with that item as were were halfway through with it. On the downside we did not get much of an apology for the delay in the food or explanation for the reverse progression, which again may be a big reason why we did not appreciate the food as much as we could have. All in all the food was a 2* with potential to be great. Everything looked well presented (5* on looks) and was Instagram worthy, but most needed some minor tweaks to really stand out. The server was nice but slow and not very communicative. The ambiance was amazing. We will try this place again in a few months to see if they have improved. I am sure they will get these issues squared away soon. read more

Service was excellent. The rest is a colossal disappointment! I have had better food at Applebee's! Dinner was $300 for a flavorless hamburger and a jr hi chicken cafeteria fried steak! Seriously, Wendy's is better! The chef should be embarrassed!! Hotel ownership should be hiding and frankly apologizing to the community. I brought out of town guests. I was mortified and embarrassed. We had been last year on our own and it was very good. What has happened? Again, i was so embarrassed when this crap showed up on the table to be served. Excuse me, I thought this was a fine dining establishment as the rooms are over $350 a night for Kenmore, no less !! We spent over$300 on worse than dive bar food at time premium dining hours . This establishment should be ashamed and embarrassed! We live locally and won't return. There is no excuse for a resort that boasts an amazing experience and charges exorbitant prices. Be more diligent as you will be out of business before you know it. read more

We were excited to explore the Lodge at St Edward one Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago and try the brunch. The hotel is such a gorgeous space! We were greeted at Cedar + Elm around 12:30, and we requested a table outside. The table was fun, like a slice of tree, and the chairs were comfortable, with big black and white umbrellas. Service was slow. We felt a little forgotten outside, with no one coming to bring water for several minutes. Everything on the menu sounded amazing; I really could have just closed my eyes and pointed. Finally we started with drinks. I got the Apple Jade Cooler, which was refreshing and nice. My husband got a peach sweet tea, which perplexingly tasted like a shrub, very sour -- we wondered if it was a mistake? He didn't mind it and doesn't like to make a fuss. For entrees, I had the mushroom tartine and my husband had the steak frites. Our son had the burger (and I think a Sprite or lemonade, I can't remember for sure). Everything arrived and was so beautiful. We needed to add quite a bit of salt and pepper to most everything except the fries. Even the inside of the burger patty was blah, as if someone had forgotten to season it at all. The fries were good. We ended with the "croissant beignet," which was like a lemon and blueberry bread pudding made with croissants, and lots of powdered sugar on top -- yum. :-) Honestly the mushroom tartine could have been so nice if the mushrooms had more flavor and the ricotta had some seasoning and herbs; it was such a sad miss. Even my neighborhood coffee place can make a toast with good stuff on it, and it costs 1/3 the price. They were clearly still working on the service, even in late July. During nearly our entire meal, my view was of two tables that needed bussing; one was adorned with an unappetizing wet rag. A busser actually came out a couple times and yukked it up with another table, and then went back inside. Finally our server noticed and cleaned them up as we were paying. As we headed to the parking lot, we saw the James Beard chef smoking at a picnic table, talking on the phone about real estate or another space or something. So I guess he was around that morning; I'm not sure what happened with the lack of seasoning on all the food. Overall it was an expensive and underwhelming brunch. The space is so pretty, though -- I wouldn't mind giving them a chance again for a pretty fall dinner. I know that sounds crazy after this ho-hum review -- but that's how pretty the space is! read more

Cedar + Elm is a great photo spot, inside and out! That being said this is it's only above and beyond quality. The service was really slow, it took a while for the servers to come up to our table and my party of only 3 to be seated. Mind you the restaurant was only maybe a 1/3 full. Definitely wasn't impressed by the food. I got their breakfast burrito and it was bland. I recommend coming to this spot for photos but either pack a picnic or go somewhere else to eat. read more

Sadly, I've been disappointed in the service at this establishment the last two times. Let's start out by stating that the bartender was so nice and attentive. She was a shining beacon of hope in this place. The food is also quite good. I'm not sure it warrants the price tag. I'm a bit 50/50 on this. However, where things break up is in its management at the bar and restaurant. The two sections are very disjointed and not communicative to each other. We watched food coming in to the bar and EACH time they had no idea where the food was supposed to go (only five tables at the bar area). Service was also extremely slow. Towards the end of our meal, we walked up to the bar and asked the manager at the bar if they could get us our check and a box for our food. He said yes...then proceeded to ignore the request and make some drinks with a male bartender (instead of getting us a check and a box...which took seconds to do). We waited another 15 mins and finally went to the delightful bartender (I assume lead bartender) who profusely apologized (not her fault!) And gave us all we needed. To add, we also had a hair in one of our meals. Things happen. They gave us a replacement and a comp (again, weren't at all annoyed by the hair...these things happen, no big deal). However, the same manager who took the food back literally avoided us the entire meal! The female bartender saw we were missing a plate, rushed over, and immediately got our food! To summarize: if you eat here at the bar...sit AT the bar so that the AWESOME female bartender is your server. Do not sit at the tables or run the risk of the absent manager ignoring you. read more

It pains me to write a bad review for a place I would like to see make it but some of the food was inedible, literally, because it wasn't cooked. Couldn't stick a fork into some of the roasted beet or the pumpkin. Citrus way over used on everything, even the flat bread. Most of our food was left on the plate. Beautiful setting and decent service. read more

Our first visit and possibly our last. The service was perfect...our waitress was Jillian. The drinks were delicious although pricey. We got the bread service and that was also pretty good but things went south on our first course which was the broccoli salad. The menu said chard broccoli with pickled grapes and the combo sounded interesting. We got what tasted like bitter raw broccoli and the grapes had zero pickle to them. Two thumbs way down. I ordered the bucatini pasta which was supposed to have crispy olives and the whole dish tasted of olives and nothing else but there was nothing crispy about them. My hubby ordered the pork chop which had a huge fat cap and ended up being slightly under cooked in spots. $150 not well spent. read more

Well, I just had brunch and sat at the bar. The bar is not set up to be a place to eat and drink, you have a multitude of people coming up like it is a Starbucks ordering coffee drinks to go! Surrounding me while I am trying to eat. Forget any service the bartender is so busy making coffee drinks for the dining room and acting like a barista for walk-ups. The eggs benedict was not good at all. The hollandaise had zero flavors, the bread they chose was like a stale scone, I was so disappointed. The place itself is beautiful but they went too modern it feels like a modern museum, think of the Picasso museum in France, rather than a welcoming place to eat and drink. Will I go back probably not, will I suggests visiting guests to stay there, yes. Because it is the nicest hotel in Kenmore. read more

The staff were friendly but it took 30 minutes just to order tea. Another 20 minutes to receive the bill.

We had lunch and dinner here in December. The service was excellent! Our lunch was chicken sandwich, hamburger, and Brussel sprouts, all were quite good, with generous serving. Dinner was sablefish, and Poussin which is a baby chicken. There were few options for dinner. It was good, though not flavorful. The wine and flatbread was wonderful. Prices were on the high side but we enjoyed the ambience. read more

I went for dinner with a friend, it was our first time and we were really excited to have a great dinner. The exterior of the hotel is quite striking and our table was very private against the windows facing out. If you want a very private meal for two, ask for one of these booths. The wait staff was friendly and service was timely. We ordered two signature cocktails to start. They weren't great, one of them we didn't bother drinking. For starters we had the fritters, which were delicious and the best thing we ate. Then we had the chips and dip, it was supposed to be onion dip but had so much salmon roe on it, it tasted more like fish. Not great, we tasted it but didn't eat 90% of it. For salads we had the celery and beet salads, they were both lovely. Then for our main course we had the gnocchi and ravioli. The pasta and gnocchi were both off, they tasted doughy, we ate less than half of each dish. The corn filling for the ravioli was flavorless but I did like the sauce and chard corn that came with it. The gnocchi dish had too many flavors going on apples, butternut squash, sage, herb mascarpone, some other sauce, pomegranates... For dessert we ordered the pumpkin doughnuts, they ended up being battered delicatessen squash which was still raw and inedible. We also ordered the lychee chocolate bar. The lychee were too hard to eat, the chocolate bar was good but very rich. Our dinner was $388 before tip. We did have a $170 bottle of wine. Overall the concept and presentation of the food was a 5 but the execution was a 1 at best. Neither of us plan to return unless we hear there is a dramatic change in the kitchens ability to produce edible food. A very expensive and disappointing meal. read more

Very charming place! Lots of rotating art, beautiful grounds and friendly staff. Drinks and fun and delicious. Plus live music!

What a fabulous place! This restaurant was recommended by a friend and while we were visiting in the Seattle area we took my daughter there for a birthday brunch gathering. Among all of us, we ordered a variety of entrées off the menu. They were all excellent! Outstanding food, very attentive service and lovely decor! read more

Jason may plan the menu, clearly (hopefully) he's not the one executing. We had: Cauliflower, octopus, shrimp and grits, tomato and burrata salad, wagu short ribs and pumpkin donuts. You'd think for $400 something would have been cooked and tasted properly. It was honestly, terrible. The cauliflower was hard, the octopus was tough as bark, shrimp and grits smelled like 6 week old rotten shrimp and the burrata was like water. The ribs had a good flavor but were like shoe leather and it was as if the donuts were cooked in car oil. Unbelievably greasy and heavy. Whoever overlooks the quality of the plates coming out is clearly fresh out of high school. A horrible experience and one I wouldn't even give a second chance to. Too bad because whoever designed the new space did a great job. Horrible food! read more

Very good ambience and food, options are limited though. Definitely worth a try, service is always good.

Just horrible food. Ordered 4 different meals and everyone in my party took one or two bites and we paid and left. Inedible.

First time trying cedar and elm. Kind of cool the way they restored the monastery into a hotel/dining area, but the whole vibe was super strange. Like turning a hospital into a resort. Weird if you ask me. Dinner was long to develop and the 6 people in our group had different opinions. Kale Salad was good. Cauliflower soup was good. Celery salad was weird. Entrees were mixed as well. Pork chops was good. Short ribs were mediocre. Pasta was a 5/10 and the Sea Bass was sent back 2x and got worse. Probably never going back to that place read more

The ambiance is nice and staff is super friendly. The food not so great. They come off by appearance and food descriptions on the menu as being fine dining, but it certainly is not. Neither mine nor my girlfriend's food was hot, and it had a staleness to it. I liken it to food that has sat in a catering dish rather than being freshly cooked. Walking around the old seminary grounds was pleasant and The Lodge has interesting artwork to view, but I wouldn't return or recommend the dining. read more

Maybe this place serves better quality food for dinner and weekend brunch. As for Friday lunch, we were not at all impressed this afternoon. There were two of us. We ordered deviled eggs to share (there were five???! halves of the egg, somewhat haphazardly piled with what tasted like bland tuna out of a can, no whiff of egg yolk, although a bit of salmon caviar on top was a nice touch); seared tuna steak which seemed overcooked and very bland; and pasta al Ceppo which sounded great in description on the menu but turned out to be mushy and not very tasty, the herbs overpowering Portobello mushrooms' delicate flavor. This pasta in particular could have been a great dish, but obviously needed some work. For dessert we chose beignets - which only reminded beignets by shape of a square pouch, this was more like of gingerbread cake consistency, but that at least was not bad and we really loved the ricotta with berries that accompanied the pastry. The setting of this establishment is stunning and the service was ok, but the quality of food and its taste left a lot to be desired. It would be a shame for the chef to lose the interest of the public for this new and exciting venue. I read a lot about the freshness of the food being a motto for the new chef; somehow our food today did not taste or feel fresh. read more
