My 1997 house was built out of limestone and paper. Well, not really paper, but the siding and trim…read moreare a product called Masonite which has a paper pulp component that does not hold up well in humid weather. A couple of years ago, I replaced the siding on the back of the house and chimney with Hardie siding, but I did not spend the extra money to replace the soffits, fascia and trim around the roof, because that would have cost more than all the other siding combined. It turns out, squirrels like to eat paper, eh, I mean Masonite siding when they can reach it. So there are chew marks on the Masonite trim near the roof where they can perch on the gutters or roof line itself to reach it. At this point, I have gutters up and really do not want to go through the hassle of removing just those boards. I needed some metal flashing the width of the trim and bent at a 90 degree angle so it would also cover the narrow side. Home depot does not carry anything like that and if you have ever tried working with the flashing they have, once you try to bend it (without the proper tools), it starts to look like a crumpled beer can. There was a place in South Austin that did metal work, but when my handy man called them, they would not do small jobs. I Googled "buy custom metal flashing in Austin" and Montopolis supply came up. I called them, explained what I needed. They could form the flashing and custom cut the pieces to the length I needed. They also had a primed metal that would be ready to paint once attached to the house. I also needed an angle trimmed off each one - but had a template I could bring them when I picked it up. They assured me they could handle that for an additional charge. I pre-paid for my order over the phone (minus the custom cuts I would pay for later). They said it would take 24 hours. A few days later - I made my way out there on a Saturday morning to pick up my order. The office is pretty kitschy with lots of religious signs and bibles for sale. The staff was friendly and helpful. Kenneth brought my order to me and took my template to provide the additional cuts I would need. He made those cuts right in front of me. I paid for the extra cutting ($2.50 per cut). He also showed me which screws would be best for attaching to the house and you can buy those by weight (as little or as much as you need). I left with my newly cut metal flashing and a small bag of screws. Next week, I plan on having them installed on the house so the next time a squirrel tries to chew my house, they may need a trip to the dentist.

I explained to them that "it's 2;15 pm the afternoon of the pour!!!!, "I had already paid for a concrete pump truck four hour service starting at 4 a.m."(set up)...pump truck is an independent and non- refundable to be here for 4 hours so that we could accomplish our pour in Texas heat ...in August and we were going to start pouring at 5:00 a.m... Junior attempted to bully me and said flatly "your concrete will be there at 9". Tex Mix called at 2 pm and left me 3 business hours to get a competitor to prepare a custom blend and deliver on prescribed intervals......This is AFTER Tex Mix had already taken my credit card (for) payment!?! When I called back the salesman, sales rep, sales manager, and general manager,.....All were unable to take my calls and dispatch told me to "call different managers at different locations to see what they could come up with".Two days later none of them even returned any of my emergency messages that I left. They talk a great game and nod to Brandon in the QC department he actually acted like he cared. He was very knowledgeable with great advice was even going to come out to the pour..... They talk so cool that butter wouldn't melt in their mouths... Their pricing is far from the best. Their service is the worst I could possibly imagine..... to cancel late the afternoon of a 5:00 a.m. pour. They are great at customer service and have a great QC guy to answer questions.... They just suck at delivering product when and where they promise......no matter how far ahead you schedule or how many times you confirm with them to avoid this nonsense. I made 1 call to a competitor and great service, great product, better pricing ,and great communication.

Tex Mix claims on their website: "FAMILY OWNED AND…read moreOPERATED. We are large enough to handle any size project that you might have and small enough to care about every one of them." I am an owner/builder of a project that required 4 trucks of concrete, scheduled for 8 am. I had all my help ready, my pump truck operator on site, and ready(charging by the hour...) I get a call from TexMix after 8:00. They have a big job that the builder got off to a late start that morning. How late did that push my project back? Nearly 4 hours later, the first concrete truck arrived. Additionally, they could not provide trucks at the agreed upon intervals between loads to give my crew adequate time to slow pour a rather technical concrete wall project. Ended up costing me a full day of renting the pump truck rather than half a day. Any offer to pay for the extra cost of the pump truck? Not at all. "Small enough to care" about every project may sound warm and fuzzy as a marketing slogan, but Tex Mix fell drastically short. Not only were they unable to fulfill the order of the larger contractor that same day, but they ended up hurting the smaller guys they claim to care about. Tex-Mix. Clever Texas name, but devoid of true Texan values. The true-to-their word Texans who stuck around to help me pour concrete on the hottest afternoon in October were the heroes of that day.

I wish I could give this GEM OF A COMPANY a 0 stars or negative stars…read more All of my material was miss-milled and/or bowed and/or twisted and what I was told by the mill is that the grade of wood they was sent by ALB was substandard and that the quality of that type of material had fallen substantially over they years which is something that should have been disclosed to use prior to the purchase. I was told, after the fact, Benjamin Baker has no quality control standards. The particular mill used by ALB to mill material for my project says they will not do business with ALB due to the negative experiences they have had, as well. I have seen good material come from ALB prior to my project. Hence the reason why we foolishly chose them as a supplier and in this case my family lost 8k+. Perhaps my project/home was too small of a project for them to care after they received payment. The projects, ALB supplied, that we inspected prior to our purchase had at least 10 times the material being a bit more lucrative for ALB and therefore more incentive for him to make sure the material they received was of top quality. Make sure to inspect every board before you take delivery or you may be, like my family, sorry. Expectation is 10% waste when you purchase lumber but this was a total waste. Our expectations were made very clear upfront and we were told that we would get what we were promised, which, unfortunately didn't occur. update 1/2/2014 And now I received a call from a process server. I assume is because I was am divulging the fact that miss milled wood came from this wonderful class act of a company. After partial installation the wood had to be torn off of my home because it looked that awful. Apparently I'm not allowed to speak of facts or opinions regarding a business that in my opinion took advantage of my family..... This is the United States of America where truth and opinions are protect under the first amendment guaranteeing freedom of speech and expression. I guess it's time for the courts to give ALB some insight into the laws of this great country. This is not my first rodeo. Instead of paying for an attorney perhaps you should work on rectifying the problem you caused and pay my family back. You failed at providing me what I paid for so I have the right to let others know. Do your research, inspect projects closely that use ALB product and definitely make sure you inspect any material for fitment and milling inconsistencies prior to taking delivery. If you would like I am happy to show you the pile a useless garbage I have kept in storage for years. In fact I may make an art installation out of the material with a dedication. I cannot recommend this company for anything as my experience was years of hassle and frustration. I ended up having Fine Lumber supply and mill the material that was installed on my home which came out perfect and with less than 10% waste. They even replaced boards that had defects they didn't catch. They did all the work in-house, they had special knifes built to mill the material. An over all awesome experience with them. They were timely and the material was top-notch! Cheers to honest people. Happy 2014 everyone!

I wrote an email asking for a specific piece of siding with specific dimensions in hardiplank…read moreinstead of masonite., and got a response that said "we have all the standard sizes of hardieplank in stock now" from Dean Apparently it was MY mistake to take that as an affirmative response, because when I drove an hour out of my way to go pick up the board with those dimensions they told me that they only has hardieboard not hardieplank, that it would never work in place of masonite, they didn't have that size in wood either and when I showed them their own email from an hour previous Dean raised his voice and said "I said Standard Sizes!" Apparently he couldn't be bothered to read two whole sentences of email and only read the one half of the word "hardie" and I was supposed to understand that he had disregarded the rest of it. Listen: Maybe if you are a builder or something that is going to buy 2000 board feet they will give you the time of day. But even then I wouldn't want to support their dishonesty. As an individual: Avoid!
