These guys are professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and a great resource for your projects. And they deliver within the local area for a very reasonable rate - less than HD or Lowe's. If you're sick of talking to a big-box hourly employee who doesn't know his plywood from his OSB, you gotta talk to these folks. Wish I'd found them earlier. Their prices are very competitive and they can save you a lot of time and confusion with advice and suggestions. Buying lumber at Eastside Lumber and Decking is as good an experience as I can imagine: they have good products at fair prices, make worthwhile recommendations and deliver quickly. In less than 30 minutes, I'm in and out of their store knowing that I purchased what I need and when it will be delivered -- and every board arrives straight and is of first quality. I wrote an email asking for a specific piece of siding with specific dimensions in hardiplank instead of masonite., and got a response that said "we have all the standard sizes of hardieplank in stock now" from Dean Apparently it was MY mistake to take that as an affirmative response, because when I drove an hour out of my way to go pick up the board with those dimensions they told me that they only has hardieboard not hardieplank, that it would never work in place of masonite, they didn't have that size in wood either and when I showed them their own email from an hour previous Dean raised his voice and said "I said Standard Sizes!" Apparently he couldn't be bothered to read two whole sentences of email and only read the one half of the word "hardie" and I was supposed to understand that he had disregarded the rest of it. Listen: Maybe if you are a builder or something that is going to buy 2000 board feet they will give you the time of day. But even then I wouldn't want to support their dishonesty. I have an odd project - I am building a standup paddle board. I needed 6 2x8 and one 2x6 of western red cedar. I need to resaw them down into 1/4" planks, or even 1/4 x 3/4" strips, and therefore need clean knot free wood. When I stopped by, the lumber yard was very busy, and they could not allow me to go back and pick my own boards, but they said they would put a note in for clean boards. Even being busy, they did a good job. There were two boards that I felt had too many knots (large ones that crossed the length of the board and would have fallen apart once cut. I was able to bring them back for an exchange. This time they were not busy and I was able to pick the two replacement boards for myself. I would have been easy for them to tell me that sales are final, or that there would be a restocking fee- but they went above a d beyond to accommodate my small project. Thanks! read more

This is a decent place if you are buying large quantities. Not the cheapest place in town but I usually don't mind paying a little more to support a local business. If you are buying smaller quantities (say, $1000 or less) you will end up with everyone else's rejects. So you have to order 20-30% extra, and then return the warped, cracked, etc, boards. Kind of a hassle but at least they accept them back without any trouble. (Of course, they will just sell them to someone else until eventually they don't get returned.) Delivery is cheap and the staff is friendly. That definitely counts for something. read more

All of my wood was delivered the same day or early the next. The owner even made an emergency Saturday run for us! Decided to try them after all the good reviews on Yelp. Very disappointing experience. Went to their location and paid for 27 pieces of 6 x10 x 5/4 cedar deck boards. Cost was ~$20/board. While this is over 30% higher than Lowes, I was assured they were much better quality than Lowes so I paid it willingly. WRONG! 20 minutes later they brought the boards out to my truck and the first 4 that I unloaded were probably the worst examples of cedar deck boards I have seen. Warped, cracked, scuffed, etc. Went back to order deck and his response was something like "I don't know what I can do man. This is what we sell". Got a refund and went to Lowes where I bought much better boards for WAY less. Yes, it's a pain to sort through them in the store to find the best boards, but at least you get to pick the best boards AND you save big $$. Not saying Eastside is bad, but for the average consumer looking for smaller quantities of cedar deck boards, I wouldn't waste my time. You pay much less and can get the same or better quality at Lowes. read more

Ordered $8k of lumber from Dane, called Bob yesterday to confirm pickup. Also called Bob the morning letting them know I was on my way to pick it up. Hooked up trailer, hauled an hour to town. Get there, talk to Bob. He takes my $8k. Tells me it's not ready and they'd pick it now, would be ready in 30 min. Go back in an hour later after sitting in parking lot. They hadn't started, I asked what the deal is. He said he'd check. They went out, didn't have any of my lumber I ordered a week and a half ago in stock. So let me get this straight, I order- call you the day before, and the morning of, and you didn't think to tell me you didn't have it???? Bobs excuse? I looked up your order when you called but I didn't check stock. Ummm... These guys are clowns. Plenty of better options, wasted a full day dealing with these fools. Not worth it. Time is money and they don't care about customers. read more

Why did the Better Business Bureau rate these guys "D+"? My own experience: Eastside charged me $366.09 for an imaginary "delivery", and didn't give me proper documentation for the transaction - which kept me from seeing the charge. After I spent months prying out information, they finally reversed the charge. Their explanation: an employee had pressed a wrong key by "mistake". At first I simply believed them. But something didn't smell right. Why did they tell me false things in response to my inquiries, and then refuse to explain or discuss it? Why did they repeatedly break promises to send me information? Why won't they give me a copy of the original receipt that would reveal who at their store added the charge? If I had put a $366 tool in my pocket intending to pay for it, and then walked out of their store without paying, would they just accept me saying "oops, I forgot to pay, here's your tool back, gotta go"? Perhaps their mistake was innocent, but I should have evidence that allows me to investigate. Despite their making many promises, they never gave me the relevant documentation. They even threatened to sue me when I first challenged them about the charges. This is not the way an ethical, professional business operates, IMHO. I agree with the Better Business Bureau: Eastside deserves a "D+". read more

Dishonest with a serious attitude, they regularly substitute inferior material illicitly, bill dishonestly, and have terrible customer service starting with the owner all the way down to their inept sales reps and delivery drivers. As struggling DIYers my husband and I decided to build our own 20x10 deck in the backyard. After subjecting ourselves to the painful advice from the associates at Lowes and HD we decided to check out Eastside. The clouds parted and the sun came up. These guys had a materials list and everything I needed for the deck in ten minutes . Then they waived the $25 delivery fee because I just lived down the road and had been so patient . Ps the delivery charge at HD and Lowes is $55. We got all pressure treated wood AND 20 foot long deck boards for cheaper than the quotes from the lg box stores. Will use them anytime we need wood and of course they are local which is a bonus. read more

We're renovating a house just a couple blocks from them and have been able to get all our siding, lots of lumber, and other supplies (flashing, tape, ramboard) there. The guys are really nice and returns are easy (even returning $400 worth of siding). The only complaint is that some of the lumber we got from them was pretty warped. These guys are great. The lumber is a little more than what you'd pay at the big box stores, but the quality is far greater. You're buying lumber, there's going to be a few here and there with a split or crack... it happens with wood, that's why you buy a little more than you need. The guys at ESL are great to work with, even for a DIY noob like me. They take care of you before, during, and after the sale and fix any problems that come up, if any.
