I was a long time (25yr) customer, spent a LOT of money over at American Bolt, but then I encountered a bad situation with product quality at the store. I bought a wire cup attachment, it went south in minutes, costing me about $20. They (owner Dane Jackson) refused to back it for a quality swap-out, and lied to me at the counter, and said that he would have to contact a product REP, as an excuse to refuse to help a long time customer. They actually have a 15 day written complaint system, unknown to the customer (not displayed), and do NOT have a company built on trust, do NOT believe in quality products or doing things the right way every time, as they (family owners Jim Jackson, Dane Jackson) mention on their website. Stay away from this place. read more

Be aware of return policy on unused hardware. Our project was delayed and the concrete contractor ended up supplying anchor hardware. I tried to return $300 of unused brande new hardware today and was rejected due to being outside 30 day return policy. Be aware you may need to return product and repurchase if your project is delayed for any reason. Small individual businesses like me, $300 is a huge loss on specialty hardware. read more

I stopped by American Bolt to grab a specific sized nut to fit on my car for what I thought was going to be a quick fix. It turned out to be a more extensive issue. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get one bolt? Well ... lemme tell ya. You see, I work in construction and lots of times I am tasked with finding some obscure item in some weird quantity. I always come through. Always. I pride myself on my ability to find strange items in short amounts of time (thank you internets!) So I needed six 1 1/2" bolts with this special washer. I went to three different places - two that didn't have it and one that wanted to sell me 150 of them. They recommend American Bolt Co. (I thought the guy said American Boat Co which was strange) The guy measured the bolt I had, went in the back and brought six out for me. Cost me something like 57 cents or something. FTW! read more

I remember going to the local hardware store as a kid with my dad and whoever was working would listen to what he needed and do their best to get the exact part. Now you get a "Yeah, I think that's fourteen aisles down to your left. I'd help you but I'm busy stocking these light bulbs." Not so at American Bolt Company. The guy went to the back stockroom a few times to make sure I got the correct carriage bolt and thumbscrews I needed. He had a great attitude and didn't rush even though there were others in line. His co-worker showed the same care to those customers as well. I was excited to get home to Yelp! out about such great service. This place will have any sort of nut or bolt that you would ever need. If you have something that could be fixed with a screw or two, get down to this place and you could save some money. My friend and I fixed five microphone stands for a couple of bucks. Short and Sweet - Best bolt and fastener shop in Austin. FANTASTIC service and GREAT prices - who could ask for more? I recently needed a specialty fastener for a motorcycle and went to Home Depot, Lowe's, Breeds, then to Ace Hardware - no one had what I needed, or even an acceptable substitute. Next I went to Austin Bolt Company up on Rundberg Lane and was greeted by a dirty lobby, a line of six people, and no one at the counter- I left after ten minutes, still no one at the counter, and I simply didn't want to wait an hour to get a bolt. I went to American Bolt, was greeted immediately by three representatives at the counter, promptly served, and left the store two minutes later with the stainless steel bolt I needed for the princely sum of 45 cents. I returned the next day for three more funky bolts - again, promptly served, and they had everything I needed. My new fastener hookup is located on Burleson Road, and well worth the drive from anywhere in Austin. Hooray! read more

Quick, easy, knowledgeable, to-the-point service. I found the U-bolt I needed right on the shelf. I went to the counter to match up another bolt that I needed but didn't see in the browsing area and the associate at the counter retrieved it from the back in less than two minutes. I wish I had gotten his name, but they don't wear nametags - he was a younger guy with brown hair and a camo "American Bolt" hat. I spent about $8 for the bolts I needed that I was unable to find anywhere else near me. The only drawback is that they are only open contractor hours, M-F 8am-5pm, but their service and selection is worth planning a trip around my work schedule. read more

I also had a great experience here. I needed some tiny machine screws to connect two parts of my microscope, and arrived shortly before they closed. My helper was courteous, very helpful, and patient with me at a time when he could have been eager to get home. At the end, after all the help he gave me, he didn't charge me for the screws or his help, and I now have a functional microscope. I went to home depot and lowe's looking for a bolt. Besides the fact that the bolts are all over the place and its a treasure hunt, the service there sucks, if you even find someone to help you. Thats not the case at American Bolt. Great service at this shop. I needed three 6mm 1.0 bolts for a project on my car, and the guy said that it would be $1.75. I gave him my card since I had no cash. He replied that there is a $5 minimum on the card and if I needed anything else of the sort, to which I simply replied no. He then told me to pay him back some other day when I had cash. I was shocked! What kind of people do these things nowadays?? I will obviously go back and pay him, but these people are great. Great service and friendly. I felt as if I had known the man for years. He also helped me look at a problem that I had on my car and directed me to where someone could help me fix it. No one does these kinds of things nowadays. People have become so inhospitable, but not here. I feel great knowing that people like this still exist. If you need a bolt or anything of the sort, look no where else than American bolt. I can assure you that you will not regret going to this place. Prices are lower than home depot ($1.80 for one bolt at HD and $1.75 for three at American Bolt), and you cannot find service better than this anywhere in the WORLD! read more

An excellent company with professional staff. There will almost always be a wait, as this is a very popular place for good reason. They have good prices, an excellent stock, and will help you no matter how trivial your request. I've purchased several thousand dollars in hex head vinyl coated screws for the restoration of my building from this company. I ended up here because of a very unpleasant experience with another bolt company on Rutland drive. I brought a sample 4" hex head vinyl coated screw to the Rutland drive company and asked if I could buy a case. The counter person was extremely rude, told me I didn't know what I was talking about, and that this item didn't exist (I guess the sample in my hand was not ample evidence). So I found American Bolt Company, talked to Dan the owner, and found them to be most helpful. I will never venture down Rutland drive again, and American Bolt Company is the ONLY place I will go.
