BEWARE...I live in a Condominium in Associa Homeowners Association. The Condo above our Condo needed repairs to the balconies front/rear. The company hired by the HOA was CBCI. The work started on September 29, 2017. I was not informed by the HOA about the needed work. After CBCI started working on the balconies, it was discovered the wood beams supporting the rear balcony were rotted. I was then told by the HOA that CBCI would need to have access into my Condo to cut into our living room and bedroom closet ceiling. I was assured that their workers would cover my furniture, carpet, and personal belongings and CBCI was very professional. CBCI was to start working on December 4, 2017 in the condo. The work did not start until December 7, 2017. I was told that the workers were denied access into my condo to take a sample of the ceiling the week before. Which was a lie, I should have known at that point it was going to be a nightmare. The day they started working in the Condo was December 7, 2017. Starting their work in the Condo, they half covered our furniture, carpet, and personal belongings. We came home every day to find the Condo a total mess. Drywall pieces all over, drywall dust, installation, and our furniture half covered with plastic. Our TV center buried in drywall dust and pieces. The HOA was the responsible party that was letting CBCI into the Condo. After 5 days of work, they still had not finished the work. We had to get a hotel for the weekend to allow CBCI to finish. No one worked over the weekend.
Upset I called the HOA to let them know CBCI had not worked over the weekend. I was assured that CBCI would finish the work come Monday. Well CBCI did finish on Monday. They worked so fast that our ceiling looked like ocean ripples. The drywall mud was so thick that it had already started cracking; the mud was falling off the screws. The finish paint did not match the rest of the ceiling.
In the Bedroom closet, they had ripped apart our old closet organizer and then just threw it back in the closet in pieces. The ceiling was damaged from the mud still being wet and the organizer being slammed in the closet.
Their contractor did repair and finish our ceiling in one day. The contractor had badly pieced the drywall together with large gaps then taped the gaps, put mud, then textured the ceiling and painted all in one day with a different color of paint than the color of our ceiling (only painting half of the ceiling). In the contractors one day of work they used our sofa as a ladder (leaving mud on the sofa), scratched our bedroom dresser, damaged our bedroom closet organizer (unrepairable), paint/mud spots on the carpet, paint, and mud spots on our new cement patio. The ceiling badly repaired with large areas of mud bulging, cracks, holes, mud falling ware there were screws. Our patio covered in paint and their daily lunch trash. Oh yeah, trash, a huge pile of trash next to our Condo from all the debris from the repairs and their daily lunch trash.
The HOA would not let me hire another contractor to repair CBCI's repair because of common walls. So we had to allow this company back in our Condo to fix their BAD repair. It took CBCI 50 days to repair our ceiling. It still needs repair. I will need to repair the ceiling to bring back to a saleable condition.
The cost of this repair for me was to buy new furniture, shampoo and clean the paint spots from the carpet, wash walls, repair our bedroom dresser, replace our bedroom closet organizer, and clean our new patio slab.
Total cost for us as the owner of the Condo. New Furniture $3.000, new closet organizer $1,700, shampoo and clean $200, repair kit for the dresser $50, and clean the patio slab $40. For a total of $4,990. Oh yeah, and to repair the ceiling $2,500 which will need to be done before we sale the Condo.
GRAND TOTAL: $7,400
OH, I think that is was what CBCI was paid
The whole experience is violating, disrespectful and damaging to our personal property, and to our real-estate investment. I notified the HOA of our concerns of the quality of work to the condo in several emails. When speaking with the HOA they had no regard to the person owning the condo or our personal interest.
