Disappointed with MEGA Remodeling Solutions - Be Cautious
After working with MEGA Remodeling Solutions, I have to say--I don't understand the high ratings they've received. Looking closer now, I notice that many of their reviews come from accounts with very few other reviews, which raises some red flags. I wish I had noticed this earlier. Hopefully, this review helps others make a more informed decision.
Issues We Experienced:
1) Strange Business Practices
From the start, they gave us a hard time when we insisted on getting proper permits from the City of Torrance for our garage renovation. Instead of handling the permit process professionally, our contact kept threatening to raise their prices if they had to wait for inspections. Isn't pulling permits a standard part of the job? It felt like they were trying to discourage us from doing things the right way.
2) Unreliable Scheduling
They frequently didn't show up on time--sometimes arriving late, sometimes not showing up at all without notice. This dragged out the project longer than necessary.
3) Short & Inconsistent Work Hours
Workers rarely arrived before noon and often left early. This was frustrating because it slowed progress significantly.
4) Unprofessional & Messy Worksite
* We were charged for hauling away debris--it was a clear line item in our estimate and invoice. However, they still threw demolished materials, industrial waste, and other trash into our personal garbage bins instead of properly disposing of them.
* They didn't clean up after themselves well, often leaving trash around the property, requiring us to clean up after them.
* One of the workers spat all over our garage during the demolition phase. While it may have been during demo, it was still incredibly unprofessional.
5) Poor Workmanship & Cutting Corners
* The overall finish quality was lower than expected and definitely didn't match what was initially promised.
* Worse, they seemed content leaving unfinished work, and we had to constantly point out issues just to get them to fix things. If we hadn't been proactive, some parts of the project would have been left in unacceptable condition.
* Even now, I have to go back and fix many things myself because of their subpar craftsmanship.
Final Verdict: 2 - 2.5 Stars
In the end, after a lot of back-and-forth, we did get something in the general area of what we had hoped for--but it was far from a smooth process. Now, we're left with additional patchwork to fix their mistakes.
I will say that they weren't the most expensive contractor in town, so if you decide to go with them, keep your expectations low and be prepared to micromanage the project to ensure quality. Personally, I wouldn't hire them again. read more
