In an ideal world I'd have unlimited living space and enough disposable income to clean this store out. I'm a huge fan of their eclectic modern style, mixing clean lines and pops of colors to create a fun yet tasteful environment. Service at this store, like many of the other CB2 locations, is outstanding. Employees are always engaging, helpful and more than willing to offer home decorating advice. While my apartment pales in comparison to the store's furnished spaces, I'd like to believe that with the right pieces, my place can come alive. I'd recommend trolling the kitchen section, as many of the adorable cups, containers and silverware are relatively affordable and oftentimes on sale. The furniture is a pretty big investment, but I'd like to believe that one day I'll be lounging in my very own lobster-colored sectional from CB2. read more

Caution: make sure you are ok their delivery policy before you make your furniture purchase. I got a great deal on exactly what I was looking for, and the sales staff were friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. I agreed to a Tuesday delivery date, and was told the warehouse would call 3 days in advance to confirm a time slot. All good, right? Here's the hitch: you can't change the time slot they give you. You get what you get. So plan to keep your schedule open for the entire day, until you hear from them when your slot will be. On my delivery date, I have one 1-hour appointment, and of course the delivery time overlapped with it. Del in the Berkeley store called the warehouse to try to change it, and found out that it could be done, but I'd have to pay an extra $50 to reschedule. This is on top of the $99 delivery charge I've already paid. Rather than pay more for another scheduling attempt with the warehouse, I'll try to adjust my appointment. Since the customer service in the store is so great, it's a surprise and disappointment that the delivery policy is so difficult. So be forewarned, and make sure you block your entire delivery day! read more

Just what you'd expect from the catalog transitioned into the store. The store is small, so they cram as much as they can into it. I found the gift my friend gave me in the store, amazing. The workers were all friendly and seemed to great all customers. Parking is a bitch, hey it's 4th street. A good Sunday distraction when you have nothing to do. read more

I like a lot of the dishes and serving pieces here and I'm pretty happy with the lighting pieces we've purchased here, including a pendant lamp for our bar and a big lamp to light up my end of the sofa. I'm not sure I would favor it for actual major furniture pieces, but the stuff does seem to have initially leapfrogged West Elm in terms of construction and value; West Elm has now in turn upped it's game in many of its lines, so it's a good example of competition in a little segment of the vast housewares ecosystem being a good thing. I do wish they would expand their color palette a little bit beyond Home Depot orange and that offputting green that ruins many otherwise cool and well-priced items. I'll actually drive to this store over the one in Union Square because it's a little more accessible and less claustrophobic and if you're transporting your goods by car, it's a far easier prospect to get in and get the stuff packed and get out. Plus there is a Peet's literally around the corner here in the 4th Street complex, not to mention some fun galleries and other shops right around the vicinity, including a Crate & Barrel "outlet" right acxross the street. read more

I love CB2. It's a great home furnishing company that inspires me to tear out one of their brochure pages and execute it in my home. My first CB2 experience was in San Francisco but I prefer driving to their Berkley location instead. Why? I find the Berkley location has a larger and more spacious floor plan. I never feel crowded or suffocated compared to the tight aisles in San Francisco. The Visual Merchandisers at the Berkley locations create inspiring displays and furnishing details. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. You are always greeted when you enter the store, which is always a smily face on my books for me. Unlike other retailers, the staff allows you to browse around without the pressure of 'needing to buy something' nor do they nag you ask you every 3 minutes if they can help you with anything. When shopping, I find it important for employees to gage the customer and shopping behavior to know when to follow up with the customer to see if they need any assistance; if it happens too close to one another, it can come off nagging and plain annoying. CB2 prices are fair. You get what you pay for. Their furniture is more on the mid-high price range, but the quality speaks for the price you pay. As far as their accessories, there is large price range of inexpensive impulse articles and high price accessories you think twice to pay for. What I do find with CB2 is that you are able to find one of a kind articles or pieces that you know other people admire and ask, "Where did you get this?" What is difficult with visiting the CB2 in Berkley is the difficulty to find parking especially on the weekend. Expect to walk, but if you plan on buying furniture, plan ahead or coordinate with CB2. I got their catalog and was ready to purchase online when, lo and behold, I found they had a store in Berkeley down the street from me! I really like the store. Lots of modern options, not very expensive. I got some cool soup(?) bowls for $4 each and some cute chopsticks for the kiddos. Lots of fun options to choose from and the space is big. Check it out! I LOVE CB2. My fiancee and I have been going furniture crazy recently to furnish our new place we're going to move into and out style is modern/mid-century modern. However, I'm not one to walk into a DWR and pay a ridiculous amount of cash for some furniture. CB2 offers great style at affordable prices for the style-conscious resident. Some people still think their stuff is expensive, which is fine if you're just going for practical furniture, but we're trying to spruce things up. The quality of furniture is well beyond that of Ikea. No particleboard here! Customer service is very good, they're helpful and nice, but not pushy. Florence helped us out and she was very cool and made sure we were taken care of. I love that you can see the furniture, buy it, and take it home straight from the store, unlike other showroom stores where you can only have it delivered. Great location on Fourth Street with plenty of parking. I will definitely be back a few times in the next couple months to pick up a bunch of other pieces. read more

tldr; Unclear stocking delays bathroom renovation - I needed a mirror for my bathroom renovation and was excited to see that the one I wanted was listed as in stock at this location. - I arrange my schedule so that I was able to go to the store after work to purchase the mirror. - At the store, I am informed that the mirror was not in stock at the store but was in stock at the warehouse and would be available to pick-up in a few business days. This seemed faster than ordering online and shipping so I made the purchase in-store. - One week (5 business days) later, I still had not received any information about when I could pick-up the item. Since I made the purchase in-store, I was not able to check the status online and had to call the store to find out the status of my order. The sales associate informed me that the mirror is now backordered with no clear availability date - which is completely different from the expectation that was set when I made the purchase (that it was available and would be on a truck to the store in the next few days). - I mention to the sales associate that I would not have made the purchase if I had known the item was backordered. If I had known I either would not have made the purchase or I would have just ordered online. She did not offer apology or acknowledgement of the situation. I love these guys! They have a super fun accessible store in Berkeley, and their staff is just lovelyl. When I was searching online to figure out what I wanted, their online chat rep was willing to make phone calls for me to research how accurate inventory levels were and whether certain items were on display. Even though I had my heart set on the Nesting Peek a boo tables, my husband had wanted me to check out a less expensive little table at West Elm first. After that awful experience, walking into CB2 was such a delight. I am so glad the West Elm staff was so apathetic because the products at CB2 are such better quality - and worth the few extra bucks. The Peek a boo's are so amazing in my living room, and everyone who comes over remarks how much they feel like they are flying with Wonder Woman in her invisible airplane. Thank you, Kristina!!! Don't expect to ever actually receive the furniture you order. I ordered a "ready to ship" couch in November, have had delivery scheduled and then canceled twice, and still no sign of the couch. Was just told it was now scheduled to "arrive at the warehouse" in 16 days. Find another furniture store, there are plenty of better ones. read more

Looked around and finally decided just to purchase my 1 bowl. Cashier asked for my ID to match my card, no problem. Then made a phone call. Now, I live in the Bay Area and should my bank suspect its fraud, my card just declines the transaction. But she made a call. I realized she (white girl of course) assumed I couldn't possibly afford the $10 bowl and had to triple check that card was indeed mine. Surprised as it is Berkeley. In this day in age I didn't realize there were stores that were so stringent on accepting a return a few days past the return period when its an item they still sell currently in their stock. It has obviously never been opened and still in the box, we just had a hard time getting to their only location that is close by. I went to a crate and barell near my house (walnut creek) only to find out I have to go to CB2 in Berkley to return it. When we got there which is only a week away from our original return period I didnt think this company would be such a stickler when we purchased a lot of items from them in the past. Pottery barn, RH Ive ordered plenty from these places and patronize them because of their great customer service. Ive ordered from Crate and Barrel and formerly land of nod which is now Crate and Barrel kids only to be annoyed at their return policy. I wont be purchasing here anymore after I use this gift card. There seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for the new CB2. Each time that I've visited the store I always seem to overhear someone talking about how it is new and unique. I'd agree with a lot of the hype. The store is slick and the service is friendly and helpful. Their furniture/wares skew towards a younger crowd with more modern tastes. I tend to like most of what they offer. Although upon seeing the products up close in person, the quality didn't always match up with my expectations at the prices they were asking. read more

The store is great, but don't ever order a large piece of furniture from this store, or you will have to deal with the most incompetent, unwilling delivery drivers, most of whom don't speak English. I ordered a bed from here that was simply manufactured improperly. The warehouse came to my apartment THREE times at 8 AM ON A SATURDAY MORNING trying to fix the thing to no avail. Oh yeah, and the first time, apparently the drivers were supposed to put it together, unbeknowngst to me because the company failed to tell me that, but they ran off without doing it. 2.5hrs later I had it together and the slats were drilled in the wrong way. The last time they were supposed to set the bed up at the warehouse to ensure it all worked, then take it apart, and deliver it to me. They came, asked me what was wrong with my current bed, and explained that the new one had the same problem ie THEY NEVER PUT IT TOGETHER LIKE THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO and instead wasted my time and woke me up AGAIN at 8 on a Saturday. Theeeeeeeeeen. I bought a couch from Crate and Barrel (same company, same warehouse, same delivery drivers) and was faced with three lazy men, one with major attitude, who refused to try an alternate way to get my $2000 couch in my door. The snotty one tried to start a fight with my boyfriend too. They have no concept of customer service. It is a shame that a company with nice furniture doesn't have the wherewithal to hire competent, polite delivery personnel. Stay classy Crate and Barrel. read more

I love this store...very cute items of the sort that makes me wish I had a house! Some of the items are very expensive and it's definitely catered to an older crowd that are not students. I got a very cute red chili plant from them for only $3 and I've actually used it for cooking! I definitely would like to shop here in the future, but this is one of those stores where you can get as much satisfaction from browsing/window shopping than from actually buying stuff. The service at this CB2 location is friendly and helpful. We ordered a table by phone to be delivered to SF and we are happy with it. Our disappointed rating is due to the lack of follow through on delivery. Despite confirming a number of times that the piece was to be delivered, unpacked and set-up, it was not. There seems to be a real disconnect between sales and delivery. Even though we were reassured the delivery would be as agreed by the store, the delivery men said they would not put the piece together. They only did so once we insisted. The upside of the delivery was that it could be coupled with a delivery from Crate & Barrel for one fee. For big ticket items that need professional in-home delivery, I think we'll avoid relying on CB2. For smaller items CB2 is still worth it. read more

It's really unfair that some people give 2 stars because the furniture here just isn't their taste. In my opinion, I love the style and the price is way affordable compared to other furniture stores. People who say it's too expensive must enjoy Ikea furniture that lasts a good five minutes. Also, the location is great. I'm from the South Bay and am more than happy to make a drive up to Berkeley to visit CB2. There's even a private lot adjacent to the store with a convenient pick-up location in the back. CB2 is affordable modern- think clean lines, sheek, and white. Items: This CB2 carries a pretty good selection of CB2 items that's almost always in stock. The quality of the items are pretty good considering its pricepoint. If you want to "grow up" beyond IKEA, this store is a good starting point for something simple yet better quality. It has a lot of items with clean lines, square and edgy, and simply zesty. In the back of the room, it has a series of rugs and the "tile" rugs that I like. They're pretty neat if you want an unique design in your home. Location: I like the location because I can go to Crate and Barrel Outlet across the street and then make a visit to this CB2. Convenient and right off the 80 freeway in Berkeley. Parking: It has its own 2 hour free parking lot. There's also plenty of parking surrounding the building and on the street (though this is a bit difficult during the weekends). Pricing: I would wait for end of the season sales. Throughout the season, they will tend to discount a few of the items. Some of the items that are not sold at the end of the season eventually make it to the Crate and Barrel Outlet across the street since CB2 carries less items than Crate and Barrel and does not have its own outlet. They are owned by the same parent company. Affordable pieces that are about 1.5-2x the cost of IKEA, but much better quality. In particular, I like some of the tables and bookcases at this store. Anything white and sheeky suites my taste. In the past, it has carried a few items similar (though of course not the same) as the nearby Designer Within Reach, but for less than half the cost. For instance, during Summer 2010, CB2 brought back their outdoor silver/metal color round table. This table has been around for a couple seasons, but it was priced about $180 at CB2 and $800 at Designer Within Reach and it was almost identical. Great price points for what you get. Personally, I like CB2 better than Crate and Barrel especially if you like the contemporary/"modern" look. Tip: Pay attention around the end of the season for the floor models. Great prices that are usually at least 30% off of the price if not more. Often, items are 50% off. Customer Service: I've had stellar customer service here. I remember I had purchased a TV stand once and the loading lady at the back of the store was so strong and friendly. She lifted the entire thing into my car and it was almost 100 pounds excluding packaging! Amazing strength! Loading dock is to the back of the store/right of the parking lot. Ambiance: Spacious store, nice lighting, and easy on the feet. I would recommend shopping here without hesitation. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I think it has less merchandise than the SF store and the location is not as "central" compared to downtown, but +++ points for free parking! I've also had some dififculty with finding sale items because they tend to go faster at this store than in SF probably due to the free parking and the ability for folks to load things into their car. read more

i was really excited when i heard that crate and barrel had opened more budget friendly spinoff store that tailors to a younger crowd, and after visiting their los angeles location, i was excited (but sad to see cody's gone!!) to find CB2 at fourth street. however, i'm not sure if its a change in CB2's product offerings in general, or this particular location, but the pieces in this store were way too modern and cheap/plasticky for my taste. think college dorm minus the cost-friendliness. sure some items may be cute and unique now, but how long before i regret purchasing that gimmicky bright orange plastic end table? not long. their products online and in other locations seem promising, such as their credenzas and media consoles, but this location doesn't carry a heavy selection. skip this and head over across the street to the crate and barrel outlet. read more

This place all the modern appliances and home furnishings you could want! -1 star for being overpriced on furniture (its my opinion that furniture is and always has been overpriced ie; lucite coffee tables for hundreds of $$, it's plastic for goodness sakes!). I think when you take a cheap material and shape it in a cool way and paint a cool color you should be paying a bit for the style, not be ripped off by a trend. What I have always loved about Crate and Barrell is the value you get for dishes, gadgets, and stemware. Last minute gift shopping is always good here. I purchased 8 floor carpet tiles on Sunday 3/30, my husband and I literally laid the tiles down in our bathroom to see if they worked- they did not match color wise and I promptly put them back in the bag, returned them today Mon. 4/1. At the register the sales associate stated that a few of the tiles were stained and offered store credit. I found this ridiculous - that we had purchased the tiles not even 48 hours. They had stains on them when we bought them ( I should have asked for pristine ones but figured they are going on the floor why bother), and now I can't even get a full refund!? Perhaps your employees should check the in-store stock and pull the items deemed un-sellable because they had no problem selling it to me in the first place but will not process a full refund upon return. My husband and I loved shopping at CB2 but this has changed our loyalty to your stores! read more

Extraordinary selections with Exceptional service!! After realizing the purchased floor lamp from the Berkeley store wasn't working out for my space. I first called the SF store and see if item can be return there. Once they realized it wasn't originally purchased at SF, attitude immediately shown from their tone of voices. When calling the Berkeley store, they didn't even bother to ask where the purchased was made. As lamp made back to the store, professionalism was demonstrated at every levels. I loved the merchandise and put in a huge order to furnish my new home. The staff was nice but untrained and took over 90 minutes to ring me up at the register. After a week and spending over $2000 on the Dylan table and bench, I was told the stains on it "are normal mineral deposits"...after more emails and calls to ask how to clean it no reply. The manager is snooty and unhelpful. My replacement stools and other table have still not arrived in almost a month and the manager refuses to do anything, give me status updates unless I call and no compensation for the incompetence. Cute products but awful service, especially after spending thousands of dollars. Not impressed. read more
