Came here looking for a bookcase and left with other amazing things instead. I browsed around the store for about 5 minutes and was greeted by a sales lady. I browsed a bit more and then I was helped by another sales person, which made this trip great and made me want to stay and shop because they seem to provide good customer service. I finally ended up buying 1 bike rack and metal wine holder for $87 with tax included, which I thought was a great deal. My CB2 experience was phenomenal! All of the floor associates were very kind and friendly. I had no intensions of purchasing furniture here initially, but the patience and service given to me was the deciding factor on taking the plunge on the Dual Pebble Tufted Sectional. There were many sectional to choose from that it took awhile deciding which one I wanted. The CB2 team kept offering me spec sheets and fabric samples of each sectional I had interest in. That was great! I completely had no sales pressure at all. Believe it or not, I was lounging on various furniture for hours and never felt I needed to decide right then and there. I've also walked out of CB2 and started browsing other competitors next door. I ended up returning because the designs here are simple and ageless. I love their products and I bought my bed, nightstands, shelving and other small items from the store. Very modern and chic. Problem is their billing does not contain details. It is lumped into one amount. When I call to ask about an explanation or process a return the hold time on the 1-800 number is extremely long! Bought our wedding plates here, quality and durability is just not there with their dinnerware. Most have all chipped only 2 years in. Talked to someone about it and they said please bring them in for an exchange or store credit. Apparently I was misinformed and that too much time had passed and there is really only a 90 day warranty. That's all fine, but when I brought plates back in instead of apologizing for misinformation, all I received was a lot of rude hesitation like I was the one lying about being told this information. (Even with the comment "well maybe you bought these at a garage sale."). It was very embarrassing and completely unnecessary. I wouldn't have come in and wasted my time bringing in my wedding plates if their own employee last week hadn't told me to. I will not be shopping here again, will tell friends about my experience and only wish customer service could have just been nicer to me and taken me at my word. Disappointed. read more

I used to love going to the CB2 at this location. It's become a trend now where every time I walk in, the staff doesn't seem very interested in greeting everyone equally. The more polished get the attention and greeting, where the weekend comfort folks get just short of an eye roll. This has been the case the last 4-5 times we have been to this location. During our last visit, we had to return an online order where we actually received the wrong item. We stood where we thought a line should form and while the multiple employees behind the counter did not bother to look up to help, there were competing lines forming. We waited our turn and when we got to the counter, the woman helping didn't bother to say hello, grabbed the box and mumbled something about it being a return. Then while she was processing the return, another employee just barged in during the middle of our transaction to ask a question. Now after waiting in a long line, the customer who was after us got two employees' attention. Not one word to us while we were still standing there waiting in the middle of our transaction. They were very pleasant with the other customer, who seemed to be better dressed. It's frustrating after we've spent thousands of dollars to know we bought from a place that profiles customers. After the awful return exchange, we hesitantly went to purchase some items we needed. Another man who rang us up was again not very friendly and short in his responses. We asked for more of an item that he had to go to the back for, and while we were still talking he just started walking to the back. I found it to be very rude. I don't usually write reviews like this because I know it's tough these days and who knows what people are going through. With that said, this store seemed fully staffed while we were there and every single person we interacted with seemed very uninterested in helping us or dismissed us. Meanwhile, they were all laughs and friendly amongst each other and the others in the store. Looks like another review had a similar experience as ours. Williams Sonoma has West Elm and Crate & Barrel has CB2; both carry modern furniture, rugs, bedding, décor, bath items, and so forth. West Elm features Asian/international designs, monogramming, and more "organic" feeling pieces. CB2 offers a lower priced alternative to people who like Jonathan Adler. I favor CB2 and recommend it as a place to shop for affordable drinking glasses and fun stocking stuffers. And yes, I miss Cody's Books too but that's a separate issue. For Christmas they have modern looking ornaments (the pointy ones), snowballs ($2), faux felt trees, bottlebrush trees and elf candlestick holders. I GUESS I like the overall look of the CB2 merchandise, although the price points are a bit schizophrenic....some stuff is super cheap and cool and little things you wouldn't mind having around to trot out for parties and such, and the other furniture type stuff seems a bit expensive for what it is....it's a bit hard to sift through the pricey stuff for the little gizmos. We wandered Fourth Street today, which we do about every three months or so. We basically hit every shop that holds a modicum of interest just to see what we can see, burn off a lazy Sunday. I didn't take note of the name as I walked in. Five feet in, I whispered to Jack, *what, they can't think of a way to present products/prices that doesn't mimic Crate & Barrel?!* Jack just kind of snickered, and said "Um, cb2 - get it yet?" So, yes, a Crate & Barrel Jr. Some clever, fun furniture, glassware, etc., But like an earlier reviewer, I liked the display of bare branches best. They have some of the friendliest staff ever. Most (there were a lot of them) approached us with a cheery *hello* and a no-pressure sales attitude and - here's the cherry on top.... acknowledged the existence (in a good way) of my 5 and 6 year-olds-- actually talked to them like they were people. This goes a looong way in my book. One salesperson even took the time to check on the Santa Arrival Time at the Peets down the street for us. She gains them Star #4. read more

Youngish version of Crate and Barrel. Think Crate and Barrel before getting married, having kids and a dog, and a mortgage. CB2 is while Crate and Barrel is still partying and meeting his/her future partner. CB2 furniture are fun, contemporary and affordable although not totally inexpensive. CB2 is perfect for loft and/or apartment dwellers, or if you just love hip, contemporary and minimalist furniture. My taste in furniture is totally different but I still find CB2's accessories very cute and hip. I found placemats and candle holders that were still able to mix with my home decor. I might not buy any furniture from CB2 but I definitely enjoy shopping at this store for home accessories. And they have great stuff for the home office. A definite must visit for me while on 4th Street in Berkeley or Union Square in the City. (If you're on 4th Street, walk across the street to Crate and Barrel Outlet and you'll know why I compared the two.) read more

However, some of their stuff is hella reasonable..like little appetizer plates, soap dishes n little shit like that. I really like the design aesthetic at CB2, but prefer the furniture at Crate & Barrel because the color selection and design tend to be more neutral and classic. While the idea of moving gives me heartburn and headaches, it also provides an opportunity for one of my favorite things - furniture shopping!! Out with the old, in with the new. This was my first time actually purchasing something from CB2, although I get the catalog and have visited this location as well as the location in SF a few times. I love their furniture and prices. For less than $600, we walked out of CB2 with a new dining room table, 2 chairs to match (which were also on sale as floor samples, with a few scratches that can easily be fixed), a desk and a coat rack. The sales women who assisted us was very helpful and friendly. She joked with us that the store is dangerous and if we needed her to cut us off, she'd do it. Luckily I was able to stop my partner and I from going crazy and buying more stuff. Most of the items are stocked in the store, and you pick them up around back. P.S. I find it hilarious how people are giving this store bad reviews based solely on the fact that it's not their taste or that it replaced a book store. If you don't shop here, then don't review it. read more

CB2 offers a more updated design aesthetic than its older, more established parent, Crate & Barrel. Their stuff is younger, hipper, and trendier. Put another way, if Crate & Barrel and Ikea had a baby, it would would look like CB2. But that's not to say that CB2 is inexpensive; it's not. So make sure you have that well-paying banking or tech job before even considering furnishing your pad with stuff from CB2. Given that this is Berkeley, there is no shortage of you out there. read more

I like simple, minimalist designs, so CB2 works for my price point. I wanted an all metal platform bed. Regular Crate & Barrel designs I didn't really like and Room and Board was just a bit too pricey for me. So win win with CB2. Ended up just ordering it online after checking it out in store since I had a 10% off coupon and got other discounts (like 3% off from ebates and another 3% off from fatcash). Shipping was free. I got called a few days after the order and got a choice of days for delivery. Unfortunately once you pick your day you are at their mercy since it is non-negotiable. They will call again with a time and you will have to accept it or re-schedule. I lucked out since the warehouse was in Tracy and was quoted 8-10am. 3 delivery guys came by just after 8 and were outta here in about 5mins. I only have one flight of stairs so they appreciated that. Also note that if you order other smaller items, those will come via UPS instead of with your delivery. One drawback is the amount of packing materials. I'm not the greenest person. I don't think I'll ever own a car that gets less than 15mpg and I'll likely take convenience over conservation. But godddddammmmnnnnnn that's a lotta trash. I mean yeah I built a really cool fort and shit but I already emptied my trash twice and still have another few weeks to go before my garage is finally cleared out. read more

I absolutely adore design and decor, so today I couldn't resist stopping by and seeing if there was anything I could pick up for my future real-person non-college-student apartment. CB2 has a very young, energetic aesthetic. Many of the designs are pretty appealing, some of them quite clever, like a desktop chalkboard. I think CB2 is supposed to be be a cheaper alternative to Crate & Barrel, but for me, the prices are still a little steep depending on the item. However, sale prices make some of the items comparable to or even cheaper than Ikea. Today, I bought a stylish set of plates (appetizer plate $.95, salad plate $1.50, dinner plate $2.50). However, CB2's selection still isn't very large. I don't know if it's really fair to compare CB2 to the Crate & Barrel outlet across the street, which many reviewers seem to do. The Crate & Barrel outlet has a huge kitchen focus, whereas CB2 seems to be for the whole apartment. At the same time, this means that CB2 only has a bit to offer for every aspect (kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc.) read more

I recently moved and decided to upgrade all my furniture. I went to several places for affordable but well constructed pieces. I found that CB2 offered the best price point and style for the money. I was hesitant about ordering online, so I went into the showroom. I visited 3 times over 2 months and I had a fantastic experience each time. First, there is dedicated parking, but it gets full, so a couple times I was unable to park in the lot. But I did show up on Saturday afternoons, so I guess that part is not their fault. Each time I was in the store, it was very busy. A couple times I did have to flag someone down to help me. Each sales associate was friendly and took the time to answer my questions. One associate helped me to sign up for the credit card and clearly explained the terms of the card. He also helped me place a huge order for a bed, entertainment center, couch, dresser and night stand. 2 items were on backorder, so he told me that the warehouse would call me when the items came in. A week or so later, another associate called me to schedule the delivery. There was a slight mix up with my phone number, but I was assured that they would fix it. They scheduled the delivery (all day until 2 days before, where they give you a delivery window which is 2 hours in length). The deliverymen showed up on time, and the pieces were all in perfect condition. The drivers clearly followed the special instructions that I put on the order. The dresser and night stand were customer assembly only, which was a surprise. The delivery guys did set up the couch. However, as it turned out, since the bed and entertainment center were on back order, I had not paid 100% percent of the cost and the items did not show up. I called the store immediately, and an associate found that my number was not corrected, and therefore I was not alerted that the full price had not been paid. Because it wasn't my fault, the associate waived the second delivery charge and scheduled the delivery after charging me. The second delivery again went without a hitch (they were able to get it out to me within 3 business days). The delivery guys were professional and on time. Overall I had a great experience with CB2. Although there was a problem with the initial delivery, I will chop that up to a mistake, which they were happy to rectify. The items on back order came in exactly when their system said it would, and I am very happy with the quality of all the furniture that I have bought (minus one star for the mistake). This is a fantastic company that makes quality furniture and care about the customer's experience. I also think the sales associates are outstanding, both in person and over the phone. read more

When I go to buy an expensive couch, the last thing I want to see is another shopper who thinks it is perfectly okay to bring their dog into the store. Or more to the point - who thinks it is okay that their dog is jumping on to the furniture. None of the employees were stopping this woman or asking her to get her dog either off the furniture or out of the store. If you want your dog to get on the couch - buy the couch. You can do whatever you want after it has been delivered to your home. But it seems the absolute height of arrogance to just allow your dog to step all over brand new furniture, and not one single store employee stopped this woman. read more

I'm a fan of this store even though I've never really bought anything here. I mean, I think the young, newly graduated from college me would be dreaming about these furniture but lamenting that I don't make enough from my entry level job. Of course, now. I am a "little" older, a homeowner, and have decent wages but cannot justify having super low (but cool) couches which would torture me and my friends with knee and hip problems. Such is the tragedy of life. So if you were smart enough to get a decent wage right out of college instead of trying to save the world in non-profit wages, come here, you would love it. read more

I've bought a good amount of furniture here bc if you're millennial aged, this is probably your style (modern, cozy, stylish). However I had an issue w a bed I bought. Without delving into boring detail, I went to the store (in store orders cannot be resolved by online customer support, must go to the place you bought) and was immediately greeted and asked what I was looking for. Muhammad linked me to the manager for my issue, pulled up my order and tended to any questions while I waited. Marko then took over and diligently spent almost an hour ensuring my issue was resolved at no fault to me. I came prepared with my order number, pictures, etc but I honestly was expecting more fuss about gosh knows what. Nope, I was treated with kindness and respect. They both apologized for the wait which I thought was unnecessary but appreciated nonetheless. The rest of my furniture has been sturdy, well made and I love the style. Let's take a test ... Pottery Barn: Crate & Barrel West Elm: _________?? The answer is CB2! This 4th street store is a modern and contemporary counterpart to the West Elm on Bay Street ... with super friendly staff to boot! I was casually walking around in the store looking for a sofa, and three employees (not just one!) asked if I needed help. Mike was especially helpful as he went above and beyond answering questions about the Cielo sectional. He also informed me that every 3rd weekend they have floor sample sales (from Friday-Sunday) and that they mark certain items down (even 40%!). He recommended that I call the store to see what floor samples are available on those weekends in the event that I can't just zip down to the store to check things out. This is invaluable information for shoppers who would like to save on key items. The thing I appreciate about CB2 are the pops of bright color and slightly more kitschy offerings they have compared to the more traditional inventory at their sister store. The in-store service was great. However, the assembly people who put together my Nobasu extendable dining table at home did a poor job, and this could just be a poorly designed table, unbeknownst to me at the time I paid $2000 for it. The table is very wobbly. The assembly people did not leave me the special tool that you need to tighten the screws on the table legs. Now I'm worried that the table will fall apart while people are sitting at it. Very disappointed that a table this expensive is wobbling like this. I tried calling the store and was forced to leave a voicemail, which I think is just inexcusable. I'm hoping someone contacts me about this review so that I can get the tool I need to tighten the screws on the table legs. Not a satisfied customer, though. This table was a major financial investment and now I'm going to have a wobbly dining table for the next 20 years. Hoping somebody contacts me about this review. Gotta love 4th street. It's right off of the freeway (between exits) and there's Anthroplogie, CB2 and Peet's all on the same street. Sounds like a good day to me. I think I came here on Mother's Day and surprisingly this was where everyone was on THAT day. I thought they would all be out to Brunch or something. In spite of all of the high foot traffic I still found parking on 4th street. Everyone in the store was super nice. I'd had my eye on this abstract bathroom curtain + bamboo towels for a while. I got those. I would love to buy more at CB2 but their main living wares still seem above my price point. I don't know the couches and chairs just don't look the same. read more

CB2 is an affiliate of Crate and Barrel; a modern sister store. I get CB2 catalogs in the mail. It's nice to go to actual store to see items in person. It's a nice store to walk through. The staff is helpful. I didn't see an item that I saw in the catalog on the showroom floor so I asked an employee and they looked it up, and let me know they did have it in stock. I was able to purchase it and was sent to the back of the store (outside) to the pick up area. I rang the bell, showed my ID and they put the item in my car. It was only shitty when I got home and I'm like shit, how do I get this inside now? Which brings me to let you know-- they have a home delivery option. read more

Sure, they have the same things, and this is a beautiful location... but I was there 25 minutes and nobody waited on me, acknowledged me, paid me any attention. Welcome to the neighborhood CB2. I've browsed a couple times in recent months and really enjoyed the offerings. They have some cute stuff and nice prices. I just picked up some trendy soup bowls that also got good reviews from my dinner guests last weekend (including Sam M. and Jeff J.). I don't love everything they have, but when you go modern that's always the case....it'll never suit everyone's taste. Prices here are perfectly reasonable. The staff here are friendly actually and seem to have mastered the fine art of greeting, offering assistance, and then letting you be alone to shop. I really wish they would teach this skill to other stores in the 'hood. If anyone is shopping for me for Christmas, I really like the decanter they have right now..oh wait, I already have one decanter...actually that I really like too. No sane person without a large house would ever have more than one, right? right? read more

Then i read they were going to open their first brick&mortar store, but behold! it was in Chicago, where CB2 is based! Bah! While on a trip visiting my friends, we came across a CB2 here in Berkeley! Hoorah! While I didn't get anything, I was thoroughly happy with seeing things in the catalog that I had always wanted to see before I bought (the hassle of shipping it back was a royal PITA). Employees are nice and everything was clean and well presented. :) Think of it as the West Elm of Crate & Barrel, more affordable and similar design aesthetics as the original C&B, targeting the just out of college but definitely past the Ikea stage in their lives. read more

Soooo, I get the catalog and, too excited to wait until I actually get IN my house, I start perusing through the pages. Enter house, drop all belongings, and make a beeline for my mini post-its. My nerdy, yet $$-saving, tendencies take over as I start to tab all the stuff I just have to have. :) They have a great holiday promo going with quick/free delivery, yet...I just can-not wait. Excuse to drive all the way over to Berkeley (okay its like 30 miles), and thankfully, there was no Cal game that day a ` la no TRAFFIC. ;) Not one to deal with street parking--who carries coins these days??--(nor do I have the patience for it), the lot parking is $10 for the entire day. Worth it--time is money, baby. So nerdily giddy as I walk up to the store, post-it covered catalog in hand- I find what I need, and the sales peeps are SO helpful. They were so cheery on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, their awesome friendliness almost makes me want to buy more, yet, I do have self-control and I promise to be back...in a week ;) They had what I wanted in stock and I hate asking people to help getting stuff to my place, even as cheap as I am, so I was totally willing to pay for the delivery charge. This is why I give them a strong 5-star review. I LOVE the guy at the pickup location in the back of the store. I musta' been flashing my 'guns' (my tiny little bicep & tricep muscles lol), cuz he was like, "I can tell you work out. Save some money, here's what you should do...". DUH, I'm such an idiot--why have I not thought of this before? He put the heavy stuff in my SUV, then suggested that when I get home just open the box and take the pieces in and up the 19 steps a little at a time. OMG. love you.
