We go to cava twice a week, different locations, and the portions are always consistent. Today, here at this Cava, the portion is half of what we normally get. We definitely did not get what we paid for. When I tried to bring it up to one of the employees he made a comment about when we get half portions of the chicken which the protein was skimpy too but before that the rice and the greens were barely there in both our bowls. AND I actually paid for a full portion of chicken and add on sweet potato and they served it as if I didn't pay for extra. Last weekend we were here, it was fine. We won't be back here especially since we tried to remedy it and bring it up and we just got deer in the headlights basically. To top it off the food was nasty. The quality hasn't changed at all -- everything still tastes amazing. The only thing I've noticed is that the portions have definitely gotten significantly smaller compared to previous visits. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's noticeable. Also, just a heads up: it gets very busy around 5 PM, so arriving a bit earlier (or later) will give you a much smoother experience. I like their build-your-own bowl and frequently get their grilled chicken or spicy lamb meatballs . You get a choice of sauces and toppings. Everything tastes freshly prepared and the dips, especially the harissa and crazy feta, are standout favorites that pack a punch without overpowering the dish. I like to add power greens and grains as my filler and with the toppings you can customize to your heart's content. I sometimes treat my self and get their pita chips as its quite flavorful and crunchy at the same time. So after you add the toppings and sauces, the whole bowl is just salty!! Management at barranca location , please train your workers to scoop more base !! My whole bowl looks like a kids meal with the amount way under the line inside the bowl. Another thing is, can the chain buy smaller bags ? It's wasteful to get a huge bag for one bowl. And last can the worker scoop the toppings and sauces and place them on sides of the bowl instead of top of each other. I was surprised how much better I liked this place than Chipotle. Basically the same concept, but Mediterranean as opposed to Mexican (where have I been I know). I really loved the freshness of everything. I got a bowl with saffron rice & arugula with tzatziki, hummus and feta. My protein was the braised lamb shank, which was excellent. Basically topping wise I got everything which I probably should've said no to the stupid broccoli mix which gave me bubbly guts for the next six hours, I hate you broccoli. But everything else was phenomenal. I loved the pickles and pickled onions. That might be a theme that I love all things pickled. Either way this was a very solid lunch. I try to stay away from anything with a lot of seed oils, I know chipotle is full of them. This location is clean and there is plenty of seating, but it is a bit noisy since their kitchen area is open so you can hear them chopping away and cooking. Ingredients are fresh and prepared on the spot. Prices are decent for the amount you get. Their pita chips are the best! Definitely recommend adding those to your order. The customer service is really off putting here. Like others have mentioned, this particular Cava goes by rules that resemble Chipotle. If you ask for extra rice at this location, you won't get it. My order is so simple, I don't get all the sides and dips available so it's important at least for me to get a bit of extra carbs to offset the chicken, corn, and cabbage. Sometimes you just want to grab a quick lunch to enjoy on your break and when I have interactions like these it makes me never want to go again, so great job today guys if this is what corporate Cava told you guys to do, it's working. Surprised this cava wasn't busy! It's usually busy especially during dinner hours. The place was clean and presentable. The first server that helped me was friendly and professional. However the second server that finished my toppings appeared moody and didn't seemed she wanted to help. She forgot to give me my sauces for my second bowl. It was rushed. Had to knock down my rating. Thanks Owen for the promotional drink! Update: The side dish falafel I got was so crunchy, too fried and overcooked. It was crumbly. This is probably the biggest CAVA location I've been to. Huge dining area, tons of seating & booths as well. I love the open kitchen set up as well. Unfortunately, this location was a disappointment. Around 2pm on a weekday, kitchen was fully staffed & one person was taking care of the entire line & cashier duties. With 4 people in front of me, it took 25 minutes to order. But the saddest part was the food. Grilled chicken bowl with super greens & basmati rice... and it was basically half a serving of greens & a sprinkle of rice & they didn't have some of the toppings, the chicken was almost nonexistent. They didn't have the drinks available that we had ordered online until 11:15. If you're in a rush would not expect this to be a quick pickup like chipotle. Additionally, the in store customers line was super long because they had nothing ready to serve I guess. If you're not ready to serve customers then just change your hours and don't open at all or have the employees start prepping earlier. I've had quicker service at actual sit down restaurants. It is such a shame that Cava does not exist in Northern California, but on account of this I always treat myself to Cava when I'm in southern California, no matter how short the trip. The line is efficient, ordering is straightforward, and the meat is always fresh. I absolutely love all the mean choices that I've tried. The only protein that I've not yet had is the falafel, as I tend to opt for the higher protein-per-serving option. I love the babaganoush - wish I could buy it as a side in itself to take home, or as a dipping side to the pita chips. That's how good it is.
