I am still in love with Cava, but I feel like I've been here enough times that I kinda get their mode of operations. So many people have commented on the serving size. Maybe we've all been spoiled with Chipotle's generous serving sizes...but it just feels like Cava will give you the least amount possible that they can get away with. The "do half an half proteins" trick does not work here. I think you actually get less protein if you order half an half. It's more like 1/3 and 1/3. I find the servings inconsistent too. I did half falafel one time and got 3 falafels. I did it another time and they insisted you only get two. And if you get it in a to-go bowl it's a lot less than if you eat there. It just is!! I must sound like a fatty discussing the serving sizes here, but I'm just saying. They aren't very generous. Oh, and one time when I was walking inside, someone was walking out and said "They get so mad when you ask for extra toppings" The toppings are free. I find that sometimes they do get a little eye rolly when you ask for extra quinoa. It's quinoa. It's not like I was asking for extra french fries and an XL coke. It's whatever. I've never eaten at Cava Mezze Sr., so I really have no comparison for the company's new grill venture, other than to say that those who liken it to "Mediterranean Chipotle" kind of hit the nail on the head. Cava Mezze offers assembly-line fast-casual mediterranean food with flair. If you've ever eaten at Roti, it's a very similar concept, although I do think that Cava pulls the whole thing off better. I opted for a bowl with pork, hummus, tzaziki, and crazy feta (which was crazy delicious!), and pretty much ALL THE TOPPINGS: cabbage, onions, more feta, kalamata olives... the list, it goes on. My bowl was very filling and flavorful, even after the drive home (I took it to go). They also have a variety of soft drinks and whatnot available, although those ramp up the price of your meal pretty much exponentially. You're probably better off just sticking to the menu items and grabbing a cup for agua. (Water can be free? Who knew?!) I think this is a great place to grab a quick bite, with slightly more of an ethnic flavor profile than many of Mosaic's other fast-casual establishments. I give Cava Mezze a solid 4-star rating. For nothing extra, you add color, crunch, and nutrition to your meal. (2) Spicy harissa dip is the best. A little goes a long way. (3) Protein-wise, you can never go wrong with chicken. Cava also doesn't skimp at all. Thank you, Cava! (4) Choosing between the toppings? Don't. Get all of them at no extra cost. Who doesn't love the crunch of pickled salads of all kinds? (5) Use the complimentary pita that comes with the bowl option to make your own mini wraps or pockets. Save a piece at the end to mop up all of the last bits in your bowl for that final, fulfilling bite. In this day and age of ubiquitous fast casual, Cava also stands out from its peers by offering not only quick and affordable meals, but a dining experience that is also environmentally conscious. Whhhhyyyyy Cava, whyyy? Cava tends to be the only place my kids will eat their veggies. We went there yesturday to get bowls and the infamous pita chips(those things are addicting). The service was fine, and there was no line at all. When I started to order I noticed the mint leaves were brown and the greens were also. I continued to order because I literally craved Cava all day and there was no way I was going home without it. We got home to eat and cut up the lamb meatballs,they were so red and undercooked! There was no way we could eat them. Which sucked because thats the best part. The lemon was brown,and the cumcumber and tomatoes were extremly old and slimey with a film on them! The chicken also had weird hard parts in it. This was sooo odd of Cava, as we order there weekly. We ended up having to literally throw away everything and ended up having to cook:( Honestly it was just beyond disappointing to the point were this was the first time my husband and kids didnt eat all there CAVA! I have been here twice now and my general feeling is it is more geared toward regulars. Both times I have visited it has been difficult to ask questions and even harder to get answers. I think the designer of the food assembly area should make a visit to &pizza. At &pizza they have the assembly options on the wall like at Cava but they also provide the information on the glass of the assembly area. When you are picking dips & spreads if you don't know them already you are just pointing and hoping. Same with the proteins (I did learn you can mix two if you want) and dressings. I really hope someone connected with this brand is reading this -- please use some lettering on the glass with the dips & spreads names, proteins, & dressings, PLEASE. I understand that once (if) I were to become a regular I would know this but after a long day which wrapped up with a blood donation I really wasn't up for ordering my dinner to be so complicated. How well received and welcomed I feel as a newer customer really makes a difference, at least to me and I can't think I am alone on this (I know my friend felt similarly). PLEASE visit &pizza. I appreciate that it will involve needing to clean the outside of the glass more often because folks will touch it when pointing but that fact also validates how much it will be used and the importance of it. I am certain folks will use and appreciate the information and an extra whip down or two will be worth it. I have been to multiple places that use this style of casual dining assembly and some do it much better than others. When you do it well folks feel welcomed when you don't there is a deer in the headlights feeling and folks are more likely to make rash decisions. Here is why that matters, one's first visit(s) impact if they will return and feeling welcomed vs feeling rushed & devalued when making selections plays a roll. My friend and I liked what we had. We split my bread. Neither one of knows why I got one and she did not although I did do a greens base. Oh, there are multiple greens options, which is great, but you know what would be greater? You guessed it, if they labeled them, luckily they are in large clear containers behind glass doors which could use some lettering so folks know their selection options. I realize I am harping on the labeling but I bet good labeling could make the process move more efficiently and during prime times this could make a real impact. Grand Opening 2/27! Cava is located next to Taylor, under Target. Cava Mezze is like a Greek/Mediterranean Chipotle. You can get a bowl of rice or tortilla and top it off with a protein (lamb, beef, chicken, falafel), sauces (tzatziki, hummus, spicy or regular salsa), and toppings (onions, olives, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, etc.) I'd suggest going with the rice bowl with lamb or beef and my favorite sauce is the tzatziki and spicy sauce. It's on the pricier side for fast food (~$8-10), but at least it's healthy! Service is quick too. The inside is clean and roomy, but there should be more tables, in my opinion! read more

I love Falafel as much as I love anything FRIED.... I was dying to check out this place at the Mosaic. So, date night included this fast food dinner place! No lines, so kudos for our 'old people desire to eat early'...but it was like 7pm on a Saturday night. YES, yelpies you are so right, it reminds me of a Chipolte type place..so pay attention or no "Falafel" for you! I love how they post giant instructions at the top of the line, so even a newbie like me can figure out the process without holding up the line. I love that there are SO many toppings and sauces. I opted for the Pita with a Falafel protein. My only complaint about this place, and it's minor, is that their Falafel wasn't crunchy and had no flavor. Then I pile tons of toppings and the falafel got lost...seriously! The pita was out of this world, very fresh and fluffy. The hubby ordered the Bowl, and it seemed tiny compared to Chipolte's and Rio's bowls. Definitely going to return because I dream of the available toppings. This is a good Cava obviously because of the location. It's a pretty good place if you have the time to park, and walk to the store. It can be hard to get parking during lunch times and especially during weekends, but its worth it to be in the area. It's a fairly standard Cava and they typically get through the lines really quick. I only gave it 4 stars though because sometimes the flavors are inconsistent. I always order chicken and its usually really good and exactly what you'd expect, but maybe 1 out of 10 times it'll taste different or kind of bland. Simply amazing. The Holy Grail of Mediterranean food!!!! After less than favorable experiences with Mediterranean food, I was ready to dismiss the thought of ever treading the same waters.... Regarding drinks: make sure you try the vanilla bean limeade. Whoever decided to put vanilla in limeade deserves a medal. While in Northern VA, do yourself a favor and try Cava Mezze. I had tried the Tysons location previously and really enjoyed it. This location stays true to the really great food and awesome range of options. I can't pass up their falafel or the power greens mix! The hummus, roasted pepper spread and so many other things are great also. But MAN, the thing preventing this from being a 4- or 5-star place is how horrible and cramped and loud the inside is. There's almost no seating, and what they do have are booths with only one exit and tables squished so close together you're bumping elbows with strangers. I get that it's a small space and it's what they had available to rent I guess, but they should really reconfigure it to make it more comfortable for customers even if that means that fewer customers can dine-in. So delicious. I have been to the Tyson's location just recently and wanted to hit it again, but was scared it would be packed on the weekend so we decided to try Fairfax. This location is located in the Mosaic district which was super cool by the way. We had never been to the Mosaic district and it was total LOVE. If I was a young single person without kids I would SO totally live there! This is essentially the Mediterranean version of Chipolte. You walk up to the counter and pick out a base. I got the pita as my base (greens and rice are also available) then you add the dips. I chose the Harissa and Red Pepper Hummus. The lady at this location put it on pretty thin where at the Tyson's they put it on thicker. Not sure what the norm is...but it was still good. The Harissa is amazing. If you like spicy make sure you get Harissa! Next comes the protein and the meatballs our out of the world. The falafels are pretty good too as we got a side of these! Then you add toppings and a sauce on top. I wish the toppings had names on the outside as the person at this location was a little hard to understand...hence the 4 stars. I will totally be back. I may have been over doing myself on the Mediterranian Food these days, but I LOVE the Cava Mezze sit down restaurant so I just HAD to check out the Grill. At the front, you'll find a Chipotle style menu. I decided to go with the lamb sliders on a bowl served with pita bread and a mixture of hummus and taziki sauce. It was definately delicious, and the lamb sliders were particularly the shining star. The sliders were nice and tender but very well seasoned. The food tasted fresh and healthy. Unfortunately, I work in social services, which means many of my meals are made and consumed at home with far, far less deliciousness. We have been here a handful of times and they never disappoint. -We usually get the greens + grains bowls with supergreens and brown basmati rice. -Of the dips/spreads, our favorites are the crazy feta, harissa, and eggplant red pepper. -The meatballs are flavorful and juicy and delicious! -I'd skip the falafel here- it is pretty dry and flavorless in comparison to your other options! -As for the rest of the toppings, the more the better! We get most of them, but especially like the mint and pickled onions. -We love the lemon herb tahini or spicy harissa dressings to top the bowls off! Annd you cannot go wrong with any of their brightly colored unique juices either. Some of them are too sweet for our liking, but the apple jalapeño is SO yummy with the right amount of sweetness. Even the water here is delicious, infused with cucumber. For less than $10 at Cava, you can get a huge bowl of colorful, fresh, flavorful, absolutely delicious Mediterranean food. If you know me, I don't consider salad a meal; salad is a side. Cava is technically a salad bar but so much better. They offer salad bowls, rice bowls, and wraps. I always get the salad. You have a choice of mixing different greens (romaine, arugula, baby spinach) and they also have a mix called super greens which is a mix of of kale, sprouts and other tasty leaves. Top it with chicken, meatballs, braised beef or lamb. They have a good choice of sauces and dips like hummus, eggplant spread or my favorite spicy feta cheese called crazy feta. The food is very light and refreshing yet incredibly satisfying. The only down side is that they have a limited amount of proteins. I thought the food was very good, particularly the spicy lamb meatballs, and the sauces and dressings are fantastic. Loved the fact that there were many interesting toppings to choose from, particularly the pickled onions. I think two things would be helpful - one, make the wall menus more readable as to what we "do" when we get there, and two, signs by each of the toppings would be hugely helpful. Paleo-friendly (and for the Primals, this is the perfect place to get your BA Salad). I tried this place today and am glad I did. I looked the menu up online so I had a vague understanding of how ordering works (it's like Chipotle with even better quality food and more variety). I was lucky that there was a bit of a lull when I got there, so I didn't feel rushed as there was no one behind me. I got the spinach bowl with pulled lamb (for lack of a better term). It was very hard to hear the counter staff explain what each dish was so I'm not sure what I got. I know I had lamb, a feta sauce of some sort and various fresh chopped veggies. Everything was extremely fresh and flavorful. I wanted an unsweetened ice tea or some unsweetened drink, but it was hard to hear and she could not look at every bottle in the refrigerator behind her so I just got a bottle of water. Tables are extremely rocky, they need to be secured again from all the use and abuse they've gotten. It's very hard to eat when your table is rocking like a teeter totter. Cava is awesome !! I'm so glad they open one in this neighborhood. Reminds me of Chipotle minus the big portions. I love their grilled meatballs and braised lamb. You can mix them if you want to. You get to build your own food by first starting with your base ( pita, salad, rice) and then off to the dips and spreads ( hummus, tzatziki, eggplant) , protein ( meatball, lamb, beef, chicken) and toppings. They have plenty to choose from and it's all sourced from local farmers. If you enjoy their dips and spread you can actually purchase it from Whole Foods. If you want regular water, remember to ask the cashier for a cup, they normally have some sort of lemon infused water dispenser near the drink area for free. read more

When Chipotle meets Sweet Green, you get Cava Grill- Mediterranean style! Same concept. Came here during lunch time, at 12, on a weekday and it was packed! Inside, the line was looped around. I go to Sweet Green next door for lunch all the time and had never been to Cava. For first timers, we were a little unsure at first of how to order things. They have it posted on the top back so you can kind of get an idea. I got to the counter and kind of knew what I wanted to get. You pick a base such as rice, greens, pita etc; I picked green and grains and did half/half of rice and lentils; pick your dip and sauces, you get to pick up to three, pick your protein, I did half/half of braised lamb and chicken; and you get to pick other extra toppings; and salad dressing. I didn't notice prices listed anywhere, which would've been helpful. We got it in a to go container because we weren't going to have time to finish it there, sat and ate until we needed to head back. I loved my salad bowl! I only ended up using very little of my salad dressing/sauce that they give to you on the side because the three options of dip/sauces in the salad was good enough. When we were leaving the place around 1:00, the line had slowed down a lot and wasn't looping around anymore. I will definitely go back for weekeday lunch, maybe around peak lunch hour. read more

I had heard Cava was good from several of friends, and my sister had their food once, so when we were passing through the area, we decided to stop by for dinner. We had just come from a raw food class about sprouting, and I was starving. About 30 minutes before we came to Cava, I had a wheatgrass shot at the class, which gave me a small headache and made me feel slightly nauseous. That was probably why when I ate my grains + greens bowl it lacked flavor and I was sorely disappointed. It didn't taste like much, but I could tell the food was fresh and the falafel was cooked perfectly crispy. I had even tried the roasted red pepper hummus at a party before and it tasted great, so I started to suspect the wheatgrass was to blame for the unfulfilling meal. Luckily, we brought a bowl back home for my dad (who actually didn't want it haha). We decided to save it for lunch the next day, but at about 11 that night I suddenly got super hungry and decided to try some of the Cava we brought home. By that time, my wheatgrass-induced nausea was gone, and everything tasted AMAZING. I almost wanted to eat the whole thing, but it was late so I left it and ate the rest for breakfast (I couldn't wait for lunch!). Tried Cava Mezze Grill for the first time after many walks past the storefront in Mosaic. I really enjoyed my salad bowl with beef meatball and chicken. I wish there was more signage on the choices for each portion of the meal- type of bowl, protein, sauce, toppings, and dressing. Although the servers were very friendly and helpful, you kind of feel put on the spot when ordering if you are unfamiliar. Yum! Cava Mezze Grill is a perfect alternative to Chipotle for vegans/vegetarians. Ordering can be super confusing, but luckily I found the portable menu while in line. Within the menu, you can find instructions for ordering, prices, other menu items like extras & drinks, & a super convenient dietary chart. After perusing the chart, I knew exactly what I wanted, which was the brown rice grain bowl with hummus & eggplant + red pepper dip/spread, falafel, basically all the vegan toppings, and lemon herb tahini. It didn't look like the server put a lot of rice in my bowl, but it ended up being a lot of food, which I thoroughly enjoyed for a full & satisfying meal. I LOVE Cava. It's Mediterranean Chipotle, what's not to love? You start with a base (I always go with a rice bowl). After that you can choose up to three types of dips (I get hummus, tzatziki and crazy hummus). Your third choice is your protein (Depending on how much I feel like spending I will get chicken or braised lamb). You finish your meal with toppings consisting of mainly vegetables. Finally you can top off your meal with a variety of dressings. The location is in the crowded Mosaic District so parking and lines can be a bit much, especially on the weekends. Other than that I'm glad that Cava is located close to where I work and is my go to lunch location when I don't feel like packing a lunch. read more

This was my first visit to Cava Mezze Grill, and 'The Chipotle of Mediterranean Food' certainly is an apt description. They seem to make very efficient use of their retail space. The line moved fairly quickly and the eating area was clean. My dining partner and my combinations were centered around Lukániko, lamb, Falafel, Tzatziki, Crazy Feta, cabbage salad, tomato, and onion. The flavors were good but we both felt that the portions, particularly the proteins, were too small. We ended up splitting a third bowl. My friend was planning to have a glass of red wine, but it was not available. We had Honest Ade Cranberry Lemonade which was okay.
