I was excited to try Rasa. They have a similar concept to other restaurants where you order and build your bowl. I ordered online but I didn't select the correct sauce for the tikka bowl. Thankfully the sweet employee gave me a small portion to add to my bowl. My tikka bowl was overall very good! I enjoyed all the flavors. It was a nice location and was ready when I arrived. I don't expect much at fast casual restaurants but the customer experience at Rasa is unmatched! I went for quick dinner on a Tuesday evening and there was only one person working the counter. But this man was literally the happiest, nicest, and most energetically glowing person I have met in a long time. I met up with a few friends and they all said something about how nice he was on separate occasions. He even came up with mango lassi soft serve samples at the end of our meal which was truly the sweetest touch. I got the butter chicken rice bowl which immediately quelled my sadness about losing Choolah during the pandemic. My samosas were a little bit old and dry, but again customer service made up for everything. Even though this is a local chain, I love how everything in this restaurant is rooted in family and community. There is a picture of the two owners and their dad hanging on the walls, the beautiful signature pink doors were made by family members in India, and the business is a huge supporter of local schools and non-profits in the area. Rasa is one of the biggest supporters and sponsors of Mosaic Center's annual Holi celebration which is a festival my family has attended since my children were small and something we look forward to year after year. It is really fun to see this restaurant grow and become community staples. Can't wait to go back for my next bowl! PS: Don't sleep on the masala chai chocolate chip cookies. So many options & combos. I really enjoyed the chicken tikka with the South Indian noodles, spinach, and a bunch of other toppings & sauces. I feel like I could eat here everyday for a month and have a different bowl every time. Indoor & outdoor seating. It was a nice night so the windows were open and it made for a nice setting. There are also 4 swings inside which is fun! If you're a first timer, would recommend looking at the menu & options in advance. It's hard to know what's what & there are so many options for toppings & sauces! Not sure if this is typical, but there was only 1 person working the whole line + cash register. This review is long overdue. I have been here soooo many times and have yet to encounter an issue with this place. For starters, I love the bright welcoming decor! My kids are obsessed with the swing chairs so that is a nice plus. Customer service is always SUPERB! Props to all the wonderfully friendly staff working here. I ate here today with my family after a few months of not stopping by. I was a little sad that the staff from before wasn't around but the "new (to me)" guys were amazing too! Very knowledgeable, friendly and patient (shout out to Gabriel, and couldn't get the name of the other 2 that helped us). It was the first visit from some family members from my party and all the staff was super helpful in explaining them the menu and patiently answering their questions so kudos to them all! The place is always spotless, which is also very nice. Now on to the food, I always get the same: noodles for the base, chicken tikka, garlic tomato sauce, spicy chickpeas, and a few of their yummy toppings. I love the concept of building your own bowl. And for a fast casual format, the food is amazing! Great flavors, fresh tasting, very nice portion sizes (I always end up with leftovers) and a good variety of options! Right next to the giant Target in Mosaic District, it was a no brainer that I had to try it out! This place has an outdoor dining section so you can watch across the street where the open field was and inside had giant tables and swinging chairs to relax in. This place is very aesthetically pleasing if you like pastel tones and even better since it's clean. Like any fast-casual chain, you can build your own bowl and pick what ingredients you want. I was lazy so I opted for the Harvest Chicken Bowl and a can of La Croix. The Harvest Chicken Bowl had vegetables, lemon tumeric rice, chicken tikka, tomato garlic sauce, cucumber, pickled onions, cumin yogurt, coriander chili and roasted lentils. There's a lot of ingredients here and they all add to the overall flavor of the dish. Surprisingly this had a kick to it and it wasn't spicy enough for me but my nose was running for a bit after eating. The bowl was filling and I'd even say that everything complimented each other even more. I made a great choice and I'd get it again. Would I come here again? Absolutely. I've been to RASA at Mosaic several times because it's one of the only places nearby to get Indian food at lunch. Each time I go, I hope the experience will be better than the last, but unfortunately that hasn't been the case. After my most recent visit, this will be my last time going. The food itself isn't bad. If you're looking for Indian food for lunch, the flavors are decent. However, the customer service has consistently been very poor. I grew up in the Caribbean, so I'm very familiar with spices, curry, and heat. But every time I walk into RASA, I feel like I'm treated as if I don't know anything about the food or like I don't belong there. During my last visit, I was served by Juan C. Before I even had the chance to say which type of chicken I wanted, he had already put the less spicy option into my bowl. He seemed impatient and couldn't wait for me to finish choosing the rest of my order. It felt like he just wanted to rush me out the door. What made it worse was that I was the only person there ordering at the time. Again, the food itself isn't the problem. I stopped by here after spending some time at Sandbox VR for a friend's bday celebration for a quick bite before dinner. The smell was what drew me in to trying and I even convinced my friends to get something too. There were so many options to choose from, but I decided to try the Tikka Chance On Me Bowl. The bowl consists of chicken tikka, tomato garlic sauce, basmati rice, sautéed spinach, pickled radish, kachumber, pickled onions, toasted cumin yogurt, mint cilantro chutney. They served it in a real bowl with real silverware which is rare to see nowadays in a fast casual place. The server was very nice and heavy handed in portion sizes. I would say the portion size is enough for two people to share or comparable to a chipotle burrito bowl. The service of food is similar to Chipotle style, where everything is in a line. They also offer fun drink options, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. My friend got an alcoholic mango lassi and she said it was hard to tell that there was even alcohol in it. The vibe within the cafe transports you away from the bustling of city life. Highly recommend if you need something quick, filling, and different from the typical salads, sandwiches, or chipotle. read more

I then top it off with pickled onions, pickled radish, cucumber, kachumber salad, mango salsa, cilantro, and the mint cilantro chutney. Service is fast, and the selection of toppings is good. It is a pretty good price for the amount of food given. I also got the Mango lassi, which tasted great. I like the food, but I wouldn't say it is my first choice when it comes to fast food. Overall, I would likely not order from here again, at least not the chicken tikka. I would be open to making my own bowl, possibly. We ordered pickup, and I've been incredibly excited to try Rasa since it made its way to Mosaic. I figured there was no better time then when there was the $5 We Got You bowl promo. The food was edible. However, there was maybe no more than a teaspoon of the tomato garlic tikka sauce, the basmati rice and my side of turmeric rice were both undercooked and crunchy, the bottom 1/4 of my bowl was sitting in liquid (not even sauce, it was like soup), and the chicken and bowl overall had very little flavor. The flavor was held up by the strength of the pickled radish and onion and the hot sauce I purchased. My boyfriend ordered the same meal and said it was just okay. Overall, I'm surprised because I hear that the DC locations are fantastic and the escalator area in the building always smells glorious. So I'm not sure what meal might hold that flavor. I would probably be more likely to scope out other spots, but I might be open to giving Rasa a second chance someday. read more

He and his team had just plunged into freezing cold water at the Special Olympics Virginia Polar Plunge at Mosaic, and said that they are all about supporting their community, and everyone who is part of it. Love the huge pink door for entry. It's a fun ambiance and decor with the multi-colored lines throughout and the birdcage seats facing the main park in Mosaic. It's very similar to a Cava restaurant with all of the Indian specialties. Make sure to try all of the add-ons and the coconut curry. Pass on the naan, it's like what you get in the grocery store. I love this place because it is fast service and a close distance to my real estate office for in between meetings or a quick bite after work. read more

Got some coupons in the mail to check out the nearby Rasa (Mosaic District) so tried them for the first time last night. Downloaded the app, which wasn't terribly straightforward due to all the links they make you click through to set things up, but eventually figured it out. As a somewhat picky eater, wasn't a fan of the preset dishes (e.g., "Tikka Chance On Me", "Open Sesame", etc.) that they feature on their menu. It took me a minute or so to realize that you can build your own dish in lieu of ordering one of their preset dishes (under the "You Got This" option - wish their menus were labeled more straightforwardly, nothing wrong with keeping things simple). Ordered the lemon rice with chicken tikka, an add-on of spicy beef, on tamarind chili, which I think is their spiciest sauce. Used their $5 off first bowl coupon (that was mailed to me but is also available on their website), so the order came out to around $11.50, including tax, which wasn't bad at all. Was a pickup order so drove down the street to pick it up about 10 minutes later. Mosaic District has curbside parking for pickup orders so you can park right in front if a spot is available. Rasa is right next to the Target in the Mosaic District so you can also park in the big garage for Target customers, though that's a bit farther of a walk Parked curbside and picked my order up off the to-go shelf, as the order was already ready. To-go orders at Rasa come with a spiffy paper bag, which I appreciated LOL. The food itself was very good. Very tasty and filling. I'd say it's not quite as flavorful or as much food per dollar as you'd get at other Halal spots like the Halal Guys or Kabob Palace but it's on the same level and about as good. Not quite as spicy as I was hoping considering I got what I thought was their spiciest sauce, but was spicy enough and again was a good meal. Pretty decent/average place so far in my books. The Food: It is setup almost like Cava/Mezeh/Chipotle where you customize your entree as you go. I went with a grain bowl that had Turmeric Rice as my base and went with chicken as my main protein. The chicken was slightly bland and lacked some flavor. However the rice was delicious. Adding all of the other toppings really helped increase the flavor of all the ingredients. I'd say overall, my bowl was good but nothing with a wow factor. The Service: The staff were friendly and walked me through any questions I had since it was a new place I've never eaten at. The restaurant was nice and clean and had plenty of seating as well. Happened to revisit the area of Tyson's Corner after more than 10 years and it looks a whole lot more than just a corner, which is a good thing. As for food , I was satisfied with the options that were available but a good refreshing bowl with some fresh veggies , sauces and meats was in order. RASA came up on the feed and not sure if it was the colorful interior or the colorful bows themselves that drew my attention but what the hec, let's try it out. What's the worse that can happen, meats undercooked? Too oily? You can't really get a bowl wrong since you're the one choosing everything from A-Z but of course there are exceptions. When I arrived there was ample parking nearby and it appeared there was some outdoor concert going on which gave me the best experience of walking in the streets. I could see the place from afar because of the popping colors next to the other neutral colored establishments. As I walked in I got greeted by staff and they guided me (being that it was my first time) through all the choices available. After placing my order I got to work on my dish (as you can see in the pic I paused to take) and I must say, it was on par of what I was hoping, almost above par. The variety of sides were well thought out. It's another take on the chipotle business concept and does well every-time. I would definitely come here or to another RAAS again. read more

This just opened summer 2022. Saw that pricing and setup was similar to that of CAVA so decided to give it a shot. This is basically an Indian version of CAVA. For $10.75 you can build your own bowl starting with either/both grain and greens. I got the lemon turmeric rice and arugula. Then you get to pick one 'main' most likely you will pick a protein if you are not vegan or vegetarian. Then you can pick one vegetable from their selection. But fear not they have a lot of toppings you can choose from, not limited to just one like the before ingredients. Finally you can add some "crunch" as well as a dressing. I thought the food overall was pretty good. The chicken was not overcooked and well seasoned. Though I think their pickled toppings are a little too acidic. Adding that to the rest of the Indian food, which already tends to be big on flavor and acidic, was just a little too much. They currently only have 4 types of unique drinks (see pics). But they seem very healthy. None are sodas. I do wish that it came with a free piece of naan similar to how CAVA gives you a piece of pita bread, but unfortunately that is an extra $2. If you were to choose a protein other than chicken (like shrimp, beef, or lamb) that is at min $1 more (see pics for prices). I do like that the food is stored in dutch ovens as opposed to the steel containers found in CAVA or Chipotle. Just seems more upscale and less likely to have rust. I really like the interior design and seating (see pics). It is colorful and vibrant. There are even three swing seats. Plenty of seats outside as well. On a nice day, it will be open to the outside. Interesting enough there are also a few outlets near the seats. Maybe you could come here on a weekday to do some work. read more

I had a great time dining experience at RASA. As a vegetarian, I'm always on the lookout for places that can truly satisfy my taste buds, and RASA exceeded all my expectations. I ordered a Tofu vegetarian bowl using a super green base. The flavors are all Indian-centric, so I call this place the Indian CAVA. The combination of fresh vegetables, perfectly cooked grains, and mix sauces created a texture and taste that left me wanting more. I will admit the service was a little slow but I think it was because they were hit with a huge dinner rush so a lot of the stuff was low and had to wait a bit for things like tofu to be refilled. But it was not bad enough to rank this 4 stars. In a world where vegetarian options can sometimes feel limited, RASA stands out as a true gem. The flavors, the ambiance, and the overall experience are second to none. If you're a vegetarian or just looking for an outstanding meal that celebrates the beauty of plant-based cuisine, this place is a must.
