Chili garlic naan
Ashley B.

I came here for dinner with my friend on a weeknight and it was still pretty busy inside the restaurant. I got the mango lassi as a drink and the lamb biryani for my entrée. I also shared the samosas and pani puri with my friend. Everything was delicious and pretty big portions as well. The spice levels are definitely spicy so I'd say be weary on which level you pick. I love that everything is train themed. The menu, the decor, the names of everything. Really nice date night spot or spot for a large group too.

Mumbai Central was such a fun find in Falls Church. The restaurant is themed after Mumbai train stations, and it felt surprisingly cozy, nostalgic, and homely. The space is beautiful and feels much more upscale than the prices would suggest. I was honestly shocked by how reasonable everything was. The Bollywood music added to the atmosphere and made the whole experience feel even more fun. The restaurant was fairly busy when we visited, so I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the service was. We ordered the chili garlic noodles, ragda pattice (for the full Mumbai street food experience), date naan, and the paneer lababdar that was recommended by the staff. Every single dish was flavorful and delicious. The paneer lababdar was especially good, and the date naan was a pleasant surprise. The bathrooms were clean, parking was easy, and overall the experience was very comfortable. As for the service, the staff were perfectly polite and efficient, though not particularly warm or engaging. Nothing negative at all--just not the type of place where the staff goes out of their way to chat. That said, with food this good and a restaurant this busy, it hardly affected the experience. Overall, the food was absolutely the star of the show. If you're looking for flavorful Indian food in the area, Mumbai Central is definitely worth a visit.

I only ordered a mango lassi to go, so I would like to come back and give this place a try for their food. The worker at the front was friendly and the drink came out quickly. The inside seemed to be decorated nicely and have plenty of seating. Some feedback that would really be helpful is to put the mango lassi in a to-go cup... I'm not sure why it comes out in a sealed tub like it's a bowl of soup. I saw another review criticizing the to-go container, so I think the switch to plastic cups will definitely solve this issue.

I came here with my friend after work and we enjoyed it a lot! We shared our dishes family style and found everything to be delicious. The atmosphere was very cute and the servers were extremely nice and attentive.

Chilly Garlic Noodles!

My wife, 18-year old son, and I were eager to try Mumbai Central after driving by it many times. We did not have a reservation but felt lucky to get a table on Saturday evening at 5:50pm. It was promising to see many South Asian families and repeat customers on a busy evening. Lots of pluses. First, parking is easy and free in the strip mall. Second, the interior is elegant and feels relatively new. Third, the appetizers were fantastic! The chilly garlic noodles (i.e., Indo-Chinese Hakka noodles) were superb (highly recommended) and the Mumbai Coastal Shrimp dish was quite tasty. I think ordering an appetizer is key if you're hungry (it took a while for the main entrees to arrive). Fourth, we enjoyed the lamb rogan josh, tandoori chicken, chana masala, and butter naan. But I think the appetizers were the star of the show. We ordered too much food, but had "to-go" boxes available for carry out. Can't wait to return to Mumbai Central!

We had a team dinner at Mumbai Central last week, a modern Indian restaurant with an elevated interior. The space incorporates light train-inspired details, probably a reference to Mumbai Central, one of India's major railway hubs. The service was fast and attentive, and food came out pretty quickly. KEEMA PAV This came with two dinner rolls, spiced-minced chicken, and sliced red onions, which is a popular Mumbai street food option. It reminded us a bit of American chili, but with Indian flavors and spice. It was the first time we had it, and we enjoyed it a lot. MOMO'S CHICKEN DUMPLINGS (6) Super juicy chicken momos, each containing a good amount of broth. The chicken filling was flavorful, and the skin was the perfect thickness with the slight chewiness. SPINACH +paneer This is a creamy, spinach-based curry with cubes of paneer. The color was a brown-green that was a bit unappetizing. Flavor wise was fine, nothing outstanding. It got the job done, but overall unmemorable. DAAL MAKHANI This was probably our favorite entree we got, which was a rich and hearty black lentil curry made with lots of cream and butter. We loved the combination of smooth and gritty mixed together, and overall pretty flavorful. TANDOORI CHICKEN I tried a small piece of chicken which was incredibly dry, so I didn't eat another. My coworkers were also pretty unimpressed with the texture. GARLIC NAAN This was a great option to eat the curries with if you didn't want rice. Garlic naan was good, but nothing to write home about. KEEMA KULCHA +lamb Keema kulcha is another type of flatbread stuffed with minced lamb. We wanted to try this since we've never seen it before, but it was just OK, and couldn't really pick out the spiced lamb flavors. FRESH FRUIT CUSTARD Not too sweet, creamy custard that was more like a lassi topped with apples, bananas, and pistachios. It was fine, but I personally wouldn't order it again. The appetizers were a strong start, but the rest of the meal fell short. I tried my manager's butter chicken and thought it was weirdly sweet. It's possible we didn't order their standout dishes, though it didn't leave me eager to return anytime soon.

Came here for a team dinner and tried the following: 1 Chicken Momos $9 1 Vegetable Momos $8 1 Kamal Kakdi Chaat $10 1 Chicken Chilly $10 1 Mumbai Coastal Shrimp $13 3 12oz King Fisher $18 1 Mango Lassi $5 1 Vegetable Kolhapuri $15 1 Tandoori Pomfret $17 1 Lamb Rogan Josh $24 1 Butter Chicken (way too sweet) $18 1 Tandoori roti $4 4 Garlic Naan $20 1 Kulfi Falooda $7 Overall, everything was pretty good. Most of the appetizers lean towards fusion rather than traditional. Most if not all of the hot dishes lean towards traditional. Dessert (Falooda) was def not traditional.

Love the Interior concept! Well decorated!! Food: my take ordered the tiki masala, butter chicken, and one of the lamb entrées (I forgot the exact name). Tiki masala was very peppery in the spice was great however, the chicken was pretty dry. The better chicken was packed with tomato flavor and the chicken was actually very juicy. The lamb dish shall be got was actually the most interesting one of all. I really enjoy this flavor as it was quite different from the other two. It reminded me of more of a meat sauce flavor, and the lamb was very tender. My table also ordered them mango lassi which unfortunately was not my favorite. It was quite sweet with not enough yogurt for the tartness. This was a bummer as mango lassi is one of my favorite. Service is super friendly and nice and I found the portion to be quite large compared to other Indian restaurants around the area for the price.

Mumbai Central has been my go-to Indian spot ever since I moved to NoVA, and for good reason! They have a bunch of vegetarian options and all the mains taste great. This place has so much value, even when you order for take out they really don't skimp out on the portions. I love their Indo Chinese as well - I highly recommend the chilli garlic noodles. As for the main dishes, I love the malai kofta! It pairs great with the garlic naan or the chili garlic naan. I've heard if you visit on Sunday for brunch they have unlimited lassi! Overall, a great Indian spot for some hearty food.

This was my first time here. The entire restaurant was train-themed, which was perfect and consistent throughout the entire restaurant, even the menu, bar, the bathroom, etc. They played Bollywood songs, which set the mood for enjoying the food. We came on a Wednesday for lunch, so it wasn't crowded at all. The service was excellent, as they were very attentive. We ordered the following dishes: -Chicken vindaloo (spicy): the flavors did not disappoint, the chicken was so moist -Lamb rogan josh: my first time trying this and I can see what the hype is...very flavorful dish -Paneer makhani: although I'm still not a fan of paneer in general, the flavors were amazing -Mishti doi: my first time trying this dessert, it had a yogurt consistency but very milky/creamy flavor. I think I enjoyed it. -Gajjar halwa: an OG dessert when at an Indian restaurant. There is plenty of parking, shared by other businesses. Would I return? absolutely, if I'm in the area.

Pani puri

Mumbai Central gave us an excellent dining experience. We happened to be in Falls Church and came here on a whim. The food here is top notch. The mango lassi drink was very tasty. We started with the pani puri appetizer. It was flavorful with the potato filling and a slightly eggy taste. For entree, we had the chicken tandoori, malabari chicken, rice, and garlic naan. The chicken tandoori was tender and flavorful. The malabari chicken was creamy and had a wonderful coconut and curry blend. The garlic rosemary naan was fluffy and the perfect texture. The service was just as superb as the food. Danish was very attentive and ensured that we had a pleasant experience. He was patience and helps us through the menu. The ambiance was inviting and clean. We would definitely visit again!

Carrot Halwa
Ankush K.

Man oh man, this place was sooooo good! 1) The ambiance was so unique--they really committed to the train/railway theme and aesthetic. 2) The service was well done. 3) The food, which is the most important part, was an 8/10. We tried a few options like chaat, paneer, carrot halwa, and the naan was great. 4) Sadly, the mango lassi seemed like it came out of a can, but not enough to detract from a 5-star rating. 5) Price-wise, it wasn't bad--they definitely priced it according to what they offer, so I can let it slide. I can't wait to go back!

Vinay V.

Ambiance is top notch with brick and wood and calm lighting. The menu is dairy and meat heavy, but vegan options are still available. They have an open kitchen and a well stocked bar. No complaints about the service given they opened recently. I thought it was good. I had mango avacado salad, malai paneer sashlik, bhindi masala and rosemary naan. Liked them all, along with jal jeera masala. Also I happened to notice a smoked Barbour's being served in a fancy box, something to try if you aren't driving.

A concerted effort towards variety is evident, with distinct proteins and vegetarian choices in specific curries/sauces creating a beautifully balanced array of different colors. I love this. (An example of the opposite: When there's a paneer tikka masala AND a chicken tikka masala on a buffet - I don't count these as being 2 different entrées.) Saffron is way better than the musty neighbor Haandi Indian across the street. A long time local recommended Haandi over Saffron and I believe she must have lied to me about having tried Saffron, because there is absolutely no comparison. Saffron is wayyy better. There is actually flavor and attitude in the dishes at Saffron. Haandi is boring and bland. Pro tip: ask for your naan bread "crispy" and it will come out nice and toasted. Naan is included with the lunch buffet. Would be 5 stars if it were $15. $22 can get you AYCE made-to-order sushi lunch down the street, so $20 for Indian buffet lunch here seems all-the-money. Delicious, though! Oh and another possible star deduction reason: I saw a few stains on some tablecloths at Saffron that appeared to be days-old from not being changed or noticed. This is a "glass top on top of red tablecloth" kind of place. They need to get rid of the tablecloths if they're not changing them with each customer.

Delicious Indian restaurant - great happy hour and brunch spot!…read more The happy hour from 4pm-7pm Monday-Fri is an amazing deal. I ordered 2 dishes and a cocktail for under $20! I requested for the Paneer Tikka Flatbread (not on the menu)- vegetarian version of the Chicken Paneer Tikka Flatbread. The naan pizza was delicious, it was stuffed with cubes of paneer with a side of Tikki Masala dipping sauce. Highly recommend it! You can get the Paneer Pizza next door too! The Paneer Tacos were filling and fun to try, but large chunky blocks of paneer. While I enjoyed the spicy mayo sauce, I wish the paneer was cut up into cubes. It just felt a bit heavy with the paneer. The Spinach Artichoke Fritters (4) were tasty. The Mango Mojito and the Mumbai Mule cocktail weren't that good, but it honestly it's hard to complain when it's only $6/drink. The unlimited weekend brunch at $38 is a great deal and well worth it! You can choose from over a dozen Indian fusion dishe - as a bonus mango lassi, chai, and soft drinks are included! You can order 2 dishes/person at a time and the servers hastily swing by to clear your plates and place your next order! Between the 3 of us, we ordered almost conquered the full brunch menu and had a delightful brunch feast! The food had a spicy kick, but not overpowering and wasn't greasy. The portions range from small, bite-size apps to full, large entree size. There's a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu with a few non-veg as well. There's a good balance between traditional Indian dishes and Western fusion with a hint of American flavors/presentation. My favorite stand-outs: - Aam Chat Papri with crispy Papri pita like chips with mango, chick peas, and potatoes smothered in yogurt and chutney, and topped with spicy garam masala mix - Chana Bhatura with chick pea curry and fluffy, bubbly fried bread. Large portion. - Spinach and Artichoke Fritters - Crispy bite-size balls filled with creamy spinach artichoke dip, 4 come in an order and perfect for sharing! - Aloo Bravas - Crispy, diced potatoes very reminiscent of the Spanish Patatas Bravas with aioli sauce and mild masala spicy kick - Butter Chicken - My friend enjoyed it, solid full entree size. I didn't order or try it in, but it looked pretty tasty and could easily why she made a happy empty plate! - Nutella Bread Pakora - Tastes like a bites-size Nutella fried donut! So good we ordered another one! - Helluva Hallawa Trio - I enjoyed sampling the 3 types of Hallawa, ranging in savory (carrot) to more sweet and milky (my favorite). - Mango Lassi - The sweetness of the mango lassi helped to balance out and absorb the spiciness of the food. - Masala Chai - Great ending to a meal, perfectG caffeine pick me up! Paired well with the Nutella bread Pakora. The other dishes on the menu were fun to try, but would probably skip and save room for my faves: - Aloo Sabzi and Katchuri - The dense hollow shell katchuri (similar to a round empanada) made of dhal lentil smothered in Aloo potato curry sabzi was very filling and dense. After a couple of bites, I threw in the towel. - Egg Burgi and Paratha - The masala spicy scrambled egg on paratha flatbread was kind of bland and a very small portion. - Mango Mimosa - While the mimosas were only $4, it was quite tangy and didn't pair well with the meal. I wish fresh mango juice was used instead of mango flavored juice (tastes like Izzy). The lunch buffet (Mon - Fri 12pm - 2:30pm for $23 wasn't the best experience. Admittedly, I came to the buffet at 1:30pm and the food was tepid and sadly overcooked under the heat lamp. The plates were very small and it was hard to fit a bunch of food. I went to the buffet at least 3 or 4 times to try out the dishes in search of the perfect bite, which I sadly couldn't. There were 5 main standard dishes with 3 vegetarian dishes (Dal Makhani, Aloo Ghobi, and Mehti Paneer) and 2 non-veg featuring both chicken dishes (Butter Chicken and Chicken Curry) and a galore of fried fritters/pakoras (spinach, onion, potato) with a couple of new rotating stations with Pani Puri (not much going on) and Spinach Tikki and Fish Pakora fried fritters. The Mehti Paneer was quite greasy with a coat of grease at the top and the paneer was pretty stiff. It wasn't tender. The Dal Makhani was bland. The potato aloo potatoes were brittle as they were sitting under the heat lamp too long. The best part about the meal was the fluffy naan, which was made-to-order. I enjoyed 2 rounds! Order the Masala Dosa crispy! When we got it the 1st time on the lunch special, it was a bit rubbery and soggy. After the server asked us a few times whether we liked it, my hubby relented and told him the honest answer. The server got the dosa re-made to go extra crispy, which did the trick! The masala potatoes paired well with the dosa. I wasn't a fan of the Sambar. Based on the glowing brunch and happy hour experience, I would come back to try the lunch buffet with an early start right when it opens!

The nice lady working the counter let me have a sample of the chicken before I ordered it and I really liked the spices and heat level. I also sub'd out the chicken peas for their saag (maybe they call it spinach), as it looked pretty legit. Upon digging in, the first thing I tried was the saag and it was spot on, perfect! The greens were stewed down properly and the flavors were what I expect. This isn't the typical bland spinach you get from those "kabob" joints which are boring Afghan or Perian food... this tasted like greens stewed down with curry and spices to bring out a consistent, amazing, deep flavor - one of my favs!! The chicken was really good and tender, and I was realy surprised by how perfect the basmati was as well. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with this visit! Sooo Very Tasty!!! Highly recommend stopping in!!!

I really enjoyed the Paneer Tikka Bowl with coconut curry and spinach saag on a bed of quinoa. I feel like you can get a bit more with the bowl than the traditional Indian plate. The food was bursting with flavor with large chunky pieces of paneer. The cherry blossom soft serve is delicious, I get it every spring! Mosaic District is my favorite location (Downtown DC and Crystal City), the service is great!

The complimentary bread brought out was warm, chewy and delicious. My companion got the kabab-E-Gosfund, which consisted of grilled lamb chunks marinated in spices with saffron rice and chickpeas. Meat was tender and flavorful, rice was aromatic. I got the combination vegetarian platter, which was a choice of 3 vegetarian entrees served with spinach rice. One choice I got the zardak chalow, which was a stew of prunes, chickpeas, tomatoes, and carrots. It was sweet, savory and a little tart. Very unique and delicious. Another choice was the banjan chalow, which was eggplant, onions and garlic in a savory brown sauce topped with yogurt. Eggplant was tender and soft. Yogurt was creamy and complemented the dish. Rounding out the veggie trio was the sabsi chalow, which was pureed spinach with onions, garlic and spices. A side of spinach rice came with the combo platter, also yummy. Will definitely be back!

Service was friendly. I ordered the eggplant and the stuffed bread. The eggplant was so fragrant and I could smell it before it arrived. The stuffed bread was addictive. I wish the complementary bread would have had the mango sauce, which is my favorite, but I still appreciated it. Everything was good and I had leftovers, which made me happy. I'm looking forward to returning and trying more of Panjshir's offerings.
