First off the servers forgot about us and people who arrived after us were seated prior to us. We had to remind them that we were waiting. The food took forever to come and was below average. The waiter Gregory did a great job, but beyond that, it definitely wasn't worth $120. read more

The food is absolutely delicious and cocktails were equally delicious. Unfortunately, the staff and management clearly do not have training on handling a drunk individual who is making a scene at 5:00pm. She was loud, dropping F bombs when there were children right next to her and management did nothing to address her behavior. read more

There is always lots of people here It's good food but they take so long by the time you get it some of it is cold. My girlfriend sent her baked potato back because it was completely hard and they never brought another one. When she brought our check she was apologizing and wanted to know if we still wanted the potato! Wth! I don't frequent this place at all unless I'm invited so no this is not my favorite place read more

Very cool place. Great food at reasonable price. Their meat is cooked as it should be, some places "medium rare" is more rare than medium rare but not here -perfect! Had their jumbo stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer and had no regrets. Wife ordered from their "beef and reef" menu getting steak and lobster and everything was perfect. My rib eye was perfectly marbled and delicious. Their salad and side of beans is served "family style" and portions are freaking huge (I'm fat and still couldn't finish it all). Shrimp cocktail was alright (good not anything to write home about) but their deep fried apple pie was bombastic!! Servers were very nice and not pushy. Ours was Jake, and he knew what was what and made solid recommendations and was very quick on the drink refills and kept hot fresh bread coming like it was going outta style ! Big shout out and thanks to Jake. If you have a big appetite or can really put it away.... you won't be disappointed. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a solid steak house that knows what it's doing (and that's been around for 50+ years). read more

*1st time here Things I have heard: Steak are amazing Baked twice potato Tomahawk special What I did: Ordered the porter house medium-rare, my first take on this was I was going to be able to taste the beef in its entirety but I did not I didn't taste anything. I kept trying to take bites and savor the meat but I couldn't taste anything. I feel If you use steak sauce you kill the experience, I did that I order to get a taste out of my porterhouse and I did not get anything just sauce. Which was not A-1 but it was their steak sauce. I tried but could not find a taste, you ask well what taste are you referring to? I was wanting to taste the steak taste the bloody steak meaty taste you can taste on any medium rare steak I didn't taste that. Our server was pretty spot on, he did everything that he was supposed to, except for dropping a used steak knife on my leg as he was passing by. He didn't even say sorry stained my pants. I didn't even bring it up, the poor kid was swamped. It was a full house on a Sunday evening. But wasn't digging the stained jeans. Here are my pluses: -affordable, prices are fair - house ranch was amazing, you can tell it wasn't a brand sauce they use and if it isn't homemade I need the name of it Asap! - appetizers come out quick I liked that. Overall, I would come here again to give it another try. Tomahawk and baked twice potato are on my radar. read more

After waiting 40 minutes for my order I got home to find that part of my order was missing. I placed an order for my family Christmas dinner and only received half of my order. I did get the croutons for the salad that I didn't get. I didn't get the appetizer either. Hey it's 2020 I do understand but check your order before letting the customer leaves. Right off the bat was able to make a last minute reservation and even when I arrived a bit late I was seated pretty quick. The other people in my group enjoyed their meals. I had to send mine back and they remade it relatively quickly. Besides a few charred pieces it tasted very good. I was on the verge of having a bad experience due to the disappointment of the first steak but the second one turned it around. Just want to say I greatly appreciate the cooks back there. Edit: had to lower the review to a 3 star. Not 30 minutes leaving the restaurant I am glued to the toilet with an upset stomach. read more

The service and server was horrible, during the whole 2 hours we were there the server only came to the table 3 times just to take order bring order and to give us check . Never once did he come to see how are food was. I ordered my steak medium well, received a rare steak that was still bleeding. We were a party of 8 everyone order was good but mine . As I waited for server to come back which he never did 20mins passed and I had to let one of the other servers know my steak was wrong. By this time my party was half way threw there meal another 30mins passed and still they hadn't brought my plate back . By the time my plate came back my whole party was done eating. And not ONCE did I see my server. Lance was the worst server I ever had in my life. I drove 40 minutes just to go have dinner at this establishment just to never get to eat. read more

I can't pass this place without stopping. Although we don't have one in Bakersfield, I will drive out of the way or sometimes make the trip just to eat. Been to 6 of the 8 locations. Steaks are always cooked to perfection. Bread is awesome which is a must for me at a steakhouse. Everything ekse can be blah as far as I care, but it's not. Awesome beans and desserts. Service can be spotty but never too bad. Not much to say or review when the food is good. The food IS GOOD!! read more

I had heard great things about Cattleman's and was super eager to try their food. Sadly, the hype was nothing more than that... hype! I ordered a 10 ounce filet mignon (medium rare) which came with a side salad. When the salad came, one-fourth of it was wilted and brown, and the onions smelled weird. I picked out the wilted bits and ate the rest - begrudgingly! I was hoping this wouldn't be an indicator for the rest of the meal. Finally my steak came and it looked delicious! The first bite was great, but as I got closer to the middle, I noticed it was pink with a slight hint of PURPLE which meant they cooked it rare. The flavor was okay but I've had way better. Some part of the meat were a bit difficult to cut but I finished it. The service was subpar as our server seemed to have her attention elsewhere and was rather late with refills, items I asked for, and overall attentiveness! I would say the best part of the meal was the bread... unfortunately. For the amount of money I paid for the meal... it was definitely not worth it! Never going back to this place again. read more

Finally got around to checking the place out after hearing lots of raving reviews. Our thoughts: The Food: You get a lot of food for the money, so no complaints there. You definitely leave full. As for the quality of the food, it was just OK. Maybe we hyped it up too much in our heads but we were expecting more. Steaks were cooked fine. Crab legs were very dry and "meh" -- the crab legs you can get from Costco were better. Dessert: Deep fried apple pie was amazeballs. The Service: Very friendly and food was very quick. We got there at 4p and were done shortly after 5p. By the time we were leaving, the place was packed. All in all, will definitely give it another try. read more

So I was contacted by Miranda and she was very empathetic with the issues we had experienced. She went out of her way to follow up and resolve the matter. We actually went back for another family celebration and the experience was great. Everything was just as we expected. We were greeted by Dave which made sure through the evening that everything was running smoothly. Our waiter Johnny was outstanding, courteous, fast and very attentive! The food was delicious as always, salad is always fresh, steak is always flavorful and juicy, sides are well prepared and well portioned. It was a perfect dinner for a memorable celebration! We had a party of 10, it was my aunts 60th birthday and this is what she chose. The food took along time to come out and when it did the sweet potatoes were still raw, hard as a rock! As a server how could u not notice. My tab was almost $200 and it was not worth $200 of food. Im so disappointed in this dinner' especially because my aunt traveled over an hour to get to selma! Plus when our server finally served us we only got half of our food and then an 1/2 hour later we got the rest of our food. Never eating there again! read more

Extremely loud but I think that's just the overall crowd that comes here. I will say I got the sheriff steak (medium rare) and oh my god was it chewy. I've tasted quality steak that melts in your mouth and this was mediocre. Definitely a little disappointed in that. HOWEVER.. great servers and waiters truly very on top of their service. Super clean just so so loud and seating was uncomfortable. I wish I could post a better review but I feel like my main issue was the steak, if they bought better quality meat they would have 4 stars. Side note the baked potatoes and my dessert cookie was on the more burnt side. Over all eh it could be better. read more

Plates were dirty, asked for different ones and they brought us more dirty ones. Forgot our appetizer before our entrees. Steak tastes like it was frozen before. The sourdough bread was probably the only good thing but it came with frozen butter so that didn't help. Wouldn't recommend read more

Wow...waited an hour for the food. Avoid Prime Rib...Staff even confirmed poor quality beef. The Rib -Eye was good, but clearly half the thickness of a normal rib eye. These guys are hurting to keep up with steak demand-clearly. Coincidentally, I ordered the bone-in rib-eye and this was clearly not the same as the other rib-eye. I'm not convinced these aren't even USDA Choice steaks. Had a better Walmart rib-eye for breakfast than what these guys are passing for steaks! Was so looking forward to dinner here and utterly disappointed. I had no issue dropping $130+ (for three) on a dinner and yet felt compelled to post this review. Feel like I should posting on BBB then Yelp, TBH. Avoid this place until they get they're act together. Also, they charge for cheese, bacon in their "baked potato and the serving is lightly "sprinkled." We had a waitress come by an offer a "refills," and they charged us for a 2nd drink. Don't offer refills if you're charging for them. Didn't bring water to one of our guests and didn't offer sourdough until end of dinner when we asked about it. Pros: Sourdough and the Costco Vanilla Ice Cream. The staff were kind and understanding, and I appreciate the relative honesty of staff sharing about drop in quality. They credited a few dollars when I asked about the cheese/bacon, "refill" charges. Also, have to thank them for the education to know not to come here again. Seriously, save time and $ and eat at a Tahoe Joe's. read more

Our first visit to Cattlemens. Visiting family in this area and decided to try even after reading some negative reviews. I understand restaurants having difficulty during this pandemic...lack of employees, food delivery etc. We were seated after waiting 5 minutes. Our server Marwin was super friendly and very attentive. He gave his recommendations, my husband asked about prime rib because of reviews. He said we have really good cooks and the prime rib looked outstanding. We ordered the meal for two. Onion string appetizer was sooo good! Salad also great! My husband ordered the ribeye, he said it was very good. I got the prime rib...wow...outstanding flavor and super tender! Brownie sundae was our dessert, we were so stuffed but had to eat it! HaHa! I will definitely be back next time we're in town! Thank you for a nice evening! *My only suggestion for the restaurant would be servers work together. Marwin got slammed with a large party of 12. He was running while other servers were not busy. We waited longer for our check but understood his predicament. read more

There's not much to say about this place. It's a staple of Selma with good food. I've only ever sat at the bar the few times I've been there but the bartenders and waiters are top notch. I've always thought this place was an upscale expensive restaurant but it's really not. (in a good way, not pompous). I'll leave it with this. Do you wanna be in a classy-ish setting and have a nice tall frozen mug of beer after work? Well this place will do it. EXT: Their wings are actually delicious. One of the best I've had. read more

The ribs were ok. The beans were horrible. They tasted like Cambell's soup bean and bacon soup without the bacon or the flavor! Received bad service and food! The waiter barely came to the table. I ordered a ribeye steak and it was mostly fat and the rest of it was chewy and mostly inedible. The steak here at Cattleman's restaurant is delicious. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary and it was the perfect way to wrap up our night. It was pretty packed inside but the wait wasn't long. The waiter was patient with our questions and was making recommendations since it was our first time here. Our steaks were cooked just the way we wanted them, and the sides tasted just as good as the steak. We kept asking for more bread because it was so good lol. I believe that the prices were good for the amount of food that was served to us. Everything was more than flavorful, and we were happy to take home leftovers because it was that good. I got the steak and lobster with a baked potato, a salad, and baked beans I believe. Very good. read more

I recall coming here when I was super young and only remembering the cowboy decor that was all over. Now that I'm older, I really enjoy coming here whenever we choose to. It's close to home and the service quality is really good. It's reasonably priced for a steak house but it's definitely not a weekly place to go. They always make adjustments for my mom who is handicap and accommodate. The sourdough bread with the butter is the BEST and we always ask for more. My husband has been working 6 day weeks for months, 72 hour weeks. He has ONE day off this week and he wanted to take us to a nice dinner. I was excited to go (even though I am not a steak person), because we used to go to Cattleman's for my grandma's birthday and it would have been her birthday tomorrow. Well, my boys suggested we write on the receipt "the bread was good." But we didn't complain. My husband and the boys ordered steak, medium well. Their steaks were extremely rare. Like raw. Just singed on the outside. My husband feels sick. I ordered the crab, and the waiter said there were no crab crackers. I had to use my fork and my hands. It was delicious, but I felt like Daryl Hannah in Splash! We were only offered a dessert on the house, which we didn't want. The bill was over $200. In June 2022 (you know what I mean). It was disappointing. :( I feel bad for the waiter. read more

Fortunately for me, you don't have to be the best dad to celebrate Father's Day. Turns out just being an overprotective hover-dad warrants a special dinner, as well. When the time came to decide, I immediately blurted out "Cattlemen's!!!!" I may have even shrieked it like a little girl and peed a little. I said I MAY have. I'm not admitting anything. I got my usual, the Rustler Ribeye with the seasonal vegetables and blue cheese crumbles to put on the steak. As always, it didn't disappoint. Perfectly seasoned, cooked, and tender as a gentle lover. My kids got their usual, too, which is what I am focusing on for this review, as I somehow left it out last time. At a lot of places the kids menu basically says "hey, here's a bunch of cheap crap your kids won't like, but at least it won't cost as much as your food." The kids menu at Cattlemen's, on the other hand, says "try not to steal your kids' food because it's awesome, even though it comes at a very reasonable price." They chose Pete's Jr. Special, which is a 5 oz. steak, and they chose fries for the side. They like their steak medium (pink in the middle). I think I've ruined them by refusing to prepared them cremated meat when I grill. And cremated meat is exactly what you get with the kids' steak at most restaurants. I've often even gotten that for the adult meal. At Cattlemen's it is truly cooked to order. Their steaks were a perfect medium and seasoned up great. It was sirloin, so not quite as good as my ribeye, but the seasoning and preparation made it a great contender. I wouldn't have been disappointed if I had ordered it for myself. And for $8.50, you can't complain about the price either. This time, in spite of having eaten their entire meal and a significant amount of my steak (this is not indicative of small portion sizes--my kids love good food), they still had room for dessert? Don't we all really always have room for dessert? We just lie to the waiter when we're feeling cheap, right? Anyhow, they ordered the Cowpoke Brownie Sunday. For $2.50!!!! It's a warm, delicious brownie, topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, Oreo cookie crumbles, whipped cream (which my kids passed on) and a cherry (also passed). I loved that it was a good-sized portion, but not an enormous monstrosity that is going to give you instant diabetes like most restaurants. Being Father's Day, I exercised my right to have a single bite of their dessert. It was like heaven. I was transported to another plane of existence. They had to slap me and pull their dessert back, as they worried that in my entranced state I would eat it all. It was so good. All around this was the best meal any of us had since we came here for my birthday. And it was great to know that my kids were enjoying their food as much as I was, even though the restaurant is basically giving it away. Thank you, Cattlemen's, for another outstanding meal! read more
