Was in Selema and craved some mexican food. Found this place on Yelp nearby. Clean and friendly service. Ordered the one entree and three entree plates and also a sope. The plates were hot and cheesy. Enchilada was good; rice and beans warm. The sope ; however was hard; had a hard time cutting it even with a knife. Was a lot of dough. Wouldn't order again.

Macho nacho with shredded beef. HUGE serving! So good!

We have been eating at Sals (Selma) for well over 20 years. Total hidden gem. It's smack dab in the middle of a residential area in Selma California. The owner is often on site. And he goes out of his way to make sure to talk to as many customers as possible. This place is the epitome of "family" even when the OG employees aren't here, the newer staff always goes above and beyond. You feel welcomed from the second you walk in the door. Typically my husband doesn't stray from the fancy. But he loves the enchiladas, shredded beef tacos and occasionally he will have a tamal. I try to order something new the majority of the time, but the macho nacho calls to me. No matter what we have, sals always hits the spot.

We stop here annually for the World Ag expo and everything we tried is delicious. The enchiladas, burritos and salsa is very good.

I hadn't been to the original Sal's in about 15 years. We went in for a late lunch and although they were pretty busy, we were seated fairly quickly. I had the taco enchilada combo with rice and beans. Everything was very good and waitress was super friendly and helpful.

I love Sal's it's been around a very long time, and family owned and operated in the heart of Selma. I've been going here since I was a kid and the food is always top notch and has always stayed the same. Consistency is key that's what I like to say. The restaurant feels like home, it's always busy too. The staff is friendly, efficient and welcoming. We went the other day and my aunt ordered a weird mixture of items and they made exactly what she asked for and she loved it. I didn't take a picture of it because it looked like a pile of mush. We ordered 6 fancy burritos to go, 3 are heading back to Arizona for my uncle who grew up eating them. It's one of his favorite meals and always ask for her to bring them back home. And yes they make it back in an igloo and dry ice.

What can I say about Sal's that probably hasn't already been said? I've been eating here since I was a little girl and it's still great. I love the salsa served with the chips and the entrees are always good and cheesy! The building itself hasn't changed much over the years. It's a family restaurant that serves good food fast and the service is really friendly. I was impressed with how efficient the place has gotten with seating. I was there on a weekend during lunch so there were quite a few people waiting to get seated. The hostess and wait staff were really good at getting people seated quickly and efficiently. We waited maybe ten minutes and everything came out quick and delicious. If you're in the Selma area, Sal's is always a good option for lunch or dinner.

My family and I have been going to Sals for over 34 years but the food and service changed, we put in an order for 1 chile verde nacho. Finally we get the nachos and I open it and the portion is half of the portion it usually is. The chips are burned. Some of the cheese isn't melted and the sour cream and guacamole were put on the side. It was just a mess, so I go in to talk to the manager who said his name was Sal which I'm assuming is the grandson or a family member that has taken over management I tell him that this isn't acceptable, we pay $22 for this and this is not what we ever get and for waiting this has to be remade. He stops me and tells me " well nachos aren't a good food to go. You should've really ordered something else." I didn't know what to say. Someone who has been in the food industry for over 15 years and management can't wrap my head around putting an item on your menu that you were going to chastise the customer because you fell short and don't want to take accountability. I asked him to please remake it that this just did not look good. He had attitude and said " I'll just go back there and make it myself from my hands." About 10 minutes later he walks out, hands me the foil to go and says "you should really get something else next time because nachos just don't travel well" and I couldn't believe he was still stuck on that and I told him I've been ordering this for years to go and my family and friends have been coming here for over 30 years and he said "well, that's my recommendation but I made these myself so I'm sure they're to your standard." Got in the car got to a destination, which is about 10 minutes away, opened it and he literally went into the kitchen poured so much sauce over it pour more cheese no extra chips and just put it back in the oven to warm so now I have soupy chips, burn chips under half melted cheese over, other cheese on top and still the wrong portion. I immediately called and Sal got defensive. I explained to him how it's absolutely disgusting that he would take food that came from outside back in there and put it in the kitchen to add more on top instead of making something fresh and if this is his integrity, I can't imagine why they would appoint him as the new manager. He then told me that the nachos were great and I shouldn't have chosen to order those to go and that he made them perfectly and if I have a problem I can reach out to corporate. I let him know this was only $22 that I just wanted a refund and I would never be returning. He said I had to reach out to corporate. I reached out to corporate and the persons name is Karly, which is clearly another family member appointed to another family member that has no idea what they're doing. This goes to show that she and him are just spoiled children family members raised up in the business, but have no clue about hospitality, management or customer service. I told her exactly what happened and I told her I had a picture of it and she told me that she'd have to "open up an investigation" that she was sure he would never take food that's been out on the floor back into the kitchen and tamper with it and that if that's the case that she will refund it, but she's almost positive that's not the case I told her it's $22 why can I not get a refund? It's not as if I put in a catering order for hundreds of dollars, what is there to investigate? I'm unhappy I have pictures. Why all of this? Two days later, I get a phone call with her saying that she was going to refund the nachos and that she's sorry for the incident. I didn't really have anything to say to her. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that they go through an "investigation" instead of just taking accountability. If he talks to customers that way I feel bad for the staff, having a manager who takes no accountability, is argumentative and condescending is a really toxic work environment. I hope losing my families 34 years of business was worth your $22 of ego Sal, they should've kept you in the back of house because you are going to be an absolute money drainer for that restaurant.

We placed a phone order for party platters for our staff, and JJ was extremely professional and helpful. He gave us all the details we needed to order the right amount of food. The order arrived on time, and everything was fresh and delicious! We got the party platter with two sides of rice and beans, sour cream, chips, and salsa. The staff loved it, and we were very impressed with both the service and the quality of the food. Highly recommend!

This was my first time visiting this restaurant in Selma. I have visited the other Sal's in Fresno and Madera. They were both good and this one did not disappoint either. I had chili verde with chips and a salad. Both were delicious and I would definitely come back.

    Short Rib burrito

I would like to provide an impartial and thorough evaluation of this well-known establishment in Fresno County. My father grew up in Selma, California, and the original owners, Sal and Eleanor Salazar, were close friends with my parents. I remember my parents helping the Salazars with their annual tamale sale during the Christmas season at the original restaurant established in 1942 on the old 99 freeway, also known as the Golden State Highway. After Mr. Salazar's passing, Carl and Bobby Salazar continued their parents' legacy by recreating authentic and flavorful dishes, including the signature slowly cooked shredded beef that is so tender it can be eaten without a knife. Recently, while in town for a family funeral, I decided to take my wife to experience the Short Rib burrito with my preferred Chili-Con Carne baste. As a food enthusiast, I also ordered the shredded beef taco, without informing my wife and picky teenager. My wife and I live in Nevada, and she had never tried this burrito before. I knew she would provide an impartial assessment because she enjoys cooking homemade dishes from scratch and blending her favorite chili from our garden to prepare Mexican cuisine. As she took a bite of the burrito, I noticed her expression of approval as she exclaimed, "Wow, this is incredible!" One thing I can say with certainty is that Carl Salazar's and the Sal's establishment maintain the same distinctive flavor and taste that I remember from my childhood. I'm sure that Sal and Eleanor are incredibly proud of Carl for preserving this family's secret of authentic flavors since 1942.

Next thing, where to go. Selma has many iconic restaurants -Sal's, Rosalinda, Antonio's. But I had never heard of Rodolfo's. It came highly recommended by a few of us attending, so we gave it a go. One thing we had going for us is that we had a man on the inside who could hook it up. I was hoping it meant free food, but that wasn't the case. But we did get our own private room, so that was nice. Some recommendations were made, but I was split between the nopales, chile verde nachos, Rodolfo's special, Selma special and chile verde plate. In the end, I went with the namesake Rodolfo's special. I was told that the taco it came with, the Selma taco, was named such, because it won a taco competition in Selma. All the more reason to try it, right? Didn't have high expectations for the chile verde chicken enchiladas, but I like chile verde and enchiladas, so why not. Service was quick. In no time we were all served and chowing down. My plate was very hot and I could still hear the meat in my tacos sizzling, so I wisely started with the enchilada. The flavor was great, my only issue was the chicken, because it did chicken things that chicken does. But it was still good, don't get me wrong. After that, I waited on my taco to cool down. Yeah, it was that piping hot. It was good, but not great. I think it was the partially fried tortilla. It's something that they have to do though, given how loaded the taco is. A limp tortilla would not be up to the task. I know some people like some structure to their taco. I don't mind getting down and dirty. Personal preference. I have to say, the middling reviews had me a bit worried. Getting VIP service ensured that we were taken care of though. Side note experience that I didn't have. A friend felt like he got overcharged. $16.95 dinner plate with water and his bill came out to $24. He didn't want to make a thing about it. It wasn't that big a deal for him. But for others, it could be. All in all, we had a good time. Our server was nice. They gave the 9 of us our own private room. My buddy probably broke their door and they just laughed about it. Your experience may vary but this was mine.
