Ok!! We've been here a few times these last few months and can normally overlook some sub par issues, but I'm done after tonight. First off, the salad and bread are fantastic but they insist on giving you rock hard butter. What's wrong with room temp butter so that its easily spreadable on bread?? Anyway, every single time we visit, our sides are always ice cold or the loaded sweet potato tastes like onions and has that weird refrigeration taste, or the rice is overly dry and tasteless. Tonight was no different but we go because we like the steaks. My petite filet was barely warm and my baked potato had a sugary taste to it. I figured they cut the potato open with a dirty knife. My daughter's salmon was like a dried up cold icicle. But the worst part was my husband's prime rib. It was greyish/shiny brown. It smelled absolutely rancid, I thought he was going to be physically ill at the table. The waitress said she could smell it when she brought it out but thought it was the fish!!! WTH?!? I don't know how the kitchen didn't see that this meat was rotten. This place has some serious kitchen issues. If the sides are consistently cold, that means nobody is checking proper temperatures. If the potatoes have flavors they're not supposed to, it's because they're not properly stored or being cross contaminated with the cooking utensils. If the meat looks or smells bad or you wouldn't eat it, then don't plate it up and serve it!!! I also want to add, the salt and pepper shakers are filthy. Like food stuck to them. How are these not cleaned by the servers daily?? If these problems are problems anyone can see, it makes me wonder what else is going on behind the scenes. We finally complained tonight but I don't feel management made it right. The right thing to do when food is uneaten and there is something wrong with it, would be to NOT CHARGE for it. They still charged me $30 bucks for my steak, I'm not sure why since I didn't eat it. With how expensive things are today, I won't be wasting my precious money on this place anymore. read more

While it started of well with great bread, the quality slowly trickledown to 2.5 stars; however, since we can't put half stars and the service and food was closer to 2 than 3, I gave them 2 stars. The loaded potato skins were bland and needed salt, the salad had wilted lettuce and the baked beans were drab. The steak was good but not enough to make a difference. read more

Food was terrific. Service was excellent. I wouldve given 5 stars but they "ran out" of the Tbone Steak Special which they have every Tuesday. You'd think they were more prepared to order MORE Tbone steaks for TUESDAYs when they run their special. ‍ it is what it is. Salad was unlimited, as was the warm sourdough bread. The beans were cold.... and even worse, they weren't "baked" beans like we hoped... they were more "ranchero" style. So, no Tbone special, so I opted for the 2lb Porterhouse (YES, two pounds!) Steak was cooked PERFECTLY. The bbq sauce on the table was EXCELLENT. I had to buy 2 bottles ($6.99). BE AWARE: The sauce has WALNUTS listed as one of the ingredients, so if you are allergic, STAY AWAY from it!!! I feed bad for you though....it is so good! Parking lot is HUGE. 3 solid stars for the customer service. The servers were so sweet and friendly! I drove 40 minutes to try this restaurant somewhat disappointed. When I walked in I could smell the carpet right away, smelled like mildew. The water tasted horrible, ice machine might need to he cleaned. We were served our dinner before our appetizer. They comped the appetizer. My Steak was cooked perfectly but unfortunately it tasted burnt. U couldn't get the burnt taste out of my mouth. Seems as if the grill was too hot for the small steak. Came here for Father's day. I had an 830pm reservation and still had to wait 30mins to be seated. It was pretty warm inside they needed to put the a/c a little lower. They ran out of the wings for an appetizer so I couldn't order them and they had also ran out of certain meats which was surprising. I asked 3 different people including my server for a refill on my drink and on bread and literally when my check came so did my refill and the bread. Selma is a small town and to have this wonderful place to eat is a blessing. Quality, Good hearty steaks, unlimited salad, bread, and baked beans. I dare you to go to the grocery store and buy a steak for what you can get at Cattlemens. Plus, no prepping, cooking, or clean up. The prices are reasonable. My favorite is Pete's special that comes with a drink. That includes wine or a beer. Or try the porterhouse steak that's $36 and is as big as your face. My Husband and I went out for dinner after my Uncles funeral service on Friday night 07/09 we've never been to Cattlemans we had a bad experience when we checked in but I'm not going to put this in the review we spoke with The General Manager and I'm sure this will be addressed and by the the way the gentleman was so very kind and listened to our issue without interrupting us. But our server who attended our table was the nices young man so polite great customer service and her was a Dodgers fan we are Giant's fans so him and my husband we joking about back and forth. To say, I was very disappointed in this place is an understatement. First, it's in a dark lit area of town, and the parking lot doesn't feel very safe. There is very little lighting. When we checked in the hostess wasn't very friendly. We did call two weeks ahead of time to make a reservation and waited 10 minutes before they escorted us to our table, only half the table was set and the other half still had the bus tray with dirty dishes and cups sitting on it. The hostess removed the tray and said the boy would come with the remaining table settings. We did not receive the table settings until we had to ask for them once we received our meal. The tables were cramped & servers couldn't get around them to get to other booths safely. A server almost dropped an entire tray of food on my father. We've eaten here before and don't recall this kind of situation. We ordered the onion straws as an appetizer and it came with very little onion and majority fried flakes, as if they just emptied the bottom of a fryer onto the bowl. It was disgusting. The food took forever to get to us. Once it finally did, Everyone said their food was just all right. Unfortunately, my burger was pretty dry and I had to add a lot of barbecue sauce to make it moist. When we made the reservation, we informed them that this was a birthday celebration, and when we checked in, we were asked and we told them it was a birthday celebration and then when the hostess sat us, she asked and we told her it was a birthday celebration. The table behind us received a birthday shout out and song from the waiters and a dessert at the end of their meal. When it was our turn, it never happened and the waitress and restaurant manager didn't even acknowledge it. Overall I would give this experience a 3 out of 10. My father says he won't come back. With all the price hikes that's going on in the restaurant industry now in California, if we're going to spend over $300 on food, we expect the food and experience to be great. the rack of herb crusted lamb is out of this world delicious for sure ! I always do enjoy the wonderful hot bread and big salad for the table also. With that being said, on my baked potato when you put a couple of small pieces of bacon, and a small sprinkling of cheese and charge me $2 extra (and didn't tell me) it isn't a good thing after I pd almost $50 for the lamb. And you have a beautiful picture of TWO pieces of corn on the cob right on the table for an appetizer for $5 and bring ONE piece of corn on the cob ? Really ? Excellent food and service. I enjoyed my ribeye very much. We got the dinner for two with the onion straws, a steak with potato for each of us, and the fried apple pie to share for dessert. All were delicious. The only thing keeping it from 5 star is that the bench in the booth was broken in the bottom so less comfortable than it should be. read more

We drove 4 hours out of our way to savor a meal at Cattlemens while traveling up California's Central Coast. We we not disappointed. Though the restaurant is not easy to spot from the streets, our GPS guide zeroed us in. My wife ordered the beef ribs (half) that were enough to feed two people! along with a great salad, hot sourdough bread and butter and baked sweet potato with pecan butter. She was in heaven! I ordered the salmon, baked sweet potato, salad, and sourdough bread. The Salmon with dill sauce was delicious and all the fixins made for a very hearty early dinner that gave me the energy to drive 5 hours back home. Aside from the great food, out server, Dayna, was simply outstanding. Her warm greeting, easy smile and "on the spot" service made our whole meal special. I wish they had one of these in Massachusetts because their food is phenomenal. This place gets very busy and has seating capacity for half the city so you are going to have to wait to get in and service may seem slow but that certainly doesn't mean lack of quality. The quality of the food is superb and both my steak and my dad's melted in our mouths because they were cooked to perfection. The sides alone (mushrooms, onions, beans) all could be eaten on their own because they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. I read a lot of the reviews for this place and find it hard to believe that people have such bad experiences but don't give them the opportunity to fix it. They just complain for the sake of complaining. Every restaurant serves tap water!!! It's not a surprise. The wait staff is quite large and they never stop moving. These people work really hard for their paycheck so if you are not willing to wait then you are at the wrong place. I would go back again and again if I lived in the area. Unfortunately I was just visiting so sadly I am back in Massachusetts now. I highly recommend going to this place if you are a steak lover. Cattlemens is one of our favorite restaurants and we visit a few times a year. It is our go to steakhouse. Tonight was just not their night. The service was very good as is the case most of the time. The sides were very good (I ordered a loaded potato and my wife ordered twice baked potatoes) and the salad was ok. Both of our steaks however (ribeyes) were not cooked to our specifications, nor did the cut of meet seem like it was up to their usual quality. We both ordered our steaks cooked medium and we received well done steaks. My steak did not have any pink at all. We purposely visit early in the evening before the rush to avoid steaks cooked this way but it didn't work tonight. We visited Texas Roadhouse while traveling recently and these steaks were comparable to the cuts of meat we received there. read more

It was great, after fixing and eating thanksgiving food, since starting prep, last Sunday, to take a break and have some of Cattlemen' s delicious baby back ribs. They did not disappoint. Melt off the bone into your mouth, just the right amount of sauce. I had the steamed broccoli and my mom had the twice baked potato. Bread was fresh, salad fresh, and the cowboy beans are always flavorful. Service was great, order was quick and correct. It was ready when they said it would be and was still hot, after a 10 mile drive back home. A great change from turkey, with enough leftover to have ribs and a turkey sandwich tomorrow. This is the third time order to go from Cattlemen's since Covid hit, they're service and food for take out has been consistently delicious and fresh. So if you're ready for something delicious and fresh, head over to Cattlemen's , to "gobble" down some melt in your mouth ribs.
