Line. was forced to get something extra because their bagels are $8.50 and everyone is coming to Catskill Bagels for...you guessed it: the bagels. I was forced to buy the first thing I saw which was a blueberry muffin for like, $4.00. Got home and it is so old and stale I couldn't even get the paper off it. Inedible. So yeah, the bagels are just fine (when they get it right), but overpriced to begin with and now that you have to spend at least $10, you might as well go get a real breakfast anywhere else on Cortelyou. Thats more expensive than a snapple. For the BEC, the eggs werent freshly made like it came from a premixed boxed egg liquid solution. The iced mocha was too sweet and didnt taste like mocha. Instead, it tasted like sugary imitation fake chocolate syrup but not the good kind. The colombian coffee was avg. I was not aware that the regular coffee size was a large. NOTE: this was written in 2022. I have not visited this business since seeing what is described in the bottom of this review. I have been going to Catskill Bagels for a long time. It's taken some time to arrive at this review, but it is fair, it is honest, and it is from experience. Yes, the owner is a maga-hat wearing blue lives matter type. She will not like you if you are wearing a mask, and as others have noted, there is some questionable attitudes toward non-white patrons. Honestly though, it's hard to stop patronizing businesses in south brooklyn due to seemingly unnaccepting/prejudiced behaviors, because you literally will have very very few places to go (particularly with old hat/traditional spots). Bagels are good, but they frequently let stock go stale. This neighborhood is a dead-zone for bagels though, so if you are hankering, yes this is better than sunset or nearby cafes. I had been going here years because of the bagels. When they're quality, they are good. But I saw something I can't unsee. I used to get iced coffee here. Well, I saw the owner/manager empty the tray of old iced coffee back into the machine, then throw the rest on the floor and walk away. That is absolutely disgusting and this place should be shut down by the health department. Totally unnacceptable and it makes me wonder about other practices they have going. read more

My order was a scallion tofu cream cheese bagel with onions (gross I know). The first time they asked if it was garden veggie cream cheese - nope. Second time if it had tomato - nope. EAT ELSEWHERE In my time at CBC I witnesses almost every customer have to repeat their order at least 3 times, and no staff person ever writes down an order. I'm guessing this is a strategy on the part of the grumpy owner to overcharge, because she can just make up prices. The owner who runs the register decidedly rings up orders in her head, ignoring the register in front of her, and then seemingly tacks on an additional surcharge based on her opinion of you in the moment or based on how she is feeling at any given time. Prices vary from one customer to the next and from day to day. I witnessed the owner incorrectly ring up a customer's order, and then demand her empty her bag so she could check what she had left off of the first ticket. The owner always complains that she is busy, but in reality, she is just not suited for a front-of-house role. All of this could be tolerated if the food was good, but it was decidedly not. The owner of this place is a nasty piece of work. Charged me an extra dollar for a small iced coffee - $4.25. (I realized this a day later because I went the next day and her employee charged me $3.25) I wanted to jot down a note and I asked the employee for a pen, and when I reached for a flimsy napkin to write on, the owner literally snatched it from my hand --"Don't use that," she says -- and gave me a dirty receipt. "I need that for my iced coffee I just paid for," I told her. And took two extra. (Note to restaurant owners: Don't grab things from your customers' hands! Especially cheap napkins! You can afford to let us use napkins.) Meanwhile she's yelling at her poor staff while customers are in there. (Not that it'd be great if customers weren't in there!!) My point is, I never write Yelp reviews but her attitude and contempt for both staff and customers means I will never set foot in there again. Lady, if you're reading this: you might want to take a look at how you treat people. It is not OK. The first comment I read here says that you're rude and racist. This place may have the worst customer service I've seen in years. They are rude on the phone, always hanging up on you and it doesn't get any better in person. The boy that usually works in the mornings, on weekdays (short hair cut & caucasian), charged me $2 extra than what I normally pay. I assumed they raised their prices but then I witnessed him taking $2 out the register and placing it in the tip jar. He overcharged me $2 and when I asked him how much a bagel with turkey bacon and eggs white was, he said $9.75. I come to his bagel shop three times a week. This is racism. The bagels are decent given the dearth of competition in the area, but one of the employees (an Asian girl) is a complete jerk. (I'd actually use a stronger word.). For example, I've seen the place mostly empty and while eating a bagel have been told to leave while right behind me a couple is chatting away. Mind you this is while I haven't even finished my bagel, the place has adequate seating available (well below allowed capacity), and I'm wearing a mask. Frankly they are just weird. I mean, I just saw the other reviews and I'm not surprised. Apparently I'm not the only one with this opinion. I think it's the one Asian employee. Not because she's Asian just because she is needlessly rude. You're working at a bagel store! Maybe she's just angry she isn't good enough to make more of her life, and is bitter. But karma will play its hand soon enough I'm sure. If I were the owner I'd fire her. She is turning off customers, including this one, who was spending upward of $70 a week there (including delivery). Well those days are over. Connecticut Muffin is right down the street and while the bagels might not be quite as good, they are the sweetest people and always treat the customer right. And they have indoor seating as well. The only fresh bagel shop in the area features decent bagels, meh coffee, and poor service. This review is based on three visits within the past week. Doesn't open on time in the morning; coffee condiment bar is poorly maintained and dirty. Staff is generally good at giving you what you ask for but will not help you by offering to slice or toast bagels. Overall attitude of bare minimum pervades. Other reviews mention an Asian girl, but the Tallish white man and the shorter Hispanic woman were the ones that disappointed me on my visits. With a front of house so poorly maintained I would not be surprised to find a dirty kitchen in the back. This business started as a very welcome newcomer to the area: bagels and coffee down the street from the subway, a playground, a library, and a school. Open during COVID but they are not following regulations such as wearing face coverings. There are always cops here, and the cops are the worst for this; not wearing masks, egging on staff to not wear masks, and heckling customers who request them to keep at a safe distance and to wear masks.
