Carne Asada buritto
Davey G.

If you like fat burritos and friendly service then this is your new Mexican food stop in Lone Pine. After a 10 hour drive I stopped at Castro's based on all the Yelp reviews..... Can confirm a 5-Star experience The carne asada burrito reminded me of a bus. It's heavy and loaded. Very fresh and flavorful meat, beans, rice, onions, and cilantro. I asked for no salsa on the burrito and had a side of hot sauce which was delicious. Very friendly, fast, and delicious. There are plenty of clean tables under the patio cover to dine in. Love this place, I'll definitely stop here on roadtrips

The tacos de asada and adobada are super flavorful

What brought me here were all the excellent reviews. This place did not disappoint! As soon as I got near the food truck, I could smell the goodness in the air. Brought back childhood memories during my family's trip to deep Mexico. The tacos de asada and adobada are super flavorful, but the asada takes the cake. It tastes like it was grilled and not cooked over the griddle. The salsas are really good and bring the taco to a whole different level. I will definitely make sure to visit them every time I drive down the 395.

Best taco shop ever!

We stopped here on a hunch as we noticed several big rigs pulled over and the drivers headed here. This place did not disappoint! Best road burrito we've ever had!

Cash only! The tacos were loaded with tasty meat! I had asada, cabeza, and adovada and they were all fantastic!! Super flavorful with a good spicy kick to them. Wish I had gotten a photo of them but we were so hangry they all disappeared before I could. Unfortunately we got there during dinner rush which took our tacos 40 mins to get after ordering. This was my only issue. I'm definitely coming back and hoping the lines are shorter. If not for the wait, this place is easily a 5 star taco shop. We initially drove right past this place as its a little hard to find, but going North its a left turn just before the Mobile gas station. Theres a few parking spots in the back but also very hard to find.

Incredibly delicious burrito- coming from a San Diegan! Carne asada cooked incredibly well, super tasty. Solid tortilla. Good green and red salsa. Very nice service . Cash only and Venmo. I'll definitely come back next time I drive through .

Good Mulinas and sauces, price was right, selection was scant, but convenience could not be beat. Friendly staff.

We just sampled the carnitas, pollo, and asada tacos. Probably top five of my life. Haven't found tacos this good in Portland yet.

Kumazaa Nobi - Tacos & the Eastern Sierra Range

Kumazaa Nobi

There are stretches of Highway 395 that seem to run through the very soul of California--wind-swept…read morevalleys, snow-capped sierras, and forgotten gas stations with faded signage and stories to match. I've driven this road more times than I can count--always in a hurry to reach June Lake, Mammoth, or somewhere that sounds like a destination. And each time, I pass the same towns, the same reservations, the same hand-painted signs, barely noticed as they blur past my window. But today... today was different. Somewhere near Fort Independence, the kind of place most maps barely nod to, a sign caught my eye: "Indian Tacos." Nothing fancy. Just those two words, painted with purpose. As a member of a tribe myself, I pulled over. Not just out of curiosity, but a sense of kinship--and hunger. Mostly hunger. The setup? A weathered travel trailer, charming in its honesty, not trying to be something it's not. I approached with an open heart and a growling stomach. A kind man greeted me with a smile and said the words that every road-weary traveler longs to hear: "I make the fry bread fresh." What followed was nothing short of a spiritual experience. The Indian Taco was a masterpiece: pillowy-soft fry bread that could bring a tear to your eye, topped with perfectly seasoned meat, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and fresh salsa that tasted like it had been made that very morning--because it probably was. I told my friends. They grimaced. "You ate what from where?" they asked, horrified at the idea of eating from a rundown trailer on the side of a reservation road. But that's the difference between us. Some people need Michelin stars to validate a meal. I just need fresh fry bread and someone who knows what they're doing. Kumazaa Nobi, tucked away on the Fort Independence Indian Reservation, isn't a stop--it's a discovery. A reminder that the most unforgettable meals don't come with white tablecloths or curated playlists. They come with heart, heritage, and a good dose of adventure. Next time you're on 395, don't blink. Don't rush. Stop. Eat. Say thank you. You'll be better for it.

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and there was live music playing, which made the atmosphere even more charming. We ordered the Big Pine Mega Platter (says for 2), and it was just perfect for my husband, teenage son, and I to share without any leftovers. All the meats were juicy and tender! Potato salad was good and mac was nice and creamy! We love the spicy bbq sauce as well! Overall everything was delicious and food came out fast. Really glad we stopped in, and we're already looking forward to coming back again soon.

The first red flag was that we wanted to call with a question and found that the voicemail response and website were both borderline hostile and disdainful of customers. The location was clean and the female cashier was very nice, which is why my review is two stars and not one. The food was odd. I can't understand why anyone is rating this highly except that people are happy when they're on vacation and food tastes better that way. We shared a platter and were completely underwhelmed by all of the meat. The rolls and mac and cheese were okay and that's what I ended up filling up on because the meat was depressing. The two spicy BBQ sauces both had a weird metallic flavor. There was a TV showing a slideshow of dogs at the restaurant eating BBQ from someone wearing black latex gloves which was kind of cute until I started wondering if they change their gloves after feeding all these dogs from them. But more importantly, I saw a sign complaining about inflation and fuel prices being the reason for an increase in costs, along with Trump merchandise for sale by the drinks. A tiny bit of online digging confirmed that this business was fully MAGA in the past with flags and signs but got a bit quieter about it in 2024. I believe it's important to know if and when we're spending our money to support people who actively vote for the destruction of the planet, human rights, and the fabric of our country. I absolutely would not have spent any money here if I had known.
