I had my road bike for the past seven years, and used it only a handful of times outdoors. Even after a professional fitting, it was really not my style. The bike is too aggressive and responsive for my taste. My neighbor highly recommended John from Castro Valley Cyclery. I thought I'll be needing a refit, but after speaking with John he suggested different ways for me to enjoy my ride. I told him my disappointments and how I picture bike riding. He led me to a road bike he is converting and asked if I'm interested to switch to a hybrid. Right then and there I left my road bike so he can begin checking for parts and be able to provide a quote. Fast forward a month after my bike is ready, just in time for the long weekend. Yes, it does take a few phone calls to get to someone, but the staff are all busy working on whatever order or tune up. Supply issues are also real, and John was upfront with that. Kudos to John, Nick, and Max! Thank you!

CVC works on all of my bicycles, it is a great shop!

The bike shop wasn't very nice and charges for many things that the other bike shop in Dublin doesn't charge.

Personable and professional. They know their stuff. Especially on old school steel bike with that "it" factor.

Ask the Community - Castro Valley Cyclery

Is there kids helmets sold here and helmet fitting? Thanks

I put a down payment on a bike last week and was told it would be in sometime this week. I have tried calling this place multiple times over the past week and no one answers and the voice mailbox is full. Is this place still open?

Yes, this place is still open. Not to make excuses for CVC, but yeah, C-19 pandemic did a number on this independent bicycle shop--logistics and inventories be damned. Sometimes one has to be persistent. Kos was flying solo until recently, attending…

I've had a hard time finding a good bicycle mechanic and I decided to try Castro Valley Cyclery and my first impression was how empty the shop was. Not one single customer, completely empty. I explained, " all I need was a Derailleur adjustment and everything else on the bike was new, so there was nothing wrong except it needs an adjustment" The manager, Tyler Dietrich, tried to sell me a bunch of things and I declined because he was desperate to make a sale and not out of honesty. When I picked up the bike a few days later after receiving a message that it was ready, again I noticed the bike shop was completely empty, 0 customers. I took bike out for a test ride and noticed the adjustment wasn't made. I mentioned to the manager, Tyler Dietrich, and he put it on rack and said there's nothing wrong. I told him, "you need to put a load on the bike and ride it. He rode it around the shop and he realized the shifting wasn't right and said, "there's nothing wrong" He said I need to get new parts and again tried to sell me stuff that wasn't needed. Next he began to get confrontational with me which I didn't understand because I am the customer and I am the one paying for service. I asked for a refund, which he gave me and told me to never come back again. I was shocked. All of you Mountain bikers and road cyclists who likes to have your bikes dialed in, adjusted properly, fine-tuned, DO NOT GO TO THIS BIKE SHOP. You will be disappointed. Trust me. Now it makes sense why their were no customers here. And if you need to buy a new bike go somewhere else. This place isn't worth the headache and frustrations.

The kids' trade-in program was such a fantastic idea and made upgrading to a new bike so much easier. From the friendly service to the thoughtful programs, Alameda Bicycle truly sets the standard for what a local bike shop should be. Alameda Bicycle on Park Street is a part of the community, and I feel so honored to spend my money here. Gene, George and Crew are unmatched in the Bay Area. They sell mid-price range bikes, so no $300 bikes or $14,000 bikes. I bought my first new bike here after graduating from Cal, and got my first Wall Street bonus, moons ago. It was my dream bike, a black Cannondale, top of the line. After that, got married and had children and Gene saw me through training wheels through teenage years, then sadly through a divorce. Back in a bike and climbing mountains - loving life! Anyway, today, after trying all night to get my chain back on my new e-bike (not possible on the road) I walked in and George was at the door. He sensed my frustration and said, "Come on in." It wasn't an easy fix. But they worked on it, two guys 25 minutes, and 5 tools. Meanwhile, I walked into the showroom to check out the bikes (tee hee hee). Then I noticed a new coffee and tea station with a couch and chairs, and Madeline cookies. It's just what I needed after a frustrating night and morning trying to fix it myself. Such a mindful and kind touch. People easily complain, so positive heartfelt reviews are gold. Alameda Bicycle is a solid community member and business. Honest. If I don't need something, George will say, "You don't need that." Last time, I picked up some gorgeous Ortlieb panniers (which they installed) and a fix-a-flat for on the road flats. I forgot it on the counter -- it was here waiting for me when I returned a few weeks later. They only had my old digits! BTW, I didn't eat the last Madeline cookie. I saved it for you! Come and get it -- and remember to support these incredible bike angels. Super, super Good Vibes. The absolute best Alameda bicycle shop -- to me.

What stands out to me is there quality of bike services for repairs, customer service for shopping for a new bike, and bike maintenance. They also have a used bikes section (varying inventory) which is terrific for families with young kids that frequently need new bikes without breaking the parent's bank. On the flip side, for the more enthusiasts or adult bikers they have bikes that should satisfy their needs for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly which is something that's never present with online or big box shops so definitely consider this bike shop in the future.

James and his staff was very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional about everything. They really spend the time to answer your questions and not just to "sell you something." The process to buy a bike is that you go to the retailer website (for example, Giant) and order the bike yourself. You have the bike shipped to Centripedal and they will assemble it for you. Afterwards they will call you to come in for a fitting. Then after this you can take the bike home. You get one year of maintenance, parts, and labor for free. Afterwards, you then pay as needed. The turnaround time to get the bike was about a week and James was able to deliver it to me (after fitting) as my car couldn't fit the bike and I lived relatively close by. Verdict: I'm going back in the future!
