    Used bike purchase

Centripedal is a small business with surprisingly great selection of bikes and accessories in my Fremont neighborhood. What stands out to me is there quality of bike services for repairs, customer service for shopping for a new bike, and bike maintenance. They also have a used bikes section (varying inventory) which is terrific for families with young kids that frequently need new bikes without breaking the parent's bank. On the flip side, for the more enthusiasts or adult bikers they have bikes that should satisfy their needs for sure. The staff is helpful and friendly which is something that's never present with online or big box shops so definitely consider this bike shop in the future.

I've been to bike shops all over the bay area -- very few compare to this top-notch LBS (local bike shop). James and his team were all affable individuals that shared a genuine passion for bicycles. For my specific needs, I needed to replace, tune, and replenish the components for my carbon roadbike. James was quick to recommending fiscally-favorable solutions without any upselling or overdiagnosing. This degree of honesty and sincerity are rare finds nowadays, which is why I am doing justice in sharing my delightful experience. As expected, now my bike feels brand new - and I will be a lifelong customer and supporter of this LBS.

Ask the Community - Centripedal Bikes

Do you repair Mafia bmx kush 1 bent rims?

In general we don’t have the ability to repair rims. However if the damage is not too bad we might be able to tweak it. However we usually find that it’s safer to replace the wheel if the side wall is compromised too much. We’d have to see it to… Read more

I wanted to ask if you can repair for a Schwinn E-Bike EC1?

Hello. We can repair the mechanical systems of the bicycle but may or may not be able to repair the electrical. We are not familiar with this e bike not the e system that is built into it. We’d need to see it to know if the e system is something we… Read more

Hi, Do you carry Kids Bikes ? Do you have any suggestions on what should be the size of the wheel for a 4 year old ? My kid has inseam height of 18 inches and about 40 inches tall

Yes. We carry kids bikes. 12”, 16”, 20”, and 24”. Your child may be big enough for the 24” bike but if not the 20” should work. The best way to check is to stop in and have them try out the different sizes.

I have a Rattan E-bike and my bike tire has a small little hole that someone releases all the air from my back tire. Do you sell any products to help fix that problem?

Hello Michael. If you have a slow leak from a small hole then slime sealant can be helpful. We sell it on bottles so you can inject it or we can also do it for you.

Hello, need an intertube changed on my ebike. Is that a service you guys offer?

Yes we do. Price depends on complexity of the repair. Rear motor wheels are generally about $40 labor + cost of tube. Less for front non motor wheels. We might be able to do it in a day but plan for overnight just to be safe.

Hi I clicked on your inventory for Ebikes, it is says no search results. Do you carry electric bikes or are you just temp of of them?

Do you carry Crossroads tire size 26x1.95 Flacjacket puncture protection? Thanks in advance. $?

Hello Dan. Crossroads are Specialized tires. We are not a Specialized dealer so we are unable to carry those tires. We have other options that may suit you if you are not tied to that tire.

Do you replace the 48V battery on ebikes with 750W Bafang motor? What battery choices do you offer? My current battery also has USB port.

Hello and thank you for the question. We don’t carry e-bike batteries. They are tricky to stock because there are many brands, styles, and configurations and the shelf life is poor if we don’t manage them carefully.

Hi, do you have mountain bikes for youth (age 14), either 2nd hand or new?

Unfortunately no. We are expecting mountain bikes in late January (Giant ATX and Talon). We don’t have pre owned either as we normally get them when people trade in for a new bike but there have been very few new bikes for months now.

Do you have new bikes arrived? I saw most are sold out last time when I came to your store.

Hello Allen. We were supposed to start receiving men’s road hybrids this week but they got delayed to next week. Giant is not guaranteeing even next week but they should be here some time this month. We will be getting about 20 adults bikes each… Read more

Do you service any bikes? I've got a bike I dug out of my parents garage, mountain bike style. Wondering if I can bring it by tune it up and get me on the road with another healthy activity 🤗🤔?

Yes we service all bicycles. Feel free to bring it in for an evaluation. We look over the bike and provide a free estimate. No appointment is needed for that. Then we can determine what you would like to do and what the time line will be. Here is a… Read more

Hello Alen. Thanks for the question. Generally yes, we sell this bike. However we have not had any of these for about 4 weeks and Giant has no eta for the 2021's yet. My guess is they will be available late July or August.

Is this business open during shelter in place?

    Yes. 12-5p Tuesday - Sunday

When I came in, the staff/owner was professional and welcoming. He suggested what kind of bike suited me based on my preferences and height. I ended up buying the bike he showed me. There was a 1-year warranty on the bike (except for flat tires), and he even told me I could return it within 3 days if I didn't like it anymore. He was very knowledgeable and didn't pressure me to buy the bike. He was very direct and fair, which I appreciated.

I took my son's bike in for a simple tire replacement--nothing fancy, nobody was signing a treaty…read more We agreed I'd pick it up on Nov 18th. But, at no point did anyone say, "This date is carved in stone by the ancient bike gods," or that I'd be slapped with late-pickup fees for daring to miss the deadline by a day. On the 19th, I get a call from one of the staff--curt, like I'd personally offended his ancestors. He says, "You were supposed to pick it up yesterday. If you don't pick it up today, we'll start charging late fees." Late fees? For a bike tire? In California. Without ever mentioning this policy beforehand. I'm no lawyer, but even I know that's... questionable. I politely told him this wasn't the way to talk to customers --especially since it's, you know, its a weekday, people are at work and not everyone can teleport to a bike shop that closes at 5pm. A little empathy could've gone a long way--maybe even earned them a repeat customer. Wild concept, I know. When I finally showed up, I was ready to pay and leave in peace. But nope--he reopens the entire conversation like it's a season finale cliffhanger. Still no apology, still no acknowledgment, just... attitude. At that point I simply asked him to please take the payment so we can both move on with our lives. Good news for me: there are plenty of other bike shops within a two-mile radius. Good news for them: I'll be giving all of them a shot before coming back here.

This review is specifically for the owner Fred. Being a customer of here for almost 10 years I want…read moreto say that this review is not based on a one-time experience. My brother and dad stopped coming to this bike shop many years ago when they both felt that they were being judged when they were looking at the bikes in the store. They insisted that the Asian guy with the ponytail never greeted them when they entered the store and he would just stare at them. I always try to look for the good in people so I brushed it off and proceeded to buy not one, not two, but three bikes from this store over the years. Here is the thing about Fred. He treats you with some sort of decency when he knows you're interested in buying something from his store. However, when there is no money going into his pockets that is when you will see his true colors. To put it plainly, he is condescending when he talks to you because he probably believes he knows more about bikes than 99% of the people that walk into the store. You can also tell that it has been a long time since he has been put in check by the way he talks down on his customers. I bought a Tarmac in 2023 from the website SPECIALIZED.COM because Fred did not have that model in stock. When I asked one of his workers if they could order it, he said they could not because it was not available. The website however did have it in stock. One of their options is to have it delivered to one of the local bike shops that carries Specialized bikes. What Fred does not want people to know is that as a bike shop that sells Specialized bikes, he is obligated to build any bike that is bought from the website and delivered to his store. I also bought carbon rims from the website since they offer 15% off for first time customers. When I came to pick up the bike and the rims, he literally yelled "I am not making any money!" That is when I knew what he was all about. For me, that was the last straw. I will never spend another dollar here. To be honest, this store would be much better if Fred never spoke to the customers directly. For the most part, Tina the manager, the sales staff and the mechanics all do a good job. Even the previous staff with Camacho and the manager Scott knew how to treat the customers. Fred may know more about bikes than his staff but he does not know how to talk to customers. I also heard that the previous staff pre-pandemic were all let go due to missing inventory. I am not saying that stealing is right. However, if you treat customers and your staff poorly, then it will come back to bite you. Karma is real. One last word of advice is to ALWAYS get a second opinion from another bike shop when Fred tells you what your bike needs. I found out what he suggested with my brake lines was not altogether necessary and would have cost me more than double had I followed through with his advice.

They refused to order the bike for us in-store. Instead of simply placing the order (like any normal business), they instructed us to go home, send an email, and wait 2-3 business days just to get a response. We were treated as if our business was a burden. The staff implied this was a necessary protocol for the rebate. This is demonstrably false. We immediately drove to another local authorized dealer who also didn't have the bike in stock, but they were able to: 1. Place the order for the sold-out bike immediately in-store. 2. Redeem the rebate code on the spot. 3. Treat us with the attention a paying customer deserves. This shop created unnecessary barriers to using the rebate program, while their competitors made it seamless. The experience felt less like a standard policy and more like a reluctance to support rebate-eligible participants, especially seniors and lower-income customers who are most impacted by email-only barriers and delays. Save yourself the time and the headache. Take your business to a shop that actually wants it.
