I made a 45 minute drive to downtown Hayward and all the security gates were already pulled out and the store was closed. I stood in front of the store confused because it was only 3:15pm. I sat in the car checking the hours online as the employee with long hair closed up and drove away in their white Mazda hatchback and their bike rack hitch. Is this normal practice? Stopped in for a few bike parts to finish a single speed bike I've been working on for a while, walked in for bar tape and ended up leaving with a lot more. The lady who sits behind the desk at the entrance is very welcoming and kind, she does not have the most bike knowledge but her customer service is great. I left happy with a great deal on a stem, drop bars and a bike pump. The bike mechanic is also very helpful, he happily filled my tires with air and even offered me caps to put on my valves. We went there and they are open during COVID. I appreciate the wash station by the entrance. They require all customers to wash hands prior to entering. However, they didn't have much selection and worse, their customer service isn't great. The person we talked to was not friendly, and in fact rude. I'm not surprised to read the comments here on poor customer service. I shall update my review if we return as they will be receiving new inventory. I have to admit, the poor Yelp reviews initially had me worried about visiting this bike shop. Living in the Hayward area and usually pressed for time, however, I didn't want to travel further out to other bike shops in say, Castro Valley or something. I'm glad I chose to stay local and visit! We've purchased a total of 2 adult and 1 children's bike from Cyclepath. Ben, the owner has a good amount of experience and knowledge. When shopping around for my bike, I landed on a Specialized Crossroads 2.0 that fit my budget and style, and was between a M / L frame size. Although they only had an M in stock, I briefly spoke with Ben who suggested an L would be a much better fit for me. Taking a chance, I trusted his instincts and we ordered an L, and I've been quite happy with it ever since it arrived! For my 3 year old, we also discussed how the cheaper bike we purchased off Amazon with reverse braking wasn't working out for him. He recommended a Cleary Hedgehog, which we also purchased. My kid's been loving his bike and rides it almost daily! As for maintenance, they did a free "30 day" tune up on my Specialized bike after putting in some miles. I can't comment on their pricing versus other bike shops. I like their convenience and the staff seems generally competent and cool. Amazing buying experience! I am totally new the bike world, and I'm glad that I came here to learn about the different bike models and get advice on what style/size bike I should get. Everyone here is super helpful and knowledgeable. The owner, Ben, is great and takes the time to chat with customers and understand their needs. One of the main guys that helped me was Sebastian, who really helped me understand the importance of the size bike to get. I couldn't be more happy with my purchase of my new Specialized bike! But I was even more satisfied with the service experience I received from here. Since buying my bike, I've been back to get some additional accessories as well, which they helped with installing. Also, they are taking every precaution during this time to protect customers. They installed a sink to wash your hands before you enter the store, and ensure everyone (including employees) wears a mask while inside. Tried to charge me $50 to change a tire. Extremely rude and disrespectful. I hope the business owner reads this and does something about it.

I have to say I am impressed by the quality of the workmanship I got here today. I was having an issue with my newer mt bike; it was not clicking into gear right and pedaling was not smooth. As you know I am do it yourselfer. I tried to fix it on my own but I didn't make it any better. I thought lets see if a pro's can make it better. I have always driven by this place and I like that when you text them; they would text you back! That is a huge plus. So for the shop yes they are open special hours; see there site. You have to wash your hands as soon as you get in. Not sure if that really helps at all as dirty hands are touching the soap but I guess you are fine after. Anyways I brought my bike in for the Mini Tune up service. They took the bike and said they could do it in 1 day this was huge for me. I love fast service who doesn't. They ended up calling me two time and texted me saying one of my bearings was bad on my bike offered to replaced it; it was an add on to the Mini Tune up service. It's was a small mark up and a fair price on labor. Anyways I get there; they tell me what they did; I got dropped off as I wanted to ride my bike home; Its about a 4 mile ride nice and easy. Man the bike felt amazing! All of the gears went in without issue; I was flying on the bike it felt so good. The best it has ever felt. They did a really good job with there tune up and new bearing my bike felt brand new. They got it done in 1 day. I was very impressed with the results. So I would say they are great when it comes with workmanship and service. my only beef is a bit on pricing; as i understand they need to make money and markup. They've been a great bicycle shop for many years. Unfortunately, they're closing 'within a couple months'.

Went to this place 3 times. First time with friend we were greeted by a very friendly young worker and he showed us many options to fix my friend's bike, also casually chit chatted with us. Given I had a good first impression I decided to go back about a month after I bought a used bike in private and needed a brake line. Still greeted by employees politely on 2nd time, one of them told me it would be better if I bring the bike to them to see how long of a line it will be needed, it was a reasonable request so I'm like ok and brought my bike there the next day, and this is where my experience had gone from very good to bad: I walked in and greeted by employees again, I showed my bike and broken brake line to one of them and the guy said will check for me and took the bike and broken brake line for further inspection. After a while that employee came to me and told me they couldn't put the brake line on for me as the bike is not safe to ride on, I will have to pay $130 of tune up fee and $ for parts in order for them to install that brake line. At the beginning I was hesitating, he saw it then started his hard sell strategy on me. First of all he repeatedly told me he cannot just install the brake line and I had to pay that expensive tune up fee, he also said I can take my bike to any other bike shop and result will be the same, then he said I should have bought a bike from them, everything is ready to go and it comes with warranty and what not. Seriously? I brought in a bike to replace a brake line only, how is buying a bike from them could have helped me to begin with???? I asked him what's wrong with the bike that needed such a tune up, he showed me some loosing nuts on the wheels and pedal and chair, which.....for a guy like me who works on cars as a weekend hobby, this is completely a piece of cake and not worth $130! So I asked for my bike back and asked him to simply give me a new brake line that will work with my bike, he didn't look too happy but got me a line regardless. Then I asked would the same length as the broken line be idealistic to use, he simply said "I'm just doing what you told me to do boss!" like he doesn't even care anymore only because I don't wanna spend more money in the shop. Very rude attitude needless to say! I would give 5 stars based on my first two experiences, but the 3rd time had completely ruined it, so two stars it is! Not going to deal with such terrible customer service again. I know not all employees in there are like that particular guy, but still I will not go back to this place unless I need parts quick. read more

I ordered a few items online and had to pick them up in store. I'm glad the website advised that I come early because I noticed a long line when I drove by in the afternoon. They are taking COVID precautions. You have to wait outside and they will call you in via the radio. There is a sink just inside of the door. Everyone must wash their hands before coming in. It looks like they are running low on stock inside the store. The employees were all very nice. I had to come back to return the helmet I purchased because the fit wasn't right. I had my email confirmation but couldn't find the receipt. It took maybe 10 minutes for them to figure out my return. I'm happy they were able to work it out for me. read more

Bikes have been sold out in most places for months so we were pretty excited to hear that Cyclepath had a decent amount of bikes available last week. I texted with them during the week to get some info about their inventory and their policies and then visited the store this past weekend to try some bikes in person. Julie helped us from the moment we walked through the door and she was really great. We know nothing about bikes so she explained to us differences between the models, benefits of each depending on what kind of riding we might want to do, and of course got us set up to test ride a few, which involved her having to adjust and switch out the seats on most of the bikes before we could ride them. She helped us get a feel for which frame sizes would be suitable for us as she observed us riding them. We spent about 2 hours in the store and went home with two Specialized hybrids. Stock was still a bit limited so I was bummed about certain models/colors not being available in my size but that's just the nature of things right now and they still had more options than other stores I've checked. I also think their whole staff did a great job enforcing their safety precautions. They have a sink at the entrance for people to wash their hands before coming in. They had to send away some people that refused to wear masks. The store is spacious enough that even with several customers, we could stay at a comfortable distance from other groups. While we waited for our new bikes to be tuned up, we got some tips from other employees (and I believe the owner Ben) for being 'first time' bike owners and what things to pay attention to before our next tune up in a few months. They are open during Covid! I went there today when my bike starting making a squeaking noise every time I pedaled. I brought my bike in and they fixed it in under 2 minutes. Amazing service! They also have a great range of bike gear for sale here. I was able to get a new saddle, a rear rack and trunk bag to add to my bike. I highly recommend visiting Cyclepath if you have ANY bike needs. I was on the hunt for a bmx bike for my sons 13th birthday and I started the search a little late not knowing Covid-19 had affected production and or shipping of bikes. I lucked out when I called Cyclepath in Hayward. They informed me that had just received a shipment of Subrosa Bmx bikes so I drove straight there! The service I received was top notch! Let me start by saying this place has went above and beyond to make you feel safe during this pandemic. They were only letting a certain amount of people in the store at a time, with social distance markers set up outside, and than once in the store they have a hand washing station and you are required to wash your hands for 25 seconds. I definitely felt like they were taking this serious and care about my health and safety. Once in I was greeted by Ben and he showed me around. He was friendly, positive and informative. Rudy was excellent as well! My son loved his bike and we returned to the store today for some accessories. Justin was outstanding and totally made my son feel welcomed and included in the bmx bike community. He even told him to look out for him at the Dublin skatepark which I though was so cool since my son is just starting his bmx journey. Another gentlemen helped us today and I feel awful for not getting his name, he was tall and slender with some what long hair. Anyways everyone was was amazing and I will be returning to Cyclepath for all my families bike needs. Reasonable pricing, from entry level to high end. 3. Great service 4. Plenty of extras, related items, repair shop, etc. We ended up buying two bikes with some extras and a car carrier. They helped us each step of the way. Very patient as we tried different bikes. No pressure at all. Good advice on size and fit. Actually installed the car carrier for us. I avoid this shop like they have coronavirus! Which is a shame because they have been my most local bike shop for the past two decades. Every now and then, I need to run in to get something or to ask a quick bike related question and I don't have time to get to any of the much better bike shops in the Bay Area so, I'll head down to see these guys. I am always reminded, within 29 seconds of entering the shop of why I lever come here. Seriously, don't think I've ever spoken to any of the employees at this shop who doesn't come across as a plate douchebag. The air of superiority just cannot be contained. It is impossible to try to hold a conversation with these guys without them cutting you off mid sentence to explain that they are far superior to you in every way. Got a favorite type of tube patch? It's the worst kind! Like to clean your bike with a method that countless cyclists agree is perfectly acceptable? It's the WORST thing you could POSSIBLY do to your bike. I just went in there again despite my reservations, to ask a simple question and then to buy some new tires and patch kits. I was immediately reminded that I know nothing about bicycles. Do yourself a favor. Shop ANYWHERE beside here. My favorite is alameda bike shop. The employees there are very knowledgeable, very friendly and customer oriented, and will match any prices you find on a bike in shop or online. And they give lifetime free tuneups. Terrible customer service. Me and my husband went in to look for a few thing. The guy behind the counter didn't know anything about bikes. Every single answer to our questions were "I don't know" or "we don't have that". There was no urgency to even attempt to find out any answers. More importantly he seemed high out of his mind. He was really disoriented, definitely on something. It was insane that he was even working there. Horrible costumer service went here looking for a bike for my wife, since the moment we were met by the sales guy he was very rude, right away in a very diplomatic way he told me they only had expensive bikes and perhaps I was looking for something of less quality. I mean who is this guy to make assumptions about how much can a person afford just by looking at them or was it because I was Mexican? Anyways we left right away went down to Danville's Bike shop and came home with a brand new bike for my wife. This bike shop is a little in the pricey side! I had a gear cable and the gear box replaced on my bike and it was damn near $100...? How about I had a tune up on my bike at the Peddler in Albany which included front/ rear brakes, new handle bar covers, two new tires,inter tubes and ALL of that was STILL cheaper than the prices at CyclePath...REALLY? And to top it off The cost of labor at CyclePath was $25?! I understand that it is bicycle and not an automobile... I just don't think the workers at this shop know the difference. This place is big enough that you can test ride their bikes within the store. A good place to get your repairs and adjustments. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They don't have a wide range of different bike accessories like bike seats, horns, flares, or traffic lights. They do have a lot of bikes! You'll most likely find parking right out in front of the store. If not, then you can find parking across the street where the Longs Drugs is. read more
